Darkness Spreads | CA dominion of Noris [Hex R-13]

Location: Noris
Allies: [member="Zsuzsa"] | [member="Farcarus"]
Objective: 1

”Alezan,” the Chiss mercenary said, giving his name to the Marine Captain. Brief pleasantries were given between the two before returning back to whatever needed to be done. So far only infantry had arrived, the armor and other vehicles were yet to come. This landing zone would soon turn into a forward command center for this unit once it was secured and the proper instruments established to fortify against the Kiliks. Some intel was spared for Alezan to disclose for his band. Absolutely no blasters or any energy based weapon was to be used inside the colony’s nest, thanks to the methane produced within those caverns.

Speaking of the enemy, here they came. Unsurprised and expected a company of the enemy would come try dissuade the platoon’s objective. They could try.

”Up to the front, lads. Troulk, ready the ordnance; Eesh, back him up,” the Chiss ordered to his men, telling a four armed besalisk and a scaly Trandoshan to do their specialties in combat. The former enjoyed explosives and could be seen with a grenade launcher and a mortar, the latter skilled himself in heavy weapons and was carrying a heavy repeater that was optimal in situations like these.

Formations and placements were made before the firefight started. The Trandoshan mercenary bombards tbe Kiliks with a high rate of projectiles from his heavy repeated and Besalisk gave his own hell with grenades and mortar shells. The Chiss and the rest of his band settled together near some barricades while exchanging fire to the enemy. There were to be casualties, though the Chiss would most likely take minimal ones when compared to their adversaries that were out charging in the open.

”Fething Troulk forgot his rocket launcher at home; bastard would’ve made it easier for us.”

Brask'ari'sabosen stepped off the turbolift and into the medical frigate's hangar bay. It was a sea of organized chaos as crews were readying the deck to received the evac shuttles from the Brrzt II. There was a human saying, 'It takes a village to raise a child,' so was the business of saving patients. It was a team effort from the lowliest corpsman to the chief surgeon. Everyone had their duty and task to perform in order to care for mass casualties as was expected.

The Battle Surgeon would be medical control, dictating after the wounded were triaged coming off the transports who went where and in what order. Those with life threatening injuries would be prioritized, going directly to a waiting operating room or to an available bacta tank. Those with non-life threatening injuries would be taken to the medical decks for stabilization and further care. Walking wounded would be treated in a holding room. Patients who were mortally wounded, but still alive would be given comfort care to ease the dying process, The deceased would be taken directly to the morgue where they would be readied immediately for proper burial.

To say the Sabosen was at her best in this organized chaos wouldn't be too far off the mark. Brask'ari'sabosen thrived off the adrenaline as much as the challenges emergency medicine threw at her, and thus made the woman what they call in her circles a trauma junkie. Though, she wasn't that shallow. Every patient the Chiss doctor lost, took a piece of her soul with them. That is why Ari tried so hard to save everyone, and it weighed on her greatly at the end of the day.

Objective 1 - Killik Colony Staging Area, Noris
[member="Farcarus"] | [member="Alezan"]
More and more Killiks poured out of the tunnels and converged on the Niner's forward position. Where was the heavy artillery? Their reinforcements seemed never ending. The Chiss would not win this battle by mere attrition of soldiers... They would need to obliterate their colony in order to rid Noris of these hive-mind insects that were preying upon the Chiss, making them become Joiners or worse using the near-humans as food.

Shatter gun pellets whizzed by Flaz'suz'safis' helmet as Theta squad advanced a few more meters on the right flank. She took cover, then returned fire from behind a thick trunk of a tree. There was one particular area that had a higher volume of insect warriors coming out of it. And these Killiks were the big ones called Rekkers. The denizens of the hive were about 3 meters tall and extremely energetic with a hard natural armor. The thing about them was that they were capable of jumping long distances to strike at their targets and used to batter enemy fortifications and soldiers.

The Marine Sergeant used her HUD to get the location on the grid, then toggled the comms. "Marine Control, this is Theta Leader. Calling in a STAT artillery strike. Sending coordinates now."

The thing was a Killik could lay a thousand eggs a month, and within a year, those eggs would be battle-ready nymphs. In two years, the survivors would lay eggs of their own. Kill one Killik, and ten thousand would take its place. This had to stop here!

