First Annual Chiss Ascendancy Masquerade Ball (PM invite)

Malicar did not miss the bit of interplay off to the side. But suspecting the players involved, it would not have to do with his house, so his concern was down to nothing. It did not surprise the intelligence operative that there would be a bit of clandestine shenanigans. He wasn’t entirely certain that was what was afoot, but the possibility was very real. As long as House Vesnam’s role in this night’s affairs was not derailed, then he would not need to step in. This appealed to Malicar greatly, simply to position his house and enjoy the night…

Speaking of enjoying the night…

The music began as the woman took his hand. Dipping his head and allowing her to step onto the floor in front of him, the pair settled into a pose ready to begin. Taking the lead, Malicar set off in basic form to gauge the ability of his partner and whether he would have to guide all of their movements. But when it was clear the chiss female in front of him clearly knew her place on the dance floor, it brought a grin to the crime lord’s face.

As an intelligence operative and a figure from the criminal underworld, Malicar had been to dozens of affairs just such as this, most of them were not held in the Chiss Ascendancy. He was a figure that depended on speed and precision in his line of work. That grace trained and honed to a razor’s edge served him well in the most interesting of places…the dance floor was one of them.

The pair swirled and turned, beginning to anticipate the other’s movements. Once in the throes of the dance, he responded to her words.

“No truer words, my most adept partner. As longer as our respective houses are not put in a compromising position tonight, then perhaps do we dare to enjoy the evening?”

It was then that she asked where he was from. Usually, his response to such a question elicited very different responses. Part of the amusement in this revelation was to judge the response. In truth, some houses reacted favorably—those that knew them best. But most of the others would try not to respond with a look of distrust, and even disgust.

“Indeed you may ask without hesitation. I make my home on Kinoss.”

Another spin of the tall chiss female followed by another shift in movement putting their heads close together, “And where you call home, if I may ask in kind?”

Beth chuckled as she finally composed herself. He was an excellent dancer, definitely more so than she had expected. Definitely better than her, but her strong points were in other areas. On that same note, she felt confident that she did fairly well. No stepped-on toes was a plus for Beth. Of course, she was mostly joking. As much as she’d like to give up all the responsibilities she had, she had duties to attend to – not only in the Clans, but in the Republic.

She looked towards his red eyes as he took her hand. Their eyes never once broke as he gave her hand a gentle kiss. The butterflies and nerves came back in a rush as her green orbs stayed locked on his. Her cheeks flushed yet again as they turned a shade of pink, her ears perked fully.

A slight nervous giggle but with a genuine and warm smile slid onto her soft lips. “Likewise, [member="Cleru"]. I think I’d like that.

For a moment Cleru thought he had once again flustered [member="Beth Cadera"] as her cheeks darkened. Perhaps he was too forward? The last time she had turned to drink. Heavily. But as she smiled and replied clearly compared to the last time he smiled warmly in return. He gave her hand a gentle squeeze, not letting it go this time as turned to lead her from the dance floor. "Well, no time like the present. Let me get you another drink."

Cleru handled her nerves fairly well, by mostly ignoring them. Sure, the first time was tremendously awkward as she panicked slightly. And gulped a glass of wine completely down, as fast as possible. Really, it wasn’t like her to get all… Nervously and butterflies in the stomach and all that crazy stuff.

But man, when the connection was there, it was there. And she became a nervous, fumbling mess. Bah, at least it wasn’t as bad the last time. She giggled, with a quick nod. True, who knew when they would have time to see each other again. Or if they even would be able too. They did live a galaxy apart, and… Well, if it was meant to be it’d work out.

He didn’t let go of her hand and so her blush never faded. Once back at the bar, she would probably order the same thing she had before. It was a good choice, really. [member="Aditya Fitz Kierke"] might have been dead for a while, but at least she knew her wines. She gave [member="Cleru"] a smile, “So…” The hard part, learning stuff about each other. “So, what do you do when you’re not on a mission?

