Hunting The Kings Revenge: (Free Colonies/Open)

The goons were dropping in their dozens. Julian turned and gazed on the events that unfurled. He was surprised, flabbergasted, even. They had unloaded a torrent of blaster fire, surely no one could have taken them all down. It didn't matter about skill. Throw enough bodies at something and you'll get results. That's how trench warfare worked, and the bloody Clone Wars solely existed using trench warfare. He had heard of entire phalanxes of clones charging hilltops against insurmountable odds. They had been shredded to pieces, of course, by the intense swarm of blaster bolts from droidekas. Though the story goes they had taken the hill by dusk.

A voice broke through the silence as the cover of smoke evaporated, "Hello again, Jul-" his eyes darted to the man, Kei, his mind didn't ponder, it only reacted, with cat-like reflexes his hands were already training in on his center mass. He was quick to the draw, fingers tapping the trigger half a dozen times, sending out a total of six bolts per heavy blaster, only to be returned by a single bolt from Kei. You didn't get in the Bounty Hunter business by being sloppy and easily folded, or slow to the draw. Nonetheless, he was still confused as to how this man, and another, had cleared out an entire palace of guards.

One shot. Two shots. Three. Five. James was taking them in rapid succession, as the others were. It was on turns but it certainly was race. Slow down and the alcohol would hit the blood stream too soon and you'd be karked. It was a matter of getting more in before it affected you. The winner was counted by the glasses in this bar.

Of course, for James, he would last so much longer than either of them. He had challenged them to a game he knew he couldn't lose. Again and again, drink after drink. The woman went down like a sack of bricks at eight. The man was trying so hard at ten, but he was slowing down. And it was clear.

"Ye know," drink, "Ye could," drink, "just fold," drink, "there be," drink, "no shame," drink, "in losing to me."

"Never," the man grunted in a heavy pant, his eyes were red and bloodshot as he stared, trying to get the will for the next shot.

James' forefinger pushed him onto the floor with ease, a top his female companion. James tossed his business card onto their sleeping forms and paid for the drinks.

Kei watched as Julian allowed his fingers to close around the triggers of his blaster, his own body responding. Kei ducked to the side, five bullets each streaking past him. One of them caught his shoulder, the sixth skimming him lightly. Kei growled, grabbing at his shoulder for a few seconds. The pain would numb, but he'd need to get it checked out once he got the chance. He dropped his hand again, gun at arms length.

He looked across the room at Julian, sighing. They were friends once, both men spent time together on a trip to Dromund-Kaas. Kei had helped start to build Julian's ship, crashing it later but starting to build it. He eyed his friend again, lowering his weapon. He could use it to his advantage, Julian would be the perfect ally in the robbery of a data chip. He would need to approach it perfectly, but it would be a great option.

"Julian, what's the Hutt paying you? Once I get my data chip back, the information on it will be worth much more than what the Hutt decides to pay you. Just think about it, yeah? I don't wanna hurt a friend, but you chose the wrong side in this one. Julian, it's your call, your call"

Kei stepped forward, blaster back at his side.

"I have no distance weapons," said Qaal. "So far they only follow. I say we let them follow, draw them to us. When they come close," he pounded a fist into an open palm. "Otherwise, we need to isolate them, keep them where they are, and eliminate one cell at a time."

"The Hutt ain't payin' me a dime, Kei," Julian said, but he kept his guard up, and the man was approaching him with his sidearm at his side. He took the initiative and holstered his sidearm, it was just the two of them now. The Palace had become dead quiet, and it was only a matter of time before the authorities came knocking. He walked towards Kei, hand extended to shake his.

His left hand swiped across his bandoleer, something round, shiny and metallic clattered against the floor. Then he jumped forward, hand shooting out at Kei's, trying to wrestle the blaster from him. The EMP would explode in no less than a second, and whatever hardware they had on them, blasters included, would become useless. Yet as the blast engulfed him harmlessly, his helmet didn't falter. EMP and Ion resistance. But his blasters were fried.

EMP grenades, Julian was smart, thinking ahead. His DL-44 would clatter across the room, useless now. It was a shame, he was a fan of that blaster, but it could be replaced. The Hutt gave a dry chuckle, a low, dry chuckle only a Hutt could give. Kei wasn't a hand to hand fighter, he was much better with his blaster at his side. T3-J8 would beep, rolling into the room. He was clear from the EMP blast, the doors keeping the blast from him.

T3 beeped once more, Kei attempting to push Julian away from him. Julian had chosen his side in the fight, Kei knew that perfectly. A guard would stroll over to T3, falling victim to the shock arm extending from the small droid. The utility droid would follow up, head blaster sliding from inside of him. He would use it once, a bullet dropping another guard strolling over to him.

T3 was thinking ahead, using his blaster to try and distract Julian. Kei would push against his friend, attempting as hard as he could to power the man up against a wall. Succeeding this, he would bring his knee up into the guy of Julian, attempt to cripple him out of the fight. Failing his push, Kei had a feeling that the fight was going to become a-lot more intense.

His head snapped to the astromech that strolled in, blasting a trio of guards. He knew what he was going to do was about to hurt, but he didn't have time to detach it and lob it. He wore two bandoleers so that he could carry the maximum amount of grenades and ammunition that he could. He was a Bounty Hunter, after all, and with the swipe of his hand he activated the second of three EMP grenades, the other grenades consisted of concussion and thermal.

