Private For A Piece of Chocolate

“And will that be to go?”

Myvette nodded opulently as she took the box of food and dashed out of the diner her breath freezing in Alderaan’s chilling air. Even though she had started her morning journey to meet her master very early, Myvette still found herself racing to meet him as she realized how late she was. The stop for breakfast should have been quick and timely but the cook was held up and Myvette admittedly took a bit too long admiring the Blue Milk Pancakes with bits of chocolate mixed in.

Not to mention she ordered a second plate afterward.

I wonder if he plans to lecture me? I’d hope not, because I know this will happen again.

Sitting down on the only bench around not covered in frost Myvette smiled as she cracked open the steaming box of Pancakes her hand shaking as she fought against her gluttonous urges. Pushing the box away she tried to focus on something else besides her phantom hunger. She’d be training with him solo today but what would that entail? He probably wanted to know a bit more about her or was trying to get her to open up. She didn’t fault him but Myvette didn’t believe in the man’s ability. So many had tried and failed before that it didn't seem possible to the girl that this man could just swoop in and change her opinion about herself.

Maybe it’s just me being gloomy again but…I just don’t see myself anywhere else but here.

Only three more days before Jax had to go to Tython. Again, he had to wonder what the Silvers were thinking placing him with another Padawan when it was unlikely that he would return. Sure, Jax left his fate in the Force's hands but in somebody like Myvette's case, she probably needed a Master who doesn't throw themselves into danger as often as Jax did. That devil may care attitude doesn't have a long shelf life after all especially when the everything will be decided at Tython.

Still, Myvette seemed to be like Anneliese Kaohal Anneliese Kaohal : Eager to learn but unlike Anneliese she was shy mainly because she had a hard time communicating? Well Jax had a remedy for that. A way for Myvette to talk using the Force, on the small chance that Jax comes back Myvette to learn how to utilize her telepathy. The Jedi Master found her gorging on Pancakes, a smile formed on his face. Jax hadn't eaten breakfast this morning maybe a good Waffle would be nice.

"Good morning Myvette," Jax said beaming down at her. "Lemme get some Waffles and Eggs? Do you want a Coffee as well? I can you some my treat?"

Her efforts were in vain, Myvette had given into lust and gorged on the pancakes like a ravenous wolf having caught prey after a week without food. She had meant to take only a nibble to stave off her desire but she quickly found there was nothing left to munch on but a few scraps of chocolate, which she still ate in their broken state of course. At least no one was around to see-

“Good morning Myvette.”

Shoot.

Beyond that, his thoughts were coated with doom and they still lingered around Tython and the battle he was to join. He didn’t expect to survive and that takes a toll on people, pushing yourself into hell is a daunting thing and he was hiding it well. Not from her though.

I wonder if there is something I can do to help him…

Shaking her head, Myvette declined the offer of eggs and coffee. She’d already had her fill for the moment and there was still no telling what Jax had in store for her, after all, if she ate too much Myvette might get lethargic. Standing up Myvette brushed the crumbs off her jacket and straightened her mask. She was more than ready to begin but if Jax still wanted to get breakfast she wouldn’t mind.

Now that I think about it I was late and he’s just getting here. He’s not going to be late all the time, is he? No, I’m just being silly. Besides, it's not like I'm the most punctual person of all time.

Jax could sense that Myvette was feeling for gorging herself, he knew that some Jedi were strict about their Padawan's diets. In fact, Jax remembered some Jedi Master forcing their Padawans to start counting their calories by keeping a journal of everything they eat. However, the Jedi Master didn't mind too much in what his Padawans consume. Jax trusted his Padawan's best judgements though he will interfere if it got in the way of their training. "Looks like you love your Pancakes and chocolate," Jax chuckled slapping down a credit chit and requesting some Waffles and Orange Juice.

"You seem unsettled my young Padawan," Jax said staring at the girl. "Sit down and relax, deep breaths if you give into your anxiety you'll blind yourself from any potential threats."

