"I am not scared of losing!" Zaiya quipped back, staring up at him as he led her into a twirl only to be drawn back in again.

"A bet it is!" He was teasing her, Zaiya knew it. And he was having fun with it too, something that Zaiya didn't have to resonate with him to realize it. It was in the mischievous glint in his eyes, the way that he held her and danced perfectly like any royal Prince would, as if making a point of it all. But more importantly, it was in the way he looked at her.

The sort of way that made her realize if she focused too much on it, she just might trip and step on his toes!

She could not have him use that grin on her to make her knees weak! Another flutter of determination darkened her mottled spots with citrine and cobalt bioluminescence, as if the vibrancy and brilliance of her color shifting were an armor she was using to block off Aris's charm.

"And I just might,"
Zaiya added, although she really didn't. It would only be fun if Aris was willing to go along with it, as she certainly didn't want to make him do something he wouldn't be comfortable with.

"Maybe I'll have you follow me around carrying all my belongings for day. Use that strength of yours for whatever I might need," she teased, the soft fabric of her dress whispering delicately against her legs as she followed his lead. So far so good, the heels hadn't betrayed her yet!

Mahsa Mahsa

When Aris had first asked Ayhan to go to this 'ball', Ayhan had...flat out refused. Unsurprisingly. At least he didn't ask why they would go to a ball instead of kick one. He'd learned some things in the last few years. But, after a bit more pestering and with the promise of food, Ayhan had finally folded, and agreed.

That really only left one problem. What in the hell was he supposed to wear?

Luckily, Aris had thought of just about everything, it seemed. It turned out that there was still some of his old formal clothing left in his closet, and so, Ayhan was able to borrow that.

He'd wanted to complain about it, as he did with most 'modern' things but...the Epicanthix attire truly felt right. It was soft, and flowed easily. It still allowed him to move and fight if need be. And, though Ayhan had never thought to much upon it until now (having only ever worn rags or a Jedi's robes before), it looked good on him.

He hadn't thanked Aris. At least, not verbally. But a grateful nod as they'd left the dorm to go to the ball, a bit after the girls had left, had been delivered.

Of course, that didn't stop Aris from promptly abandoning him, leaving poor Ayhan to fend for himself near the food table. Like that was enough to make him feel comfortable in the sea of people that surrounded him. He didn't have enough eyes to watch everyone, and with the music, so loud, he could only hear so much before the rest was drowned out.

To make matters worse, Ayhan couldn't recognize anyone in the crowd. He'd lost sight of Aris, had yet to see Zaiya-

But there was Mahsa.

Ayhan almost stepped towards her before he restrained himself, fighting against his fight or flight response harder than before. He was stuck, wide-eyed with fear, staring at Mahsa, who he hadn't seen in weeks, didn't want to see now, and next to food he couldn't even enjoy.

This was the last time he was letting Aris talk him into anything.

"You should come visit sometime. I bet you look good without a dress."

Now it was her turn to blush and fluster. "Yeah?" she almost squeaked. At a loss for witty words, she raised her glass to her lips, hoping for liquid courage. What she got was a sip of something sour, totally unexpected after such a sweet opening. "Phew."

"Zaathru, huh? What's it like?"

Again she was reluctant, breaking eye contact for a moment as she considered what to tell him of her homeworld. "Barbaric, and beautiful," she said at last. "But I guess that could describe any planet in this galaxy, and Zaathru isn't really like any other planet." She inclined her head, her smile faint but still present. "It's hard to describe."

"Padawan to the Chief Healer. Sheesh, that's impressive. You must have great bedside manner, then." He swirled his drink and glanced at her again as she took a half-step closer. He studied her eyes. "You lookin' forward to Knighthood?"

"Heh." She shrugged. "I dunno. Seems to me it's just another passing of the seasons. Like a birthday. Or maybe more like getting a diploma. Now you can say 'Hey, I'm a Knight!' and people have to take you more seriously." It was a cynical view, maybe, but it was the truth. She didn't care what they called her, just as long as she could keep fighting the Sith.

He was also a Padawan, though he seemed even less eager to discuss it than she was. Instead, he had a much better proposition in mind.

