Cry havoc! And let slip the dogs of war! (Sernpidal Dominion)

Location: Sernpidal, offering air support to ground troops.
Allies: Shadow Empire, Nova Mercs
Enemies: Sernpidal
Objective: Setting the record straight

A small smirk appeared on Ice's face as he gave a nod. "Of course emperor. Right away!" He gave a quick bow, and cut the transmission. Patching another line through to Saki, Ice ordered. "Saki. We got a direct order from the emperor. Withdraw and head back to the outskirts of the military base. The emperor has requested an LZ be cleared for his approach. Make it so. I want the skies nice and clear for his arrival as well. So send our fighters to fly escort for his incoming vessel."

It was about this time that an encrypted high priority message was transmitted to his comm. A frown appeared on his face as he read through the contents. Quickly, he was connect to [member="Michael Steelfang"] , admiral of their fleet. "Commander!" Ice said sternly. "I am getting reports that the mercs we hired seem to be getting it in their heads that captured ships are theirs for the taking. Kindly inform them, that they are being paid for their help to subdue the enemy forces. In no way does that payment extends to them being allowed to take any vessels for themselves than that which they brought themselves."

Ice paused there for a moment as he thought. He soon continued. "Actually strike that, pull back some extra ships. Move them up in support of the mercs. I want at least 3 ships supporting each merc vessel. They have done some good work today, so we will give them the chance to prove they don't plan to steal any of our new ships. Once the naval battle is over, instruct them and all their men to pull back to their ships, and head for the surface to support our ground assault. Tell them after our main force has successfully linked up with our vanguard troops, the rest of their fee will be wired to their account and they are free to go. Send them our thanks."

"If they decide to not live up to their contract and try and steal our prizes of war.....destroy them. But again, don't say any of this before your fleet is in position. And make sure they are in fact refusing to comply, before firing on them. They have done very well, and do not deserve that fate unless they choose to disobey orders and break their contract. I would prefer to do business with them again in the future, than wipe out good soldiers."

Objective: Hold the line!

As Alex made her way to the command center, the troops that followed her were able to reinforce the men holding the command post. The command post holding out, managed to push back the troops that tried to surround them. Not long after that, reinforcements from the main body began trickling in through the streets to save their comrades. Company A at the defense platform however, did not fair as well. The heavily outnumbered men fought and fought, right till their power cells began to fail. Light artillary rained down on their heads, causing gaps in the line. Sernpidal troops, charged the position inflicting heavy casualties. Thse men that survived the initial charge, quickly surrendered. The defense platform would be coming back online in just a few more minutes.

Back at the military base, our men quickly overran every position. With the bulk of Sernpidal's military trying to hold or recapture the strategic points in the city. The base simply did not have enough men for the flood of troops that flowed over them.

Seeing the white flag fly above the defense platform, the cheering Sernpidal troops, poured into the building and went straight to work to get the defense platform online. If they were going down, they were going to take out as many fighters and ships as they could.

Elsewhere around the city, tired and disoriented troops began to fall back toward the shipyard. The last remaining area of the city that had yet to be attacked. Their they began to dig in and set up defensive positions.

They also pressed in on the Starport as best as they could, but since the SE troops inside had good defensive positions and plenty of ammunition. Their efforts were mostly fruitless. And they were forced to yield to a defensive stance and be satisfied with simply keeping the SE troops pinned down.

Kaia leaps into the fray hiding behind a small crate shaking in her boots the young girl hadn't killed any living soul in a while and she didn't feel like doing it again but life is hard as she cowered behind the box she thought about all the recent memories just in case she some how didn't make it out alive she grasped onto her rifle tightly.

"You heard him [member="Cross Ikon"] no taking the ships sorry they don't understand the rules of space warriors " This was becoming a very long day and most annoying of all that arrogant welp [member="Ice"] put him in the very awkward position he was tempted to order the fleet into retreat and let the damned atmos peasants die on this backwater rock "[member="Ice"] next time you give me an order I will see how you work as a torpedo"

Ice growled in annoyance at this upstarts response to both himself and the mercs. "For a high ranking navy man, he wasn't a very bright person. Who does he think he is, threatening the Shadow Hand, and disobeying direct orders which actually came from the Emperor himself!? And is the man trying to piss off the mercs!? My god I'm trying to keep them happy so I don't have to destroy them. Not goad them into fighting us!" Grumbled Ice, angrily to himself. Pulling up the situation in space, his eyes widened as he saw the flag ship being boarded. His hand smacked into his face as he let out an exasperated sigh. "And he allowed his flagship to get boarded..." Ice reflexively cracked his neck, and paused as he tried to figure out his next course of action. "...Well at least he has reason for not spending the time to give orders to his fleet."