"Workout, mostly." Cleru ordered himself another glass of the bubbly, mostly because the kind he ordered was nonalcoholic. He needed to be able to keep his wits about him ever since the Force was stripped from him by the Vong so long ago. Still with her hand in his he lead her to one of the tables where he'd pull out a chair as he had been drilled on doing. To be a gentleman was a never ending task that he took with pride.

"But, when that's done, I bake. Breads usually, but sometimes I branch out to pastries.Training was pretty strict, so if i wanted anything sweet I had to make it myself." The Chiss chuckled. "When I first started I had no appreciation for the measurements needed. Ended up putting far too much flower into a batch of cookies. They ended up keeping the shape of the scoop." He shook his head slowly as he took a sip from his glass.

"What of you? What does a doctor do on their free time?"

Beth gave a nod as he mentioned working out. Ah, the past time they all do to an extent. Training, physical training, was a never ending ordeal. She took her seat with a small thanks as she crossed her legs and leaned against the table. [member="Cleru"] was a great-looking Chiss, in truth. At least, from what she could tell from his mask.

She gave a small smile at the mention that he bakes, then a small giggle at the mention of his lesson for learning to use measurements. “You’ll have to bake for me, sometime. I love a good treat.” It was a known that Beth frequently brought sweets with her on missions. Cookies, candy, you name it. Absolutely delicious, truly. Even her buir had stashed a treat in her beskar during a previous mission. Granted, that was a… Rough mission.

What did she do? Oh, man. “Ha, studying to be a doctor and practicing almost entails no free time,” she joked with a small laugh. “Um, physical training, Force training. I sing at a nightclub every now and then.” She was told she had a beautiful voice, although she wasn’t so sure herself. She gave a little shrug, “Nothing as tasty as baking, though.

Cleru gave a kind smile to [member="Beth Cadera"] as she spoke. Yeah, it made sense. Becoming a doctor was a full time job long before actually being one, though he raised a brow at the mention of a nightclub. So the woman could sing? He leaned forward some, his smiling widening out of curiosity. "Oh? See, now you have to take me to this club. I'd love a chance to hear that." He sent down his drink, never once breaking eye contact. "Perhaps after I bake you something? We can make a day of it."

And more if he had the chance.

Beth continued to give the Chiss a smile. She couldn’t quite get the smile off her lips. Man, she hoped her cheeks wouldn’t hurt by the end of the night with all this smiling going on. But she loved it, in truth. It had been a while since someone made her genuinely smile as much as [member="Cleru"] did.

He did seem particularly interested in her singing career. She gave him a shy grin. “I mean… Everyone who goes there seems to love it, I dunno if I’m that good. Might make your ears bleed. I used to have a whole suite for music production, on Westralis in the Eshan sector, which is…” she stopped her explanation. The obvious was there, of course. The Confederate blockade of the sector ended any hope of being able to visit again, at least for now.

She perked a brow as their eyes continued to stay locked. It was… Intense, as she looked into his red orbs. “Oh! That sounds like a pretty good deal, actually. I'd die for some good, well baked goodies. Have you ever been to Mandalore?” She said as she sipped her glass of wine, her eyes briefly looking away solely to receive relief from the butterflies that fluttered inside her.

“Your Uncle. My father. Is dead.” The words flowed from his mouth with such suspense he himself was almost caught by it. Kept obviously quiet to avoid rousing to much attention to the murder of a House Representative within an otherwise peaceful and diplomatic setting. “As we escorted him their was an assassin, far distance shot. We are still unclear if he was the intended target.”

Red eyes scanned his opposite, trying to catch some form of emotion or give of character. However his cousin had always been his weakness when it came to reading others, where most Chiss and chiss-like humanoids were frighteningly easy to watch and observe Mitth’orn’eruod was another being entirely.

Several movements around the room had seen his marines spread out to tell other relative members of the Defence Hierarchy who were still in amongst the party-floor. It would probably hasten the events of the evening, or delay them. It didn’t matter to Mitth’uria’nuruodo, as long as they still moved forward.