"Hey, before you're a big Knight and too important for me, would you maybe wanna dance?"

"Hell yeah dude!" She took a final long swig of her drink before setting the glass down on a nearby table. "Let's go!" She reached for his hand and headed out onto the dance floor.

She had spotted Aris Noble Aris Noble and Zaiya Ceti Zaiya Ceti first, the shimmering hues across the Lovalla’s skin serving as a beacon amidst the sea of people. She had smiled upon noticing them, the pair currently dancing in the ballroom, and the golden hues that shimmered in her hair showed how happy she felt seeing them having a good time.

The fiery design of Azurine Varek Azurine Varek ’s dress had caught her attention as she’d looked to the balcony above, barely managing to sneak in a wave in her direction. Little by little she felt herself settle down, the familiar faces here and there among the crowd helping ease her nerves—until her gaze fell on the back of someone Mahsa would never mistake for anyone else.

Amber and coral hues quickly drowned the merry yellows in her curls, she hadn’t thought Ayhan would actually come to the gala tonight! Mahsa had half a mind to use the moment to step back behind a pillar, but any thoughts of hiding evaporated once the Firronthix turned and she got a better look at his face.

His gaze looked lost and disoriented at first, his eyes jumping from one random object to the next until they’d finally landed on her tinier form. For a moment the hesitation was almost palpable between them, both rooted to their respective spots as they seemed to war against their own thoughts, before that wide-eyed stare finally spurred her into action.

"A-Ayhan…!" Her voice faltered as she called out to him, her steps highlighted by the rapid echo of her heels against the floor as she closed the distance between them. "What—H-How—When did you get here?"

This wasn’t the type of event she’d ever thought he’d enjoy, and she’d clearly been right to think so given the current state of the Firronthix. She remembered the first time Master Jigora had brought her to a similar one; the music had felt especially loud to her sensitive ears and she had felt adrift among a sea of unknown faces, unable to keep up with everything happening around them.

It had been enough to paralyze the young Kazelrrian back then, and all of it was perfectly mirrored in Ayhan now.

"F-Follow me…!" A hand reached for a glass of something, anything really, just as her other grabbed onto Ayhan’s own. She pointedly ignored the thrumming in her eardrums as her eyes scanned the room, finally spotting an archway to an outside balcony that was currently unoccupied by others.

Her tugging left no room for protest as she led them towards it, the cooling night breeze whipping her tresses and the ruffled tail of her dress as the loud music and chatter of the ballroom slowly faded into the background…

"A prince, his knight's pack mule?"

He mocked indignation before smirking wide and confident as ever. Was that all she'd ask for? That'd certainly be easy enough in his mind anyway. Another twirl, full arm extended before he spun her right back in. The song wasn't going to last much longer for this first round between them to see who'd step on the toe of the other first, but there'd be other chances.

Aris spun with her one last time as the music came to an end and let his gaze finally shift from Zaiya. To focus on Ayhan. Mahsa. Good. She'd picked up on him being there. He hummed in thought, letting Zaiya's waist go but still holding her hand without thinking much about it as he watched Mahsa surprisingly start trying to pull Ayhan along.

"I hope they finally realize their feelings for each other."

She listened to it as well as the others. "A Shadow Temple.." She let it hang in the air and grinned to herself while sitting there. "Interesting." She was guessing at a few things for it and what he might do. "Depending on what you want we can customize much of the temple and the learning for you. So far our dimensional archives has improved and continued to expand with holocron and older temples. There is also the choushin and Arisen for the temples to connect them." She heard the talk from Amani aorund a stationed group og jedi and she spoke. "THey need not be entirely stationed we have developd the means to travel quickly and some of the best in terms of strike forces or fleets."

Jax was drinking again.

Truth be told this gathering amongst Jedi and other Force Sensitives almost felt like a pity party. With the Galactic Alliance losing ground to the Dark Empire, the people were desperate to look for a scapegoat. Of course, because the Jedi were the ones leading the charge against the Dark Side they would be blamed. Though Jax personally would've told them that the Jedi gave their lives (In Jax's case: Literally) for the Alliance, he presumed that the council said it as well. Once again, the Jedi were in a pickle but Jax had faith in the Force that things would be fine.