"Merc One, this is Theta One.... Be aware, incoming ordinance. Stay left of center, take cover."

The crackling detonation of a dozen or more mag pulse warheads sent coruscating webs of electric blue light dancing across the flanks of the hulking defensive nest ships. The bright sparkling lights cast intricate shadows across the bridge of the Sentinel and reflected in the crimson eyes of Captain Vhirr’bel’laminis. The Vice Admiral’s fleet was engaged in the final assault to break the back of the Killik; Bella too wished to take her opportunity to punish the insectoids, soon enough her strikeforce would link up with the greater formation, but a single target still remained.

“Weapons Control, Report, time to optimal,” she ordered, pushing back a lock of hair that had come free at some point during the battle,

“11 seconds, Ma’am, 10, 9 -”

The Captain left her seat and walked along the length of the command bridge, coming to stand before the bridge windows and fully take in the splendour of the battle raging beyond. She inhaled slowly as if savouring every part of the moment as her victory drew close. The Ttro’Cla bore down upon her target, harrying the colony nest with Masers and Turbolasers, dogged in its pursuit; Commander Asvihb’rila’nuruodo would have to be commended for her actions once the battle was done.

Of the twelve she had sent out, ten of the tether-ships had successfully reached the Nest, Bella noted the bright cyan glow of the dual engines mounted on each of light tug vessels, the colour intensifying as their modified drive system worked overtime to slow the progress of the last ship enough for the Sentinel to make the kill. Together, they were strong.

It had been so long since the Chiss had truly stood so independently, so long since they had displayed the strength to rule themselves, with no force damned Emperor or Moff to make decisions over the children of Csilla. It would all be different, from now on. The Ascendancy would take back what was theirs.

She blinked back a tear, showing her emotions would be unseemly upon the bridge. By the time she turned her gaze back toward weapon control, her expression was fixed into a sober smile.

“ - 3, 2, 1. In Range-”

“Launch the warheads, Annihilate that vessel.”

“Aye-”

“Tethers break away.” she ordered and returned her gaze to the windows.

She turned back in time to watch a half dozen dull pale shapes rapidly accelerate away from the Sentinel, following the same course as the staccato bursts of masers, ions and turbolaser fire. It took precious little time for the warheads to impact on the target, a series of sudden eruptions caused a chain reaction of increasingly power explosions along the length of the colony nest, culminating in the cataclysmic destruction of the ships main reactor.

Bella raised her chin a fraction as she regarded the debris tumbling away from the site of the vessels death whilst imagining how many thousands of the Killik monstrosities she was responsible for exterminating this day; Imagining how many lives she would have saved in their destruction.

Helm set course to match the Vice Admirals fleet. Match speed and vector when we are in formation. Communications, Send word to Vice Admiral Mitth'orn'eruod that our objective has been completed, Request permission to for up with the fleet.

All other vessels to clean up their remaining targets and form up with the Sentinel. Engineering I want full damage reports ready for inspection.”

She smiled openly then, as she scanned over the crew at work, feeling a surge of admiration for her people as they carried out their duties.

“We’re back.” she whispered softly, feeling the release of the sweet victory to come.

Chaf'arcar'usorn watched as the call for artillery went through, grinning within his helmet at the sheer destructive force from the unloaded and anchored weapons platforms at the back of the marine lines. Large arcing energy bolts curved up and over, impacting against the approaching Killik forces with explosive splash damage, tearing through the insectoids and decimating the charge from the colony mountain. The Niners held strong, working alongside the mercs led by Alezan, with Sergeant Flaz'suz'safis once again proving her capacity for leadership by calling on the support strike at the opportune moment.

"We're moving forward, marines," The Captain said over comms, firing his verpine rifle at the Killik that managed to make it through the artillery. "I want to see squads covering squads, with staggered movement forward to the colony entrances. Do not push too far ahead and get yourselves singled out by the swarm!"

Without waiting for a response, Chaf'arcar'usorn began moving forward at a quickened combat pace, his weapon firing powerful blasts as he looked left and right aiming at his enemy. The results of the artillery were evident and the swaths of Killik limbs and debris in the area told of the effectiveness of the attack. The marines ran through the field, now in a strong position against the dwindling numbers of the Killik swarm, boots crunching through craters and ash. After a long approach, the Niners reached the entrance tunnels to the Killik colony, seeing the holes in the ground weaving downward into darkness, before eventually leading to the center of the hive's location on Noris...