“We’ve put the exterior on lock-down but the Hierarchy will not cancel the ceremony, not now that we have come so far since the Jen’ari occupation.” He muttered. “I…I wanted to speak to you, rather then hearing it from the eventual rumours. After-all we are now both the closest family we each have.” Said to strike a nerve? Or perhaps it was honesty amongst the words. “I also have this.”

He removed the data-chip from his pocket and placed it in his Cousin’s hand. “My father stated it contained information about several dealings made against my family, your family and others. There is also apparent mention of the Copero disaster, names and families that willingly let the confederacy into the system.” He released the chip. “As a ranking officer I am giving it to you to do with what you see fit. I have other matters to attend.” He looked around the room. “I just hope I have your support in the times to come.”

"Kinoss, hmm? I have not had the opportunity as of yet to travel that far west of our core territory. I shall look forward to doing so in the future as the Ascendancy encompasses the whole of Chiss space once again," Ari answered [member="Malicar"] with a nodding smile as the two glided effortlessly around the dance floor.

"If one were to consider the color of my dress, you may conclude to which homeworld is mine on the Path of Houses," she offered with the smallest of sly grins, not giving the male Chiss full disclosure but enough to make an educated guess perhaps.

There was something truly enjoyable when dancing like they were; the musical compliment, the intricate dance steps, the adrenaline flowing freely, bodies moving as one. It was a sweet rush that filled the Sabosen's spirit. Her dance partner was definitely making it hard not to just let herself fully take pleasure in that euphoria... but restraint and wishful thoughts of another brought Brask'ari'sabosen back from the edge and to reality.

There was a purpose for the ball beyond just the socializing and celebrating. The Defense Hierarchy was to announce the major Ruling Houses who would be in charge of the Ascendancy's interests going forward.

As the orchastra's current musical score came to an end, High Admiral Wasd'ordone'vlesoc, High General Merda'wath'iasu, and Intelligence Director Sorn'ecera'oumuo could be seen moving with an armored escort towards a platform with a podium that was set up for this particular event of the evening.

"Thank you kindly for the dance, good sir. It is to my joyous surprise you do not suffer from two left feet."

Brask'ari'sabosen inclined her dark head graciously while dropping a small curtsey, then she turned on her heel and strolled across the dance floor to where her father and their ruling family aristocra were standing in anticipation as to what was to come next....

The all-important naming ceremony would give strength to the new foundation in which the Chiss Ascendancy would be built upon for the next generations to come.

He arrived like a theif in the night.

Death adorned from head to toe in solid golden aurodium, Mythos had arrived. Last time there had been an extravagant ammount of Ysalamiri present, a force nulification field the size of which only a thousand void stones could create. Flanked by two Anubian Death Bringers Mythos stood before the guards and let his presence alone sink into their hearts. Here the Chiss, the souless, emotionless blue skinned people did not reflect the emotions in their hearts, but attuned to the dark side of the force he knew fear when it presented itself.

"Presenting The Sith Magnus, Champion of the Sith Empire. Loyal Servant of Emperor [member="Darth Carnifex"]. Lord Mythos." Spoke a Death Bringer in the Chiss tounge with a heavy accent for all to hear at the end of the music.

He was nothing if not extravagant, colorful and overly patriotic. The two Anubians stood guard beside the Chiss weilding two spears that flew the One Sith flag and the other the flag of The Sith Empire of today. A contrast to past, present and future, a symbolic gesture as Mythos wore the insignia of House Chaf of Csilla emblazoned on his golden armor as well. On his back the iconic Axe of Adas which was left to the guards who were themselves guarded by Anubians and a lorg red and gold tattered cape. A cape with history, it being the flag that flew over Chazwa the day Martha, his captain died.

He strode into the masses aiming to waltz through it and observe. His eyes scanned... they always looked for her.

What're you gonna do? Kill me?
Conversation moved, and I barely realize. [member="Adenn Kyramud"] talks about his armour as if it were some form of honoured elder walking beside him, or the blessing of some form of deity I don't recognize. It's just armour, but he protects it with the same vehemence in which he protects his face.