Still, that didn't ease the niggling sense of anxiety that was forming inside of the Jedi Master, so he went to the bar and resumed doing his favorite pastime: Alcohol. Jax remained in the bar, observing the dancers on the floor. Jairdain Jairdain would've loved this, he wished he bought her here, but she was out in the Galaxy doing her thing, while Jax was left bored out of his mind. This was almost as painfully bland as the time he was assigned to watch over Alderaan. No one to dance with and no one to talk to. BB-8 was back in Jax's apartment eating all of his food and partying. Maybe should've join him.

"Why the hell am I even here?" Jax said to himself taking a sip of Beer.

Cora pinched the bridge of her nose with her thumb and forefinger. Wasn't this supposed to be a conference where Jedi from different order mingled? What sort of impression were they going to leave?

"Next time, I bid you to wear something nice. A dress or a suit, or even a clean pair of robes."

Lifting her head, Cora's disgruntled gaze drifted from Iris out to the crowd, tilted in the direction the healer had been looking earlier. Again, she laid eyes on Zaiya and Aris.

"They make a good couple, don't they?"

Noticing her grin and mention of “The Shadow Temple”, Caltin knew Matsu well enough to know that she was wanting to giggle at the name. Which was of course fine, it did lead itself to some level of humor in its self description at times. Then she mentioned a few things. A “Dimensional Archive” could be beneficial, especially in the realm of them being found.

I like these ideas so far, I know we are going to need better security as while there are always active “cloaks” going on, right now we need active Jedi performing them. I would like that to change in order for security to be improved keeping the atmosphere the way that I want it to be.

That was a concern of his, as the recent planetary incursion of the Nightsister “Pendragon” had him wanting to ensure that if there were a repeat that any invaders would not get closer. What about your “simulators”, I remember there being one that you showed me… he trailed off in his words as Chrysa came up and whispered something in his ear. He smiled and nodded as she kissed him on the cheek and took her leave.

My wife would like another dance before the conference begins, if you don’t mind, I would like to return to this in a moment? He then stood and excused himself for a few moments to go down to the dancefloor and make his wife happy with a few of the slower songs before returning to the conference and sitting back down a little happier by the looks of him. He waited until she was free of other conversation to speak again.

... where was I? Oh yes, simulators. A lot of the physical side of the exercises are done outside, but I would like a couple of simulators for that. I also seem that one you showed me…

She didn't notice Ayhan at first. That was fine by him. Was it? Nothing was okay. This place was too loud. But Hera did keep telling him to try and socialize. Did she know how quickly he fell apart at these things? No, Firronthix don't just crumble. He didn't just crumble. Least of all not at a 'social function'. He fought Sith and Mandalorians, and all kinds of monsters in the Cage. He still wanted to just crawl into a hole away from all this noise. Lights.

"A-Ayhan…!" The familiar voice brought Ayhan back to some half-consciousness as he continued to stare at Mahsa. His eyes had been glued to her this whole time in fact, the only familiar thing in this crowded room. "What—H-How—When did you get here?" the girl asked as she approached. Ayhan closed the distance for her, stood close as his eyes looked around them in a manner Mahsa was all too familiar with. Searching for threats. Though, the fear and anxiety that flickered in his eyes was entirely new.

Suddenly she was pulling him through the crowd, outside, to crisp, clean air. To the forest scents which now seemed too comfortable compared to what they'd once meant. Too much of the Cage or not enough, Ayhan could not decide. Nonetheless, Ayhan let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding as he leaned over the balcony's rails and tried to not hyperventilate.

A half smirk perked over Zaiya's lips at Aris's mock affront that a royal should be the pack mule for his knight.

"Oh, we wouldn't want to tarnish His Highness's reputation, now would we?" Zaiya quipped mid-spin, just before Aris pulled her back, bringing the playful banter to an end.

"I've got the rest of the night to come up with something interesting!" Zaiya teased, her eyes sparkling with mischief, as she executed a curtsy that would surely win the approval of Knight Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania .

Straightening, the Lovalla turned her gaze towards where Aris's attention panned to. That's when she saw Mahsa Mahsa and Ayhan Ayhan , the former of whom was presently dragging the latter away from the buffet tables towards one of the exits.

