We need more Galactic Republic writers at Objective C.

I'm the only one there, as it stands, with a handful of allies.

Things are going as well as to be expected.

Congrats [member=Taeli Raaf], btw!
Well I guess I've delayed my commitment to the Republic with Julyet long enough. I'm on my way, sugarlips! Can I get an invite to that Skype [member="Gir Quee"] mentioned to coordinate my entrance?

I haven't been here in the past. I'm here now. And I'm suggesting it's a change that would improve the integrity of the voting process. I'll be frank, when all the current FAs vote for a single candidate in a public election, it's not hard to see why that candidates wins.

That can happen with any person, too. If someone saw my Aimone account voting for Selena (which I did, you can see that in the results, it's no secret), they might decide to vote for Selena because I did. Or vote for someone else because of that, too, perhaps because they felt like any choice of mine was a poor choice.

When there are this few people voting, little things can sway votes like this.

This vote is done now, I'm not suggesting we re-do it. I'm suggesting a future vote should be anonymous.
Keep in mind there's also 600 people in this group and only a handful of them voted. If the FA's are the ones most interested in running the show, then they'll be running the show, one way or another, until other interested parties get involved.

To be fair, there are 600 characters, and multiple characters were strictly prohibited from voting. That also doesn't account for all the inactive players/characters there are.

If I had to ballpark how many active players we have in the GR, I'd say more like 50-70. And with a voter turnout of 31, that's roughly half the active population, which is pretty damn good for a fictional organization on an Internet message board.

However, your last statement is quite true. Until more people get interested in steering the ship, the people in power are always going to have more sway, for better or worse.

Neither of us can ballpark anything.

My point was there are invariably more people total in the group than active members. Never be surprised when the most interested are the most involved.

This seems to be a non-issue to me. My voting choice was made quite simply: I'd heard of Taeli Raaf, and hadn't heard of anyone else.

That's right, [member=Taeli Raaf], you got my vote by coming up in conversation at one point in my time here. lol

[member="Gir Quee"] I do! My ID is thebluempress. I should come up as Trainer Blue.

The cute Vong people with their armor and biotech. It will be fun turning it against them in time. Is there somewhere I can go to check out our current armament list?

Edit: Nvm, found it.

If there were technical limitations, then perhaps the forum platform shouldn't be used for these votes in the future.
This also seems like something important enough for the site admin to be asked to step in to read votes and names to check on duplicates.

Basically, technology shouldn't halt the integrity of the democratic process.

Site admins have a lot on their plate, it wouldn't really be fair of us to ask them to step into a faction vote and even if we did, I'm not sure they would. My experience is that they like to see factions operating effectively without their having to step in and when they do it is typically because a rule of some sort has been broken (again, this is my experience of it). Now, perhaps there is a way to make it anonymous without blocking the FAs/FLs ability to police it that we simply don't know about. If so, prior to another vote we can certainly (and I say we....but it won't be me very soon ;) ) look into it.

I think they are keeping IC leadership as it is, it would make little sense for Taeli to magically become Grandmaster or Prime Minister/Supreme Chancellor/Chief of state/ what ever else

I vote for whoever I feel I know best and whoever I believe would be best for the faction, from past experience. To say, I didn't vote for the successful candidate because I don't know her from a hole in the wall, but it is my intention to rectify that, posthaste. :)

This is the way things go. We vote for whoever best checks our personal boxes of 1) who we know best and like and 2) who we feel would be best for the faction. At times, the person that is best for the faction isn't someone we know or personally like, and we have the maturity to swallow what we need to swallow and make the right choice.

Just because all of the former administration voted for the successful candidate doesn't mean there was collaboration - rather, I'm well aware that Taeli Raaf is the one they know best and have the most confidence in. She has been the most present, the most consistent and available out of all those nominated. Visibility matters.

And don't forget the sheer number of other people outside of the less than five former administrators that voted for Taeli as well. The people have spoken. Support your new OOC leadership as they become accustomed to their roles. Don't make unneeded and unwanted trouble for them. They will be trying to do what is best for this faction.

And if they're doing it for any other reason than that, then it'll become very quickly apparent. Such things have a habit of coming back to bite you in the ass.

At least that's my experience.

Again, congratulations to our new Faction Owner. May your term be well and free of grief! :)
