Private Edge of the Unknown

AmeTemp.png

"Oh, I would never do something so uncouth... I'll wait until we're crossing a river."

Amelia said with a sly smirk as they stepped into the room, her hand brushing against Valery's side as she gently nudged the woman towards a small tide pool tank. Chuckling to herself, she stepped over and looked into the water before her attention was drawn to the small console. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she looked over the information, nodding silently before she looked back at the tide pool. The water circulated gently, providing a clear view of the underwater foliage that dominated the tank as well as a few rocks and driftwood enrichments that had been placed in the pool.

"It looks like the Blue-finned Crayfish are hiding today."

She said before looking down at the console again, checking over the information before setting it back in place. Her attention remained on the small tank, watching as a few Stone Crabs scuttled from one hiding place to the next, a soft smirk crossing her lips as she watched them. Reaching forward, she dipped her hand in the water, checking that the temperature on the readout felt the same, nodding as she pulled her hand from the water.

That sly smirk remained on her lips as she looked at Valery before shaking her hand in the woman's direction, intent on flicking water at the Jedi's face. It didn't matter, either in here with the aquariums or out while exploring the unknowns of the planet, Amelia would find a way to get Valery wet in some manner.

"I have a couple more shallow tidal pools like this one. Of course, there's also the larger enclosed aquariums."

Amelia said as she nodded towards the larger tanks that ran from the floor to the ceiling above, each filled with a myriad of aquatic creatures and foliage.

Valery barely had a moment to admire how the light danced on the aquatic plants before she felt the cool water droplets flick against her face. She gasped softly in surprise, blinking as the tiny beads of water clung to her skin. With a playful glare, she turned to Amelia, who looked far too amused by her little prank.

"Oh, so that's how it's going to be?" Valery smirked back, wiping the water away with the back of her hand.

She took a step closer, her gaze challenging. "I'd say you're asking for payback, but I wouldn't want to be the one ruining all your nice enclosures."

Her voice softened as she glanced around once more, the wonder still evident in her expression. "But seriously, Amelia… this is beyond anything I could have imagined. It's not just impressive — it's inspiring."

The sincerity in her voice was genuine, and as Valery reached out to place a gentle hand on the glass of a nearby aquarium, she let out a breath. "You've built more than a ship; you've built a haven for these creatures."

"I warned you that you would be getting wet in here..."

Amelia said with a sly smirk as she stepped away from the tidal pool and moved toward the larger aquariums. Her attention shifted away from Valery as she pulled open a panel next to the aquarium to reveal another small console. As she freed the console from the recessed storage, a soft smirk remained on her lips as she laughed to herself about the small prank. Nimble fingers gracefully moved over the console, her golden-yellow hues looking up from the console into the aquarium the water shimmering with a silvery reflection.

"Looks like the Glimmerfish eggs have hatched, that'll make the Sea-mouses happy. And the Alderaan Beach Snails are doing fine as well."

She looked down at the console again, typing in a few commands to update the automated systems before she set the console back into its recessed storage space. A soft smile crossed her lips as she listened to Valery, her focus returning to the aquarium as she watched the vast school of Glimmerfish swimming through the aquarium. Perhaps it was her way of trying to balance the scales, to protect the vulnerable creatures of the Galaxy as a means to offset the death and destruction that she had both witnessed and in some cases wrought.

Amelia nodded quietly, plying Valery with a smile as she placed her hand on the transparisteel of the aquarium. Looking back at the aquarium again, she took a moment to stand there in silence. Amelia had never truly taken a moment to just admire the work, or perhaps, it had just been so long since she could remember the last time she just silently watched the creatures that she had been housing in this secret haven.

Valery watched Amelia closely, her smile softening at the sight of her friend so engrossed in the aquariums. She took a step closer, admiring the shimmering Glimmerfish and the other creatures darting around the tank. Each species had its own unique grace and beauty, creating a vibrant display of life that seemed almost magical.

"I have to admit, I didn't expect to find something like this on your ship," Valery murmured, her tone filled with genuine admiration. "It's a little paradise… and I can tell how much you care about them."

