GA & One Sith

The not taking of hits is a systemic problem across much of SWRP, and contributes greatly to the animosity that swells with invasions.

It should be noted that I've long had the policy, where invasions are concerned, if folks in my faction are called out for not taking appropriate hits or blatantly god-modding by folks or the other FA team, I will give the point over to the other side regardless of whether or not the fight was resolved as such. I don't believe in rewarding such activity. Hits don't need to all be lethal or horrible disfiguring. Bruises, cracked ribs, and broken weapons are perfectly valid ways to take a hit. If NPCs are around, or if you're fleeting, then their deaths / destruction also count towards taking hits.

I think the Jedi Order is lame for withdrawing from Republic affairs when they were needed the most.
As a newer member I can see how you'd think it would be lame, but there's been a lot of IC history behind this. It was a long time coming.

Lasedri and Ali Hadrix and the subsequent lack of consequences were the knife in the back that broke the camel's spine.

[member="Xan"] - I'm just getting settled in... They don't exactly label things 'round here rightly, so I think I'm either in visitors quarters, or some sort of trans-dimensional portal room that leads to anywhere in the universe... OR the Janitors Closet... Not sure...

Beer is on the list though.

I can give my opinions on the Republic, but no one asked, and there is a hefty amount of dislike for me ICly, and OOCly, so not sure how useful it is.

[member="Ryan Korr"] Okay, I'm killing the narrative that the Republic isn't holding anyone accountable. Again, Lasedri is gone, and Hadrix is no longer in any capacity to command forces. All private assets have been returned, and reparations have been paid out for losses incurred. There's a good chance that Hadrix will be court-marshalled and relieved from duty at the minimum. She's not getting away from this scot free, her reputation is totally ruined within the GR if it wasn't already.

And why do you keep going on about war crimes? I'm assuming you're referencing real world laws on the subject, but civilian casualties are allowed as collateral damage. In a conflict, you have to prove that civilians were intentionally targeted for there to be a war crime. All those times Hadrix's lines were copy pasta'd throughout the thread, there was never any evidence presented that she did intentionally target civilians in venting the hangars. What she did do was take a risk assessment, determining that the chance of killing some civilians was worth it for the greater good of protecting the entire population of Roche against a group of invaders that are easily incensed into hostilities from some just some verbal sparring. Let's not forget that the Mandalorians were the belligerents here. That action was to stop the Mandalorian soldiers, and it should be noted that she considered they could still survive the action since many of them wear hard suits that can help them survive the vacuum of space. I think it was in poor judgement in attempting to evacuate civilians while a battle was underway. If Hadrix is ever brought before a tribunal, then any sensible judge looking at this situation objectively would acquit her. If we're going to start lowering the bar for war crimes to include the reasonable expectation of collateral damage, then I'm sure we can drag some Mandalorians to that same tribunal for any offensive operations conducted within population centers.

I addressed it before in this thread, that the GR working on reforms at this moment, but it'll take some time to enact changes. I wish TJO would acknowledge our efforts and help us out. I understand the appeal of vigilantism, though.

I respect your wish to try and fix the Republic as so many others have tried before you. But you realize that writing an essay like that only serves to make people skeptical about your wish to repair the Republic in the first place?

The people who constantly try and lead that faction have a large, large history of trying to skew public discourse and situations to their version of things.

They never take responsibility. They always lay the blame on others.

Don't do that. If you don't agree with someone's assessment of a situation, don't write a huge essay on 'Why They Are Wrong', instead... just show them they are wrong through actual actions.

My two cents.

This is my final test for my apprentice, they get told they have seek out an opponent and have a duel. If they take hits I knight them, if they don't I don't.

Guys, for the first time in forever, the Republic have a couple people who combine the following traits:

Desire to make change
Not a dick
Smarter than the average bear
In a leadership role
Main character instead of second-string alt
Not burned out

You know how long it's been since that happened? I'm thinking Aleidis.

Now, I invented 'res publica delenda est' and I play Ember Rekali and so forth. So take it from me: let's lay off a little and give the new crew the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they'll be the first ones in forever to actually make the Republic worthwhile, and I'd applaud them if they did.

[member="Darell Irani"] Here's my points in bullet form for easier reading:
*Cool new Chancellor and Senate that is actually taking care of business. RL time constraints mean that changes take time to implement ICily. Please view the Senate subforum within the GR.

