Kay frowned and sat down on the floor, drawing her knees up to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. It wasn't long before the door opened, and in came 'Doctor Thraxis'. He sat down on a chair that appeared out of nowhere, interlocking his fingers as he rested his elbows on his knees, studying her with that caring look in his eyes. For most that might provide a bit of comfort in a scary place, but for her, it brought chills.
"Now, Miss Kay...You've been sent back. I don't think that you're as cured as you thought."
Kay clenched her jaw. She was never sick, it was just some twisted game. Wasn't it? "They said that I had demons to face. So...are you my demon?"
Doctor Thraxis shook his head with a disappointed sigh. "No, Miss Kay. You are your own demon. How many times must you make yourself suffer? How many times does he have to die?"
Kay looked up at him. "You mean Shaw?"
"His death is your excuse for everything. You find ways to connect it to whatever happens to you, whether it's bad or good, and hold yourself back. So I ask you again, Miss Kay. How many times does he have to die?"
"But I can't help it. What happened to Gray was almost like what haplened to Shaw. What am I supposed to do? Just forget about it and move on? Just let the evil continue and let Masq win?"
"He already did win, Miss Kay. Do you see yourself living? Shaw sacrificed himself so that you can live. Not so that you could wallow in self-pity and fear being around anyone. Do you call that living? Masq hasn't been seen in over a decade and yet you let him control every aspect of your life."
Kay frowned. She looked away from him. "I still do good things..."
"What's the point of doing anything if you don't allow yourself to enjoy it? Think about it, Miss Kay. Either wallow in here in your own personal prison...or...get up, free yourself from your shackles and walk out that door. The choice is yours..."
Doctor Thraxis disappeared. Kay looked to the door, but didn't get up. At one point, Masq had changed his appearance to that of Shaw and tricked her into kissing and embracing him, just in time for Shaw to walk in and see them on the couch. It was a nasty trick and Kay felt guilty about being tricked into being disloyal. So she had remained loyal to his memory and kept everyone away.
Maybe now it was time to change..