She glanced at Amelia's hand resting against the transparisteel, noting the subtle shift in her expression — that mixture of pride and calm that only came when someone was deeply connected to their work. "I think you're doing more than balancing the scales here. You're creating a sanctuary for these creatures, just like how you protect others out there."

Valery turned her gaze back to the water, watching the fish move in synchronized patterns. "I know there's a lot of darkness out there, but seeing this… it's a reminder that there's still so much light to preserve."

The Grandmaster's eyes lingered on the dancing reflections for a moment longer before she shifted slightly and chuckled softly. "But if you're planning on drenching me again, at least let me get a change of clothes first," she teased, giving Amelia a playful nudge.

That same devilish smirk crossed her lips as she glanced at Valery for a moment before she turned her attention away. There were still plenty of chances and moments to do just that. Slipping away, Amelia checked the next aquarium, her golden-yellow hues peering into the nearly clear water, watching as the Chandrila Squigs slipped through the liquid with ease. A soft smirk remained, tugging at the corner of her lips as she looked over the information on the readout.

Each task was repeated just as before, her nimble fingers slipping over the console before setting it back into its recessed storage. The automated system chimed as it began to release pellets into the water, the eel-like Squigs burst into a flurry of activity as they rushed to feed. Looking back at Valery, Amelia nodded her head towards another door before making her way from the room. The vessel was large, each part constructed with a specific need or amenity, and there was still much of the vessel left to be seen.

Stepping into the room, Amelia pulled at the cuirass she wore, carefully removing it and setting it aside as she stood before the vast pool of water. Unlike the other aquariums, this one was empty save for a few underwater foliage that had been added to assist in keeping the water clean. Looking back to the door, Amelia continued to remove her armor and set it aside carefully.

"We've still a few hours until the computer is done with the scans."

Amelia said as she stepped towards the large pool, the scent of sea salt filling the air as an automated system created a series of soft rolling waves that crashed upon the synthetic shoreline. With a smirk and a nod, Amelia motioned to the pool before she made her way towards the edge only remaining in her bodysuit... for the moment.

Valery's eyebrow arched slightly as she watched Amelia shed her armor piece by piece. A playful smile tugged at her lips as she stepped closer, her gaze following every movement with interest and a hint of mischief. "Well, I suppose if we have a few hours…" Valery murmured softly, her voice trailing off as her eyes drifted to the synthetic waves that washed against the pool's shore.

The subtle scent of the water brought with it a sense of calm, but Valery knew Amelia wasn't just setting up a peaceful moment by the water. This was all part of their little games and challenges.

Perhaps revenge for the jokes about drool?

"Are you trying to lure me in for a swim and get your revenge?" Valery teased, glancing at the pool before looking back at Amelia, who now stood at the water's edge, her body outlined by the gentle glow of the overhead lights. The soft fabric of her bodysuit accentuated her athletic figure, making the sight almost too distracting. With a small chuckle, Valery began to unfasten her own tunic, slowly slipping it off to reveal a form-fitting undershirt beneath. She ran a hand through her hair, letting it fall loosely over her shoulders, and then stepped closer to the pool.

"What do you think we'll get out of the scans?" Valery asked, trying to remain somewhat serious between the jokes and teasing, "Do you think this will be the right place? Or do you worry we might have to visit other planets?"

AmeTemp.png

"This planet does show promise, though I wouldn't also rule out checking neighboring systems. Much of this region remains unexplored... Wild.."

Amelia said softly, her attention shifting from the salt-water pool to her companion. It would have been a lie to say that she didn't also take that moment to admire the Jedi standing before her only to then turn her attention back to the water. A soft smirk upon her lips as she stepped in further, the bodysuit already beginning to cling to her form as the water slowly slipped up to her knees. Turning back to Valery, she leaned down, her hand scooping into the water before flinging some back towards the woman.

"Oh, this isn't revenge... not just yet. The pool also has a few features that don't seem to agree with the automated systems."

She said before turning back toward a small pillar that rose out of the water. Amelia stepped forward, moving deeper into the water until it was up to her waist as she stood next to the small pillar. Nimble fingers pressed against the side, revealing a small compartment that held a few A99 Aquata Breathers. Carefully removing two of them, gently pressed the side of the pillar again to close the compartment. Turning back to Valery, Amelia stepped forward and extended her arm towards the woman.