*Lasedri is recognized as a traitor, and Hadrix is about to receive the boot. Everyone got their stuff back with extra credits on top.

*The Mandalorians don't have a case for war crimes. You must prove intent to target civilians, and they can't. That little recording they kept passing around only serves to weaken their claims.

*The Mandalorians are in the wrong about even being at Roche in the first place. The GA and TJO must have agreed on that fact to lend aid to the GR.

*Hadrix has a strong chance of being acquitted (there is no case), which is a decision that some people have already stated they won't accept. This will lead to the GSS being delegitimized as a forum for intergalactic discourse, all over personal agendas. On the other hand, a court-marshal is pretty much a slam dunk, and will serve to forever remove Hadrix from power.

*The assessment of bodies like TJO is based off faulty information. Instead of jumping the gun and trying to jump in bed with the GA, they should have exercised more patience with the new GR administration. The only Jedi I can recall actually opening a dialogue with us only did so to declare that they're coming to get Hadrix if things don't happen the way they want. Very Jedi-like.

---------

Now, I'm trying to be constructive here. I haven't blamed anyone for what Hadrix or Lasedri did. All I'm saying is that Mandalorians and the Republic messed up. I'm just trying to get them to meet us halfway here. Which is why I'm talking to a representative of their leading council at the moment. If I had it my way, then I'd have Hadrix locked away in a hole somewhere. ICily, I detest her. Many people in the GR do for a myriad of reasons. As with everyone else, Roche was the last straw. (OOCily I'm having a blast as a writer.) However, as Senator and a citizen of the Galactic Republic, I must work through a framework of laws to see justice served. I don't get to be a stateless crusader who can cherry pick her causes. I have to work with the good and the bad to make something decent out of it. Politics.

I dare you to say they taste the same
Let the leaves fall off in the summer
And let December glow in flames

Erase myself and let go
Start it over again in Mexico
These friends, they don't love you
They just love the hotel suites, now

I don't care what you think as long as it's about me
The best of us can find happiness in misery

Oh take a chance, let your body get a tolerance
I'm not a chance, put a heat wave in your pants
Pull a breath like another cigarette
Pawnshop heart trading up (trading up)

On the oracle in my chest,
Let the guitar scream like a fascist
Sweat it out, shut your mouth
free love on the streets but
in the alley it ain't that cheap, now

I don't care what you think as long as it's about me
The best of us can find happiness in misery

Caveat: most of this is IC angst. This is how Korr feels. OOC, do what you want, lol.

I respect what you're trying to do with the Republic, but you've got a long way to go to repair the damage your forebearers did.

Ali Hadrix is still free. Keira Ticon is still free. Promises are made of air.

Until they become reality, the Jedi will not be supporting the Republic. Mantic can play sycophant with his offshoot J.O. I don't care.

As for war crimes, I won't play the game of how many dead civilians it takes for their deaths to be 'acceptable' collateral damage. 10? 100? 1,000? Keep calculating lives away. So easy. Just a few nameless numbers punched into a computation.

Nor will I accept accusations that TJO "jumped the gun" when the barrel was shoved down our throats while the Republic's better angels looked the other way.

One righteous person in Sodom and Gomorrah won't stop it from burning.

I have been raving about these two points in Skype chats for weeks now. I am in entire and whole hearted agreement.

The Mandalorians invaded Sovereign Republic territory. They did not try for diplomacy, they did not try to go through their own treaties or the Republic laws to solve their goals(Which I dont even know what they were), they invaded. Now personally I think that's fine, you want to invade? Do it. They're Mandalorians you have a proud warrior culture, but to claim on any level at all that they're the "good guys"? That absolutely laughable especially since they had several Sith aiding them during the invasion.

As for Ali's whole thing? Yeah it was wrong. Yeah my own character would find it abhorrent, but to argue it as a war crime is rather difficult. This can be reflected in the real world when you look at drone strikes in the middle east. Obama, by ordering these drone strikes, as probably killed thousands of people by now, but would he be held accountable for War Crimes? Some people would say yes, others would argue no because its in defense of "national security". The difference here is that the "national security" defense had a very real and immediate impact, since you know...the action got rid of a good portion of the invading force that likely would have went on to kill several hundred more civilians(whether on purpose or on accident during the fighting). It's a massive gray area and I hate that everyone is harping on it like it's the end of the world because the truth is, war is poodooty, these things happen, and have happened a hundred times before in OS VS GR.
