Hoth's Quarry

The explosion from Revy's grenade was blinding, there needed to be drastic measures to fight off the soldiers and the Whitefangs. The sheer numbers were overwhelming, these temporary solutions would only buy them so much time. Kaine was drained from the attack he unleashed on Jayce earlier. Kai's eyes observed the three acquaintances he was fighting along side with. All of them seemed to on their last limbs, the waves of enemies kept up the their attacks. At their current rate they wouldn't survive through the night.

A ferocious bite broke his concentration, the viscous fangs sunk into Kaine's shoulder as the feline pulled him onto his back. Pained rippled through his body. The impact knocked his lash right out of his hand. Kaine arched his head back seeing the beast trying to hold him down. It stared at him like a slab of meat, hunger presented in it's eyes as they peered at Kaine. He sent his fingers directly into the beasts eyes. The tiger like creature roared and momentarily released it's grip. Kaine ripped his shoulder out from the animal's clutches, the fangs sliced him as he rolled away, quickly turning to face the beast. "heh, first thing to catch me of guard today is a cat, hope you have nine lives." The cat charged and leaped into the air. Kaine used the force to pull his weapon back to his hands. The whip landed securely in his hands as he red aura once again engulfed the blades. A quick attack sent the cracker (tip of the whip) straight at the whitefangs skull, slicing right through the creature. It's remains landed at his feet. Kaine realized they had less time than he had initially predicted.

The scene before him was complete chaos, more and more of these creatures infesting the mines it would only be a matter of time until everyone was dead and they once again prowled the mine as their own. Kaine looked to Jayce and Eran hoping they would be able to help him with his scheme. "The only way to take on all of these enemies is too trigger the rest of the explosive that trace the ceiling of the mine." Kaine pointed to Revy as he had hoped she would have a few more thermal detonators as this would prove crucial to plan. "Revy, I need you to throw everything you got at the wall to the east, it's the only wall that boarders the outside. It's our only hopes for escaping this mess." Kaine holstered his whip and started channeling force lighting in both of his hands. "I know we are tired but I need you two to send force lighting towards the ceiling, I am not sure where the bombs are and we won't have much time to execute this plan before we are attacked." Kaine was running through different statistics in his head, these were numbers he was not going to share as this plan was risky. Kaine could attempted to make his escape during the ruckus, but something about his encounters today made him consider options that saved everyone. Perhaps making possible allies would be worth the risk. Either this quarry would collapse on them or they would make their escape either way the fight ends now. He fired shoved his palms into the air as he sent his force lighting straight up. Hoping the plan would unfold the way he had hoped.

Every enemy that stood in his way, was soon pieces of meat on the ground. These men probably did many horrible things in their lives, maybe they didn't, but it was either them or Jayce. Standing in front of thirty men was scary to him. His left arm hung there like a meat hook. It was useless for the rest of this battle. The blood splattered on the ground, soon making a small puddle. Gang members from both the Tundra Wolves and Sledgers lined up for their shot at him. It was getting uglier by the second. Jumping into the air, he spun, the violet blade slicing many of the weak soldiers lose their heads. The illumination of the blade was the last thing their eyes saw. Ten fell but were soon replaced by fifteen more, like a hydra, they were unrelenting. Each swing increased and block only made Jayce grow more tired. Whitefangs were soon called upon to finish what their masters could not, their fangs shinning with lavender as they approached the Gray Jedi. The teeth of the loyal beasts ripped into his leg, a knife from a dying gangster struck his back.

I will not die here!

Jayce launched a force wave into everything that surrounded him. It was all gone, his energy had left him, leaving the young man on his knees. All those who were thrown asunder, began to get back up with blood-lust in their pupils. The Whitefang growled and sneered as its pawns drew it closer. Furious and wild, these beasts would be the death of him if he didn't act soon. The animal charged at him, blood from Jayce's leg sliding from its teeth, and lunged straight for his face. Holding his blade in front of him, the creature's face collided with it, the body separated into two pieces. Two huge chunks landed on both his left and right side. Jayce sat back, huffing and buffing.

"I know we are tired but I need you two to send force lighting towards the ceiling, I am not sure where the bombs are and we won't have much time to execute this plan before we are attacked."

Kain's voice reached out to Jayce, leaving him discouraged. Looking to the ceiling, he tried to muster up the strength to release his Electric Judgement.

<Jayce stop! If you do this, it will start to cause serious injure to your body!> the Kyber crystal pleading with the young man. Its usual dull voice seeming more concerned.