Jax sat down in front of Myvette. "Breathe," Jax said. "And allow the Force to calm you. Listen to the people talking, the wind blowing, the birds chirping. Feel the rhythm of the Force."

A basic Force connection exercise but many Padawans struggle through this. Jax knew Anneliese Kaohal Anneliese Kaohal had trouble concentrating on her first few tries and she's still struggling today. He didn't expect Myvette to be an expert on her first go.

The sweet aroma of syrup, filled Myvette’s nose as she stepped into the diner with her master and was smacked in the face by the change in temperature. The sweet taste of chocolate had become bitter in her mouth as the tang faded and the snack formed a pit in her stomach. While he ordered his food Jax began to lecture Myvette on her anxiety which while true wasn’t a crime he was innocent of either. Even still, she listened and tried her best to learn, and then he brought up the idea of danger and her inability to sense it while distressed.

He was right, losing awareness in a fight even for a moment can and unfortunately often is a fatal error. You can’t expect to win or even survive every battle and it seems her master had fully committed to that motto when it came to Tython. Then he asked her to breathe in and out, to focus on the world around her it’s minute details that often go unnoticed and overlooked.

The Chef cracks three eggs with one hand and the yolks crawl from the broken shell and slide onto the skillet. The heat causes bubbles to rise on their surface as the eggs sizzle.

A cool breeze from the mountains washes over the city, it moves around things as opposed to through them and the speed of its movement causes the world to shift as though taken back by the wind's approach. Clumps of snow drop from the leaves of trees and onto the dew-covered grass, the ice melting from the greenery as the sun continues to rise over the horizon its golden light now yellow as its light shines true.

Go deeper. Focus more on that blade.

Sticking from the dirt the blade of grass barely stuck above the fluffy snow which to the plant appeared more like groups of crystals congealed into one mass. There were six water droplets on the blade and soon there were only five as one ran down the grass and merged with the ice crystals. Suddenly, the world was plunged into the darkness and the sun turned red for only the briefest of moments as its light faded from the world with winds ghastly and powerful like no other washing over the area.

And then there was nothing, a world of nothing for a split second before light returned to the universe and life had meaning again.

Is that truly what happens every time a blade of grass is stepped on? Their world simply fades away? Just how many blades of grass has she terrorized in her life…

She’d lost her focus and now the world was nothing but chaos, nothing but blaring noise without a direction. In opening herself up to the world Myvette ran the risk of being consumed by it. She cut the connection and found her breathing to be chaotic and labored while sweat dripped down her face.

The girl lowered her head in defeat. Even a simple exercise like this was proving too much for her, but why? She wasn’t exceptional before but never has the young Jedi been this abysmal with simply channeling the Force.

T-This doesn’t mean anything! I’m just off my game is all…

Breathing in the warm air around her, Myvette slipped back into a meditative trance.

The Waffles and Orange Juice at this point is irrelevant.

What mattered to Jax now was testing Myvette's connection to the Force. A Jedi needed to let their fears, doubts, everything go in order to allow the Force to come into them. It was something Jax hadn't fully mastered but in order for a Jedi to realize their potential, then they must allow the Force to flow through them like a gentle stream. The Jedi Master sat there grim faced observing Myvette concentrating, taking in the world around her. The Force was strong in her, it wanted to enter Myvette's spirit to enrich her with knowledge.

He could feel Myvette experiencing tranquility, the balance of the Force feeding into her. A smile formed on Jax's face impressed that she managed to get this far. Yet it's one thing to open the gates to Force, it was another to maintain it. Yet again, Jax could feel chaos and turmoil disrupting her thoughts. The Dark Side started to creep into her heart, yet Myvette managed to break away before Jax do anything. The Jedi Master slowly got up from his chair and placed his hand on her shoulder. "Breathe Myvette," he whispered. "Focus, you've lost control again and allowed doubt to take over."

Jax sighed. "You need to know how to let it pass through you Myvette," Jax said. "A seed of doubt can grow into a Tree of turmoil if you're not careful, but this is your first time channeling the Force. You've managed to allow the Force to come into you, that's great but you need to learn control."