"I'm here to support our new Chiss friends, and enjoy the delights of the Galaxy's most refined culture once again." That was the official reason. My secondary reason? Watch [member="Beth Cadera"] like a hawk. The girl was knee deep in it, whatever 'it' happened to be. Most likely that Chiss named @Cleru. Oh, and to see if there's any old business assets which survived the recent wars on Ascendancy world's.

"You doubt my ability to find a way past the sensibility of an up discoverable visage? Surely you jest, Alor Kyramud." I sip my whiskey, and noticing it is in need of a refill, saunter back to the bar in time for the hullabaloo of a child's screaming bloody murder. "Somebody want to get that kid's adult?"

Never mind, Adenn's got it covered.

"Hey, protector. Sip, sip." I almost drop the glass for Adenn, when the commotion breaks out. Having spent twenty years in the Netherworld will do that to a person. "Adenn? We should... Is it safe?"

As Adenn stood there, he idly watched the coming and going of the crowd, somewhat listening to the conversation happening before him. He nodded his head to what [member="Sentiri"] said though, their two people could learn much from one another. Adenn then turned his attention back to [member="Latos"] and listed as he spoke. Then suddenly he screamed; whatever the reason, it involved @Jac’leru’rizzem and got the guards antsy.

When the child screamed, Adenn didn’t so much as flinch, he merely calmly observed the boy, wondering what he’d do next. The child took a step forward and started speaking about his paths or connections. The whole thing left Adenn confused, but also worried, the boy was well within the crystals range, and… yep, now he’s affected by it. Suddenly the force is gone for the kid, and it leaves Adenn shaking his head.
Adiik means child in Mando’a, and that is what you are, an adiik.” As the kid said the force was gone, Adenn can’t help but feel a twange of worry. If they found out it was because of him, no, he wouldn’t think like that. Instead, he patted the childs head. “Welcome to the galaxy adiik, not everyone has the Force, in fact most don’t.” Adenn knelt then in front of the Chiss child, temporarily ignoring what was going on, he placed a hand on the kids shoulder. “Remember that when you do, whatever it is you do. Your actions affect more people, simply for what you have and the mentality people have to force users. But also remember this, the quiet, and cherish it. Life doesn’t require the Force, remember that, don't let it be the only reason you live. Grow, learn, and experience the galaxy.

Adenn looked up then and observed [member="Beth Cadera"], she had obviously been spooked by the scream. He nodded his head to her then, hoping to help calm her. Then they walked off, [member="Cleru"] and Beth, off to dance. Adenn stood up then, keeping a hand on the childs shoulder, to reassure him that everything was ok. From what he’d seen, the Chiss used the child more than they helped him. Looking around then, Adenn noted the commotion happening between some more Chiss.

However, be anything could be done about that, another Chiss came up to them. This one was an Admiral if his garb was anything to go by, and his mannerism(@Thorne), and what he said. So, they wanted to take the child away. Adenn would let them, if the child wanted to go. But if the kid wanted to stay, he wouldn’t force him to go.
Very well then Admiral.” He nodded his head, but didn’t move much aside from that, instead staying where he was. Opting to see what the child would do in the face of this.

And then, the Admiral is off, to do something else, and speak with others. Adenn noted how they spoke, and how some new guards came around checking the place over. In fact, one of them approached him, no doubt spotting his armor and assuming, correctly at that, that Adenn was a guard. Exchanging a few hushed words, Adenn discovered someone had been shot. A prominent house leader in fact; that left Adenn wary. If someone had tried to assassinate one group, who was to say they wouldn’t try someone else.

Looking over the ground once more, Adenn took everything in this time, noting people, weapons, personnel, guards, etc. If anyone tried to attack the Mando’a here, they’d become nothing more than a splatter at the end of the ball. However, that didn’t prevent Adenn from stepping closer to Aditya, partially to shield her with his body, at least from one angle. He glanced around, searching for Beth, and in the process saw @Mythos.