"I'm sure you have some experience with these, right?"

Amelia asked as she began to carefully inspect the device that she had taken for herself. That soft smile still upon her lips before her golden-yellow hues settled on the shimmering, shifting waves of the pool.

Valery watched Amelia with a mix of amusement and curiosity, her gaze lingering on the way the water rippled around her companion. The pool was serene, but there was an underlying energy — perhaps from the promise of something unknown, or simply from being in the presence of someone as captivating as Amelia.

With a smile tugging at her lips, Valery stepped closer to the pool, ignoring the cold water that soaked into her boots as she crossed over to meet Amelia. "Oh, I know my way around those," she replied with a playful arch of her brow as she accepted the Aquata Breather. She turned it over in her hands, testing its weight and inspecting the mouthpiece before looking back at Amelia, her own fiery gaze meeting those golden-yellow hues.

"So, what exactly are we diving into?" she asked, her tone carrying a hint of intrigue. But before Amelia could respond, Valery smirked and flicked a few drops of water back at her, just a gentle tease.

"You owe me a good adventure after all of this."

AmeTemp.png

Amelia took a moment to look over the Aquata Breather in her hand, carefully inspecting the object before she brought it to her lips and placed the mouthpiece snuggly in her mouth. Taking a few deep breaths, she checked the seal before freeing it as she looked back at Valery just in time to be splashed with a few drops of water from the Jedi. A soft smirk crossed her lips as she raised her eyebrow.

"I see, so you prefer to strike when your quarry is unaware... How very un-Jedi-like..."

She teased in return before she closed the distance between the two of them. Her golden-yellow hues focused on Valery, locking with her fiery gaze as she towered over the woman and leaned forward. That devilish grin remained on her lips, the edge of her mouth curled as she nodded quietly before she slowly straightened herself before motioning toward the water again.

"Have you been to the ocean planet of Dac?"

Amelia asked as she began to slowly walk back into the depths of the water, wading into the gentle surf until she was standing waist deep. She took a deep breath, taking in the synthetic scent of ocean air and feeling the sea breeze that gently slipped through the chamber.

"I'm sure you'll enjoy this adventure..."

Valery chuckled softly, watching as Amelia leaned forward with that devilish grin. Despite the tease about being un-Jedi-like, she felt no need to defend herself. Instead, she flashed a playful smile back. "Maybe I'm not quite as predictable as you thought," she replied, her fiery gaze never leaving Amelia's.

When Amelia mentioned Dac, Valery's smile softened with curiosity, "I haven't actually been to Dac yet," she admitted, a hint of curiosity sparkling in her fiery eyes. "But I've visited other oceanic planets, like Manaan and Glee Anselm. There's something so peaceful about being surrounded by water… or maybe I just like seeing the ocean from a different perspective."

She glanced down at the clear water, then back up at Amelia with a smirk. "So, show me what makes this place special. I'm ready for whatever surprises you've got in store."

As she slipped the Aquata Breather into her mouth, she shot Amelia a daring look, then slowly submerged herself, ready to follow her lead into the deeper waters of the simulated ocean environment. A spark of excitement flared in her eyes as she motioned for Amelia to join her below the surface.

AmeTemp.png

"Close your mind... The creatures in these waters are highly telepathic. Usually harmless to an individual of my species, I'm not sure if your species has a similar protection."

Amelia offered a slight smile before she carefully fitted the Aquata Breather into her mouth whilst making her way further into the calm waters of the simulated ocean. Closing her eyes for a moment, she slowly submerged herself in the water before those golden-yellow hues snapped back open. Looking to her companion, she motioned towards the deeper end, the sand that made up the simulated shore dropping off gradually as it slopped down.

It would become difficult for them to communicate, however, Amelia was confident enough that Valery would be able to pick up on her body language and minor cues. Amelia pushed forward, slipping through the water as though she were born to it; her hands taking hold of a submerged piece of wood and pulling forward to propel herself further into the depths of the simulated ocean environment. The lights of the room above began to dim, the water becoming darker as they pushed forward before Amelia stopped for a moment, her golden-yellow hues settling on Valery as she reached out for the woman.

