Faction From Now On || Knights Obsidian

G A T H E R

The Cataclysm. That was what it had come to be known. A catastrophic outbreak of some otherworldly force dealt a devastating blow to the once great force order of the Knights Obsidian. Once numbering in the thousands, now barely a hundred. Orders were given to the survivors in the aftermath: Help the people of the Confederacy. Do what you must to survive. Contain what vestiges escaped. Further instruction will come.
Nearly a week later, a message was received. It contained but a single instruction: Roon. The great bastion of the Knights Obsidian. The very same fortress that the order retreated to after the events of Shadow's Point. In spite of the headquarters in the Citadel on Geonosis, when the security of the order was threatened, the fortress of Roon played host to the order. And so it was now that the survivors were gathered within its halls at Voph's summons. Voph himself sat in silence upon one of the benches within the hall. Though there was a podium from which to address the crowd, Voph elected not to use it.
Today was not about leading an army, or stirring a nation. Today was about survival. About coming back from the brink. And so he sat until they had gathered, when he could address them as family. As the brothers and sisters that they had come to be. And to inform them of where the Knights Obsidian stood, and what would be asked of them in the coming days...

Another One For The Records

This was a situation she had found her self in many times over, backed into a corner and trying to come out alive. It was nothing new to her, as always the women's face calm and stoic. Kurenai was confident she could get out alive and live to see another day... though this time around it wasn't just her.

Other times this happened it was in private groups, mercenary units or rebel cells, today was not that. These people were her comrades, she had come to know and lead many in the battles fought by the CIS. She just couldn't in her right mind leave them and make it out by herself like in the past. One this days she'd try to keep as many of her friends alive as possible and have them see through to the end.

With a silent determination she stood along with the other knights gathered, eyes gazing towards Kyyrk Kyyrk , either waiting for words or for the coming storm. Her worn but trusty armor draped over her body, varying weapons on hand at a moments notice, all checked and combat ready. Perhaps a little over the top but she didn't want to be caught with her pants down no matter the situation.

If anything was going to try and break into this fortress they'd have to get through her first, which was no easy feat.

A gathering of imperceptible voices scantly audible could draw one to strain to hear them whispered in the halls for just a moment. In their passing, the sound of boots would quietly herald the approach of another. Shadow slowly fell and gathering about the Nightmother's feet before fading into nothingness in her passing. Her glowing, green eyes swept over the interior of the chamber upon her arrival.
Events of late had demanded calling upon a great deal of power, and consorting with numerous spiritual entities for support. The calamity a week prior and its aftermath was no exception. In fact it was the worst of the lot. Not even for the mess it caused the Living, but in confronting the spirits that had wavered when tempted with slipping across the Veil. An unreliable partner was no partner at all. Sometimes a Witch needed to remind her spiritual companions of their responsibilities -- and the consequences for failing to abide by the terms of their agreement.
If dark currents circled Vytal Noctura as she set foot in this place, it was only because one could not embrace the Light in bringing revelation to the Realm of the Dead. The connection with the Nether had been strong even as her body suffered under its weight; but unlike many times before she had not lain in bed days afterward. There had been much to do, and the spirits once lashed back into their proper places had dutifully supported her in turn.
Her gaze found Voph sitting on one of the benches in silence. The Pale Witch stopped among the benches and studied the scene in silence as the black wisps of fog silently smoked about her boots.

Beric had been there on Monastery.

When the unknown had eaten away at its halls, consumed Squires, Masters, and Knights alike.

He had done what he could to ensure that whatever monstrosity had befallen Moorwood Peak would not destroy the planet around it. But that did not change the fact that Moorwood Peake -- and the Knights Obsidian that had lived there, trained there, bled there -- were now gone.

It had been days before Beric would've heard from any of the other posts, and the news was all the same. Whatever had consumed Moorwood Peak had consumed the other temples and bases of the Knights Obsidian. He'd offered Frosthall as a refuge to those who had survived, but the few that arrived were pitiful in contrast to the thousands that had previously served the order. Whether this purge had been caused by the Force or by some unknown malevolent entity was all speculation.

But it was undeniable the loss that they had felt. Even now, he could feel its aftermath like a shockwave echoing in the Force.

Now, apparently, the Lord Commander had finally decided it time to regather the tattered remnants of the Knights. Perhaps now at this meeting on Roon, at the edge of Confederacy space, Beric would get the answers he was seeking.

