Avery watched as the Spymaster, Nexus Krae, cut through the creatures with brutal efficiency, and a grace unmatched by any Avery had seen before. The Spymaster spun with violent twists and attacks only presented by dancers of a royal house. Nexus cut his way across the battlefield then ordered his soldiers, known as the Jkri, to follow Avery’s command, alongside his men. Nexus ran off to undisclosed location, to complete a mission that Avery had no doubt was vital to the success of the Corporate. After witnessing Nexus’ own rampant quest, Avery returned to his own.
“Sir,” said one of the soldiers “what would you have us do?” Avery motioned toward the governmental district and began running to it, his soldiers and Jkri following behind. As they went deeper into the city, the fighting became more apparent to Avery and his company. They reached the business district in the middle of the city, bombshells crashed to the ground and a couple of Avery’s soldiers were obliterated in the process. “Sir!” the captain of the squad shouted at Avery, “What his your order from here?” Avery thought for a moment, if they continued group up like this than they’d all perish before the battle had even begun. He had to make a choice, lose more soldiers, or keep them safe but adding more risk to himself. Finally, he made the order.
Avery pointed to the captain’s wrist communicator, then his own. Avery then loaded a data chip with Consul Zanareth’s contact, they were far enough into the city to be able to make contact with Zanareth but they’d have to stay put as to not disrupt the connection. “Sir, you want me to contact the Consul and tell her that we’re on our way?” Avery shook his head and pointed to himself in response, “You want me to contact the Consul and tell her you are on your way?” Avery shook his head up and down, “huh, very well Sir.” the captain tapped a few buttons on his communicator and shouted into it, “ This is Captain Tacer! Leader of the fourth arrival squad! High Commander Regailis is making his way to you, Madam Consul!” then awaited a response.
Avery beckoned two Jkri to follow him. Avery raced across the war torn city, making his way to the last known location of corporate activity. A vong rushed him with a spear, Avery dodged then plunged his left blade into the back of the savage humanoid. Two more came at him, this time wielding swords. The first slashed, horizontally, at Avery but he flip over the vong, landing behind it then tearing both blades through it’s waist. It topabled to the floor. The second plunged his sword forward at Avery, he moved his body out of the way, then stabbed the vong in its forehead, blood leaking from the wound. After the little skirmish, Avery continued forward with the two Jkri, both of which were very tired at this point. Avery didn’t blame them, he was too.
They were nearing their destination, not much longer till they arrived. The Jkri followed close behind Avery, Vigilant as ever. Then suddenly the ground began to shake, a Gareth hand emerged from it, grabbing one of the Jkri and pulling him into the depths. The second Jkri, with his spear started stabbing the ground. Avery grabbed his shoulder, there was nothing they could for him now, He was left to the mercy of the world. They moved onward, getting ever closer to their goal, they’d make it, Avery hoped.
Avery stopped in his tracks, completely still. A dagger shot through the back of the second Jkri’s head, killing him instantly. Avery turned around… what stood his gaze was a man wearing a black robe with underlying armor, wielding an ancient sword, and a mask with eldritch symbols that Avery couldn’t make sense of… Avery was wrong, it wasn’t a fake cult… but they’d die all the same. Avery raised his arm blades and prepared for an attack...