"Move in, watch your escape routes, and avoid setting off that methane, marines!"

Chaf'arcar'usorn was the first into his particular tunnel, with the entirety of the marine force on Noris each separate and invading a different tunnel...

Vector moved with Blackout, the pair used to operating in lead positions ahead of the commando unit together, so movement and communication was quick and effective. The decrease of Killik encounters on the way to the manor office was troubling, and the tall commando was beginning to suspect they might be entering an area even the Killik didn't venture into. The lack of lived in mess associated with the insects wasn't present, nor was there any indications of claw marks or reorganization of furniture. Vector approached what - according to the blueprints - was the office they needed to access, gloved hand reaching out to grasp the door handle... and stopped when Blackout called the warning.

"I've got just the thing to get around," Vector muttered as he looked at the intricately placed tripwire. "That's definitely one of Fissure's, good spotting boss."

There was a myriad of thoughts in Vector's mind about Fissure having been to the manor to setup traps, with the tall commando wondering at the possibility of his friend being alive also being primary. Still, until more information could be found, he would have to focus on the task at hand and get inside the office with the terminal access the team - and by extension the spook - needed, in order to complete their mission.

"Cover me," Vector said simply, as he stepped several meters to the right of the door and pulled a small device from his belt. Those with any background in mechanics would recognize the basic model of fusioncutter, and would understand it would be used to slice through the portion of wall and allow a makeshift entrance for the team. Vector activated the small cutter, the beam emitting about two feet, as he began to slice a circular hole large enough for a sentient humanoid to bend over and step through... but it would take a few minutes.

"We got your back Vector, do what needs to be done." Blackout confirmed the orders, but as she turned to cover the other entrance a holoprojector turned on. Fissure appeared, his arms crossed casually over his chest. It was a lost member of the 21st, but his eyes weren't red. They were black like the night sky. Dezoti visibly cringed. Anyone who knew of the Killiks knew that any other species could take part in "The Joining", where they became one with the hive.

And the result was their eyes turning black.

"We are not surprised they sent you, Duuvhal. We had anticipated this. After we became one, it was not hard for the Hive to figure out." He smiled, nodding his head in the direction of the door. "You will not leave here alive. For the sake of the Hive, the 21st must be erased. Good bye." The holocall ended. A cold sweat went down Blackout's spine as she turned her head to Vector.

"Mission abort. We've been compromised. Pull out to extraction, now!"

Elaine had been watching the events unfold on her ship, the killiks where in trouble. Then a few came towards her ship, she was going to rescue them. As they came towards her, she opened up the cargo bay, to let them in. They where being chased by Chiss units, and where getting gun down as they did. As the last of them got on, her ship began to take off. She realised the galaxy had a new threat, the Chiss Ascendancy would stop at nothing to get there way. Though they where not as bad as Sith, but they had followed some of there tactics. These creatures where valuable, they produce great silks, and where as whole sentitant. She would take them back to her homeworld, and hopefully they could rebuild a colony there. Though they would need to self regulate, like the killiks who live there do.

Her transport started to take off, it was unmarked, so they will not know who was blasting off with a few dozen of them. Though she did wonder what the future held, maybe the hive on her world can adopt these in, and become a warrior class. Soon she was making lines, back to Elysian. She would have to keep an eye on the chiss from now on.

Objective 2: The Nest Ships in Orbit
[member=Vhirr’bel'laminis] | [member="Jared Starchaser"]
The Csahn'arcsi had taken some damage, what with being the main focus of the attack formation for the Second Fleet. But the ship was built to handle damage, unlike the enemy, who's nest ships were crumbling under the superiority of Chiss design and construction. Matching the efforts of Captain Vhirr’bel'laminis, the Vice Admiral continued relaying orders to his crew, informing them of adjustments or changes in tactics. But, honestly, by this point it didn't much matter; the Killik vessels were now succumbing to continued attack, several had exploded, and the final colony ship was under extreme amounts of firepower from a unified Chiss armada. On top of that, the dartship threat had been dealt with in as an efficient manner as possible, with fighter squadrons now finishing up their routes and destroying any that remained.