Or, he would leave with more questions than he had started with.

Death.

As a former Enforce of the Black Sun, Abel Denko thought that he was immune to the sting of death. He had snatched life out of the bodies of many before, thus he could kill without flinching. Yet, the cataclysm which had rampaged across Confederate space was one that struck him in the soul. It was by pure happenstance that he was upon Ilyria when the Knighthood had succumbed to the assault. He had followed a newfound friend to her homeworld and had only just succeeded in taking her under his wing. Yet, whilst settling into the guest chambers for an evening of rest, he felt the reverberations through the Force. The cries. The damnation. An order of thousands was reduced to a mere handful in the span of a day.

Due to the unseen levels of danger, Abel had instructed his apprentice Fauvel Astier Fauvel Astier to tarry on Ilyria. To not follow until he returned for her. He then hearkened to the summons which reached across the holonet, beckoning the Knighthood home.

Abel had not set foot on Roon in what felt an eternity. Between the mercenary ventures and his new role of Lord of his family on Naboo, he only made the journey when it was absolutely necessary. This was one such moment. As he advanced through the blighted halls, the reality of the situation sank in. The death he felt through the Force those days ago now echoed throughout each stone. The once-proud Knighthood had been diminished - but they were not dead. They would come back from this, stronger. They had to. Lest the Southern Systems would be in peril. The Lord continued his advance until he came upon his peers. He witnessed the Nightmother, the Lord Commander, and a Lord Marshal awaiting the rest of the order.

He came to a halt and rendered a half-bow of respect, before finding a seat. It wouldn't be too long before the survivors made their way. It wouldn't be too long until the Lord Commander laid forth the plan for tomorrow.

In this, Abel had absolute faith.

Roon. Gerwald had found himself on the world called to yet another meeting for the Knights Obsidian. The lupine found the more he advanced in the Knights, the more meetings he had to attend. At least no one gave it a second thought that Gerwald refused to dress in a formal manner. He was casual in nature, and preferred to be himself among his peers. That did not make him any less effective as a leader or knight. Gerwald had managed to work his way through the ranks of Knights Obsidian on his own skill and his own merit.
They had suffered a blow. The citadel was gone. Such defeats at home were not things the Knights Obsidian were used to. Some had said they had failed their people, that the Confederacy was falling part from within. That was not true but he knew that propaganda was often what people believed to be true when it was nothing more than lies gift wrapped in something palatable.
Gerwald needed to hear what was being said at least. Other faces he knew were joining them. Were they at a crossroads? Some would say they were. With the citadel gone and the capitol moving Naboo, they needed to determine their future. What would it be? That was what the Lord Commander would speak to. The lupine was curious. What had their blind leader determined for them this time?

It was funny how chit worked out.

All that stuff with Castagne and The Amalgam had trashed her. Beyond trashed her. She had nearly gone mad from The Amalgam's endless sadistic torture, both physical and psychological after being kidnapped defending a CIS planet.

It had been a long while since she was an active member but she was still on the roster, and made up for it by providing The Knights Obsidian with special weapons and tech. While she had spent all that time being horrifically tortured then recovering, bad chit had happened to The Knights Obsidian. She had not gotten the full details being so busy trying to recover and keep her house from falling apart financially that it was not until recently she was among the last out of a hundred survivors. Blind fething luck.

No, Nine thought as she silently as she walked alongside the Bounty Hunter Witch Maple Harte, clad in her hooded and masked black and white armor in the interior of The Fortress. Not luck. The will of the Force.

She was alive, yet again a survivor. She knew about hopeless odds. Knew about being hunted. She had hidden on the Castle. Time to stop hiding.

Nine vouched for Maple, as Maple had finally come out of hiding, sullen and quiet since the revelation at Kar Shian, when she had faced down The Amalgam to rescue Nine...and learned the evil beast had been her old mentor the whole time. The Bounty Hunter gripped her black staff with red, spike like tips. Nine could feel the Bounty Hunter's unstable mind, jumping between a hundred delusions in the span of seconds that she believed were completely true in the moments that occured.

The only face they both recognized was that of Kurenai Yumi Kurenai Yumi , and both waved to her as they took a seat at one of the benches. Nine's green kimono with white rose print embroidery hid the movement of her legs, making it seem as though she had an unnatural glide to her step like Commissioner Gordon when he snuck up on John Wick in the Nineties.