Okay. The girl focused on her breathing. When I open the gates to the Force I have to be ready for what comes through. If I lose my focus I’ll be consumed by my own power, like the Sith who give into anger and misery and find themselves eaten alive by it.

I can do this…

She took in a deeper breath, really feeling the warmness of the air.

I can do this.

The girl clasped her hands together as her consciousness began slipping from her body, the reigns on her soul handed over to the Force.

I CAN do this!

And then there was nothing, just a series of clips pilled together by the vision of life the Force allowed her to perceive. Myvette was controlling the energy flowing into her too much now and it was preventing her from properly connecting with the Force. The best way to describe what was happening was to imagine a person rapidly turning a faucet off and on again whilst trying to fill a cup.

The cup would eventually fill but not as effectively as simply leaving the faucet on would. Her doubt had prevented Myvette from maintaining the connection before and now her overcaution was stopping the connection from establishing at all. She was both pulling and pushing against her own energy and the strain was visible in the veins bulging on her head and the sweat dripping from her chin.

Why am I so sweaty today?

Myvette closed the connection and scraped her way back into her body, the girl's vision temporality dimmed as the Force vacated her spirit. She’d failed again, even worse this time around.

Is my self-doubt so obvious that anyone and everyone can see it?

Myvette wished she had ordered a plate for herself so that she would at least have food to distract from the problem. Reaching across the table Myvette began to fiddle with a small sugar packet, it wasn’t that she desired the sugar but instead she simply enjoyed the feeling of the grains between her fingers.

I guess I don’t know as much about the Force as I thought I did. I don’t know how he will close the disconnect between us if I can’t even bridge the gap within myself.

"Sir is she all right?" A waitress placed a plate of Waffles and a small glass of Orange Juice onto the table. Jax gave the young waitress a quick smile before watching Myvette trying to connect with the Force again. "She's fine," Jax said taking a sip of Juice. "Don't worry about her."

Though deep down he was a little worried that Myvette was trying too hard to please him. All Jax said that Myvette needed to control the Force, that comes with time and practice. Yet Myvette immediately went back to meditating yet this time she performed worse. "Myvette," Jax said watching her struggle, beads of sweat formed her brow. "You're going too fast, it's something that you're going to learn through training and patience."

The Jedi Master took the plate Waffles and offered it to Myvette. "That's where I come in," Jax said smiling. "I don't expect you to master harnessing the Force in a day. This takes years of practice, it's good that you can feel the Force but giving yourself fully to the Force is something that is a whole new challenge."

He smiled. "I'm sure you're still hungry," he said. "Eat up and afterwards we'll head to the meditation chambers."

Myvette continued fiddling with the sugar packet while Jax spoke. On some level, she didn’t want to hear a spiel about practice and training but she knew it to be true and did her best to take it in and accept reality for what it was. She wasn’t getting anywhere the way she was now and it would be better to drop it and pick it back up in a different location. Though she couldn’t shake the fear of not being able to channel the Force and the consequences that came with it.

As soon as his food came over Jax had offered it up to Myvette and her immediate instinct was to reject his offer. There’s no way she’d eat now! She still needed to-

Myvette pulled the plate of waffles over and cut her a small piece which she quickly drowned in syrup. Sliding the portion into her mouth the girl licked her fingers before wiping them off with a napkin. He didn’t expect her to master this concept in a day but that certainly wouldn’t stop her from trying to anyhow. Standing up, Myvette pulled her jacket over her body and adjusted her mask, she was eager to try again and hopefully do better than last time. Before she went, however, Myvette made sure to tip generously...the food was good after all.

Jax raised an eyebrow when Myvette drowned a small piece of Waffle with syrup. "The girl likes her sugar," He thought. It was nothing major but it was something to take note of in the future. Myvette ate quickly and placed a generous tip on the table, Jax did the same as he motioned Myvette to follow him. "I have found a way for you to communicate with me and Anneliese Kaohal Anneliese Kaohal ," Jax said. "There is an ability for Jedi to have form a mental accord and allow one to communicate telepathically with others."

