Digging for Adventure

"Oh mother, isnt the chariot, thats my cart. Jake will be glad to pull such a princess as yourself." Flinx led her to his cart and helped her onto the drivers seat. He hopped on next and whistled as Jake as he pulled them to the ship.

Saine's cheeks colored a deep crimson as she muttered an apology under her breath for misunderstanding what Flinx was trying to tell her. This wouldn't be the first time, either - she scolded herself inwardly. Pay attention, you're not on Ylesia anymore. No wonder you could never find a proper dig partner; no one would put up with your social awkwardness, ya silly thing. She brushed the thoughts astray and offered Flinx a grateful smile as he helped her into the cart. "Ready when you are," she grinned, reclining comfortably as Jake began pulling them in the direction of Flinx's vessel.

As Jake pulled the cart Flinx softly hummed and thanatos and shadow pooked their heads between the two, silently asking for pets and some attention. Flinx scratched the Maalraas's head letring Saine take the more familiar animal. "Jake here says you are very beautiful, for a humanoid, Shadow keeps telling me to be careful and Thanatos keeps going on and on about how soft your hands are. They speak to me through the force. I know its weird, but then arn't all families." Flinx would point out his ship in the docking bay. "Thats her, thats my ship, 'the Steady hand'." in front of them was a YT-2400 freighter. It was white with accent panels. It had been upgraded whit a much superior hyperdrive. it had the standard dorsal and ventral turbo lasers and as they moved onto the ship through the loading ramp Flinx hopped out and un coupled Jake and helped Saine off the cart. Afterwards he would push the cart with the force to its corner of the cargo bay and switch off the repulsers and switch on the magnaclamps. As he worked he talked Saine around the cargo hold. "This is the hold, Jake likes to sleep in here. over there in the other corner is two old ST-RT's I rebuilt. we will probebly be using those along with the cart on the dig. dont worry Ill help you learn how to pilot one if you dont already know. Do you need to go pick up your stuff and supplies? I totaly forgot to ask, sorry."

Saine hesitated a moment, then petted Thanatos gently. She had no fear of animals in general, even those she had encountered for the very first time. Animals were far less complicated than people and once you had gained their trust, you had their loyalty forever. Enjoying the rapport she was making with one of Flinx's pets, the flame-haired female did not flinch (or even blink) when the Miraluka male began telling her what his pets apparently thought of her. "Well, thank Jake for me and tell Shadow not to worry. I'm quite harmless," she reassured him, before looking down to Shadow with a grin. "But I do understand and cannot fault Shadow for his caution. I am still a stranger, after all. Perhaps time will resolve that issue," she looked back to Flinx and then followed the gesture of his hand toward the docking bay where the Steady Hand sat and waited.

"Ah, a Corellian freighter, I am well familiar with this type of ship," she reassured him, silently admiring the view. As they approached the vicinity of the loading ramp, Saine disembarked with the Miraluka's help, then followed him on board until they came to the cargo hold. She nodded as the man explained how things were arranged in there. As to his question, she merely waved her hands lightly. "No need to apologize. I can get my things without actually heading back to my ship. I have a droid that can take care of it for me."

And without waiting for Flinx to respond, she pulled out her comlink and activated a familiar frequency, before relaying a set of instructions to a bewildered droid's warbled reply.

Flinx listened to the conversation. "By the way shadow is a female. She is kind of the den mother here. Shadow, Twi, and Star are female and Thanatos and Jake are males. Now as to the rest of the group..." Flinx put his fingers in his mouth and gave a shrill whistle. All of the sudden a shyrack flew from the open cargo ribs of the ship and tucked its long spear like forarms in the folds of Flinx's robes looking like a libing winged backpack. A bb unit droid rolled in with a small white bird pirched on its head looking around curiously. It would look Saine streight in the eyes and would almost look like it was reading her. Then it would just close its eyes and almost look asleep. "Saine this is bb-3 and on top of them is Star, then this little lady," Flinx would pet the shyrack's head as she popped it over his shoulder, "this is Twi

"Nice to meet you, Twi," somewhat taken aback by the shyrack, Saine nevertheless attempted to put on a smile. She had never seen a menagerie of such beasts before, co-existing together in one environment - and with a Miraluka looking after their needs, to boot. "How do you get them to live at peace like this - and to be so pacified as not to attack other living creatures?" she asked curiously, wondering what kind of magic Flinx was 'weaving' here. The creatures did not look hypnotized? Nope, they looked to be behaving as normal, except they were not nearly as aggressive as she suspected, they would be in their respective native habitats.

"Oh, and hello, Bee-Bee-Three," she waved at the spherical astromech droid. "Is that your co-pilot, Flinx?"

"Yes, BB is my copilot and navi computer and chief engineer, and as to how my companions are so peaceful, well that's that force stuff I mentioned earlier. I tapped into their essence with the force. Basically we all speak the same language." Flinx finished stowing everything as he let his guest explore.

Saine listened quietly, remembering some of the research on the various species of fauna who had a particular affinity for the Force. "Yes, but normally a vornskr would not allow himself to be pacified like this? They are wild and vicious, and hunt Force users as their favorite prey. Force-link or not, it seems very unusual that one would become an entirely pacified household pet, unless there is some more to it?" The young woman could not help but wonder whether Flinx was using some very powerful darkside magic to keep these beasts sedate and docile. She also had little interest in exploring the freighter, for she had one similar to the Miraluka's ship - and knew most of its layout - by heart.

