Dragon Age: Inquisition

Been playing a bit of it between school work. I dig it.

All the companions are weird, lore-wise. Except Varric, since that's Varric. And possibly Iron Bull, just because he tells it straight. And weird mostly because it's completely new stuff to the lore.

The game just makes me facepalm somewhat. The prologue boss is an enemy that people used to have serious issues with back in Origins and 2. And within five minutes, I knew who the end boss was going to be. Top that off with combat animations ripped from DA2 that don't automatically attack, a smaller variety of abilities and talents, and five minute area loading times, and it's becoming somewhat of a pain.

Crafting is going to be a nightmare, particularly since you have to hunt for materials DA:eek: style instead of DA2 style. You can't send your companions to get items or loot people either. And you have less initial backpack space than in Origins or 2.

And there's an enemy that's weaker than shades. Weaker. Than. Shades.

I really like it overall but at first I was a bit lost because everything felt so different. They sure did try to make this more like Skyrim than anything else which is a little weird but kind of fun at the same time. Though it sucks that you don't know when you're going to run into enemies too tough for you or not. I really liked the whole planning out where forces would go and operations while you're doing your missions. Characters are cool enough though there's no way of knowing where they stand with you in terms of approval which is a bit off-putting since I can't tell if they like me enough or not.

As a guy who's put in ~28ish hours into the SP, crafting is not a problem, at least in the beginning of the game. While materials are more DAO style they are extremely abundant. Pots take one basic mat each, mats can be bought, the detector helps spot them, and later in the game you can send Cullen/Josey/Leilana on missions for mats/coins for free. Crafting weapons is altogether unnecessary in normal gameplay(with the notable exception of Bianca Upgrades). A good crafted armor on the otherhand can last you a very long while, though really isn't necessary. Requisition orders are filled pretty easily. As for the story, well, this is a 70+ hour campaign. Get you feet wet before dismissing it after "five minutes". Maybe the story's not deep but the presentation is. Maybe the presentation sucks but the characters and lore are rich. Keep going man, and have a little faith.

The only problem I am having is with the Graphics. I can play SW:TOR fine but DA:I looks like a fourth rate version of The Simpsons season 1. I have been playing with the settings some but so far not impressed. Story wise is meh but only put in a few hours so far.

Ultra graphics look great, the only issue I have is with the shiny polish look on the hair. It reminds me of the art style of Saints Row 3. The story is okay, though I disliked that they copped out on the prologue, I would have much preferred the way they introduced characters in DAO, which was what I was looking for.

I am having that same issue graphics wise combined with what can only be described as serious lag even on the lower settings. I know my desktop meets the spec requirements, I double checked them, but I am downloading it on my laptop now which has better specs. Maybe it will run better on my laptop.

Yeah the prologue was a big let down for me as well but at the same time story wise the prologue they use for Inquisition makes for a better story.

Do you use intel or AMD or Nvidia/other? I know AMD graphic cards have issues with this while intel and Nvidia(Of course) have a better time handling it. I'm running it fine on my laptop, and while there's lag whenever I enter a new and wide-open area for a couple seconds while textures load while they pop up, they render quite well and it isn't unbearable.

But yes, the graphics do have some rendering issues (you can watch the graphics render like an image on a browser)

After 13 painful hours of trying to download it on my laptop it works a lot better on it than my desktop. The downside is I have to run it on the low settings. I think I need a better computer.

/me shrugs.

You know what this reminds me of a little bit? Skyrim.

The open areas, the semi-manual attacks and so on. Even the random caves and dungeons you come across remind me of the exploration of Skyrim.

Overall, so far it's been a massive improvement over DA2's very narrow and limited setting.

More to come soon.

Also: Place spoilers in spoiler tags with a warning.

To be fair, for you to even remotely know what happens story-wise, you have to have played everything DA, from Origins to DA2 and all the DLC. Otherwise things don't make sense.

No desire demons seen as of yet. I'm disappointed.