"Comfy?" Nine asked in her deep contralto, hood not drawn over her face, but shoulders haunched as her body detected prey everywhere. Her black eyes with a purple glint at the center scanned the room for anyone else who would show as she sat next to Maple.

"The squirrels my spine is made of smell candy everywhere." Maple hissed nervously.

"Ah. You ARE comfy!" Nine exclaimed quietly so as to not disturb Kyyrk Kyyrk as he gathered his thoughts.

"Don't worry, my spine smells things all the time too. Especially after The Amalgam shocked me."

Maple nodded in confirmation and both turned their attention to the leader...

Maple spotted Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura and made a note to try and get ahold of her later for advice on killing her nemesis...nothing she had tried had worked so far. Doashim was silent, and had been for a year...

Location: Roon

Roon, a world she had only known from history books, under normal circumstances she would have been excited to explore the planet and meet the local inhabitants but this was no normal time, the calamity as it was being referred to at the moment by various parties in the confederacy had come unbidden, quickly and it had been devastating. She had been on Naboo, following the assassination of the Queen, then the sudden ascension of a new monarch she had remained behind to keep an eye on things if nothing else to make sure the second coronation did not meet the same end as the first.
When it truly began in earnest she had felt the disturbance in the force, and could hardly leave Naboo fast enough, unfortunately, she arrived too late to save many but as she had arrived on Vylmira she had immediately sprung into action and began to assist a massive effort to evacuate the populace to safety. As she entered the hall only soft footsteps announced her arrival, her usual upbeat nature was a bit depressed, both from fatigue and worry though as her eyes fell on each person in the room she began to take stock of who was missing and who was present, for her part she was elated to see both Kyyrk Kyyrk and Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura though not surprised in the least. She found her way quietly to the Nightmother's side and gave her a quick nod and watched the room, Voph was understandably silent and so she would remain as well, the time for words would come soon enough.

Voph did not stir for a long time. Not until he was sure that the remaining Knights had either gathered in their entirety, or until Darcy confirmed that they were alive and well, but not able or willing to come, for whatever reason they might have had. Voph pushed himself to his feet slowly. It seemed as though the weight of a world rested upon the man's shoulders. And for today, it did. Many worlds. He could not help but take it personally that the Order had fallen. He raised his hands to indicate to the gathered that he was prepared to speak. Voph's voice was hushed. Pained. And yet it still carried through the hall. Piercing through the somber mood like a knife.
"My friends." Voph paused, letting his arms fall to his sides. He started again. "My brothers. My sisters. I am pleased to see those of you that have gathered here. The past week has not been easy. For any of us. Some of us still toil in the ash and dirt, working to right the wrong that has befallen so many planets in our nation. But I would first wish to ask that we remember the vast number that have fallen. Our brothers and sisters who are no longer with us, save in spirit."
Voph fell silent for a moment, watching wordlessly as some bowed their heads in respect. After an appropriate pause, he spoke of what many had likely gathered to hear. "The cause of this attack came from within the Citadel. We still do not have a complete knowledge, but we have identified and isolated the device responsible. Our theory is that said device caused a ripple across the Netherworld network that Vytal and the Solanaceae have created. What happened after was a result of...something attempting to breach through the Netherworld, and take purchase within our own. Rest assured that the exact nature of this entity is being investigated, and a method to either remove or destroy it is being developed. If you wish to help in this endeavor, contact me after this gathering has concluded. But for now, suffice it to say that we are safe."
He did not name it specifically, but he knew the device in question was the Holocron-like device that had identified itself simply as The Eye. The exact nature of this device had yet to be revealed. But Voph had every faith that its true nature would be uncovered in time. But given the destruction it had already wrought, its exact nature and location was a closely guarded secret. For now, only he and Vytal Noctura knew of its exact location.
"But what of the future? What of the grand halls that now lay empty? The mighty Citadel that once held an army?" Voph paused, collecting himself before speaking further. "Such heights, we may never explore again. I have spoken with the Vicelord and key members of the Viceroyalty at length. The Knights Obsidian as we know it, is no more. It has been our decision that the Knighthood, now absent the culture of growth and learning that we once cultivated so greatly, will embrace fully the role of Inquisition and Enforcement. The duty to defend the peoples of this nation has always been ours. Now, a duty we embrace more readily. In the absence of great schools of study, our order shall take a more active role within the galactic community."
Voph began to gesture to the various members of the knighthood as he spoke their names. "No longer shall we have a council of Obsidian Lords, and grandmasters of their disciplines, but rather a collection of Lord Marshals. Overseers of each of the regions of Confederate space. Kurenai. Rayne. Asaraa. Taramaz. Rylan. And the newest of our Masters, Gerwald. These shall be your mentorship, and your oversight. You Knights and Squires shall report to them on any missions you may be given, or undertake. Our role is that of enforcers. Judge and Jury. And, in the absence of mediating legal disputes, our realm is the Force. Any hazard or danger that may present itself, we are to seek out and destroy."
"But that having been said, I do not wish to stand here and lecture to you all of our new purpose. There will be time enough for the mundanities in the coming days. As I am sure that you all have many questions. If you do, please, make them known. This is a confusing and disturbing time for many of us. What comfort I may provide, I intend to."