Gently slipping her arm around her waist, she pulled the woman in closer, her other hand pulling them both toward a large rock. Motioning quietly with her hand, she pointed toward a small glowing creature. A soft smile slipped over her lips as she carefully watched the creature, as one by one, it was joined by more and more until a vast collection of Moappa filled the water with a soft pink glow.

Valery's gaze lingered on Amelia for a moment, processing her warning about the telepathic creatures. She gave a firm nod, her fiery eyes softening in acknowledgment before she closed her mind off, letting the focus of her meditation slip inward. The steady rhythm of her breathing through the Aquata Breather anchored her, even as she followed Amelia deeper into the darkened waters.

As they descended, Valery's senses adapted to the dimming light, the shifting hues of the simulated ocean casting a dreamlike quality to everything around them. Her body moved gracefully through the water, following Amelia's cues as though they were in perfect sync. The bond they were forming felt unspoken, an understanding that transcended words or gestures.

When Amelia wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her closer, Valery blinked and glanced over, feeling the sudden proximity ignite a subtle spark of warmth in her chest. She let the sensation settle, her smile hidden by the breather but visible in the way her gaze softened. Together, they drifted through the water until Amelia motioned toward the soft pink glow ahead.

Valery's eyes widened with awe. The Moappa were unlike any underwater creature she had seen before. Their gentle bioluminescence painted the water in a delicate, ethereal glow, and as more of them joined, it felt like they were being enveloped in a constellation of living stars.

Reaching out, Valery brushed her fingers gently against the current, watching as the creatures swirled and shimmered in response. She turned her gaze back to Amelia, an expression of pure wonder etched in her eyes. This place, this moment, was more than just another adventure—it was something deeply calming and beautiful.

Amelia watched silently, her golden-yellow hues slipping between the small creature and her companion. With a soft smile, she motioned toward the floor of the simulated ocean as she began to move closer to the bottom. She would, from time to time, carefully move Valery, her hand lightly touching her hip or side to give a silent nudge to grab her attention or direct her as they slipped further beneath the waves.

Slowly, from the darkness below, the shifting branches of Seatrees began to emerge. Once more, Amelia quietly motioned to Valery, pointing toward the canopy of the trees that teamed with Tumblebaskers and Needlefish. Entire schools of the creatures would slowly slip in and out of the branches which seemed to grow and entangle together into a large network. There was an odd sense of peace, even as a Needlefish got too close to a Blossoming Gulper hidden in the sand at the base of one of the trees. The gulper quickly seized the fish before dragging it into the sand.

Though she kept many of them safe, Amelia also understood the need to keep a natural cycle existing. Though she and her companion knew that the ocean was a simulation, carefully crafted, many of these creatures did not know they were sitting in a vast tank on a starship far from home. Amelia reached out, her hand gently brushing against Valery's shoulder as she motioned to the canopy of the Seatrees before swimming closer to the foliage.

Reaching up, she carefully plucked one of the strange air-filled fruit-like bladders that kept the canopy afloat in the gentle currents. Amelia held the small fruit-like sac in her hand before letting go, watching as it began to slowly float away before it was quickly snatched by a passing Tumblebasker.

Valery drifted silently beside Amelia, her gaze following the gentle sweep of her companion's hand as it guided her deeper into the simulated ocean's embrace. The quiet nudges to her hip and side were subtle reminders of Amelia's presence—a calming, steadying force as they descended through the dark waters.

When the Seatrees emerged from the shadows below, Valery's breath caught in her throat. The vibrant canopy of tangled branches teemed with life, and a sense of tranquility washed over her as she watched the Tumblebaskers and Needlefish weave in and out of the foliage.

She followed Amelia's lead, her eyes widening slightly as she observed the gulper seize its unsuspecting prey. Valery glanced at Amelia, her gaze lingering on the serene expression on her companion's face. There was a profound respect for nature's balance in the way she moved and interacted with the environment, a quiet acceptance of the cycle of life and death.