Pulling up the comm, Ice gave orders himself to several nearby vessels. The ships began to move back and reinforce the merc positions. As they did, Ice patched a line through to the leader of the Nova mercs.

"[member="Cross Ikon"], this is Ice. What my Commodore meant to say, was we need you to fall back and support our ground assault. Our men can handle what's left of the space battle. Once our troops have hooked up with our vanguard units. Your men are free to withdraw. And the last of your fee, will be wired to your account. As ships were not part of the agreement, and are in fact the whole reason why the Shadow Empire is even here, we cannot allow you to take any. However, with that being said. We are completely willing to work with you on this misunderstanding. I would like to invite you to negotiations after the battle, where I can more fully discuss what I'd like to offer you and your men. Is this agreeable to you?"

He sat back in his chair and waited. Hopefully his fine navy commander hadn't botched the relationship between the two groups. "If this goes south, you will pay for this Steelfang." He grumbled coldly. Ice never even bothered to respond to his navy commander. Simply stared with a steely gaze as he waited to hear from Cross.

"Of course, [member='Ice'] Baby... I don't really have anything to work a ground assault, though. Last I checked, pulling a Dragon into an atmosphere was a bad idea. Those ships are yours, but I'm not responsible for the fighters on them, eh?"

I grinned and spun in my chair, again. Then I turned deadly serious.

"You're paying damages for the Cobalt and the Goshawk, too. Rikki would shoot you if she saw what happened to her ships."

I turned the intercom on to the whole Nova force. A secure channel, so that the whole Shadow group couldn't hear.

"Time to earn your keep, guys. Ion only, still, but capture any fighters you can. Then we can be on our way to Lubang. Cross out."

Had it not been for Razer's naive nature, Romeo would be here to help, but no, Razer had to do what Razer wants. Ducking, and dodging the monster's every attack, Razer had no offensive to counter the thing. The only thing there was to do was run, and Razer did exactly that, run. Sprinting with all his might to just get away from the thing, Razer reached out to Romeo through the force, calling out for help.
-Bastard better get it fast...-
He thought to himself as he turned his head to look behind him, the monster was still coming after him.

Romeo smiled behind his mask as he continued his pace, today was a day of majestic glory, glory he could care less about. He had other plans in motion here, and planned to see them through. His mind had been fixed on the whole idea that he was invited to go see his family along with Razer. He shook his head, but stopped in his tracks. Razer was reaching out to him, he was in trouble, and something else came with that. A darkness Romeo was very familiar with slipped behind his mind's eye, clouding it's vision. It was intense, and Romeo had to drop to his knees, and grasp his head. It felt like the darkness was trying to take him over, feeding off his own energy.

In Route to Shipyard
Gunship #04892
2nd Platoon, Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Division

Ten.

Nine.

"COMING IN." The Pilot screamed over the gunship's interior coms, panicked voice indicating the dire situation he was flying into without actually being able to see it.

Eight.

Seven. Doc observed a younger man praying in a corner as Blasterfire began to shudder the outside hull of the gunship.

Six.

Five. The sound of extremely close Heavy Repeating Blasters could be heard as the gunners opened up on targets of opportunities.

Four. The soldiers adjusted themselves accordingly, several were shaking or sweating. Doc nervously adjusted his hand on his Assault Rifle Slugthrower, making a futile attempt to mentally prepare himself for the first firefight he'd been in since he left the Dreadguard a year and a half ago.

Three. A slight incline.

Two. The gunship shifted as it landed.

One.

