Force User Rank Tweak

For me personally, probably somewhere around 3 months. Truth be told I have an awful memory in most cases and can't tell you how long it actually was. I have no idea what the rate is for others, but I imagine for a lot of the beginners it takes at least a month or two.

I dunno *shrug*

Actually now that I think back on it, my first character didn't get promoted until well after it's first year. Old Jhar'vok... almost forgot about him. What an awful and broken character lol

Never put myself up for promotion, or really associated with a faction that actively promoted people.
I was new and a Nervous Nelly, and didn't know how to go about such things.

I ended up in a minor faction, and the Owner was like
'You've been around long enough, I'll promote ya.'
And bam. I was a Knight.

How long did it take you guys to go from Padawan-level to Knight, here, at Chaos? I don't care about other forums.
I created this character in March 2015 and was promoted to Knight in July 2015. So, 3-ish months there. That was with the Primeval, after participating in the Wayland invasion.

[member="Zak Dymo"] was also created March 2015, and it was about 10 months before anyone spoke to me about promoting him to Knight. (I didn't promote him then for story reasons). I had changed from one Major Faction to another, and it was the receiving Major Faction that was the first to talk to me about my plans for him and promotion.

Why did it take you guys so long, do you think?
Not asking for starters, expecting it to happen as it had for others (They might have asked and I was unaware as there is an expectation for trackers and such but uncertain how much it's scrutinized until it comes down to it.) Expected a certain flow, a natural order of things if you will. Masters/Knights to be attentive to the very thing they're asking for in the first place.

The same was expected for Knight to Master (I guess mostly my personal absence in and out has been to blame) but I also am more preserving for that to enhance character development and ensure that the time is right for that particular level - character wise.

Each time I was promoted here it was through story and achievement, IC work that caused it. I never asked [member="Darth Carnifex"] for it we worked through IC plots and story and when Kaine felt it was time Braxus move up the ranks he bestowed it upon his apprentice. I feel there's too much of an OOC focus on getting through the ranks. We need to stop trying to do these insta knights and masters and start focusing on character development. I had a lot more enjoyable of a story through my promotions, I wasn't even concerned with my own promotions I was enjoying the plots I had weaved with other characters.

Above all your right so long as it's done organically.

On average? About a month not including leaves.

And I say that as only. I'd say that's about the average going rate for newbros.

Ding. Ding. Ding.

This is probably why I love working with those I get to write and work with for story and character development. I've just been having an absolute ball with everything we're working on. And all the things we have lined up or in mind for all the characters. I really want to work Charlyra up to her Knighthood, organically and not be it like, oh well you have x amount of posts or you've been here x amount of years. I don't care of Charlyra is like forever a Padawan ala Jolee Bindo. I care about her story and how she grows through that story as a person and how that effects her and how she operates when it comes to her training and her being a force user.

If you want to sit here and chew through ranks, go play Call of Duty Multi-Player and chew through their ranks, or some other MMO that gives you all the shiny titles and ranks. This is an RP Board, role-play it out! Get into the story, get into your character and write.

Well depending on which time I was promoted, two different stories. The first time it was because I wasn't part of any major faction and floated around doing dastardly things as an over powered acolyte, then Jon decided to a training thread with me and boom he was a knight (shortly after I have up on the character unsatisfied with his 'acheivement'.

The second time I was promoted as Zambrano the Hutt... I honestly have no idea but I figure he was doing so well for himself (without being overpowered) that perhaps people didn't notice at first. I never had a dedicated master either so that might be part of why it took some time to get noticed for a promotion.

But on the topic of grinding through ranks, this suggestion isn't about that. This isn't a short cut to UNLIMITED POWER, this isn't some crazy loop around where you get to 'do' things without working for it, it's an additional option for writers who've done the work to expand their horizons in character creation, while at same time placing caps on how far they should be going with the option.

I hope that makes sense, but I can understand that this might be an unpopular idea even if in principle it's for all the right reasons you'dhope for in a constructive suggestion.

What I have never seen anyone mention in these sort of discussions, is that no one takes into account the kind of writers that can't dedicate their lives to the forum.

In general this community is really relaxed when it comes to LOA's and absence and stuff like that compared to other kinds of sites. But what about the guy that just wants to write some cool stories as an old obi-wan kenobi esq master? People like those probably don't got the time or energy for 1 year of character development.
