Disney determines New SW Canon

What research I've done makes it likely they'll be doing the Darth Caedus crisis. If that's so, then there are many things that they cannot take out. Basic history of sstarwars. Large events such as Revan, Thrawn, and the Vong. If they take those out, they'll have an incredibly angry Star Wars loving red neck barging through their doors.

For those of you who are comic book readers, this canon transition should not be new or a surprise.

MARVEL has many alternate universes, theres the canon 616, theres an ultimate EU, a zombie EU, a monkey EU? you get the idea.

It may be too confusing and a bad business decision for Star Wars to follow Marvel in the use of EU. Have movie version EU, comics EU and games EU etc... with the same foundation such as what jedi are, the motives of an empire etc... and can have fun tweaking things such as origins for characters or something that other franchises love to do.

I would be okay with that if they made a Star Wars 616, A Disney Star Wars EU etc...

Also before any of this....whatever happened to mandalorian author Karen Travis?.........

Personally, I think this move by Disney is just an excuse to make whatever-the-hell-they-want movies, calling it canon.

They revamped Star Trek, to be sure, but Star Trek allows multiple dimensions. This was fine.

But now Disney gets ultimate veto over all things Star Wars?????
Well..... so long as they release a FU3.... even so, that may not turn out to be canon either.

We, as SWRPC, could label things Canon, Old Canon, Non-canon, with Canon being Disney canon, Old canon being all old canon (possible overlap) and non-canon is, well, non-canon.

Just an idea to solve a crisis.

What is it specifically you're each worried about loosing?

Recons and Reboots happen all the time, I've said this before MARVEL is an example of this. It has many separate EUs, even it's movies are considered a separate EU
.
Im not a tremendous fan of what DC comics has done in their New 52 reboot, theres still a plethora of previous material I have not even seen yet, the same with Star Wars having an immense EU now.

When the movies come out and what ever canon they borrow or completely disregard doesnt really matter. You know what PISSES me off about Disney? They made Natalie Portman's character in Thor/Avengers a scientist, she is not a scientist in the comics, she is an EMT. But hey they still have Jane Foster in their at least for name and intentional sake of being the main love intrest.

Star Wars Episode VII comes out, Luke has a son named Ben Skywalker, but the wife of Luke is never mentioned or completely different than Mara Jade, maybe its a red haired woman who trained as a Jedi, but her name is Jara Made. That is akward as a fan to see, but so what? You know what you like, what you think makes the star wars mythos a singular story such as post RotS events.

Take it as a seperate EU if you have to.

Seeing is believing, but one must see first.
I think it depends on what the keep and what they take away from the EU. Some stuff, yes, should be taken out because it doesn't work or it's just unneeded. Things like some of the video games or books that might not fully add up. But I don't think they should get rid of everything because there's a lot of good stuff to come from the EU that works. I'll admit when I heard they were doing more Star Wars movies I was worried, mainly because it's hard to figure what to do next since the actors are way older. Personally i think a story based around the Thrawn trilogy series would work; also adding in a character like Admiral Daala, she was pretty badass. Other than that I really don't know think the whole of the EU should just be erased like that.

I would say that I rather don't like the idea to get rid of some of the EU. I understand and I can deal with some of the stuff being taken out, but I don't like it. as for that, I don't like the idea for Disney to own lucas arts anyways, They were working on Project 1313 and I was so amped up to see that. Hell, thats what got me to like Mandalorians more and just the back story of the fetts over all, even bounty hunters for that matter, but because disney bought lucas arts, they scrapped the idea because the game was getting alot of reviews of the M rating stature. and so to keep their name they, instead of just fixing the more violent and gruesome parts, threw it out of the ball park never to be seen again.

As much as I could care less for another Star wars movie, the could have just made a different timeline, or even done a different persons perspective of an already cannon event. hell, even a story of clone troopers in battle who honored or hated the Jedi during that time would be a good movie. IMO.

Here we have created our own characters in a SW parallel universe, I enjoy many of the characters here so I am open for Disney version.
If it is bad it will not make money so they are checking with advisors, so their pockets are full. Topps trading cards has issued new SW cards, wonder if they have new characters included.

My hope, is that they use the characters that we love from the EU, reintroduce them to people that are casual fans, and take us in a completely different direction with the story. Give fans those familiar characters to hold onto, yet give us something brand new at the same time. Maybe a new villain or conflict that we've never seen before. But keep an element that makes people say. "ya, THIS is Star Wars."

It wouldn't bother me at all if they didn't get rid of the vong. Never like those series of books. If they hadn't kill Chewie, than turn around kill Anakin making Chewie sacrifice wasted. I might have a different opinion on those books.

Go Disney!
Axe it all!
*cackles*

EU made the Force WAY too epic. I'd love to see the it regulated tighter to put a stop to this magical nonsense and return to the sci-fi aspect of the sci-fi fantasy.

I have to wonder why people think this is a big thing. It's not. Seriously. A lot of people read the EU before, and they will continue to read it. Zhan will have written good books regardless of whether or not they're canon. People on boards will likely be awesometastic and use EU powers even if they stopped being canon.

This will change nothing for 99% of people.

I honestly couldn't care less. They could tell me none of the Marvel Comics from the 70's & 80's were canon and that the Rogue/Wraith Squadron books never happened, and it still wouldn't diminish my love for either. Same reason John M. Ford's Star Trek books are personal favorites. It doesn't matter if the Canon Police include them, it only matters if I, or you, or that person over there, liked them.

Well I think they need to keep everything pre-Episode I. The Old Republic has some of the fans favorite characters and stories, people would boycott them if they rid of it. Now when it comes to post-Return, I think everything, with the exception of the Thrawn Trilogy and Darth Krayt, be taken out.

I don't see why they can't base the new films on the many novel series that have come out in the past years. I mean there is so much potential and opportunities now for them to pick something. Why start something completely new and get rid of stuff because it interferes!?!?