The pompous fool waltzed in like he owned the place, a fact that didn’t sit well with Adenn. And the fact that the di’kut had a One Sith flag with him, and some guards, made Adenn question his motives. He also noted the angry looks sent the Siths way, and the way they pointedly glared at the One Sith flag and then the man himself. Sneering to himself, Adenn decided to keep an eye on him as well, not bothering to hide his contempt for the man. No doubt it radiated off of him in waves.

Turning his head back to Beth, he tried to catch her attention. If he got it, he’d motion for her to come closer to him, so that he could protect her as well. Then he turned his head to Aditya and listened as she spoke of seeing his visage. When she nearly dropped her glass, Adenn took another step closer to her.
It’s ok Aditya.” He looked around again, scanning the crowd once more. “Stick with me, and you’ll be perfectly fine no matter what happens. If someone wanted to do something, they’d have to get through me first.” Adenn patted her shoulder then, to try and comfort her. Then he cracked his knuckles in front of himself, smirking in joy when the guard nearest him flinched back from him. “And that’s not going to happen anytime soon.

Smiling, laughing. Cleru and [member="Beth Cadera"] seemed to be having quite the amazing time together. It was randomly that the pair had disappeared. When [member="Adenn Kyramud"] went looking he'd find their table empty. Cleru had taken the young woman to the nearby balcony, slipping out while no one was looking to share in the beauty of the night sky of Csilla, where city and star lights melded together and made it almost impossible to tell where one began and the other ended.

The promise of seeing one another again, a shared kiss.

The pair eventually snuck their way back into the ball hand in hand, Cleru smiling warmly to the Mandalorian. They were due for another dance after all.

House Palace; Csilla.
Mitth'orn'eruod was not surprised. Mitth'uria'nuruodo spoke as though he was emotionally afflicted, but both knew the truth of it. And while the Admiral had his suspicions, the fact was there was likely no evidence to gather, given how careful his cousin was... or perhaps not as careful as he could have been? Still, the loss of an uncle - and Aristocra of a House - was a tragedy and would be mourned in a way appropriate to Mitth'orn'eruod; namely, at another time, in private, in a controlled manner.

"My condolences," Mitth'orn'eruod said curtly, his chin raising as he observed his cousin. "I hope the perpetrator is discovered. Certainly your ability to determine in that split second that your father was shot from a long range will be helpful to authorities. Your faculties to surmise as such in a single shocking and unexpected moment are admirable, cousin..."

The member of House Mitth paused, letting his cousin know he knew.

"Still, your father will be missed. He was a wise leader."

Then Mitth'orn'eruod reached out and took the datachip on offer, listening to the explanation and update concerning the information it contained and the perimeter of the Palace. Thankfully, despite the situation, the guards were able to largely contain the situation and maintain a sense of underlying calm. The evening was far too important to put aside, the Government had to be fully functional as soon as possible, in order for the Ascendancy to continue positive growth. The Jen'ari were gone, their remaining native forces either removed or allowed opportunity to return to their Chiss ways, but that didn't mean the danger had passed...

"Very well, Mitth'uria'nuruodo, I will take care of the particulars," Mitth'orn'eruod said in reply to the intel. No doubt it would show some interesting results, though whether they could be fully trusted remained to be seen. "And I suspect the Defense Hierarchy will be making announcements shortly. You had best put on your best face, cousin, it would not do to start proceedings from a position of emotional weakness."

There was a nearby group that moved toward one end of the hall, the three individuals within the tight formation of guards easily identifiable. The Defense Hierarchy were approaching the raised platform for announcements. Placing the datachip into his uniform pocket, Mitth'orn'eruod put the thoughts about it from his mind, instead turning his attention to the ceremony about to take place...
X5BpgBb.png
The Defense Hierarchy.