"We'll die anyways. Just a little more, that's all I need." Attaching his saber to his belt, he started to raise his hand to the sky. His fingertips began to glow with ebony light. Sparks crackled through the air as the lightning shot up and scratched across the roof. Pain splintered through his mind and body. Jayce gazed at Levi, hoping his force lightning might pull more of the weight. If he didn't, they were doomed.

The battle was taking its toll on all of them, as Eran feared it would. The men kept pouring into the tunnel like vermin, there was no end to them, not to mention the whitefangs that had entered the fray. Mines never seem to go well for me. The irony was thick, having died in a mine before, he was not going to let history repeat itself. Just then one of the whitefangs gripped his right leg. The sharp pain struck the instant it sunk its teeth in. Eran viciously swung his lightsaber down and severed the creatures head from its body. Blood poured from both of the creatures halves. Eran reached down and removed the head from his leg, the fangs still stuck deep in his flesh. The wound was deep, the fangs reached farther than he thought they would. The pain seared through his entire leg with even the slightest movement. Things would only get worse the more they fought, they needed an advantage to exploit.

"The only way to take on all of these enemies is too trigger the rest of the explosive that trace the ceiling of the mine."

Kaine had come up with a plan, a risky one, but the only other option was dying here. He had to have faith in Revy to break the eastern wall in time to escape. He put away his lightsaber, concealing it as a cane once more, he raised his hands to ceiling of the mine and began to channel force lightning. There was a problem though, Eran's energy was low, the long night of fighting was apparent now more than ever. Eran tried to will more power into his attack, but little came of it. He was just too tired, and soon he would have to relinquish control back to Levi to avoid an extended blackout. If either of those happened, he was as good as dead.

Eran had an idea, a last hope for survival. He closed his eyes and started to control his breathing. He blocked out the chaos that swirled around him in the tunnel. If he was to succeed, he needed complete concentration of the force. His mind was clear of everything except his goal to escape. He called upon the force to empower him, but nothing happened. Eran didn't understand, this should've worked, the force should've started to flow through him to grant him strength. Why isn't this working? I should feel stronger by now, but nothing has changed. Then he heard it, laughter, it filled his mind. Eran knew the laugh, it was his former master, Eonar. As the laugh rang through his head, he felt rattled. His mind began to fill with doubt, the irony had become a reality. Eonar was laughing at him as he was about to die in a mine once more. Eran tried once more to call on the force to help him in his dire situation, again nothing came to him. The laughter in his mind stopped abrubtly, it was replaced by only one line, one that Eonar had told him long ago. "A weak man asks for power, a strong man takes it."

The words hit Eran like a slap across the face, they were words he had always lived by, they were the reason he strode for the power he sought. In this moment though he had abandoned them, looked to the force for guidance, as if it would imbue him with superpowers. Eran was upset at his ignorance, having turned to a such a weak tactic. He opened his eyes and allowed the reality of his situation to impact him. His force lightning was still trying to explode the charges on the top of the mine, but now he changed his tactic. He called upon not the force but his rage, he felt it working, his attack was becoming stronger. His mind was racing, allowing him to feel all his anger, towards the soldiers, the whitefangs, and most importantly his need for revenge. The lighting was now surging with energy, shooting long bolts in many directions.

"I WILL NOT DIE DOWN HERE." Eran yelled as his power flowed, then almost as if everything else went silent, the sounds of beeping filled the tunnel, then the bombs went off.

Her elbow bent, smashing into the visor of the first assailant that made contact with her as she charged through the horde of enemies. Beast or humanoid, it mattered little to her as she launched a few more bullets into their skulls. Blood continued to be spilled, keeping up such exertion in her condition could have meant death. Something needed to happen and fast. A loud explosion shook her resolve as a heavy gauntlet from one of the Sledgers sank into her gut. The loud sound made her go deaf, Revy's eyes shifting to Kaine as she quickly broke the filthy criminal's arm.

Kaine was yelling, but the high pitch ring in her head continued. The explosion nearby made communicating difficult. She jumped, flipping backwards, sending another two shots at the beasts that came for her again. Her body arched perfectly as she soared through the air. Revy could finally hear, the loud yelp from the two Whitfangs made it apparent. Looking around she realized she would soon be surrounded.

Then, the sound of crackles reached her, the smell of plasma reaching her senses. Force Lightning tore through the entire room, unleashing its power from the three force users. All of them seemed ot be aiming for the ceiling. Revy knew what had to happen. Another loud explosion from above sounded. Her objective became clear, her two grenades capable of doing the job.

The East Wall...