Practicality.

When at last the Lord Commander made his address, it was immediately evident that a great burden rested upon his shoulders. The survivors of the Calamity needed answers. And, following an appropriate silence for the fallen, he provided just that. Abel had only heard whispers that a device of unknown nature had been recovered and returned to the stronghold of the Knighthood. However, he had not an inkling its design, purpose, or function. From what Voph asserted, the device was directly responsible for the literal demise of their Order. And yet, he did not state that it was destroyed. Isolated. Contained. But not destroyed.

This did not sit well with the Knight.

Though his time and rank within the order was intermediate, he did not feel alone when his teeth clenched in response to this news. He held his peace until the Lord Commander had finished. There was to be an alignment of purpose in this post-Calamity world. The Knighthood would serve as Judge and Jury for the people, for the nation. We and What Army? The thought invaded the forefront of Abel's mind. They were but a shadow of their former selves. And after such devastation, how could they ever hope to restore their numbers.

How could they say to the people that, after bringing such a destructive device under their roof, they should be charged with educating their children in the Force? Or having judgment enough to play the role of Judge and Jury? How could anyone have faith in them when the device still existed? What happened if another Calamity happened? Thus, Abel stepped forward. "Lord Commander." he began, rendering a polite nod. Though righteous angst boiled within, there was still respect. Still decorum. "Now knowing that this device was the source of so much devastation, I must know, why is it that it has not been destroyed? If it was the key to an attempted invasion, then surely it is better suited demolished. At the very least, would that not be the best way to avenge our fallen?"

He paused, electing his next words carefully. "I can only assume that the people within these chambers are aware that the device was the culprit. But what if this seeps out into the Galaxy? Will the people hold enough faith in us - we who kept the device which killed us - to judge them? To be their representation? To uphold their laws?" With his doubts out in the open, he then asked the most obvious question. "And beyond that...how can we hope to act as Justice for the entire nation. Our numbers are hardly enough to handle Roon itself now, let alone hundreds of systems."

A sigh escaped him. His thoughts were out in the open. The future of the Knighthood certainly rested upon the shoulders of one man - and in this moment, Abel did not envy him.

People gathered, formed a circle as they centered around those with authority. The purple-black hair the hapan woman bore formed a makeshift wall to the world around her as she listened to the shuffle of feet, the murmur of voices. Made herself remember that she was in a safe place now. That there were people around her that wouldn't fall so easily to the...the things that had taken control of the temple with violence and carnage.

Her arms were held together, wrapped around her head and knees as though they would block out the world along with the thoughts that plagued her. The skin on her arms almost glowed with an unhealthy red to them. Scrubbed and scratched constantly, rubbed raw by nervous hands looking to ease the tension in her. The flashback of running for her life. The crimson that had stained her arms and then-

Her hands tightened, nails pricking her forearms and pushing the nightmares down as she heard someone begin to speak.

Her face rose above the barrier her arms and legs formed, watching as everyone gathered closer to the center. She pushed off the floor slowly, an unwillingness to the movement that was not shouldered by choice. She was tired, drained from sleepless nights. Moving closer, she wrapped her arms about herself, a nervous twinge in her shoulder blades making her shiver as she moved close enough to hear without straining.

Jalan lingered at the edges of those gathered, still shaken deeply by what she had seen. What had happened around her. How close she had come to joining those that had not made it out. A cold chill ran down her spine as she hugged herself a little tighter, keeping her eyes on Kyyrk Kyyrk as he spoke. Then Abel Denko Abel Denko spoke after as her eyes wandered over those gathered around her.