Zero. "GO GO GO." 2nd Platoon's Lieutenant shouted as the side ramps opened and the Infantrymen rushed out of the gunships as quickly as their bodies allowed. Their target was a two kilometer long ditch that ran parallel to the shipyards, they were to get into cover and engage the enemy until they could push up the rest of the hundred yards to the actual shipyard. Doc slammed hard into the rocky side of the six foot deep line as his comrades did the same. The gunship peeled off in a magnificent cloud of dust, continuing to draw fire. The Lieutenant did a head count of the platoon and found that five of his men hadn't made it to the ditch. A quick glance back saw one crawling painfully towards the rest of them. The others were either dead or unresponsive. Unreachable. Doc motioned from the ditch for the young casualty to move in his direction and with a determination Doc hadn't witnessed in ages the soldier did, propelling himself into the ditch. The clone did a quick evaluation before patching the man the best he could and laying him in a reasonably safe location. The BRAT TAT TAT of a LMG spouted off as one of the teams set up and opened up. Blaster bolts pock marketed the area. Shadow Infantry was engaging the enemy fiercely and effectively, picking off enemy troopers from a distance greater than the opposition could return fire.

This was Doc's first two minutes after returning to combat

Tk dropped with the troops, feet hitting the ground and took off running. There was a small detachment of his Marines mixed in with the infantry who's primary occupation today was tactical teams to cover medics and heavy weapons teams to suppress enemy locations.

As the bolts whizzed past some troopers returned fire but Tk did not. His rucksack weighed easily a hundred pounds complete with one section of a heavy moratar tube and the spare medical bag attached to it.

It took him thirty seconds to make the cut and slide down the trench, kicking up dust as his durasteel boots slowed his careening slide. When he hit the ground he rolled forwards, coming up off his shoulder and popping his head up over the trench.

The battle was met and the enemy had fierce repeater fire stitching the whole length. Troopers were getting their heads blown off as they swept the edges of their cover. There was too many emplacements to charge, and too much fire to suppress with small arms.

"Spade platoon, head count." He shouted over the comms as he dragged the two nearest soldiers down into the trench motioning for them to keep their heads down rather than engage.

"We're a go sarge, teams are all split up though!"

Racous gunfire and explosions mixed with static made things hard to hear but TK got the gist.

"Activating transponder beacon, gather on my location."

Tk cast around spotting Doc nearby and made his way through the press of soldiers to him...

Ice smirked at [member="Cross Ikon"] 's reply. He knew he liked that guy for a reason. And he was quite relieved he was willing to work with him. Getting back on the comm, the feeling resonated in his voice as he responded. "Cross, you're the man! As my orders don't mention anything about fighters. I think it would only be fair. Help yourself to a several of 'em. Compliments of the Shadow Empire. Though question. None of your ships can make it through atmo? I thought everything smaller than frigate was able to still make planetside. Anyway, if you can't redirect to the planets surface. Would you mind pealing off those idiots who have decided to board our flagship? I'd appreciate it."

ENEMIES

The defense platform which had been overwhelmed by Sernpidal forces finally came to life as power was restored! As it came online it instantly turned to the closest target it had in range. Ice's own carrier corvette! It opened fire with a devastating barrage. The corvette shuddered under the impacts of the blasts. And Ice's eyes widened. "Saki!" He yelled through the comm. "Turn that damn platform to slag, before it does the same to us!" The enemy in the platform couldn't believe their luck. The fighters Ice had on hand had just been sent to escort the Emperor's ship down. Another explosion rocked the ship. Inside Ice's makeshift command room, the place exploded in a shower of sparks, shrapnel, and other debris as the vessels shields quickly failed.

Throughout the city, the sounds of battle began to die down as Sernpidal troops withdrew to their last bastion of hope. The shipyard. They quickly realized that shelling was nearly as heavy. In fact in almost seemed non existent. With this knowledge, the steady retreat of enemy infantry halted at the shipyard. Here they planned to dig in. Here they planned to make their last stand.

On the edge of the shipyard , there was a cut into the earth where SE troops were starting to build up. Several dropships had deployed, but the men were being met with fierce resistance. Suddenly behind the group of troops in which [member="CC-420 Doc"] and [member="TK-4261 Strain"] were located, roughly 100 enemy troops fleeing the main city appeared behind them and began to pepper their location with small arms fire and some rifle fire....

ALLIES

Before Ice's ship had been attacked, one of his last orders went out to a small detachment of droids. 200 B-1 Droids, 100 combat droids, and around 350 regular troopers. They were sent to reinforce the men already attacking the shipyard. Unfortunately they were still a few minutes out. It was now up to those brave souls in the trenches to survive long enough in between the two enemy forces, till the reinforcements could arrive.