The Jedi Master lead her towards his speeder given to him by Faith Organa Faith Organa . It was pretty fast and Jax nearly crashed into his own house trying to park the damn thing. "I'll guide you Myvette," Jax smiled. "Don't you worry, I'll show you how to focus and successfully channel the Force."

Myvette leaned back in her seat and let Alderaan’s cold breeze whip through her hair as the speeder raced through the streets a blur of motion. Myvette enjoyed riding in speeders and flying in ships, it gave her a sense of energy that few things could, and when someone else was at the helm she could sit back and ‘close’ her eyes which was actually just the girl releasing her Force Sight. The roar of the engine, the hum of the propulsion, even the stretching of leather every time Jax turned the wheel. It was so…peaceful and for a moment the world was gone, ripped from around her like a veil concealing what had been there all along…

Energy…

The speeder came to a jolting halt as Jax slammed on the brakes mere inches from what Myvette assumed to be his home. Jax wasn’t the best driver she’d ever seen but she wouldn’t complain, he was training her after all. Climbing out of the speeder Myvette straightened her dress while Jax began speaking about their training and what he said caught the girl by surprise.

The ability to communicate telepathically? Well, that’s something she certainly thought of before but never really attempted. Myvette took a vow against using her voice in light of the evil it’s done and she held little hope of ever regaining the privilege. Would this not be breaking her vow? Were her values so flimsy that she’d undermine them through the smallest loophole?

I can’t continue like this though. What if the three of us go on a mission and we fail because I can’t speak to either of them? I won’t just clam up like a coward…but I don’t trust myself either…augh! Why can’t the right choices ever be easy!?

With an outlook as clouded as hers, Myvette questioned how she’d even be able to feel the Force as she followed behind Jax her spirits deteriorating with each self-inflicted wound.

Jax could feel Myvette fear taking over her again, anxiety gripping the young girl her mind racing. "Deep breaths Myvette," Jax said. "It'll take some practice but once you form that mental accord it'll be as natural as breathing. You'll be fine my apprentice but I need you to do one thing...... and that is to trust me."

Trust is the most important thing between a Master and Apprentice it was something he struggled with when he trained Aveline Cuiléin Aveline Cuiléin but he with Anneliese Kaohal Anneliese Kaohal and Myvette it was something that Jax needed to build fast. Trust is a valuable thing to have and if it breaks then it's something one can never get back.

pauline-mauviere-x-p3un5i9soi1tk5cvho3-1280.jpg

The two arrived at the Jedi Temple that Jax built. It was a small building that overlooked the mountains of Alderaan. The Jedi Master exited the Speeder taking in the cold, frigid air. It felt relaxing as the coolness entered his lungs sending his senses into euphoria. "Follow me," Jax said leading Myvette towards the cliff. "Sit," Jax said while sat down onto the concrete floor. "Breathe and reach out," Jax whispered closing his eye. "I'll help you this time."

Walking around the temple with Jax Thio Jax Thio was an experience like none Myvette had ever had. Cold air rushed through the mountainside and off the cliffs toward the city below but the torrents of wind were not as powerful as they were harmonic singing a song as they whistled past her ears. It was incredible…if a bit chilly.

Removing her jacket and satchel, and placing both on the ground next to her, Myvette sat as instructed. The ground was cold and hard from the stiff breeze but it didn’t matter, the girl's focus had already centered on herself and her position in the world. The rocks, the clouds, the foliage, and the energy that connected them. That was the Force and that was the energy she must delve into and understand. It sang a bird's song and beat a heart's tempo it was life and it was barred to her as the girl reached out and found nothing.

Not death or darkness or the suffering of the small and feeble like she had found before. Truly nothing where the light and feeling within her had gone silent. There was nothing in her mind, not her breath, not Jax, and certainly not the Force. It was more akin to sleeping than actually channeling anything at all. The farther she reached out the more detached Myvette became her frustrations growing.