The words were reassuring, and the mention of action they spoke of helped as well. That they would take more active roles in the galaxy was another subtle assurance. Active teaching and learning. Her eyes narrowed as an invasive thought crept into her mind. The only issue was, everyone around her held themselves as though the trouble had merely winded them.

Jalan held herself as though the planet had crumbled beneath her feet.

She was separate from these people that seemed so confident in the face of such creatures. Separate in the fact that everyone else had steeled themselves for action, while she still struggled to remain calm. Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura had been a rock for her to focus on during the incident, even receiving aid from her in the form of the potions she had been handed. Ones that had set, and even began to mend a broken arm amidst the danger that had taken the temple abruptly.

Now they were to take the position of judge and jury? She prayed whoever had been saddled with her name had more patience than sense. There was one thought that tried to push its way through the creeping doubt and misery. The thought of more creatures encroaching on the rest of the galaxy made her stomach churn. How would people less able than even herself survive if subjected to the ill will of those beings?

MhxKjxk.png

Vytal turned her head slightly to regard Taiia Locke Taiia Locke as the woman drew near. A silent nod of recognition, appreciative of the Witch joining them that day. The Solanaceae had suffered though by the numbers the number loss was not as great as the Knights in general; largely due to the nature of the threat and that their roster included those with little to no spiritual aptitude. Citizenry eager to learn about the greater, unseen world around them and to aid the Witches in that pursuit. They had hardly been spared, however, as Jalan Riyadosh would attest to the disaster within the Academy's halls.
A slight narrowing of the eyes followed certain thoughts the Commander made known. Only because while she agreed to the strategic direction of focusing the Knights under the circumstances, they were far from abandoning the 'great schools of study.' A fact that would be brought forth quite shortly once the floor was open to comment.
Slowly the Nightmother's radiant green eyes turned to fasten on the man that spoke his mind, Abel Denko Abel Denko . This was good, as little could be discussed nor learned by keep one's mouth sealed. "The Solanaceae possess vaults for objects of this power for storage and examination. Else we may destroy this device only to fall victim to one just like it elsewhere in the galaxy. Destruction of knowledge only leaves us exposed to the dangers of what we do not yet understand."
On a broader subject, the Nightmother slowly regarded the assembly around her as she spoke, "While our numbers have diminished, our purpose and the need for unity has not. We will refashion a means of education for all those able to use the Force, and continue to educate the masses about the unseen world. Each of us need not face the challenges of the galaxy alone, and it is not our ability to call upon great powers that makes us worthy to protect those in need." There was no shame in working along side other groups or nations to secure a prosperous future. There never had been; it was simply more keenly noticed just how vital cooperation was now that overwhelming numbers alone could not be counted upon.

"Uhhh, I have a question...how about we try reverse engineering it?" Nine wondered. "Get our best instruments, figure out what makes it work, find a dead lifeless planet to experiment on that we don't mind flushing down the toilet, and see if we can't build lesser versions--INCREDIBLY lesser if need be...as for this new role to take on, I don't much mind. With our position as serious as it is, a more hard nosed mindset will be necessary. My Clan stands by ready to assist."

"I stand by ready to put a bolt in someone, but I'm always good for that..." Maple mentioned, thinking everyone in the room, Kyyrk Kyyrk included, had internal organs made of silly string.

"I offer Castle Morpheus as a place to conduct operations and training from. Its been recently repaired, and everything is running smoothly on it."

"You'll need recruits quick, and combat capable ones even quicker..." Maple noted, turning to Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura .

"Master Noctura, perhaps we could cut some of the training time by magically imparting certain knowledge to recruits to get them at least the basics of fighting or whateverthey are supposed to do? Is that possible?" Maple asked.

"I would also start being extra paranoid, because this really is the perfect time for our more conventional enemies to start laying in plots and double agents. Our screening process will have to be at least 007 times more paranoid than usual. Somebody gets a mole in now, while we're reorganizing? We're fethed..." Nine asserted in her deep contralto. "Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they got a mole in the CIS already."

"It does us no good to cover our ass against such an otherworldly threat if we aren't paying attention to mundane threats." Maple agreed. "Rebuilding our intel apparatus will also be paramount."

Here eyes contained to wander around the others that slowly showed up, the amount being less then she had anticipated, a sore sight but also expected considering what they had been through. Looking around more her eyes fall upon Nine Lives Nine Lives and her company, Kurenai giving a small wave in their direction as each sent a silent greeting out. It was a good sight to see her well but if anyone was able to live through such an ordeal Ni Ne would be one.

