Canon Link: N/A
Restricted Mission: N/A
Intent: To create a specialized droid brain for use in EODD droid lines
Development Thread: N/A (if needed)
Product Information
Manufacturer: EODD
Model: EB-S Droid Brain
Affiliation: Free Worlds Coalition, Metal Lords, select buyers
Modularity: N/A
Production: Limited
Material: Durasteel, Gabonna memory crystal, gold, copper, rubber, various electronics
Strengths
Versatility: The EB-S series droid brain is built to allow its users to access the two classes of droid programming in one, vastly improving its capabilities as a single unit and limiting the need for several droids to perform a single function.
Durability: Utilizing a shaped durasteel frame and casing, the EB-S is a hardy system that can withstand external blows to its droid unit as well as direct hits from blaster fire and slugs should it be exposed to outside threats.
Anti-slicing features: Slicing is a threat with all sorts of technology and the EB-S is no different. That aside, all units sold to particular users come with a code that is required to be input before programming can be accessed, and should this code be bypassed or tampered with, the system will lock down. Internal electronics will release a discharge to short out the brain, hopefully preventing would-be slicers from taking what secrets the droid brain may hold.
Weaknesses
Non-transferrable construction: The EB-S is built with a very specific design due to its protective shell, which only allows for connections to the droid body through four openings at the sides, rear, and bottom. Thus the droid body must be constructed specifically to use the EB-S, and it cannot be transferred to most other droid types without significant, likely costly, modifications to the body unit.
Weight: Despite being only slightly larger than most typical droid brains, the EB-S is significantly heavier due to its durasteel framework and plating. This requires droid designs made with this brain in mind must contain strengthened neck systems(should the brain be held in a head rather than torso) in order to support it.
Expert slicing: Though the EB-S comes with features to protect it from slicing attempts, it is by no means 100% protected. More experienced slicers may find themselves with little to no challenge taking on these mechanisms, and as the discharge is on a set timer, should they fully break through the systems in time they can prevent damage while having full access to the droid’s programming and memory storage.
Electronic warfare: The EB-S contains no EMP shielding, and is fully reliant on EMP and ion shielding systems on its droid body for protection from such attacks.
Description
The EB-S Droid Brain is the result of a need for a specialized brain for use in select EODD droid designs that can handle multiple types of programming concurrently in order to provide droids the ability to handle a variety of issues with a single unit and cut down on the need for multiple droid models. It achieves this in allowing for two separate types of programming to be stored within a single unit while also allowing for autonomous action by the droid housing it without a dependence on a control signal. It combines versatile programming within a durable shell, and contains several features to prevent slicing threats.
The brain does not come without drawbacks, however, as it lacks any sort of EMP shielding, meaning it is fully reliant on similar systems on the droid body it is attached to. It also cannot be refitted to a droid body that isn’t made to hold it specifically without heavy modifications to the body, and is very heavy compared to most marketable droid brains.
Who may use this: EODD personnel, listed factions. Allies of said factions may purchase in large quantities with a contract.