Revy ran, dodging and ducking through the haze of war. Launching both grenades with all she could muster. Two giant explosions ripped through the mine, the wall caving in. Blowing her and most of the filth backwards. She yelled out in pain, falling unconscious as she flew through the air, her pistols, somehow; tightly clenched from the nerves she no longer had control over.

Pitch black and silence was now her home...

Debris fell as he was sprinting towards the east corridor, his only escape was now made possible by this woman who sacrificed herself for the squad. Something seemed familiar about her as she collapsed. Kaine glanced, watching everyone doing as he had commanded, they all trusted him, and normally this would be their own undoing. The realization that he needed their help was enough for him to spare him from their inevitable fate. Kaine dodged the shards of earth that fell from above. His energy was almost fully exhausted, this was it he needed to act now before it was too late. He channeled the force through his right palm, with a familiar sensation he released a powerful force push sending Eran and Jayce through the opening Revy had created. There was rubble behind her that kept Kai from pushing her through. Rocks started falling right towards her. Kaine channeled the last of his energy to increase his speed drastically, force speed allowed him to accelerate fast enough to grab Revy, the edge of the debris grazed his arm, in her unconscious state she could not help herself, and at this point Kaine wasn't sure he was able to save them either. It was hard to keep dodging the random barriers that were falling from the explosions. The sheer amount of rubble increased drastically as the mine was sure to be completely engulfed. One last burst of sheer will he himself and Revy through a thin sheet of shale that blocked their escape.

The frigid arctic air engulfed his lungs as Kai gasped. He lifted himself up from the snow, the sun blinded him as the it reflected off of the tundra. He picked himself up to see Revy, Jayce and Eran, the dust settled and they all survived. Kaine's hand instinctively reached behind him, putting his mind at ease as he felt the tome safely on his back. He was the first to arise as they had all pushed their bodies to the brink. He staggered as he tried to balance himself. He could see the the tents of the marketplace from where this whole venture initially started. The mine was sending off black smoke, it would not be long before people come to explore and save these three, but Kai needed to leave before someone else came for his prize.

"Jayce learn to control yourself, using powers above your ability may lead to more harm." He looked to Eran next, as he made his way through the line up. "Maybe if our paths cross again, we can start off with a truce and see how it goes." Kaine smirked at the idea of them terrorizing people. Lastly was Revy, this battle harden smuggler who he remembered hearing about, his grin grew as he told the tale. "Revy, when you wake up, make sure you let Shepard know we are even, guy kept rambling on about this gal as he proceeded to pull me from a sticky situation...tell him the debt is paid." Remembering that horrific day made him laugh as both times he encountered one of those famous duo they had weapons aimed at his face. Oh the Irony. Kaine turned from his new acquaintances as he headed back towards the shuttle, it was time he delved deeper into this grimiore and uncovered it's secrets.

The room began to shake with a thunderous fury. The lightning triggered every explosive detonated and erupted, causing each side to collapse on the wannabee soldiers. Men began to scream as their way of life had suddenly ended with a boom. Large shards of debris crashed upon everyone who stood to the north, south and west side of the fortress. Jayce watched as the gangsters tried to escape, failing and dying. He felt the sensation of the force lift his body. Kaine had force pushed Jayce and Levi into the eastern tunnel, avoiding the calamity happening in the arena. The entrance caved in, trapping all life on the other side, leaving the four newly found allies alive.

Laying in the tunnel, Jayce felt Kaine approach him. The sorcerer spoke of control and using powers above Jayce's comprehension that might be a bad idea. The Gray Jedi knew what he had brought to the battle wasn't himself. He needed more training, before he was consumed by the darkside. Jayce looked to Kaine and thanked him for saving his life, passing out right after. It was sometime before the young man woke up again. He found himself in a bacta tank, his body bouncing around the large tube filled with blue liquid. A doctor looked at him, locking eyes with Jayce and smiling. Hearing the muffled voice, the doctor said, "You're lucky to be alive lad. You will be fixed up quickly. Only three hours left." Still smiling, the doctor proceeded to another pod, checking on whoever was inside.

The next morning, Jayce left the planet of Hoth. He wished to never see the miserable ice ball again. As he entered the atmosphere, booting up the navigation system on the Raptor's Claw, his mind soon thought about Kaine, Levi and Revy. Wondering if he would ever see any of them again, he smirked and continued on his path. The battle in the mine wasn't a long one, but an important experience for the Gray Jedi. The life lesson he encountered there, taught him that he still needed more training. He still needed to become stronger if he wished to create the perfect balance in his vessel. Fear would grip him, if he lost control again. He vowed to not lose himself to the darkside, training in both sides and adapting the abilities that befit him. His true test, was to finish the steps towards knighthood. Only then, will he have a better understanding of the force, and a better understanding of himself.