That was the extent of any interaction between the two before Kyyrk Kyyrk began to speak, informing those present about the very precarious situation they now found themselves in. Once again the force order of the CIS being reorganized to better suit the confederacies needs, well at least how their leader reasoned it should be. Needless to say it was an interesting turn, going from military to almost solely aw informant, not to similar from how their predecessors the Dark Acolytes acted.

The only difference was back then the DA was a small group for a small confederacy, not the CIS was arguably the largest force in the galaxy and would need a much more extensive , a point made by Abel Denko Abel Denko . His words did make sense, though they seemed fairly harsh about how they would be perceived along with removing the problem right away.

"The Night Mother makes a point, needlessly destroying information would make us no better then the Sith Empire. We need to learn what we can and also try and make a way to understand and counteract anymore possible threats". Her gaze turning to Nine Lives Nine Lives for a second, "though I think trying to reverse engineer it right now may be rushing ahead to far, first we need to fully recover, bolster our numbers and establish ourselves and the sectors ". A task that would differ much depending on each area of CIS space.

"I can vouch for the Ike family's support in this matter to help rebuild and organize our ranks", if need be also pull on some other connections from outside of CIS space. "Atrisia itself also has many complexes and facilities brought about by the many wars and invasions it's had to fend off over the years". "I am certain I can liaison with the Princess and get permission from the Emperor for us to use them for training and operations".

Gerwald sat and listened. He was torn on the right course of action, though he was as surprised as the rest to find out the device responsible for decimating their numbers was still in their possession. It was information those on the Masters' Council should have had before walking into the meeting. In truth, Gerwald was growing tired of the the slipshop attempts at those who were in leadership of the Knights Obsidian to actually lead. Not a one had served them well in his time. Some calamity, failure, or betrayal, seemed to follow those who led. Perhaps the role of Lord Commander was a cursed one.
As many offered their support to see the artifact kept in a vault, Gerwald found the words of Abel Denko Abel Denko resonating with him. It was rare Gerwald found himself agreeing with those who were followers of the light side of the force, but his words were too logical. Why would they keep something which could cause so much devistation.
Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura and Kurenai Yumi Kurenai Yumi both assured it could be kept safe. Containment was not what Gerwald was most concerned about per se. Something so powerful could be abused by those who would see it turned against anyone that opposed them. The lupine was one who sought power ever since his encounter with Darth Prazutis, the mountain responsible for killing Naedira. This device was too much for anyone however. There were lines even Gerwald would not cross.
He cleared his throat as those who were speaking finally stopped long enough for him to interject. Gerwald stood to his full height, one that was impressive to most. His stature was something he was beginning to learn how to use to his advantage. Blue eyes scanned the room and waited until all eyes were fixed on him before he began to speak.
"Was this device not in storage when it caused the calamity we are only now beginning the journey of recovering from. I do not care if we think a vault exists or not which can contain it. Containment has already failed. Why should we allow such a thing to remain, a thing which could be so easily turned against us once more? Abel Denko is correct, we should destroy this thing, and ensure that it will never be used again. Furthermore, I would like to know what we will do to increase our numbers. What hope of a future do we even have if there are no members to replenish the lives we lost? Should we not be recruiting those who are force sensitive and add to our ranks once more. Whether we like it or not, we have tasted war in our systems, and we will again!"

