Private Edge of the Unknown

Amelia closed her eyes for a moment, taking in a deep breath and holding it as she lay on the surface of the water. She listened, silently, though showed no outward response at that moment. A soft sigh slipped from her lips as she released the held breath and slipped into the water once more before she pulled herself back to the surface. Looking at Valery, she offered a soft smile before motioning towards the shoreline, her golden-yellow hues falling up the astromech droid waiting patiently.

"Looks like R2-RX is waiting for us."

She said before slipping back into the waters, allowing herself to once more float on the surface as she wanted to hold onto the fleeting moment for just a while longer. Were it up to her, she would stay as she was, hidden away on a planet at the edge of the Galaxy with a trusted companion, paying no mind nor heed to the outside world and troubles of the Galaxy. Unfortunately, they didn't have that luxury, no matter how pleasant and desirable the dream was.

"We're coming..."

Amelia said as her ears perked up, hearing the annoyed beeping from the shoreline as she righted herself. As she brought her arm up, ready to pull herself toward the shore, a soft smirk slipped over her lips. Her hand came down firmly into the water as she formed a small cup before pulling her hand up and throwing a handful of water at Valery in a playful retaliation for her earlier 'attack'. That same smirk remained as she began to swim away from her companion.

Valery chuckled softly as Amelia mentioned the astromech waiting for them, glancing toward the shoreline where R2-RX was indeed beeping with impatience. She understood the feeling — sometimes duty called, even when all you wanted was a few more moments of peace. Just as she was about to reply, the splash of water caught her by surprise. Valery blinked, the shock quickly turning into a playful grin. "Oh, you're going to regret that," she teased, wiping her face before sending her own wave of water in Amelia's direction.

A small warning, for later.

Laughing, Valery swam after her friend, the earlier conversation lingering in her mind. It was rare to find these peaceful moments amidst their chaotic lives, and she intended to cherish them for as long as they lasted.

"We better not keep RX waiting too long, or he might blow a circuit," Valery joked, her playful energy giving way to the familiar sense of camaraderie that made these moments so special.

They might not always have the luxury of time, but these moments made it all worth it.

Amelia did her best to avoid the counter, though still felt the water land against the back of her head as she kept swimming. A soft smirk remained on her lips as she looked back at Valery with a look that could be best described as a mixture of a challenge and asking if her little threat was a promise. A soft sigh escaped her lips when she heard the beeping once more, her attention shifting back toward the droid that was now impatiently waiting for the two women to return to the shoreline.

"I fear you may be right. He doesn't like to be kept waiting... R2-RX is like a protocol droid in that respect."

She spoke softly, looking over her shoulder only briefly before looking back toward the little astromech. Slipping beneath the gentle waves of the simulated ocean, Amelia pulled herself through the water before slowly emerging in the gentle surf. As she pulled herself up, she took a moment to stretch, and slightly teasingly throw her head back, causing her hair to whip up in a long arc before it came to cascade down her back like a waterfall.

"Thank you R2-RX..."

Amelia said with a soft voice, kneeling as she took the towel from its grasper and lightly patted its dome before she looked back at Valery. With a smile on her lips, she began to carefully dry herself, running the towel over her figure as she slowly rolled her head and let out a soft sigh. She didn't want to go back to work, yet, she knew that it had to happen, making these little moments all the more cherished and important.

Valery chuckled softly as she watched Amelia dodge the splash and swim ahead. The playful energy between them still lingered as she followed, feeling a sense of joy she rarely got to indulge in. The Force might have always been present, guiding her through battle and diplomacy alike, but these moments — these brief pockets of serenity — were something else entirely.

As Amelia pulled herself from the water, Valery couldn't help but admire her grace, especially as she tossed her hair back in that slow, teasing arc. Valery raised an eyebrow with a smirk. Clever.

Following her lead, Valery reached the shore and shook some of the water from her limbs, her gaze briefly flicking to the impatient astromech. "Alright, alright, RX, we're coming," she chuckled as she accepted the towel he offered, taking her time to dry off as well.