"Oh... I didn't realize Ayhan was coming." Zaiya murmured, only to return her gaze to Aris at his quiet revelation. Ayhan's unexpected presence at the event was a surprise to everyone, especially given his history with attending such gatherings.

"Ah, you've noticed it too?" She began just as the next soft melody of a faster-stepped song began to play across the ballroom.

"I told him years ago that it is easy to tell her he cares about her, but then he said caring for her is a liability based on his past. I tried to explain that caring for someone and ensuring they are safe and okay isn't a liability... " she felt Aris draw her in again, moving in step for the new song.

Thinking back on it made her blush a bit, realizing how Ayhan responded after that. It still perplexed her, but then again, looking back, a lot was going on with Ayhan, and perhaps it made sense for him to respond so.

Simulators... Oh yes the memory of that did bring a grin when she nodded. "Oh yes those are still in use but we have external ones. Made for altering entire areas of a temple. It makes security as well as training easier." She said it as he was there. "Additional security depends on what you want to present. We have guardian ddroid crafted from solarite metal, systems to turn the temple itself into a defender if need be, biots that protect both visibly and deceptively, many jedi with our latest iriyas allowing them to come from anywhere in the universe. There is also the jedi fleets based on needs from faster strikers to heavy mandalorian knights aided shocktroopers."

He’d met her at the last couple of steps, his stance close and protective as his eyes gazed out towards the crowd—looking for unknown dangers that weren’t there. It had been their song and dance for many years, and perhaps one neither of them would truly ever forget, though the muddled anxiousness that fogged his gaze had never been there before.

Glints of copper mixed into the deep ambers shimmering through her hair, the grip on his hand tightening as she sought to offer some form of comfort, before realizing the empty balcony was the temporary getaway they both needed from this place.

A small part of her had been worried he’d resist when she tugged his right hand, the memory of Jakku always at the forefront of her thoughts—impossible to forget given the shiny cybernetic left arm that Ayhan now possessed. He hadn’t, something she was eternally grateful of, and when the crisp night air hit them Ayhan wasn’t the only one that took a deep inhale of it.

There was an emptiness now where his hand had once been, the Kazelrrian having let go of him as he’d sought the support of the railing instead. Her skin still tingled from their shared contact, fingers curling together as if to preserve the lasting trace just a moment longer, before she took a swig of the glass she’d randomly picked from the table on their way.

It was meant for him but… surely he wouldn’t notice, right?

Mingled with the familiar fruity flavor was a familiar burn, though it felt stronger than the one she could remember from the Crystal Rose. "H-here, drink this—" The wine glass was tilted in his direction as an offering, before her voice caught just as her free hand paused a mere inch away from his back as she took in the very Epicanthix attire he currently wore.

Aris. The answer to her unspoken questions came quickly as she withdrew her left hand, even as the other continued to hold the glass out for Ayhan to take. "... It’ll h-help you feel better."

The metal of his hand clicked against the stone railing as Ayhan took deep breaths, willing his heart rate to a normal speed. It thrummed in his ears, mingling with the bass and the drums still audible from within the ballroom. The Firronthix squeezed his eyes shut, trying to drown it all out. And still, a voice cut through the dark. "H-here, drink this—It'll h-help you feel better."

Ayhan turned and took the glass with little more than a glance before swallowing its contents quickly, barely noting the fruity flavor or the subtle burn beneath it. His arm wound back as if to send the glass hurling into the night, but he paused mid-throw, thinking better of it. Instead, a shaking hand set the glass down on the railing and he took another deep breath. "How do you do it?" Ayhan asked with a trembling voice. He looked over his shoulder, "How does none of this bother you?"

Chief Ironside prepared a path before Valery as she and Kahlil strode forth as the powerful couple that they were, yet despite their professional relationship clung to one another like young lovers, even in public. It was an outward display of affection he was unaccustomed to, for in the military even married officers are expected to act their rank above all, their affection kept in private. Or, perhaps the old Ranger, grizzled from too many bloodsoaked campaigns, had simply forgotten what it was to love someone.

