Rules Update Hot New General Rule Just Dropped

12. Violence depicted or discussed should not exceed that which is depicted in the Star Wars genre.

Staff has begged like 5x for a new "violence" rule since I axed the PG-13 and honestly they're kinda right. Ya'll occasionally ask for the Wild West but had no idea we've lived in the "violence" paradise for like the last year. Literally had no bar set for it.

Well, I wrote this one really quickly after I was asked for it, and upon looking at it more and more, I kinda like it.

Have fun rules lawyering it.

This is probably a stupid question, but what happens when someone writes something to the level of what's seen in the Blackwing stories, and someone unfamiliar with those stories reports it because they think it violates this rule? I worry about false reports.

I like the rule, though. It's simple.

To clarify, does this mean no blood or anything as I think the only blood in star wars is the odd blood stained outfit. At least that I can think of. I think nearly all of the battle threads I have read would fall foul of this?

I would point out that there is blood in Star Wars. Even in A New Hope, you see an arm removed and the blood from that

Just don't write anything that you wouldn't see in legends or canon in terms of violence. =) I mean that is alot to work with tbh.

Caelan Valoren Caelan Valoren they may happen, probably will at some point, but we could also be prepared too with canon and legend sources saved. I mean a report isn't a immediate judgement of guilt. Ime there is a process and it works out.

Yeah. I think what I'm trying to say is that while I support the common sense approach, that approach also kind of relies on people having the same knowledge of the source material, and we can see by some of the replies in this thread that we don't have that. A little more verbiage might avoid false reports altogether (I'm trying to help staff not have to deal with unnecessary reports!!!).

It does not. Literally just ask yourself "could I tell this part of the story at a party and not look deranged?" If the answer is yes, you're most likely good. If your answer is no, don't write it. If your answer is "Yes, but my friends have an edgy and dark sense of humor" then assume you are in better company.

Truthfully the most graphic scenes from the zombie books, even some of the body horror you can get with the vong is fairly tame. Even without a massive knowledge of the books, movies, shows and comics as we do have some writers who just watched the movies or the movies and shows. Shouldn't be too much. Though some of those older Legends books did much odder things then violence. (Jaina in Dark Nest vs Jaina in New Jedi Order)

This explanation made me giggle :)

Just going to quote this and then comment on the continuing discussion around it.

If you’re ever in doubt of whether something crosses the line or not, we have Role-Play Judges and a report button. When something gets reported it becomes the responsibility of Site Staff to determine if it violates the rules.

That‘s where the debate of whether it does or doesn’t ends.

Caelan Valoren Caelan Valoren what Judah Lesan Judah Lesan said is a good way to go about dealing with a new rule and the rules in general when it comes to Chaos.