The commotion outside the hall had been concerning, almost prompting the leaders of the military to postpone proceedings. However, after some discussion, and a more subtle internal lock-down activation, the Defense Hierarchy had decided to continue with the appointment of the Ruling Houses. The parliament body had voted in the weeks following the expulsion of Jen'ari occupation, taking into consideration what the now exiled Houses had done, and finding a viable solution whom to trust.

The answer was simple: Return to Ruling Houses prior, to those that were from a point in Chiss society that promoted positive, proactive change in a continually altering galaxy.

High Admiral Wasd'odone'vlesoc walked up onto the platform, standing front and center. High General Merda'wath'iasu and Intelligence Director Sorn'ecera'oumuo flanked him, while the guards provided a protective position from those who might attempt to storm the stage. There was a hush across the crowd, even the arrival of the Sith delegate - and his One Sith flag that was cause for numerous Chiss contention - was short-lived in this instance.

This was a moment of note, a moment for Chiss history. The appointment of Ruling Houses had only ever happened a half dozen times in the Ascendancy's long existence.

And now it was happening tonight.

"My fellow Chiss, esteemed guests and trusted friends," Wasd'odone'vlesoc began, nodding his head, as he placed both hands behind his back comfortably. "Today is a momentous occasion for the Ascendancy. Today we celebrate our freedom from Jen'ari occupation, our removal of a corrupt ruling body, and the appointment of a new body of Ruling Houses. It has been no secret that the old Ruling Houses, now exiled, were operating under pretenses against the Chiss people as a whole. They used power for personal gain. They traded lives for wealth. They submitted their people to another Empire intent on using our resources, people and technology for their own benefits... all of which are against, and in direct violation, of the Ruling House position."

High General Merda'wath'iasu stepped forward, as she raised a hand.

"It is important not to focus on what has been done, as justice has been served to those Houses now in exile," Merda'wath'iasu said, her voice soft but filled with underlying authority. "Instead, let's put our attention to the votes provided by our Colonial parliament who have made considerable strides to ensure a better future for our people, by overcoming criminality and abuse of power. Each of the representatives has cast a vote, much deliberation has taken place, and a final verdict has been reached."

The final member of the Defense Hierarchy, Intelligence Director Sorn'ecera'oumuo, stepped forward and spoke in his deep voice.

"I would also like to confirm that the Ascendancy Cabinet, tasked with approval of important tasks alongside the Aristocra, have been likewise removed on an individual level, to assure any corrupting elements have been removed. As such, the Defense Hierarchy, of which we have no House alignment as the three leaders of the military branches, have stepped in to provide the necessary approving votes in an unbiased manner..."

Wasd'odone'vlesoc cleared his throat, stepping forward with a small datapad opened in his hand.

"It is with great honor, high hopes for the future, and the best intentions for the Chiss people that we recognize the following Houses as the newly appointed Ruling Houses:

House Csapla, from Cioral, shall observe responsibilities for resource management and colonial affairs. House Nuruodo, from Naporar, shall observe responsibilities for military and foreign policy. House Inrokini, from Csaus, shall observe responsibilities for industry, non-military science and communications. House Sabosen, from Sposia, shall observe responsibilities for law and order, health and education. And last but not least, House Lore, from Csilla, shall observe responsibilities for civilian and military arms manufacturing and distribution."

There was a clapping from the crowd, some cheers, as the amassed Chiss heard the declarations.

"The appointment for Ruling Houses shall presently remain at five. This was agreed on as a reasonable number to truly refocus efforts and turn the Ascendancy around from the effects of the Jen'ari, without over complicating proceedings with more House positions. In the near future, we will see more Ruling Houses brought to the fore, but for now the main obligation is to return to a steady and unified state within our culture... so we would like to thank you for trust in the Defense Hierarchy, and in your parliament, and gladly relinquish our emergency governing powers following final details and agreements this evening."

High General Merda'wath'iasu offered a smile, as she opened her hands.

"Here is to continued success for the Chiss. Please enjoy the remainder of the festivities."

X5BpgBb.png
Mitth'orn'eruod remained silent, his crimson eyes staring at the three individuals on the stage.