Voph stood silent for a long moment as questions filled the small space. The Knights were scared. Angry. And for that, Voph could not blame them. "The road before us holds many branches. Any number of choices to make. And for some of you, I agree." Voph clasped his hands together at the small of his back. "The Eye should be destroyed. Any relic of that power and that magnitude has no place within this galaxy. But not yet. Not until I know that I can do so safely." Voph looked to Gerwald, the most junior of the Masters. "The device was completely inert until one of our own activated it. It was not in containment when the incident happened, it was still in transit."
Voph sighed quietly, his head hanging as he admitted something that many of the Knights, particularly the senior knights, likely already knew. "I have dealt with enough relics in my day. Containing them. Destroying them. And I can say with certainty that The Eye is among the most dangerous I have ever handled. It deserves to be destroyed at the soonest opportunity. And you would be wrong, Kurenai. The Sith would not have destroyed it. The Sith would have used it as yet another of their many weapons."
Voph paused for a moment. "But this device affects us all. And so it should be that we all have a say in what is done with it. And if we elect to destroy it, then the choice is this: Do we study the device to discover how to do so safely, or do we destroy it with all possible haste, and pray that we can survive whatever it unleashes?" Voph added as an after thought, "Of course, if it is a seal for some extra planar being, then we simply need to take it among the people we like the least, and destroy it there. Better than those we protect, no?"
Though Voph never said it directly, his point was still there. What if destroying it caused just as much destruction as simply turning it on? And would that destruction spread? And if so, who among them was willing to live with the knowledge that they had intentionally doomed millions upon millions to their doom. "As for the lesser matters at hand, we rebuild the way we always have. Train those who have shown themselves to be worthy. In time, we may regain our numbers. But for now, worry not what tomorrow will bring. Focus instead on cultivating what we have. The Force shall guide those meant to stand among our number to us."
"As for standing guard over a multitude of systems? The Confederacy has always valued the independence of its member worlds. We need not provide constant vigilance to a world, save when they ask us. If they wish to see to their own security, let them. But if they wish Confederate oversight..." A mechanical whirring sounded from the doorway, and the clank of metal on stone echoed across the walls. Voph lifted his dominant hand to gesture to the doorway, and the droid that approached.
"Until such a time as our numbers suffice, the Vicelord has seen fit to grace us with a gift. We call it a Black Knight." The droid lurched to attention in front of Voph, who began to pace around it as he introduced it to the Knights. "More advanced than the Confederacy's typical battle droid, the Black Knights are to be our rank and file in times of war. I'll not bore you all with the complete list of features, but suffice to say, their numbers and ability will be adequate to assist us in enforcing the law where we may need. Finer details may be discussed at a later date. For now, we have a more pressing matter."
Voph paused for a moment, then turned back to the gathered knights. "For now, we ask ourselves: What of the Eye? Should we keep it? Or should we destroy it? The floor is yours, my brothers and sisters. You may say your peace, but understand this: Knight Denko speaks the truth. The device is dangerous. It will destroy us all, if we allow it to."

Almost as if seeking protection, Ashelia remained reclining on her back against a wall. The violet eyes remained focused on the small group not so far away, while the pointed ears bobbed up and down anxiously. Her heart was still agitated, seeing so many horrors at once was more than she could bear, even more so that she had run away from her father and her planet after seeing not so different horrors done with an intent almost similar to that of her father.

The elf's hand went to her face, pressing the temples beside her head with pressure, trying to relieve the agonizing pain caused by the anxiety of that conversation. Cursing in his own language in a whisper, more to himself than to others.
"By Melitele's sake ... what the hell are they talking about?", She tried to keep her attention focused on that question and how it was debated by others, but after Voph's words, all she could remember was the texture of her brains. scattered over the roof of the Citadel. The pride of the Confederacy was no more, they who had stayed out of the great galactic war for so long, just defending what was theirs, leaving the rest for the other chaotic nations in the universe to tear themselves apart by their crumbs.

It was curious for her to think that it was something from inside that had destroyed the Confederacy's greatest treasure rather than something external like an invading empire.
"Funny ...", she murmured, realizing that she had done it in a low tone in the common language, lowering her hand again and looking back at those who spoke.

