Getting started

[member="Jairdain"]

"Well things can't alwaysbe easy Jairdain." Dagos said using her name like she asked as he stood up from his seat and walked around the table to stand next to her.

He reached his hand out t help her from her seat. "Let's start by getting out of this stuffy room. A nice walk out in the fresh air will clear our minds and guide us on our path."

Dagos was sure getting out and doing away with the formality of things would be beneficial, besides you never knew what you could run into on and around the grounds of the temple.

She couldn't help but chuckle a little. He seemed wiser than others of his age. Taking his hand he offered to help her up, they stood side by side for a moment before turn to head for the door.

"Have to be careful out there. Sometimes dragons like to feast on us little people."

Degos might not actually believe her, but not too long she and another apprentice had come across a dragon while camping. She had also picked up a mewvor kitten which she had kept in her room while introducing herself to Degos.

"Do you mind if we swing by my quarters before leaving?"

"Outside of the temple, it's always nicer to have company. Even inside, with the classes held and sometimes to have a practice spar...I mean you can easily spar with yourself."

Jairdain was elated he accepted her request to be his master and was pretty much just babbling as she lead him to her room where her cloak and kitten were.

Opening the door, the little cat tried to jump up on her which Jairdain caught mid-flight and hugged close. The cat let out a little squeak of protest and tried to get away. Taking a firm grip on the not as small kitten as when it was found, she held her up for Dagos to take a look at.

"This little beasty was found out in the forest nearby. I'd hate to have run into her family."

Setting the kitten down, it would appear to be stalking Jairdain's ankles as she moved around to pick up her cloak and put it on. She grabbed a leash to take the cat outside.

Hooking it onto a collar, Jairdain nodded to her apprentice.

"Do you need anything?"

It did not take them very long to reach Jairdain's quaters as she did not stay too far from the vacant room Dagos had been using to study. When she opened the door a small furry blur lept at her only to be caught by the deft hands of the Jedi knight.

"This little beasty was found out in the forest nearby. I'd hate to have run into her family." She told him as she held the kitten out for him to examine.

Dagos watched the little beast stalk Jairdain as she moved through the room with a smile. The critter reminded him of Teyral cubs from home. They were adorable but even at this early stage you could see the hunter they would grow to be, and if this little guy was going to grow into anything like a Teyral, well he just hoped Jairdain knew what she was getting in to.

"Do you need anything?" She asked once she had finished collecting her things.

"No, thank you. I'm alright." he told her. "So what is this little guys name? And what exacly is it?" He asked her.

With the medium sized kitten on her leash looking up at Degos curious, Jairdain nodded as he answered her question. When he asked what the cat's name was and what type, she looked down in its direction with a small and soft smile.

"Her name is Tao and she is what is called a mewvor. They are native wild cats here."

When on that camping trip, she had tamed a dragon, but only after it had bit her companion. On the way back to their camp, a trap she had set to catch dinner ended up catching this kitten.

"She's actually quite tame. There's a skill called Beast Trick. With it you can tame animals down."

Wondering if they could also be used for battle it was never something she tried or ever really wanted to.

"Are you familiar with the grounds here then?"

"Not intimately, no." He told her. He had been around a little but hadn't done much exploring, choosing instead to spend most of his time sitting around feeling sorry for himself.

"Will you be teaching me beast trick?" Dagos had always been good with the animals back home using his gift in the force to help him tame their herd animals and the like but formal training in the skill could be nothing but beneficial.

Jairdain nodded as they left her room behind and turned to the commons area with the exit to the grounds around the temple. The kitten kept up with them, but tried to pull away and chase after some of the others around them.

"I've been out a few times and like them. Once you get off the grounds though, you never know what you'll find."

Smiling down in the direction of kitten, she tugged back on her leash and brought Tao to heal again.

"Some day she'll make a proper protector. Still learning and quite curious."

Dagos asked if she would teach him Beast Trick and she nodded before speaking.

"If we find a wild animal we can try. Most of the ones on the grounds though are already pretty tame or used to us being around them."

Reaching the area to exit the temple, she reached down and picked up the kitten who of course objected, but settled down to be carried out. Once outside and away from the worst traffic, Jairdain set the kitten back down which looked up at her with bruised ego type look and started cleaning herself.

"Let's go that way first."

Motioning with her head the direction she intended for them to walk. It had the most serene and quiet areas she could think of on the grounds.

"I've been out a few times and like them. Once you get off the grounds though, you never know what you'll find." She told him as they walked through the temple with the young cat on their heels playing the entire time.

"Sounds like a blast." He told her. Dagos had spent the entirety of his pre-Jedi life living in the wilds of Haruun Kal so he was very comfortable with the idea of spending sometime outdoors, infact he wasn't sure why he hadn't spent more time off the temple grounds.

"If we find a wild animal we can try. Most of the ones on the grounds though are already pretty tame or used to us being around them." She said after he inquired about learning beast trick.

"No worries, Jairdain, there will be plenty of time for all of that. Getting to know each other is more important than finding pets right now, I think." He responded as he followed her to what appeared to be a secluded part of the grounds.

Guiding them through the grounds, the little cat tried to catch a butterfly or two and appeared to stalk Dagos' ankles a few times. She never pounced at him though. The area was serene and had less people around as Jairdain progressed farther away from the temple.

He commented about the taming thing and getting to know one another before acquiring a pet to be more important.

"Is there anything you would like to know about me outside of training, Dagos?"

Bending over to pick the now lagging kitten, Tao fell asleep pretty quickly in the comfortable hold of the Knight.