The beep began and Kei shoved him against the wall. Then the air left his lungs and he gasped loudly, choking on trying to bring air in as it simultaneously left his body. With as much effort as he could, he brought his head back and snapped it forward, trying to headbutt Kei with the full force of his helmet. But he still needed a moment to catch his breath. He brought his elbows in just as the grenade exploded point blank, winding him again.

It did no lasting damage, but it had enough force at that proximity that it felt like he had just been kneed in the gut a second time. He sucked in breath as much as he could and tried to shove Kei that was pinning him against the wall, if successful he would follow up into a torrent of punches, blows intended for his ribcage. Break whatever fragile bones he could. He would thank The Mirage for teaching him shockboxing next time he met with them.

Finally, Filius could take no more. He had shot down a few more groups of guards, having dropped the long barrel and cumbersome scope of his rifle's sniper variant, turning it into a snub barreled carbine with a simple red dot sight. He could hear the sounds of a scuffle inside the throne room, and heard an EMP go off, but luckily the blast wasn't powerful enough to reach him on the other side of the door. When the second EMP went off, he couldn't take waiting any longer and burst through the door. He took the remaining guards straight through the chest, fired a few warning shots at the Hutt, then quickly replaced his magazine and trained his rifle on the two scuffling men.

"All right, that's enough!" he yelled, keeping his rifle at his shoulder, "Kei, we don't have time for this. Back away. And take off those bandoleers, whoever you are, or I will quickly, efficiently, and happily put a smoking hole straight through that fancy helmet of yours."

Now it was all on Kei. If he backed away, Filius would have a clear shot and the battle would be over. They would get the chip and get out. If he refused to back away and made this personal, Filius would either get the chip himself or take the shot anyway. It would be difficult to hit the man, seeing as Kei was between him and Filius, but that kind of shot was all in a days work for a master marksman like Filius.

Two punches.
Three punches.
Four?
Five?

He lost count. The pain shot up his sides, punch after punch connecting and bouncing away. Kei coughed lightly, his vision blurring over. Another punch, nothing feeling cracking or close to breaking yet. Kei fell backwards, hands at his sides as he connected with the ground. He blinked, shaking his head. The pain was bad, but he needed to get back into this fight. He rolled to the side, climbing up to his feet. The EMP wasn't great, the punches no better.

Six?
Seven?
Eight?

He eyed the sniper in the doorway. Filius would take the shot, Kei knew that. Kei wasn't sure if he was down for allowing Filius to kill Julian however. It was personal, personal from the moment the pilot sided with the Hutt. He grabbed his side lightly, shaking his head. The pain wasn't great, his side was on fire. He was on his feet by adrenaline alone, nothing else.

"The best part about me is I am not you.
I'm me, and I'm the fire marshal"

Nine?
Ten?
Eleven?

How many punches had connected, why did it hurt as much as it did? He stepped forward, eyes on Filius, shaking his head. He eyed Julian once more, weight transfer from his right foot to his left. Then he launched, body and arms reaching forward, going for the bandoleer around Julian's chest.

The yelling of the assassin momentarily distracted him, he was about to do as ordered. He was a Bounty Hunter, but he wasn't suicidal. Heck, it was in the tenets of the Guild. You cut your losses if you were going to lose, it was better to fight another day than to never fight again. Then he saw Kei give the assassin a shake of the head. So this kid wanted to tango. Hombre a hombre. He shook his fists, his knuckles were aching something fierce. If he kept it up without proper gloves he was going to bust a bone.

Then Kei was upon him before he could react. He reached for his bandoleer and gripped it tight. Julian didn't try and swipe his hands away from it. He embraced it, as Kei was close, Julian reached for his head, attempting to curl his hands around his skull and use it as leverage. If successful in holding his head, Valentine would bring his head back and launch forward, delivering a vicious downward-diagonal headbutt that was mean't to split the skin open on Kei's forehead and break his nose. The impact would only be made worsened by the metal plating of Valentines helm.

'Darn it you blasted hothead,' Filius thought as Kei shook his head for him not to take the shot. They didn't have time for this.

'Remember the mission,' the brainwashed side of his mind said, 'He's made his choice.' Filius had been hired to retrieve a chip, and that is exactly what he was going to do. He was an assassin, not a frontline fighter. He would grab the chip, kill the Hutt, and then, if Kei was still alive, he would help him. Without lowering his rifle, Filius turned towards the Hutt, aiming the blazing red dot square at the Hutt's skull. The Hutt's eyes filled with fear as Filius pulled the trigger and sent a high powered blaster bolt right between his eyes. The target eliminated, Filius hurried up to his dais and rummaged around until finally locating the priceless chip. He rushed back across the room, past the struggling men, he handed the chip to Kei's droid.

"Get this the heck out of here!" he yelled to the droid. Leaving the precious cargo with a droid he hoped would understand what he was saying, Filius turned back to see the hunter leaning back to head butt Kei. In an instant Filius had his rifle trained on the hunter's head. If Kei collapsed, he would have a perfect shot.

(OOC: Don't know if this counts, but assume if Kei collapses that Filius fires.)