"We really should do this more often," Valery added, her voice quiet but warm, as if sharing a secret between close friends. "Even if duty always calls, these moments matter too." She smiled as she turned her gaze back to Amelia, her eyes reflecting the same peace they'd shared just moments before. But as much as Valery cherished this time, she felt the subtle pull of responsibility edging closer again. They would soon have to return to the chaos of their lives, but for now, she wanted to hold onto this feeling for just a little while longer.

"Ready to head back?" she asked, though the wistful tone in her voice suggested that part of her would have loved to stay here forever.

Amelia leaned forward, her hair hanging down as she slowly wrapped the towel around her tresses and began to dry the water from them. Her hands shifted back and forth before she leaned up and flicked her hair back, the semi-wet strands clinging to her bodysuit and shoulders as she let out a silent sigh. Patting the towel against herself, she carefully dried the water from her form, her mind shifting between thoughts and desires as she turned toward the water once more.

Stealing the moment for another instant, wanting it to last as long as it could, she slipped down into the sand, her hand running through it slowly. She smirked slightly, nodding to herself as it seemed that the heaters were working properly, keeping the sand at a bearable though pleasant temperature as though it were a beach. Despite her otherwise usual dislike for them at times, she still could find the enjoyment that others felt when walking in the sand or swimming in the water, her eyes falling upon the surf as it slipped up onto the shore before pulling back out once again.

"I suppose we should, despite being ready or not."

Amelia said softly, her golden-yellow hues shifting from the simulated ocean to her companion, admiring the Jedi Master before she pulled herself up from the sand. Keeping the towel in hand, she continued to dry her form, brushing some of the sand away as well before hearing the soft annoyed beeping of the Astromech. Rolling her eyes slightly, she looked to the droid and nodded before stepping toward it, her hand lightly touching its dome to try and calm it from its frustrations.

"Yes, yes, R2-RX, we're going."

She said before passing the droid, dropping the towel in a small receptacle near the door. Looking back over her shoulder, her mind slipped through different ideas and dreams, the passages of time and desires before she pushed herself back to focus on the task at hand. Despite the calm tranquility, they wouldn't stay there forever even if they wanted... they each had something that would pull them back to the Alliance in time.

Valery watched as Amelia shifted, her expression mirroring the reluctance she herself felt. It was hard to leave behind moments like these — serene and simple — when their lives were often filled with chaos. Valery pulled the towel tighter around her shoulders and let her eyes drift to the water one last time, her fingers brushing through her still-damp hair.

"Yeah, ready or not," Valery echoed softly, a warm smile tugging at her lips. She stepped forward, her gaze lingering on Amelia for a moment longer, appreciating the calm before their inevitable return to duty.

As Amelia calmed the astromech with a touch, Valery chuckled and shook her head. "I think RX might be more eager to get back than either of us," she teased, grabbing her own towel and tossing it into the same receptacle. "But I guess we can't keep the galaxy waiting forever."

Valery adjusted her stance, brushing the sand from her legs and casting a wistful look around the simulated beach. "We'll have to do it again sometime. It was nice."

Her words were light, but her thoughts already began to drift toward what awaited them beyond the tranquility of the moment. "Alright," Valery said, her voice a touch firmer now. "Let's head back and see what the galaxy has in store for us." She glanced at Amelia, a soft glimmer of gratitude in her eyes.