"The final colony nest ship is destroyed, Vice Admiral," Commented a crew member from the sensor array. "All enemy vessels capable of transporting Killik nests have been stopped."

Mitth'orn'eruod nodded, a smile on his face. As the colorful explosion that had been the colony ship expanded, filling the now unoccupied space with gases, fire and debris, the Vice Admiral could only consider how the ground forces were doing. Their objectives, in comparison, were somewhat harder given they had to breach a secure location.

"Sir, sensors have picked up an unknown transport leaving the surface," The same crew member on the sensor array said in a raised voice. "No identifying transponder is on board, but we've managed to secure holos of the design and markings on the hull. It appears to be making the jump to hyperspace."

"And the vessels heading?" Mitth'orn'eruod asked, glancing down to the Chiss officer. "Make sure to track it. If it turns out some Killiks have managed to escape Chiss Space, we will hunt them down. But for now, log it as secondary priority and we will have the CEDF follow up."

The battle in space had reached a conclusion. The final flitting specs of movement belonged to destroyed ships or CEDF vessels. It was a good day, a good result, with no significant losses to the CEDF, aside from fighters and hull damage. Inferior Killik salvage was no match for Chiss manufactured weapons of war, after all. That said, now began the clean up phase, to ensure the system was no longer under any threat of Killik expansion.

"Vice Admiral, request from Captain Vhirr’bel'laminis to form up with Second Fleet," The communications officer said, peering up at the Chiss on the bridge rampway.

"Permission granted," Mitth'orn'eruod said simply, before looking out of the viewport in the direction of the Captain's strikegroup. "In fact, open communications, if you would."

A confirmation was heard, before the transmission was opened between the two battle groups.

"This is Vice Admiral Mitth'orn'eruod, an excellent display of combat prowess today, Captain Vhirr’bel'laminis," The Chiss said, his eyes turning to look at the holoprojector that had appeared near him. "The final nest ships have been dealt with, the Killik have been denied the capacity to expand from this planet, and we have done our part to secure this sector. All that remains is the ground forces to complete their objective. How are your vessels, Captain? Do any require emergency repairs or assistance from Second Fleet techs?"

Mitth'orn'eruod allowed a small smile to cross his lips, as he waited for a reply. He then nodded to the communications officer, expecting another transmission to be opened to additional members of the attack force occupying the area above Noris...

"To the ExPat forces, I congratulate you on an excellent battle, your activation of the interdictor field was vital to keeping escape attempts at bay," Mitth'orn'eruod said, before nodding his head to the commander of the group. "It has been a pleasure working alongside you, Commander Starchaser. We will surely be calling on your people again. You have my thanks."

Objective 1 - Killik Colony, Tunnels
[member="Farcarus"] | [member="Alezan"]

The artillery barrage was beautiful as the incoming ordinance did its best to take out the insect warriors that had been harassing the Marine force above ground... Now to take care of the rest below.

"Niners, you heard Captain Chaf'arcar'usorn. Let's go, let's go!" the sergeant yelled, then turned to her own squad.

Thetas... Into the tunnel, carefully. Keep your heads on a swivel. Fireteam One with me on the right. Fireteam Two, left. Fireteam Three... Watch our six and escape route."

Flaz'suz'safis changed out the high capacity magazine on her slugthrower rifle, then gave the nod for Subsonic grenades to be tossed inside the entrance of their tunnel before moving in with precision. These grenades utilized sound waves in a sub-sonic range to physically knock over an adversary, though only caused limited damage unfortunately. Flash bangs were so much more effective, but... at least they wouldn't blow themselves up, huh?

A count of three and in Theta squad went... As soon as they made it to the central colony area, the Marines would set Cave cracker charges, then get the hell out. Well, that was the plan any way. It would be a fight nonetheless, but worth it if the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force stopped the Killiks from expanding and taking hold of other planets in Chiss space.

UVYIu29.png
Chaf'arcar'usorn moved with his troops, breaching the colony tunnels with an assortment of non-explosive grenades to stun and distract the Killik waiting in ambush. The marines were well trained, disciplined and had prior knowledge of their opponent, so while the battle into the darkened caves was difficult, it wasn't even by any means. The Killik were a dangerous foe when in large numbers, so the tunnels began working against them, funneling their swarms into manageable sizes that were systematically gunned down by rapid-fire slugthrowers and verpine weapons.