"Oy company on the six!"

TK turned in place and crawled up the walls of the cut to see a massive force of soldiers rushing in. They looked half confused, as if they had expected a straight shot without anyone in between them and their location. The confusion would work to TK's advantage as he saw them only beginning to realize the enemy was there. They must have been falling back, judging from his calculations.

Tk cast about, seeing most of the marines had reached him and crawled back down.

"Alright men, unload the ordinance, set up mortars and prepare to fire, observers in position right now, on our six and fast approaching!"

It was something they had drilled for thousands of time. Tk slung off his pack and set the mortar base down. Two more of the crew slammed the tripod and tube into place, locking the pieces in thirty seconds flat, as per standard.

"Observers report!"

"In position, support by fire all elements one hundred meters on your six."

Tk snatched a round from his pack as the crew men adjusted the tube.

"Coordinates good sarge, fire!"

Tk slammed the shell in and crouched covering his ears.

"Firing!"

The entire trench rocked as the ten mortars opened up in unison, sending smoke and overpressure through each-others postilions. The space behind the cut lit up as devastation explosions rocked the area. smoke and fire rent the earth, sending bits of enemies and shrapnel whizzing everywhere.

"Adjust fire, twenty meters south."

"Adjusting."

TK did not wait, but threw the next shell in as they scrambled madly to get more steel on target.

"Firing!"

The next wave exploded considerably closer, sending massive chunks of earth sliding down the slops and disorientating TK.

"Steel on target fire for effect!"

TK hefted the neck shell, ears ringing despite his helmet and vision blurred...

[member="TK-4261 Strain"] [member="Ice"]

2nd Platoon's rear security element had opened up on the retreating enemy the moment they'd entered their sights. As the fire increased the rear element began shouting for more men, saying the flanking group of enemy infantry was a hell of a lot larger than it should be. The Lt began to speak up over coms and move toward the other groups to issue orders when a stray bolt brained him. His head rocked from side to side as his body fell hard and settled into the ditch.

"Lt's DOWN." The shout came down the line.

Silence.

Nobody was taking charge. Doc was amazed. This was something that never would've happened in the Dread, maybe among the line soldiers but not among the Guard. So Doc did what he was trained to do before a lack of strong leadership killed the men around him, switching his com to a Platoon wide station.

"KEEP THAT FRACKING FIRE UP. 2ND SHIFT YOUR FIRE TO THE REAR 3RD SQUAD ON ME, EVERYONE BE PREPARED TO MOVE AT MY COMMAND." As Doc shouted into his com as a Marine he recognized from the staging area moved rapidly towards him, who he hailed immediately, opening a separate com channel.

"Sergeant, we need your guys help cover our flanks and blow a hole in that fracking wall if you got something heavy, be ready to move toward the hole we make. We're moving now."

Doc switched back to open coms as his squad rallied behind him and the corresponding shifted their fire. He trusted [member="TK-4261 Strain"] enough for him to play his part and not let them be overrun. They moved rapidly along the ditch, moving closer towards the wall with every passing second.

[member="CC-420 Doc"]@TK-4261 Strain

TK heard Doc though just barely as he slammed another round into the tube. The area behind them continued to explode as the shells whizzed out fast in pace. The fire for effect meant a rapid fire of rounds down range and the marines were delivering just that, turning the rear field into a veritable killzone.

But it was time to shift focus.

"Sergeant Riker, take my position!"

"Aye sarge."

"Platoon give me two observers on my twelve, mortars one and two, prepare to adjust fire. Sniper teams get your karking asses into position."

Above the screams of the wounded and the deafening roars of the explosions to their rears TK's orders were carried out with skill and precision. where normal infantrymen began to panic the Shadow Marines were precise and kept their heads, ignoring the din of the battle and concentrating wholy on the task at hand.

Two mortar tubes swivelled and TK climbed the opposite wall of the trench braving blaster bolts inches from his head to see the wall and its defenders. There was too much heavy fire for them to move , but they could be cut out of the equation.

"Snipers, target heavy weapon emplacements, observes I want a solution on that wall, time now!"

"Aye sarge working."