So it goes, The Admiral thought, his gloved hands clenched tightly at the small of his back, as his jaw muscles worked. House Mitth will continue to climb the social ladder, not quite reaching the top again thus far...

The decision by the parliament made logical sense. There was no point in amassing a large number of Ruling Houses to complicate the decision-making processes that needed to be reworked and realigned. Still, Mitth'orn'eruod could not deny there was a pang of resentment that he felt deep inside, as his House was once again passed over, despite continued efforts and contributions to the Ascendancy to undo past stains to its reputation.

Even after all this time, Mitth'raw'nuruodo still leaves his mark on House Mitth... one day it will be undone.

House Palace ~ Masquerade Ball
[member="Thorne"] | any
Brask'ari'sabosen stood proudly with her family in a sea of various shades of rust red as the names of the new major Ruling Houses were announced by the three-member Defense Hierarchy. There were to be five governing Houses now... The four perennial Chiss families - Csapla, Inrokini, Nuruodo, and Sabosen along with the up and coming House Lore.

The Mitth family had been overlooked despite all the contributions Mitth'orn'eruod had given to the rebirth of the Chiss Ascendancy as it was today. Someday, hopefully sooner than later, the young Admiral would see his House among the Ruling ones. She had faith it would be so, but more so in him to lead his family to honor and glory once again.

The Chiss doctor accompanied her father and Sev'ero'sabosen as they made the rounds to the other families. Congratulations were offered to the Aristocras of the newly appointed Ruling Houses that were in the vicinity of where they were standing, then Brask'ari'sabosen was left to partake in the rest of the evening's festivities as the Aristocra and Syndic Mitth'oru'sabosen slipped out to a meeting to finalize things with the Defense Hierarchy.

Brask'ari'sabosen stood off to the side of the dance floor and sipped on a glass of champagne while the orchestra began to play once again. She felt contentment in just listening to the beautiful arrangement with the earlier stress of the impending announcement now lifted. It meant the Ascendancy and its People could finally move forward. Life and duty would definitely have purpose once again. The Red Flame was relit in the hearts and minds of the Chiss as it should be. It certainly was in hers.

The scion of House Vhirr had studied the grim features of her grandfather and patriarch, Vhirr’oban’anch, as the identities of the new ruling houses of the Ascendancy were announced to the assembled great and good. She had forever marvelled at the old man’s stone visage, impassive even now as House Vhirr was once more overlooked.

Duty did not require plaudits, he would say, In service to the people, we find all of the affirmation we might need.

Each of the appointments made sense, each of the families would stand or fall by their merits - House Vhirr’s primary goal following the liberation of Csilla had been achieved, nonetheless; The corruption at the heart of the Ascendancy had been excised. Old Robana had lobbied ceaselessly, but even now he showed no pleasure nor pride in his victory. Duty, Service, Citizenship.

He’s a lesson to us all.

A smile drifted across Bella’s lips as she let out a held breath, looking from her grandfather once more and then to the crowds still celebrating the announcement. Tonight was a celebration for all good Chiss and House Vhirr would celebrate.

Svelte and statuesque in her pale blue gown, the Commodore cut a striking figure as she passed through the crowds to seek out the newest Aristocra, intent on passing on her House’s congratulations. It was only right and proper.

As she made her way, Bella again took note of the increased number of non-Chiss in attendance at these gatherings, pale-skinned humans, armoured Mandalorians and even more exotic oddities roamed the ballroom. Vhirr’bel’laminis’ masked gaze drifted across those new faces, lips pursing as she considered the new path the changing galaxy was forcing her people to take.

"There is a wealth of knowledge an operative must have," Sentiri replied as they moved about one another. "Especially if they are to be able to effectively operate under cover." A coy smile crossed her face. Prusde'zoti'lore was ever-so-slightly taller than Sentiri, causing her to look up into her partner's eyes. They moved together with excellent rhythm and synchronicity, and though she was shorter, Prusde'zoti'lore followed Sentiri's lead without a hitch.