I see…NOTHING…only darkness. I don’t understand! I use the Force to see, this should be the easiest thing possible! Why am I failing such a small task-oh…that’s right. Because I keep thinking like this and it occupies my mind. I can’t let the Force inside my being if I'm already filled with doubt and uncertainty.

Myvette sunk back into meditation this time clearing her mind of everything she could possibly think of. Her focus lashed around rapidly as the Young Jedi pushed out every single thing that weighed down her head.

I see…nothing. But that’s what I need…

"That is right Myvette," Jax said hearing Myvette's voice. "It's always scary to learn a new technique or learning anything new in general but you need know is that all it takes is one step to start the journey. It's a dangerous path on becoming a Jedi but if you get on your feet and trust in the Force, there's no knowing where you'll go."

Myvette found herself inside a white dojo behind her was the symbol of the Jedi Order hanging proudly. To the far right were Lightsabers each of them of different makes from curved hilts, to double bladed Lightsabers hanging on a rack. In the middle of the Dojo was Jax Thio his eyepatch gone, and his eye fully healed. His prosthetic replaced by an organic arm; he was dressed in a black, sleeveless uniform with a dark red belt tied on his waist. "We've a successful connection." Jax said. "This a mind projection crafted by me using the Force. I designed this for you Myvette, I figured to further strengthen your connection with me, Anneliese Kaohal Anneliese Kaohal , and the Force you must undergo a specialized training."

He placed his hands behind his back. "It's also a good teaching tool," Jax smirked. "To teach Padawans the true nature of the Force, you know how we are bound by the rules of nature. Like rules like gravity, when a Jedi is enhanced by the Force you will understand some of those rules can be bent. Others can be broken."

The Jedi Master sighed. "You must unlearn what you have learned." Jax said. "And create a new level of understanding of the universe around you. With the Force as your ally, you have no limits," he said. "The Force's nutrients can nurture your tortured soul you can even talk."

He smiled. "Try it," he said.

With her mind clear and her spirit emptied it was easy for Jax to pull Myvette out of her surroundings and into the pocket of reality he had constructed. Every step, every breath of air she took was filled with raw focused energy like nothing she had ever seen or felt. It was becoming a redundant thought at this point but Jax was truly showing Myvette things so abstract she’d never conceive of them on her own.

He had transported himself and her to a dojo of some kind with rows of Lightsabers hung from the adjacent wall and doors that she assumed would go nowhere. There’s no reason that Jax would think so deeply about this space, after all, it likely took a large amount of stamina and focus just to generate the room they were in now. Not only had his outfit changed but Jax sported an organic arm and the eyepatch usually sashed across his face was no longer there or needed. Had he created a sort of…perfected version of himself? Was that even possible? This must be what he meant by “they had no limits,” the Force is energy and all energy needs to operate is a bit of direction.

“So this is the power of a Jedi Master.”

Myvette’s hands snapped over her mouth, shock racking her senses. Why did she speak that aloud? It was almost instinctual even after the years she spent conditioning herself against open speech. Was this a side-effect of the dojo?

“W-Why is t-this happening? Is this what y-you meant by ‘no limits’?” Even in a plane that didn’t truly exist except in their minds, Myvette struggled with the courage to use her voice somehow feeling cheap for using it even without her own head.

Myvette looked down at her attire. “Why do you c-change while I-I remain stagnant? Is it b-because I
am stagnant? As a person? Or in the Force?”

Jax chuckled when Myvette covered her mouth in shock unable to believe what is happening. Maybe he overdid it, it was too much too soon for Myvette. Her mind may start to break forcing Jax to break the connection but thankfully it was doubt taking over rather than panic. "It is..... a taste of what the Force is once you allow it to flow through you." Jax answered. "Once you free your mind, you are open to many possibilities."

The Jedi Master frowned when Myvette said she could not change. "You don't believe," Jax responded. "But look how you spoke out loud, the seeds of belief is planted within you Myvette you just need to grow and nurture it. That my Padawan takes patience."

