L Admin
We are currently on the 3rd major iteration of point move for the Factory. Factory 1.0 was the first iteration, Factory 2.0 is marked by the appearance of the Starship's Guide, and Factory 3.0 is marked by Tef's overhaul of the Factory and its' rules.
I like where Factory 3.0 sits. It's very clean. Its rules are mostly guided by the templates (all in one place). However, there is always room for improvement, and we will be doing so with a transition to Factory 3.1.0 while I stand in as Factory Admin. The moves I plan to make will also serve as placeholders and guidance for the Codex, depending on the level of acceptance and success with the community Factory 3.1 has.
I am focusing on 3 major areas: Vehicles, Backend, and Holonet.
Vehicles
I want to heavily expand the Vehicles Factory, with templates mirroring those of the Technology and Starship forum. I believe the Vehicles forum, though lagging in activity behind Tech and SS, has the highest chance to achieve success out of all previous Factory ideas.
Podracers
Tanks
Walkers
Landspeeders
Backend
This is the grandest of the 3, and will require the most work. Improvements will feature resources for the Factory Judges and tools for them to conduct business in the Factory. Also, how submissions are approved and moved to the Approval forum will also be looked at. Time and energy is the object here. How far we can minimize those digits is what I wish to explore.
Tags, Prefixes, etc. also fit in this category.
NEW PREFIXES
Approved > Open Market: "Approved" in the Approval forums is a bit of a waste of space. Its already a staple to list most items Open Market, as per the template... we're just going to change the Approved prefix to Open Market to let people know that specific item is for sell.
Salvaged: Items in the approved forums with this prefix have been salvaged for the creation of another item for their rare materials.
New Rules Regarding...
Salvaging:
Reverse-Engineering:
Tags Will Be Required
Tags will be required on all new submissions starting in 3.1. We encourage players to tag them as to the ownership of the item and/or the manufacturer of the item.
How Judges Approve Submissions
The Admin and Role-play Judges will be removed from the equation and the Factory will be autonomized. Submissions will still require secondary approvals, but a Factory Judge can suffice, and will be given the same Factory powers as an RPJ or Admin.
The Factory Administrator will be moved to a more passive role of managing and handling discipline. This decision is the same as the decision to allow RPJs to rule over role-play matters without Admin intervention (unless requested), and will increase the responsibility of the role of Factory Judge.
Holonet
Moving a lot of our resources to the Holonet (such as dev thread standardization, guides, etc) away from the Forums will help improve user engagement in the forums. One Pinned threads with a TOC directing player traffic is much more advisable than 5 pinned threads taking up valuable page space in the forums.