Upon reaching this Roman character, Thirdas eyed the young man with a predatory stare, unflinching and unwavering. Despite the posh uniform and lack of face paint, the towering soldier remained the apex hunter forged on the anvil of war. He remained like this throughout the Nobles' interaction with the padawan, looming over him with his arms crossed over his wide chest.

Until the moment he seized to introduce himself, at which point he extended his arm, its complex network of servos masked by interlocking metal plates humming with the motion. His gaze remained fixed on the young man, though it had become less predatory and more humane in nature.

"Thirdas," his offer of a handshake stood. "Son of Thurion," he added, thinking the name would not mean anything to the frazzled padawan.

j4NTbit.png

Her breath hitched when Ayhan wound his arm back, the crystalline glass sparking against the moonlight, before a relieved exhale escaped Mahsa as the Firronthix seemed to think better of it and set it down onto the railing instead. Those looked rather expensive, and she didn’t want to even think about how much one of them could set back her paltry savings—

"How do you do it?" His voice cut through those thoughts, the usual bite behind it replaced by a tremble she’d never heard from Ayhan but had little trouble recognizing—often held in her own voice. "How does none of this bother you?"

The subtle coral streaks in her hair quietly shifted to vibrant coppers once more, a visible contrast against the deep ambers that continued to reign, even as her lips pressed into a thin line. "W-Who says it doesn’t…?" The words took some effort to find before she finally responded, and her fingers had already found the hem of her sleeves—quietly picking at it in an effort to keep her senses grounded to the here and now instead of everything happening inside the ballroom.

She had thought about avoiding the event upon first learning of it, uncertain that someone like her could actually enjoy it. The Crystal Rose, despite having a smaller and curated guest list, had still felt overwhelming… but she had eventually come to enjoy herself as the night had progressed, largely thanks to Zaiya Ceti Zaiya Ceti ‘s presence and encouragement.

"It’s a bit e-easier if there’s someone with you." The lesson had taken some time for her to learn, and at first Mahsa had been unsure as to why her own master encouraged her to spend time with others so often.

At first she had thought the Echani might’ve found her burdensome, but with each interaction—lightly forced as some had been—the Kazelrrian had slowly come out of her shell more and more. It had led her to meet those she now considered close friends, and the exposure to teaching methods that differed greatly from Ioti’s had also helped Mahsa gain a better understanding of the Force… but she hadn’t realized the full extent of her master’s approach until now.

A year or so ago she would’ve been no different from Ayhan, overwhelmed and confused… Her gaze shifted towards his left arm as the metal glinted against the moonlight, a reminder of the last time she had failed to be the support Ayhan needed her to be.

"It also helps to f-focus on just one thing at a t-time," She forced herself to ignore the rapid heartbeats hammering against her chest, determined to keep herself together despite the swirling thoughts inside her mind. "L-Like the scent of the forest, or the l-light against the glass…?"

She was determined to support the Firronthix this time around, even if it was just for one night…

"You sure don't seem bothered," Ayhan said with a tired scoff, beginning to feel very fatigued. He leaned into the curve of the railing, letting himself take some of the weight off his feet as the adrenaline began to wear off. Metal scraped against stone, accompanied by a faint crackling sound as Ayhan cursed his own perceived weakness.

"It's a bit e-easier if there's someone with you." The Firronthix blew air through his teeth, turning and looking past Mahsa and through the portal behind her to ballroom, eyes and ear searching for Aris. "It also helps to f-focus on just one thing at a t-time," back pressed to the cool railing, he somehow slid down it, until he was sitting on the ground, a tired, blank stare, straight ahead. "L-Like the scent of the forest, or the l-light against the glass…?"

Ayhan squeezed his eyes shut, drew his legs up and pressed the heels of his palms against into his eyes. There was too much to focus on. It wasn't so easy to just narrow in on one thing. Not with so many things, and people, and ways to die. Did none of them wonder what would happen if a bomb went off in here? Or if someone grabbed a dinner knife and lunged. It'd be too late before even a Jedi could react.

Did they just not care?

"You make it look so easy," the Firronthix said with a ragged, voice as his hand fell away and drooped between his legs.

She said yes.