Seconds later blue beams began to fly from the trench, exploding through the heads of heavy gunners on the wall. As the carnage unfolded the snipers put in work, slowly killing off the heavier repeaters.

"Support by fire, teams one and two, three hundred meters on our twelve."

Two high explosive shells slammed into the earth in fron of his eyes, and the wall took heavy shrapnel as smoke began to unfurl across the open ground. It was a miss.

"Adjust fire one hundred meters north!" TK roared, correcting the teams.

"Firing!"

The second set of shells roared into the air coming down with a characteristic whistle. As they exploded TK had to duck when massive pieces of wall and boulders came flying at him. When he popped his head back up he was greeted by a half destroyed section of wall right in the middle. Enemy soldiers scrambled for cover as the sides continued to trade heavy fire. Snipers continued to unload on their targets, mowing down stragglers with deadly efficiency...

"Direct hit, fire for effect!" TK roared over the comms....

[member="TK-4261 Strain"] [member="Ice"]

The Marines did their jobs efficiently, successfully helping to pin down the mass behind them and blowing out a chunk of the wall towards where the cut was only a few yards from the massive structure. 2nd Platoon executed excellently as well, giving Doc a slight swelling of pride as he rushed with his Soldiers toward the now open hole. The rest of the group was beginning to slowly move tactically towards it, keeping up effective fire and cover in the cut all the while. Once the rear group was completely eliminated the enemy wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hell. As they neared the hole Doc and his troopers began to engage enemy infantry that were moving quickly to try to set up some sort of defensive position to prevent them from entering. Chunks of people flew by as the Marines kept up their funnel of death with the mortars.

During a lull in the mortar fire a hostile infantryman came bursting out of the hole, right into the center of Doc's sights, and his chest exploded as the clone immediately opened up with a burst. A sharp tingle went up and down Doc's spine, it'd been a while since he killed a man. Doc shifted his fire and waited for the Marines to stop firing before moving his squad and those behind them to move to plug the hole. About a dozen enemy lay in various states between life and death in the area where they'd shelled and Doc forced the out of his mind as he moved into the shipyard and along the sides to what had previously been barricades that were to have been moved for civil unrest or construction. 3rd squad took to setting up and began opening up on the scrambling, confused enemy.

Doc keyed back to the Sergeant he'd spoken to earlier [member="TK-4261 Strain"] "WE GOT IN." He shouted over the sounds of Blasterfire. Troops began filing into some of the smaller buildings and clearing them under the direction of their own Sergeants. The group moved up as more and more enemy folded.

She heard [member="Ice"] yell into the comm to shred the platform below then static as she watched his ship take damage, her eyes widened in shock and fear she shook her head and growled looking at the weapons officer with a glare that could cut down a ship"I want all guns pointed at that karking platform AMD I want it made into molecules"the weapons officer shivered and nodded giving the order all guns turned towards the platform"and don't stop until I say "he nodded again and looked at her"
-ready
Fire"soon the ship one gun after the other started firing aiming at the platform

TK keyed his own comms as the Infantry division rushed en masse into the starport. The Marines had remained behind still cleaning up the mes of the initial assault, and helping secure the breach they had created, granting just a little more security to Doc's Infantry cats.

"Roger that Doc, We'll be hanging back and cleaning up, radio if you need us."

As the mortars continued to pound away behind them the ground kept opening up in rifts of fire and sprays of dirt and blood. TK knew it was no use for the returning enemy and most must have surely been wiped out. Yet now was not the time to get cocky. Small victories were good but hubris could destroy even the shrewdest tactician.

"All sqaudrons cease fire!" TK ordered.

The teams stopped their mortar fire and at last there was enough quiet for TK to hear semi sentences among the men. The trench was bloody mess, full of dead corpses, blood, mud and the excrements of wounded men. The field was even worse. What resistance had made it through the hellish mortar fire dared not even move, most playing dead no doubt.

"Alright men, ya done good but it ain't over yet. Aid and litter team squads one through through two, three clear our six, no prisoners, kill on sight. Four set defensive perimeter."

"Aye Sarge."

The Marines went to work, setting up weapons pits and moving the injured and dying to the casualty collection point. TK pulled a map from his satchel and began to mark his coordinates on it, not trusting the electronics in his helmet after the shock waves they had received.

"RTO where you at!"