"Is there anything you would like to know about me outside of training, Dagos?"

"Uh, yeah." He said forgetting that getting to know each other would mean actually getting to know each other. He wasn't super comfortable asking others personal questions, which was probably due to that fact that he had things of his own that he wanted to keep to himself.

"If you don't mind me asking, which planet did you call home before this?"

"Did you like it their?" He offered after she named her home planet. "Do you ever regret leaving?"

Even though the area was in an area with less traffic, it still provided benches to sit on. Jairdain found one of them and sat down with the kitten. She was almost getting too big to be a lap cat now and ended up next to the young Knight.

Her question appeared to surprise Dagos and make him uncomfortable and she wondered at that. He did come up with a few questions though and she motioned for him to join her if he hadn't already.

"My home was a planet called Eraton. Yes, it was where I grew up and the only life I knew until some sort of plague came along. Non force users got ill, sick and some died. The ones that could use the Force weren't effected and the council there decided to banish us. They blamed us for the plague."

As she spoke, Jairdain pet her cat and appeared to be looking forward.

"Oh no, if I hadn't left, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you I don't think. When I was banished, they forced me to leave the planet. Luckily they provided me with a ship. As I was near to leaving the system, what looked like a flash of light in the Force came and destroyed Eraton or all the life that was on it. I didn't go back and check."

Talking of her past and her thoughts on it, didn't bother her at all and he should be able to tell she was open about it.

"What about you?"

The way Jairdain spoke about the events of her leaving her home world and the events there after left Dagos close to stunned. It wasn't exactly a casual tone but there was a certain ease with which she talked about her past that he knew he did not possess and probaby never would. His leaving was no more difficult than hers probably in the grand scheme much less so but it was obvious why she was a knight and he was not. She had a strength and a self belief that he did not come close to yet having.

"Jairdain. Just wow." He was not sure what to say about her story. It was crazy to him that someone could go through such an ordeal and still give an aura of such calm assurance.

"I was born on Haruun Kal." He told her. "And yeah, I do miss it sometimes. No, more than sometimes, I miss home often but as you can tell I haven't left to go back." The thought had crossed his mind several times but when it did he thought back to a conversation he had with Connor about abandoning his new family and how he had sworn to himself that he would never do that.

Dagos did not expand very much on his past, there was much he held back, things what were in time sure to come out once the pair got to know each other more.

Even though Jairdain accepted her past and what happened, there were times she missed the community of her people. Their food, celebrations and lifestyle, even the clothes they wore. She didn't remember the last time she had done anything from her culture now that she thought about it. Maybe she should start again.

"Eraton was a low tech planet and had only really just started space travel. We actually didn't know about the sith or jedi. Wasn't even in the galaxy and nobody has ever heard of Eraton. And the Force wasn't called that."

Turning now to face Dagos, she listened to what he said about himself.

"What is it like there? Mine had nature still, like here. It wasn't a sprawling city planet or anything close to that."

Dagos thought for a moment on how to best describe Haruun Kal.

"Home, well home was a lot like Voss here but no temple, just jungle. There was space travel but only at the Palek Bal, the capital. Everything else was wild. Wild and dark and beautiful."

Dagos had missed home especially when he spent so much time in the temple. He would often take walks through the temple gardens just to get that wistful feeling of being back on Haruun Kal, taking a walk through the trees, hunting for food to help feed his people, being nine and playing hide and seek with Ragos. Dagos liked the gardens.

"I'd like to get back there one day." He said.

"So, Master," He said playfully. "You know already what things I've been trained in or at least learned the basics in and where I grew up. What's next?"

Their homes were basically the same, though Jairdain didn't think there were jungles on her planet.

"My own home has been destroyed or at least the life there, but you already know that. Maybe someday we could make a visit to your home."

Moving on from the personal topics, Dagos asked what she had in mind for teaching him.

"Well, my skills are more mentally based rather than physical. Meditation is where I start and would like to teach you a few skills while meditating. It's quieter here and more natural. Tao here should be worn out enough that she'll sleep through anything."

Petting the kitten that was sleeping soundly next to her as she spoke her name.

"Sounds great!" he told her through an excited smile. For quite some time Dagos had been focused more on physical skills but he knew that was only one part of being a Jedi. He also knew he was behind in almost all his training so anything now was helpful.

"What's first?" He asked eagerly.

The tone of voice Jairdain heard from Dagos made her smile. He sounded excited about the meditation and exercises she could teach him.

"Well, first just a basic meditation."

Even though Jairdain could now see, she closed her eyes out of habit more than anything and listened to her heart. Once she was in tune with that, reached out to feel the Force as it flowed around them.

She hoped Dagos would get the idea and join in meditating.

Jairdain closed her eyes and began to meditate. Dagos could nearly immediately feel the difference in the way the force moved around her. Her aura which was already very calm and still became even more so. It was Gochii lake on a windless day, so clear and still it could be mistaken for a pane of glass.

Dagos closed his eyes and began to focus. His heart rate matching hers, he tried to find her in the force, to follow her and take his first steps toward becoming a real Jedi.

[member="Jairdain"]

Jairdain felt when Dagos went into meditation next to her. The feeling in the Force flowing through and around them matched up and they were moving almost as one. Their pulses matching and the rates almost the same, the calm connection between them stabilized.

She felt a little time was needed for him to get a feel for her and waited several minutes before reaching out to him through the force. Telepathy was something she felt was needed by any Jedi and would try to teach him this.

Are you able to hear me, Dagos?