"Schematics show the main colony chamber just ahead," Chaf'arcar'usorn called out, as the Niners continued to move in staggered formation, pushing through the throng of Killik. "Prepare those cave cracker charges, we won't have much time before the Killik try to escape the tunnels!"

The Captain dropped to a knee, skidding through the dust and dirt, as he fired several times. A Killik dropped, large holes blasted through its chitinous skeleton. From behind the Niners' lines, demo teams rushed forward, slapping the highly volatile explosives into place with a mixture of speed and care - trying to do the job quickly, but wanting to avoid premature explosions. The other squads and their demo teams were doing the same, with the marines on point providing a protective barrier for their explosives to be set through overbearing weapons fire. With the Killik barely using functional salvaged weaponry, largely relying on close quarter attacks with claws and teeth, it was a far simpler task than Chaf'arcar'usorn was hoping for.

"Charges set," The lead demo marine called, as he and his group moved back behind marine lines. "We've targeted the weaknesses in the tunnel systems, and the explosives set around the colony will collapse the whole system by sheer weight alone. The Killik will have a few short million tonnes of mountain on their heads."

Chaf'arcar'usorn nodded, firing his rifle again, dropping a pair of Killik that charged down the tunnel. The enemy had fallen back now, likely realizing what was happening, and attempting to assist their hive in organizing some kind of escape. But it would be too late, especially once the outer tunnels began to fall, having a domino effect toward the central colony itself. The vermin were dead and buried, but they didn't know it yet.

"How long to evac the tunnels?" Chaf'arcar'usorn called, looking over his shoulder.

"Timers primed for ten minutes, but as soon as we have confirmation of all marine evacuations, we can manually blow the charges." The demo lead said, firing his own weapon at the dwindling enemy. "We've also hardwired some redundancies into the charges, so if the Killik try disabling the charges they won't get very far... we've used very unorthodox firing mechanism and circuitry routing."

"Sounds good to me! Let's not give the Killik time, Niners begin fallback formations," Chaf'arcar'usorn opened communications, grimacing as the frequency fizzled with mild distortion. "Niner Alpha charges set, repeat, Niner Alpha charges set! Beginning evac of tunnels, timer set to ten! Sergeant Flaz'suz'safis, Alezan, get your people out as soon as possible!"

The Niners began moving out of the tunnel, their passage relatively easy following the initial push into the colony. The Killik were focused elsewhere, having centralized in the main hive, and that would be their undoing. The marines gathered their dead or wounded as they moved, using up most of the ten minute countdown in the effort. Chaf'arcar'usorn exited into the brighter day outside the cave systems with a chrono that had less than two minutes remaining, so he continued moving his people back toward the transports and security line.

"Niner Alpha clear of tunnels, repeat Niner Alpha clear," Chaf'arcar'usorn said over comms, looking toward the other colony entrances. "Confirm evac status all marine squads."

The second fleet confirms, permission to form up confirmed, all ready vessels are responding.”

“Very good, weapons control, free fire at your own discretion. Impress me.” Bella challenged her gunnery officers with a grin; All were aware that the Captain would be reviewing their work before a formal debriefing.

“Captain, Incoming transmission from Vice Admiral Mitth’orn’eruod-”

As the connection was made Bella turned to face a holoprojector to her right, her hands linked at the small of her spine as she nodded her greeting politely to the Admiral. She regarded the digital projection of the commanding officer with a warm smile of recognition as he spoke.

“Vice Admiral, We are glad to have served in this important objective. The second strike group acquitted themselves well, my recommendations for those who deserve special recognition will be with you shortly, sir.” the captain replied, noting the signs of his age in Thorne’s features. In Bella’s opinion, a few more years seemed to suit the Vice-Admiral.

“The bulk of the fleet is intact, superficial damage for the most part. Brrzt II and the Nhez’Cla bore the brunt of it. The Corvette would likely benefit from any assistance the second fleet can offer, though I have confidence Lieutenant Commander Ferzz’hime’ammi has the situation under control.”

She liked Zhime, a good man in a heavy fight, the Lieutenant Commander would make a fine Commander soon enough; When the next position arose aboard one of the cruisers, Bella would have to promote the man.

“Congratulations on carrying victory, Vice Admiral.”