Jax smiled. "You have to let it all go," Jax said. "Fear, doubt, insecurity, those serve as barriers for the gentle stream that is the Force. If you ought to strengthen the mental accord and communicate efficiently as if you are breathing then we must train."

He got into a fighting stance. "Hit me," Jax said. "If you can."

“I don’t…believe?”

Myvette looked at her hands and how…faded they were almost translucent in their aspect. The dojo they stood in was nothing more than a warped perception of reality created through her master's faith and willpower alone. How could she doubt what was so obviously true when it was all around her!? The only artificial thing here…

“...Is me.”

Myvette watched silently as Jax broke into a defensive stance his smile brighter than a collapsing star. Something about his gaze told her that he wouldn’t be nice enough to simply stand still and let the girl strike him.

“Is this your way of making me believe, master? You think that if I strike you I’ll have no choice but to believe in you?”

Myvette’s lips turned up in a smile, she didn’t even know why just that saying it aloud brought joy to her in a way she didn’t truly understand. He really is going to try to teach her, isn’t he? Even still…she would have never anticipated…well everything that was happening.

“If that's how it’s going to be…”

Myvette stepped forward cautiously her stance as defensive as her master’s though less trained and refined. She’d be a fool to attack him blindly even if that wasn’t the true goal of all this. Maybe if he made the first move she could come up with a way to counter him.

“Then I’ll just have to be a true believer then.”

Jax smiled when Myvette mentioned that the only way to make her believe was to hit Jax. "If that's what it takes," he replied. "Then possibly." He could feel Myvette starting to become at ease but it was only the start. "Feel," Jax said circling around the young girl while she curled up in a defensive stance. "Rely on your instincts feel the energies of the Force breathing life into this place. It is real but at the same time not only fueled by one's connection to the Force."

The Jedi Master opened up with a flurry of punches striking at her stomach and chest anticipating her response.

A barrage of punches sent Myvette spiraling into the wall, her stomach coiling up. Any part of the girl that was cynical just had the skepticism punched out of it. Jax didn’t doubt his ability to run over and shunt her against the wall so what was holding her back? An arbitrary boundary that only exists to hold her back? A cage she’s locked herself inside as a punishment?

“I can…see you better than you can see me. Master.”

The dojo faded back into Myvette’s vision with the sight of Jax Thio Jax Thio posted in the center of the room. His stance was a bit relaxed after his attack but by no means faulty and even while he lectured his eyes tracked Myvette his thoughts pursuing any shift in weight or movement.

I doubt I’ll be able to get a straight hit in. If I don’t want to get pummeled again I’ll have to nullify his defense somehow.

Myvette followed the dim blue aura stretching and warping around Jax like thin plastic wrap. Every movement he made his aura moved in anticipation, a direct amalgam of his intentions. It twitched every now and again but the stillness of his atmosphere was honestly a bit unsettling. Jedi Masters literally operated on a different wavelength. Myvette pushed that notion aside, she couldn’t get hung up on the fine details because if Jax hits her like that a couple more times all those pancakes and waffles are coming right back up.

“I have to say master…your aura…is amazing. I hope you’ll teach me how to-haugh!”

With a slight of the hand, Myvette felt her desire press against the back of Jax’s left knee in hopes to throw the man off balance and strike him.

“Sorry for my underhandedness! But the odds are against me master!” Myvette dashed forward and pressed off the ground her foot moving in for a kick across the jawline.

"Do you really?" Jax said in between his attacks, his punches were as quick as a serpent and his approach was as implacable as Waampa chasing his prey. "Do you feel the Force around you? Do you feel the weapons on the rack, do you feel the air around you? Do you feel the connection between me, you, and Anneliese Kaohal Anneliese Kaohal ? If you don't feel any of those, then you are not in tuned with the Force."

The Jedi Master easily anticipated Myvette's strike by twisting away and striking her chest with his palm. Myvette landed on the ground back first leaving her vulnerable for Jax to leap high in the air. "Her belief is growing," Jax thought. "But she still has much to learn."