It's time to start a new route. I will become the embodiment of the force. This... I vow to myself.

Eran lay there in the snow, he was exhausted from all the fighting over the course of the night. Kaine had force pushed him and Jayce out of the tunnel to safety, before going back to get Revy, who had been knocked unconscious while blowing up the eastern wall. Kaine was the first to arise out of the four of them. He spoke to them all seperately. When he came to Eran, he entertained the idea of them working together. Eran held back a small laugh at the thought and responded telepathically.

<Next time we meet, I just hope its above ground, I've had enough mines for two lifetimes.>

Eran heard Kaine start to leave, and figured it would be best if he started to leave also. He stood up, his leg had stopped bleeding but the wounds were still prominent from the whitefangs attack. Eran noticed that both Jayce and Revy were now both out cold. Eran looked around, and to his surprise, there was a landspeeder located nearby. He used what little strength he had left and hoisted both of his newfound allies into the back. The drive back wasn't long, and as soon as he arrived, he found what served as the villages hospital. Once inside, he explained that the two in the speeder with him had been injured in a mine explosion and would need medical attention right away. As they were rushed past him in stretchers, Eran decided it was time to relax, it had been a long night, and he was sure that those two would be okay. He gave Levi control over his body, so that he could rest for a while.

Levi opened his eyes, he was unsure where he was, the last thing he remember was being in a mine. People were being taken away on stretchers, he recognized them, it was the man and woman he had been with in the mine with, the ones who had tried to kill him. Levi was approached by a woman who looked to be a nurse of some sort, she asked him if he knew the names of the two people he had brought in, for medical records.

"I have no idea who they are, and you say that I brought them in?"

The nurse seemed confused at Levi's question, she told him that he had just shown up with those two, and had said something about a mine explosion. Levi was baffled, to say the least. Why don't I remember any of this? Is it possible that my body still runs when I black out from my seizures, how can that be? Levi was starting to get worried, he had apparently lost a whole night in his blackout. He decided not to dwell on it further though, from what he could tell, whatever had happened, he had survived. For starting the night being nearly beaten to death, it had turned out alright. He left the hospital and trudged back through the village towards the spaceport, flipping through his small book, looking for something he wished to learn, and a new destination.

It was pitch black, the images of the darkside still presented themselves deep in Revy's mind. Lost to the the world around her, she was brought to a med center. Her wounds had been treated and the probes that swirled around for the past forty-eight hours had done well to keep her wounds from resurfacing. The blood that she had lost was surprisingly minimal. None of that mattered, horrors continued to tassel within her dream-like state. Shaking and screaming in her sleep she finally woke. The tiny beeps of the monitored machine next to the bed churned. Logistics popping up to indicate her status of health.

Revy's eyes slid from one end to the other, trying to figure out what had happened. besides the nightmare, a flash of dirt and crumbling rock infested her mind.

An Explosion?

Sitting up she took in a deep breath, ripping the wires around her arms free. A chair held her clothes neatly folded. Revy grabbed them as she stood and changed. Staying in a med center was the last place she wanted to be. She hated the smell, the cleanliness, and the bright lights. It was one of the worst places in the world to end up in. All she wanted was her ship.

Quickly heading for the door, she slipped her hand into her pocket. A small piece of paper, indicating her belongings from where she came from. Reaching the desk, she asked the kind lady behind the window where to go for her things. Revy Nodded, her purple hair fluttering through the air as she turned. The exit was narrow and as she stepped out into the cold air, she was greeted with her ship. The med center had been close to the landing pad, but before she could embark on her next journey, she needed to find out what was in the armory. She slammed her hand into the big red button, doors swung open as cases were stacked high. A large crate with Revy's name on it caught her eye.

"Well let's see what I got."

Opening the crate, chunks of materials were hidden within. A small note was left.

Lork needed these, I saw you asking where I was, but I was coward and escaped before you found me. The credits are underneath. Tell Lork I'm alive and that I'm sorry.
Sincerely, Fren

Revy smiled, after all the hard work and injuries she sustained, it all paid off. Soon she would have a new arsenal and a happy client. She whistled a hangar man over and pointed to Lork's shop. A smile reached her lips.

I always get paid...

She leaned against the side of her ship as she watched the exchange in the distance. A new Carbonite Rifle was hers. Revy lit a cig, inhaling as the red cherry began to brighten. Once she got her payment, the White Raven would be gone and Hoth a distant memory.