The soiled and bloodied marine came over, running through the trench helmet less, and a glazed look in his eyes.

"Here sarge."

"Call up to the fleet, get us some Medevacs for the wounded, and a fresh drop of ammo."

"Aye sarge."

[member="Ice"]

The RTO's message crackled over the comms of the Flagship to general command.

"Shadow Empire Marines, Battalion One requesting Medevac and supply drop just south of the Sernpidal Straport. Priority Alpha, Danger high."

ENEMY

Before word got back to [member="TK-4261 Strain"] , a large string off explosions rang out from the shipyard in front of him and his men. The enemy had been so easy to push back for a reason. And the wall of fire, debris, and shrapnel that engulfed the area on the other side of the wall gave clear evidence as to what that reason was.

[member="CC-420 Doc"] and the men with him that made it into the closest buildings, managed to survive the detonations. However, the vast majority of the men that jumped so hastily over the wall with Doc now found themselves to be nothing more than ash floating on the afternoon breeze.

Enemy snipers suddenly appeared along catwalks and upper buildings throughout the yard. Their shots quickly ringing out and signaling their presence. The RTO with Strain had a bolt zap through his head just as word was coming back from command on their request. He would not hear what commands response was to his request, without another call requesting the response be repeated.

Doc would also find himself in a bit of trouble as a surge of enemy troops, bent on retaking the few buildings lost sprang forward in charge. All the while their blasters pouring in a relentless fire to cover their approach.

[member="CC-420 Doc"] [member="Ice"]

TK shook his head as the mines exploded sending bits of flesh and bone spiralling into the filthy trenches and peppering the men. Everyone stopped for a second at the raucous sound, then went back to what they were doing, keeping their heads down as a wave of return sniper fire whizzed over their heads.

"RTO whats the status on the Resupply?"

There was silence.

"what the he-."

TK turned on the spot, intent on berating the RTO, only to find fist sized hole in his head, oozing brains into the mud. This was beginning to become a bad day.

As the sniper fire intensified two of the sniper teams were taken out. Their limp bodies rolled down the slopes of the cut, laying lifeless amid the clamour of the battle. TK took little notice as the Marine Snipers could hold their own and indeed they did. Smoke canisters popped across the field, obscuring the enemies view and the Marines switched to thermals, targeting the two man sniper teams of the enemy and returning devastating barrages.

"Squad one, split forces, lay down heavy suppressive fire on those snipers!" TK roared pointing in the direction of the smoke clouds. The first squadron split their men in half two teams setting up an E-web and unloading walls of fire into the enemy positions, giving the snipers yet even more cover to counter the enemy marksmen.

TK snatched up the headset from the dead RTO and crouched low, repeating the transmission.

"Shadow Empire Marines, Battalion One requesting Medevac and supply drop just south of the Sernpidal Straport. Priority Alpha, Danger high."

[member="Ice"] [member="TK-4261 Strain"]

Things were moving relatively smoothly, under Doc's command the platoon had managed to push into the shipyard with relatively few casualties. Then Doc's heart dropped when the air changed as a large explosion ripped through the rear flank of Doc's group and presumably those of the Marines, sending a wall of chunks of men and shrapnel. Doc was dually marveled and disgusted with how an apparently routed defensive force had been organized enough to plan a defensive requiring that much equipment that quickly. The screams of the wounded echoed as another hidden force of enemy made themselves known, prompting Doc to shout over his com "SQUARE." Which sent the men remaining with him to form a generally square, but still behind their individual pieces of cover, formation. They pumped round after round at the enemy, killing a huge swath of them relatively quickly.

Fueled by rage, adrenaline, and animal fear the men of Second Platoon fought harder than they had in their entire lives. The enemy had been so enamored by the cleverness of their plot and the assumption that they'd wipe out most of the Soldiers in a single motion. The opposite was happening. Doc shouted again.

"PUSH."

The adrenaline high Soldiers pressed forward slowly and effectively, wiping out another group. The remaining squads moved into the infrastructure throughout the walls, killing and clearing. Doc found himself kicking in a door and pushing a terrified young militia man through a door and sticking a barrel into his mouth before sending a chunk of brain flying across the room. Doc's squad showed similar brutality in dispatching them. The enemy didn't stand a chance. The few who still fought did so with a terrified desperation.