"RX can be... pushy..."
Amelia looked to Valery before rolling her eyes slightly as she heard the insulted beeping coming from the Astromech. Kneeling, she placed her hand on the droid's dome, lightly patting the top of the droid before she stood once more.
"Sorry, punctual... RX can be punctual..."
She said before turning her attention to the console near the door, another soft sigh slipping from her lips as the little Astromech rolled off, pleased with itself. Slender fingers slipped over the console as she checked a few of the readings before pressing a series of buttons. The light in the room began to dim, slowly shifting the simulated ocean into a night cycle as the lights dimmed and the waters seemed to take on a soft glowing hue of the luminescent creatures that inhabited the tank.
Pivoting on her hind foot, she collected her armor and began to pull the pieces back on as they made their way back toward the bridge. Her ears perked up slightly as she heard a chime, the computer having completed its study of the scans and the data that it had collected. As she walked, she felt a nudge at her leg, pulling her attention down to the Astromech that was holding out a datapad for her to collect that already had the information stored.
"Thank you T1..."
Amelia said as she knelt and took the datapad from the Astromech, giving it a light pat on its dome to send it off to conclude its tasks.

Valery smiled softly at Amelia's interaction with the droid, her amusement showing in the slight twitch of her lips as RX beeped in its usual impatient way. "Punctual... that's one word for it," Valery chuckled, stepping beside Amelia as she finished checking the console and dimming the simulated beach. The room's transition to a glowing, tranquil night caught Valery's eye, and for a brief second, she allowed herself to bask in the serene beauty.

"It really is peaceful here," she murmured, watching the soft glow of the water before turning her gaze back to Amelia. "Thank you for this."

As Amelia began slipping back into her armor, Valery followed suit, retrieving her own gear as they made their way to the bridge. The hum of the ship, the low chime of the computer — all of it brought Valery's mind back to reality, to the duty that awaited them beyond these walls. Her focus shifted when she saw the Astromech deliver the datapad to Amelia. With a light nudge from the Force, Valery opened herself to the situation ahead.

"I guess our break's officially over," she said, her tone light but knowing the weight that came with what awaited them. Glancing at the datapad Amelia now held, Valery raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "What do we have?"

Amelia stood silent for a moment, her attention fully on the datapad in her hands as her fingers lightly tapped against the screen. Scrolling through the information, a soft sigh slipped from her lips as she flipped from one set of results to the next, though it didn't seem as if there was much catching her eyes. A few more taps on the screen brought her to a pause, her brow furrowing slightly as she chewed on her lip as though she were processing some unusual or unexpected information.

"That Canyon to the West looks like it houses a few thousand caverns, caves, and small depressions. A few of them show signs of previous inhabitation, though it looks like that was from a few thousand years prior."

She lightly tapped on the screen again, pulling up a scan of the area before she pressed a button on the side of the datapad. With a soft sigh, she curled the datapad into her side, holding it firmly in place with her forearm as she began to make her way toward the bridge. The door slipped open with a soft hiss as she stepped onto the bridge of the vessel, her attention falling upon a holographic projector as she set the datapad down and brought up the image of the scan.

The image flickered to life, revealing a three-dimensional projection of the scan of the Canyon, Amelia's attention falling upon it as she leaned forward. Reaching out, she lightly pointed to a couple of the caverns, one near the surface, and one further down along the wall of the canyon.

"It looks like these two might have crystals of some kind. The scans are unsure if they're common crystals, or if they're Kyber crystals."

Valery's gaze sharpened with interest as the holographic image of the canyon flickered to life before them, casting soft blue light across her face. She stepped closer to Amelia, her amber eyes narrowing as they followed the patterns of caverns and caves dotting the canyon walls. The prospect of Kyber crystals in a place like this… well, it wasn't something she took lightly.

"Crystals buried deep in caverns… it could be a significant find," Valery murmured, her tone thoughtful as she studied the two caverns Amelia pointed out. "Especially if these are Kyber crystals. Even after all these centuries, finding an untouched cache is rare." Her finger reached out to trace along the canyon wall on the hologram, imagining the potential hidden depths.

She glanced at Amelia, a slight smile tugging at her lips. "Exploring this place could be quite the adventure. But it also might mean we're not the only ones interested." Valery's mind was already mapping out potential dangers, the kind of caution that came naturally after years of navigating situations where precious resources attracted unwanted attention.

"Let's go explore the caves. Before we build anything here, we should make sure."