Wait… she said yes? Actually, she said hell yeah dude. It was... enthusiastic. "Alright," he said with a small laugh. Diogo took Eloise's offered hand, letting her lead the way. He downed the rest of his drink and placed the empty glass on a serving droid's tray as it passed. A soft, melodic waltz was playing as they reached the dance floor. He could've sworn the air felt thick.

"Zaathru sounds unique. And beautiful," he said thoughtfully. The description reminded him of someone. He placed a gentle, but steady hand at her waist. "Do you ever get to visit?"

"Also, you're right about Knighthood—it's just a title," he admitted as they moved closer. "But, as lame as it sounds, I think milestones still matter. Havin' somethin' to look forward to so we don't lose ourselves in tomorrow's worries, y'know?" It was just as true for a Jedi as it was for an Anzat struggling with hunger. Possibly more-so. He kept that part to himself.

As Diogo stayed in sync (somewhat passably) with the music and his dancing partner, he felt his body loosen as the alcohol settled into his system. He drank in how Eloise's purple hair and green eyes shimmered in the warm light as she moved. "If it's any consolation, I won't take you any more seriously as a Knight," he said with a playful smile. "Unless you want me to."

His words surprised her, a hand quietly reaching up to tug some of the curls of her hair within view. The color she found was expected to herself, a deep amber with streaks of copper—now joined by a handful of citrine highlights from her bemusement. Is that truly how she looked to others… to him?

"I g-guess…?" It was true that most lacked the proper hearing to pick up the rapid beating inside her chest, pointedly ignoring the thrumming that buzzed in her ears as she focused on the FIrronthix instead. She’d also gotten better at keeping her own emotions reeled in and contained, though the success of it hadn’t extended to the vibrant hues that colored her hair.

He was sitting on the floor now; back pressed to the intricate design carved into stone that adorned the rails, legs drawn close, and the heel of his palms pressed into the socket of his eyes. The exhaustion that wrapped about him was almost palpable, though she couldn’t understand where it all stemmed from.

Sure, the music was a bit loud—especially to those with sensitive ears like themselves—and the chatter of multiple conversations happening at the same time could be daunting, but was that really all there was to it? Little did she know of the various scenarios playing inside the Firronthix’s mind, his worries and concerns worlds apart from her own… even if the end result was still the same.

"You make it look so easy." She had stepped around before crouching down beside him, the ruffled tail of her dress mirroring the shape of the crescent moon above as it circled them both. The gears churned and turned in her head as she tried to find the right words to say, coming up empty time and time again.

"It’s n-not…" Her voice escaped in a quiet whisper. How could she explain something that Ayhan couldn’t feel—

The answer hit her like a freight train, though she hesitated to act on it. Should she even try it considering Ayhan’s current state? Then again, maybe it could help distract him from whatever else was currently plaguing his senses? The possibility alone tempted the Kazelrrian to take the quiet gamble, hoping that the small privacy afforded to them in the balcony would be to their benefit if her choice backfired on them.

A soft exhale escaped her as a hand tentatively extended towards him, her touch fleeting like a butterfly as her palm barely touched the tanned skin of his forearm. She allowed the mental barriers to partially dissolve, channeling the emotions that slowly poured out through their shared contact.

It was a motley mixture, unbalanced parts of anxious and jittery nerves that clashed strongly against the deeply rooted worry and concern she felt about the Firronthix...

BzmJact.png

Not really wanting to make this all about him, Caltin nodded and smiled at her recollection, as well as ideas about what could be done. However he did not want the “kid” in him to simply say “yes” to everything. It would not necessarily be feasible, especially with the fact that he wanted to keep the facility “small” in nature. He needed to be realistic about what was possible. He needed to think carefully about the potential benefits and drawbacks of implementing her ideas. He also needed to consider the potential costs.

If you are willing to stop by and take a look around, maybe it would be a better way to come up with a plan? I definitely want to see about putting in a couple of simulators, but maybe since you have more experience in the “day to day” you could help me figure out the best security methods? We are using “cloaks” as well as technology to “hide in plain sight” but I have had too many possible incursions recently.

Only two of them, but to him that was two too many. Caltin did not want this to be like a prison, he wanted it to be and stay “relaxed”, but that would take some work. He knew what he wanted, just not entirely sure about how to go about getting it done.