The Nightmother's visage did not soften at Voph's words, but she at least was not as concerned regarding the state of the artifact. He wished to ensure destroying it could be done so safely? Then they would first need to understand how it worked and what it did. While she would not prefer to destroy anything of such power, there were times to weigh whether it was necessary to do so. They would at the very least possess information that could benefit them against similar constructs; and in the long run that was what was most important.
Though that acceptance was shaken when Voph then posited the decision should be left to the group. Obviously the Solanaceae needed to have more Knights attend classes on mystical objects of power if this should be left to debate. "Before the group weighs on this matter," Vytal intoned with a deliberately steady pace and level tone, "consider this artifact a large piece of technology bristling with power that under controlled conditions destroyed an entire city. Then consider how best to proceed." Better to find an off-switch on a power source rather than rupture its containment. She was far from knowledgeable of technology on the level of a Star Destroyer's engine, but the Witch had seen what happened when it exploded.
Her gaze shifted to Nine Lives Nine Lives , having heard the words of others but with the conversation moving quickly had been delayed in responding directly. "I am aware of a technique that allows transfer of knowledge between individuals. It is not a substitute to proper instruction, but it can suffice under the right conditions." Many people were careless when things came too easily, and there was little better than hands-on experience. "I would be willing to discuss the details further," the Nightmother paused for just a second, "pending the outcome of the discussion."
Kurenai Yumi Kurenai Yumi had also some thoughts on the matter and had been amenable to the idea of not destroying it at all (or at least not yet). "Many of the Solanaceae are working with local authorities, or available to assist in protecting the citizens. There will still be those Witches whose talents are best served studying objects of power; they will focus on this one provided we agree to study it for a safe disposal." Vytal was not one to fixate on a particular matter. Even with their loses, they could not afford to turn a blind eye to any threat -- certainly not one as large as the artifact posed. It was contained. For now. They needed to be certain it would remain that way and that it had not weakened the Veil between worlds in a way that would cause devastation later if not swiftly corrected.
Black lips pressed a hair thinner out of concern of a hasty decision as presently it seemed split between the two choices, the pale Witch's green eyes slid over the group to one in particular. She turned her head and nodded slightly to Taiia Locke Taiia Locke to suggest all was well before she stepped away. Slowly the woman drifted across the floor toward the outer edge of the gathering. A simple, fluid sweep of her hand along her midsection and a small leafy plant appeared in the palm of her hand. One she extended out toward Ashelia Solidor Ashelia Solidor . "This will dull the pain." To allow the woman to focus on her surroundings rather than feel lost in a haze.

Millu wasn't there when it happened. She hadn't seen the tragedy, hadn't felt the effects, didn't see the hundreds of Knights lost to the unknown have their lives curbed at their prime by something nobody knew was coming. The young squire felt somewhat guilty that she had been safe and sound back in Denon while her master and hundreds, thousands even, of other knights obsidian had to deal with this unforeseen affliction.

While Beric was out to Moorwook Peak, Millu had decided to take a charter ship to Denon in order to pick up the few possessions of hers she didn't have on herself when the girl crashed in Vandor all those months ago. It seemed like such a long time now, even though when she'd stop and count she was able to realize it had only been four months and a half. Those few things she picked up were simple but emotional items: a book her father had given her shortly before disappearing, and an old dress she used to wear when she was little, it had been her mom's favorite. The thing was, it just so happened that the day she was out of Frosthall was the day every single Knights Obsidian outpost was hit with the Cataclism.

The order had lost so many of their members, so many lives gone, and for what? The Lord Commander had called for a reunion and it seemed like it was finally time for what remained of the order to face the destruction they were tackled with a week ago.

Millu was quite nervous for this debacle. It was the first time she had been to any sort of almost-not nearly-formal reunion of the order, and the situation they were in definitely didn't help. Her thoughts running at a hundred miles per hour, Millu made sure to just stick close to Beric and look around. Besides, there weren't still that many people she knew there. It would be good to find a familiar face, though.

She stood quiet for the most part observing the others who had assembled as they discussed the eye, the object that had unleashed such desruction upon their order. Though as the discussion progressed more faces joined the assembly, the red headed woman turned only slightly to look at the new arrivals and seeing Millu Lee Millu Lee she offered the girl a slight smile and a nod before turning her attention back to the Lord Commander.
Her eyes followed the speakers as each laid out ideas for the artificat and how to handle its power, to dispose of it, keep it or even try to figure out how it worked so they could use it. Perhaps people we're not paying attention to the fact that it was brought out to study in the first place that in and of itself seems to have sparked catastrophe.
When the Nightmother spoke next she found herself nodding in agreement, a measured approach to the problem contain it until a way is found to safely destroy it. Taking it outside and smashing it against a rock was not a preffered method of dealing with objects of incredible power, she stepped forward a hair and spoke.
"Lord Commander if I may? Master Lechner, and Abel are correct to a degree. The artifact in question should indeed be destroyed while it is in our posession, should it find its way out of our hands there would be far greater trouble. That said however the Nightmother is correct that we should not rush to destroy something that we do not understand. Better that we contain it for now until it can safely be destroyed."
Her emerald eyes flicked to the nightmother quickly, both of them understood seeking knowledge especially carefully it was the Nightmother after all who tempered her own persuits in the force to be far less wreckless. Turning her eyes back to Kyyrk Kyyrk she gave a quick nod and took a step back signaling she was done speaking to those in the room and folded her arms behind her back to watch the discussion progress.