"Thanatos, saved me when I was on hus home planet. He was an abandoned pup and i was caught in a grove of Ysalimiri lizerds and thus their force blocking abilities made me blind. So we relied on each other. I fed him and he helped me navigate the planet." Flinx is just finishimg up as he pulled his lightsabers out of a pannel."When I met him i started constructing my second set of sabers. Each of my companions have a peice of themselves in these and we all are connected through these. We are a family, a herd, a pack if you will. So yah are we ready to go?"

"I am surprised he did not want to snack on you once you were safely out of the influence of the ysalamiri," Saine murmured quietly while nodding her understanding. "How did you get him to leave the planet? Normally, canine species travel and hunt in packs. You would think that he would like to have stayed at home. But I am asking too many questions, my apologies. It's this natural curiosity I have, about everything. If I am being obnoxious, just let me know. I don't want to piss off my ride to the best treasure dig I've had in months."

As for going, yeah - she was ready.

"He has his reasons, I guess we imprinted on each other, and no you are not being obnoxious. I admit I don't have all the answers. As alot of force weilders say "The force works in mysterious ways." I smile and go to the cockpit and sit in the pilots seat. BB-3 rolls into a bowl like depression and all his tool panels open as he extends computer manipulator arms and starts working on different functions and calculations. "Feel free to take the operations chair. I took the copilots seat out to make the command post for bb."

Following Flinx to the cockpit, she nodded in silence, acknowledging his first reply. It made a strange kind of sense, she thought. Mysterious or not, he either had no way of explaining it or he was unwilling to do so. Either way, she would not pry any further - at least for the time being. She watched the spherical astromech roll ahead of her, slipping into his hub in front of the main console and smiled, before taking up the proffered operations chair.

"Sure thing," Saine smiled in the Miraluka's direction, wondering whether he could detect this subtle change of demeanor in her face. Then, turning back to her console, she strapped herself into the safety restraints before her gaze rolled over the familiar setup. "Ready when you are, captain."

Flinx, who could tell her suble chainge much better than reading the consoles, looked over to the pannels and strapped his upper torso in, prefering to keep his legs tucked in a meditation pose. He took a deep breath,he waved a gand over the consol and gages abd switches moved on their own as everything spun up and roared to life. "bb, you know what to do, get us into orbit, slowly, I dont need you showing off for our guest." He smirked in her direction. "The last guest we had on nearly had both hearts fail him when bb here decided that the rubble feild of alderan would be a spot for acrobatics." bb would let out a disheartened whistle and its little dome would slide down its front in a shameful manner. "I know and I forgive you bb just get us into orbit and set a course for Dromund Fels."

Saine chuckled at the interaction between Flinx and the astromech; in all truth, she found the little spherical droid rather endearing. He definitely had personality, in spite of being a robotic entity. Her host's smile was promptly answered with one of her own as she locked her curious gaze upon him once more.

"Flinx, if you do not mind me asking, can you tell me if your species actually see what a person looks like? Can they perceive it in any way? Say, if they are smiling or crying or making an angry face? I have always wondered about that, with respect to the Miraluka."

"Its actualy interesting, from what I understand each miraluka perceives the world differently. For me.... well lets say you wanted to draw the interior of this cockpit. Well my vision looks similar to that. a drawing or blueprint of something, exept the background is black and all the lines are white. Now with living things they glow a color depending on their emotional state and what 'side' of the force they are on. So using those two I get a pretty decent picture of people. for you, I can see your face with almost perfect clarity, and you have a nice green glow to you which is a happy color to me. Now if you were a firey red then I would know you were angry, a dark dull blue would be sadness, a lighter blue that was bright would mean you are at peace, and a flickering yellow, like you looked in the cantina, would indicate nervousnes." Flinx would hope he wasnt boring her.

"So what you are saying is that you can perceive 'moods' of an individual by seeing an aura emanating from within and around them? Something like that? I hope I'm envisioning it correctly. Also, these 'blueprints' that you see - they are powered by the Force, correct? So if you were say, severed from your connection to the Force - would that make you completely blind?"

Flinx visibly shuttered, "That was one of the darkest times in my life. I was blind for 6 months and then an old friend of mine sent me to dathomire to let the whitches there help me, which is where I learned to be a beast master. do you realize they RIDE rancore?"

Saine felt a twinge of regret, almost immediately after seeing Flinx wince in visible discomfort. "I am sorry to have touched upon such an unpleasant subject; I had no idea you went through something like this, personally. It was most insensitive of me." And then, "As for the rancor riding on Dathomir - yes, I have heard of it - although never witnessed it in person. I've always wanted to visit Dathomir though . . . if only it was not such a perilous world. Going alone would probably get me killed."

"It would. The contact I had, had a favor he called in with the Mother of the night sisters. As for my time in the blindness, that is what allowed me to connect to my companions. They all lend me their strength through the force and through them I feel more in tune with the living force. But enough about me, tell me about yourself." Flinx would mentally tell his comanions to go to sleep as he punched it into hyperspace.
