Factions, and their Real Life Counterparts

One Sith, like all Sith, are based on the standard Fascist model of villain. Equating the One Sith to the Third Reich is not a stretch because that's what the movies were consciously comparing the Galactic Empire to.

The Republic...I'm thinking Rome in the middle of the 5th century. They had days of glory, but those are far behind them. Now they are being picked apart by their enemies and soon will vanish entirely.

Mandalorians have always been a Mongol/Hun reference, and I think that's a pretty comparison.

SSC I view as a Greek group like the Delian League where the individual states come together for mutual protection. Let's hope it doesn't go the same way as the real Delian League!

GA are very much a crusader state. Either Jerusalem or the Teutonic Order. They have an enemy, they have a semi-theocratic leadership and they're pretty damn zealous.

Are there any other Major Factions of note other than these?

Alright, lets do this.

The Republic: At its height you could have argued that it was the Roman Republic, But it struggles to leave a lasting impact on.. well anything. The Jedi seemed to mostly moved on to more relevant factions like the GA and SSC. At its height I would say it would be the Second French Republic, in it current state... Kingdom of Soissons, have fun holding out guys.

The One Sith: At its height I would say the Ottoman Empire, there a large faction the conquerors in the name of the Dark Lord (Sultan), and has no uniform Sith ideology. Right now your still the Ottoman Empire, just the one in the 1700s. In terms power projection they need need a win against the GA to be taken seriously. Beating up the pubs doesn't score you any points anymore. They also need to take back the Maguffin.

Galactic Alliance: A faction dedicated to taking the fight to the OS, they may seem like some kind of military order of medieval times. But the lack battles after narrow loss to the OS rules out that kind of comparison. Has an outstanding power projection situation with the OS, in all fairness I dub you guys the European Union. Now show that military can do something.

Mandos: Fill in your choice of native american tribe or Eurasian Khanate of choice here.

First Order: Italian Social Republic, score a big win and you'll get Third Reich.

SSC: Surprisingly versatile in the face of defeat, and remains solid on its map position after a push by the Primeval. I dub thee Crown of Castile (no Inquisition edition).

I agree with your observation on the OS's steamroll tactics in relation to the Huns. However, the Huns were really just a (rather powerful) rabble that was glued together by one man. Once he was gone, everything went to crap. The OS are more organized and sustainable, I'd compare them to the Mongols.

we're labeled like this cuz of you

[member="Lord Ajihad"] Preeeeetty much.

Before that, we were a Theocracy. I'm not a history buff, but I think before everything went to hell with Anja's death, the Primeval was something reminiscent to a Crusades Era Muslim nation.

Then there was a period of Civil War, where we became gradually more and more terrorist-y. Mostly the whole Death-Cult situation with the Court of Balagoth essentially laying waste to its own planets tipped that scale over the edge. It parallels nicely with how the most common victim of ISIS are other Muslims, and the most common victim of the Court of Balagoth were other believers of the Primeval Faith.

But we're beginning to get into hairy territory, so I'll shut up now and avoid that kind of flak :p

Indeed, much we have done correlates to modern terrorism (and its roots) in one way or another.

Not that I'm blaming you and saying we did a bad thing. Who doesn't enjoy being a crazed cultist that blows crap up?