As Amelia's hand brushed against her shoulder, Valery's lips curved into a soft smile. She swam closer, watching with fascination as Amelia plucked one of the buoyant, fruit-like sacs from the Seatrees. When it floated upward and was quickly snatched by a passing Tumblebasker, Valery chuckled softly, her voice a mere whisper in the quiet depths around them.

Speaking underwater was impossible, but she could still communicate her joy.

Golden-yellow hues fell upon her companion, watching Valery closely as she read her body language, watching her muffled laughter at the sight of the fish quickly snatching the small fruit-like sac. There was a similar look of serene silence upon her face, as though Valery being there had a calming effect on the woman that allowed her to open herself up more than she normally would have otherwise. There were few in the Galaxy that even knew she kept a private vessel of such a size, fewer still knew of the existence of her menagerie including the ocean they were navigating.

Amelia let out a soft sigh, bubbles slipping from around the rebreath as though a burden had been released from her shoulders. Reaching out, she gently wrapped her arm around Valery, drawing her in closer to capture her companion's attention once more. Motioning toward the rocks below and a soft glow eminating from them, she nodded silently before she began to slip back towards the depths.

As much as they had seen already, there was still one final sight that she wished to share with Valery; a secret that was well kept and well protected by remaining hidden. Amelia allowed her attention to remain on Valery for a moment longer before she turned away and began to push toward the soft glow beyond the rocks. Gentle currents slowly slipped through the water, the feeling seeming to calm Amelia more as her shoulders dropped and she rolled her head, feeling some semblance of relief and peace for the first time in many years.

Reaching out for the rocks, Amelia slipped her fingers into a firm hold, her other arm reached out to take Valery's hand and pull her in closer. Motioning with her head, she slowly pulled herself up and assisted Valery in reaching the top of the small pile of rocks to reveal a cluster of mollusks resting on the other side, their shells giving off a soft yellow glow.

It was one of the only Knowledge Banks outside of Mon Calamari...

Valery drifted closer as Amelia's arm wrapped around her, the comforting presence of her companion soothing her nerves in the deep, quiet ocean. Her gaze followed Amelia's gesture toward the soft glow beyond the rocks, and curiosity sparked in her eyes. What could Amelia be hiding down here, in the heart of this tranquil underwater world?

When Amelia began to guide her down toward the light, Valery allowed herself to be led, her senses drinking in the beauty of the illuminated path. Each gentle current that brushed against her seemed to carry away the weight of the galaxy above, and as they moved deeper, she felt a strange sense of calm settle over her — something she hadn't felt in a long time.

As they reached the top of the small pile of rocks, Valery's eyes widened in wonder. The cluster of glowing mollusks resting just beyond the rocks radiated a soft, ethereal light, casting mesmerizing patterns across the surrounding water. The sight took her breath away, and she turned her gaze back to Amelia, a look of deep gratitude and admiration filling her expression.

Amelia's serenity in this place, the peace that seemed to wash over her, made Valery's heart ache with warmth. She reached out, her fingers gently brushing against the glowing shells, and glanced back at her companion. The significance of what she was being shown — this rare, almost sacred place — was not lost on her.

"This is… incredible," Valery mouthed silently, her eyes reflecting the gentle glow of the Knowledge Bank. She didn't need words to express what she felt — the bond between them, forged through shared experiences and unspoken understanding, spoke louder than any words ever could.

dNwUCRF.png

Amelia watched silently, those golden-yellow hues falling upon Valery as she reached out, her hand brushing slightly against the shells. Slipping forward, Amelia brought her hand up, motioning for Valery to move back as she slipped forward through the water. Closing her eyes, she took in a deep breath to focus herself before she allowed her innate mental shield to loosen, her hands gently pressing against the shell of the mollusk. Her mind slipped away for a moment, memories of the last few years flickering into existence before slipping back into the darker recesses of her mind.
Mere moments were all it took before Amelia's hands slipped away, her body relaxed, limp, floating in the ocean. Shortly after her eyes snapped open, her attention falling on Valery once more before she motioned toward the surface and tapped her wrist. As much as she would have enjoyed remaining in the depths with her companion, they were pushing the limit of their time. However, a soft smile slipped over her lips as she saw just how enamored and filled with wonder that the sight had given to Valery.
Amelia slipped through the gentle currents, her arm slipping around Valery again as she brought the Jedi in close, nodding her head as she motioned once more toward the surface. Reaching up with her free arm, she began to pull the two of them away from the depths, only stopping from time to time in small intervals to acclimatize their bodies once more. Though her mind raced with thoughts, memories welling up and ebbing back into the darkness like the tides, she was calm. That sense of serenity remained, as though just being near Valery was helping calm a tempest that would otherwise be normally raging within herself.
As they ascended, the lights above slowly came into view, the depths once more growing darker and darker as the faint glowing slipped away. Pushing through the surface, Amelia pulled the rebreather free from her mouth and took in a deep breath before falling back against the water. Her eyes closed as she lay on the surface, floating peacefully, a soft smile on her lips.

Valery allowed herself to be guided upward by Amelia, feeling the gentle pressure of her arm around her as they ascended through the darkening depths. The glow of the Knowledge Bank slowly faded below them, but the sense of peace it had bestowed lingered within her, wrapping around her heart like a warm embrace. As they reached the surface, Valery pushed the rebreather from her mouth, taking in a deep, steadying breath.

Her gaze turned to Amelia, watching her float serenely on the water's surface, and a soft smile touched her lips. It was a rare moment of stillness, where the chaos of their world seemed a distant memory. She let herself float beside her companion, reaching out to gently touch her arm — a silent way of saying thank you for sharing this place, this moment.

"I've never seen anything like that," Valery whispered softly, her voice barely carrying over the gentle ripple of water. "Thank you for sharing it with me."

For a moment, Valery let the silence stretch between them, the bond they shared filled with unspoken emotions. She then turned her gaze to the stars above, feeling a strange sense of calm she hadn't felt in years.

"Whenever you want to show me more, I'll always be here. Though I should probably share more of my own life too, at some point."

dNwUCRF.png

Amelia remained quiet, still, floating aimlessly in the gentle currents of the simulated ocean as she collected herself. She felt Valery touch her arm, and for a moment was surprised. Normally she would have flinched, pulled back, or set her guard and located the origin of contact. With Valery she did none of those, she was calm, trusting; her guard was down for the first time in many years all because she felt she could trust the Jedi that was floating in the gentle currents beside her. With a soft sigh, she took in a deep breath before her eyes opened slowly, admiring the pattern of stars on the ceiling panels above simulating a night sky.

"That was a Knowledge Bank."

She wasn't sure why she felt the need to tell Valery, yet she knew that the woman wouldn't go rushing off and blab that the Supreme Commander was hiding such a rarity, no less one of cultural and historical importance to Mon Cala, on her vessel. With a soft smile upon her lips, she turned her head slightly, golden-yellow hues falling upon Valery as she reached her arm out, taking the woman's hand in her own so they wouldn't float too far away from one another.

"On Dac, or Mon Calamari, they're known as Pakoukou. They're Sentient and use Telepathy to communicate and gather knowledge about the events on the planet. This group was saved from the Brynadul when they went on their attempted conquest of the Galaxy. I've kept them here, hidden and protected."

Amelia let out a soft sigh of relief, as though a burden had been lifted from her shoulders once she had shared the information that she had so closely guarded since her days in the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Valery floated alongside Amelia, letting the calm of the simulated ocean match the peaceful connection forming between them. Her amber eyes softened as Amelia spoke of the Pakoukou and their significance, and she felt the weight of the responsibility her friend had carried for so long.

With a gentle squeeze of Amelia's hand, Valery smiled, her voice filled with warmth and respect. "Thank you for sharing that with me. What you've done — protecting them, preserving their knowledge — is extraordinary." Valery's gaze flickered to the ceiling where the stars twinkled softly, reflecting in the water, before returning to Amelia.

"I know how important that history is, not just for Mon Cala but for the galaxy. You've done more than protect knowledge; you've kept hope alive for future generations." Something they were trying to elaborate on with this idea of a bvault.

She paused and placed both hands on her stomach as she stared up at the simulated starlit sky. "If you ever need someone to help you protect them or even just share the weight, you know you can trust me." Valery's voice was steady, her words filled with genuine care. She had no intention of betraying the trust Amelia had shown by revealing such a precious secret.
