Into The Wild

Carliah Dakrone

Walking the Path to Redemption
Lilythe pulled her cloak tighter around her as she trekked through the snow, Tenebrae following close behind her with a small bundle containing her things tied to his back. She tried not to think about the town she was leaving behind. She was useless to them now. Her near-mortal wound still pained her and she could barely draw her bow because of it. What use was she as the town's law keeper if she couldn't protect them?

Arthur's face flashed across her mind and she almost turned around. He would probably miss her, but he'd get over the loss. She was heading back to the snowy cave she used to live in. It wasn't that far, she could see the frozen expanse of the lake ahead of her. Her old home was on the far side of it. Arthur knew where it was, if he really wanted too he could look for her there. She trudged onward, crossing the lake and clearing away the snow covering the mouth of the cave.

'Are you sure about this?' Tenebrae's voice rang through her mind as she worked to dig a path through the snow. She wanted to ignore him, but she knew the Hirion would continue to pester her if she didn't say something. "Yes I'm sure. They're better off without me," she growled back at him.

"What do you think you are doing?" His brow rose and he dropped into the snow as he looked at her as she dug a path into the snow with his arms crossed and eyebrow cocked a little bit. He had seen her leaving and was following her, hearing her words before he had appeared himself and looking at the Hirion for a moment before rolling his eyes at the wolf before returning them to Lilythe.

"Going back to my old life," she replied, ignoring him and continuing to work. Her old injury was beginning to pain her, but she bit her lip and pressed on. Once she got a big enough path dug out she ducked inside the cave. There was a bit of snow at the opening, but other than that it was pretty clear. She whistled and Tenebrae followed her inside. She untied the small bundle of mostly clothes and weapons from the wolf and set it down at the back of the cave. She leaned against the wall for a few minutes before slowly sliding down it and sitting on the ground. [member="Arthur David Hardrada"]

He ducked in and looked around, smiling and running his hand along the wall of the cave before sitting on the ground with her and looking at her. "Oh and why do you want to do that, that is no fun being alone and out here in the middle of no where. If you are so sick of this place you could have asked for a ride somewhere else, after all i am more than ready to grant such a request." He smiled at her, his offer clear as he sat there.

"I like being alone," she replied, reaching up to scratch Tenebrae behind the ears as the wolf sat beside her. She looked over at her best friend. He had come so far over the last few months, while all she managed to do was render herself useless due to her own stupidity. She growled slightly at her own thoughts, forgetting for a minute that Arthur was even present. She looked back out of the openning to her old shelter and watched as snow began falling again. Thankfully she had Tenebrae to keep her warm at night or she'd very well freeze out here. [member="Arthur David Hardrada"]

"Uh huh, guess that means you and i should leave Tenebrae, especially if shes going to be all mopey and sad like that." He grinned and stood to walk over and sit on the opposite side that Tenebrae was on and leaned against his friend. "You know, if Tenebrae wasn't here we would be alone in the middle of no where trapped in a cave with nothing but snow keeping us from being found." She would know he was teasing her, and oh how he loved to do that.

"Right..." Lilythe agreed, not really responding to the joke. She hadn't been the same ever since she got hurt. She had even stopped her old game of absent-mindedly throwing knives at a target carved into the wall of her cabin. Usually every time Arthur showed up she was doing this, trying to see how many times she could hit the center of the target. On one occassion, she had even sat there tossing knives backwards over her shoulder, and still hitting the center. Ever since her injury to her shoulder though, she hadn't been able to throw properly, use her bow, or wield a sword. It was like the only purpose she had ever had was taken from her. "Lilythe... i heard there was something that force users off planet can do, they can mend wounds... maybe we can fix yours." He was desperate now, he didn't want to see his friend like this any longer and she was a bit of a depression in his own eyes with her like this, he had to do something to help her and was offering her a ride off the planet and to another one, trying to find a way in which to help her become herself again.

"Only if you come with me... Put one of your useless advisors in charge for now," she mumbled, closing her eyes and leaning her head on his shoulder. She shivered slightly and Tenebrae moved so he was laying halfway in her lap. 'I get to come too right?' The wolf asked both of them. Tenebrae rarely left Lilythe's side, he was her oldest friend. They had known each other since they were both 'children'. She sighed softly, continuing to pet the large animal. "Ask Arthur." She replied, keeping her eyes closed. "Yes, he can come, he doesn't even need to ask as i figured he would already have done so. And as for leaving an adviser in charge, i guess i could, but if i return to find my planet back to the way it was when my father ruled. I get to blame you Lilythe." He smiled at her and stretched, arms and hands reaching out before his hands closed and one arm ran around Lilythe. "The old team, back together and going on adventures?"

"Oh no, nothing good ever happens when we go on adventures," she replied almost cheerfully. She blushed a bit when she felt his arm slip around her. Tenebrae's reaction was much more entertaining. The massive wolf jumped onto Arthur's lap and licked his face. 'Yay! I get to go! I've never been on a ship before! Is it fun! Is it? Is it?!' the now hyper wolf asked, wagging his tail enthusiastically. If wolves could smile, Tenebrae would definitely be smiling at Arthur. Lilythe couldn't help but laugh at the sight of them. He laughed and pushed the massive wolf, trying to get him off him. "Tenebrae, i love you man, but you are crushing me..." He smiled wide as he said that though, glancing at Lilythe and happy to see her laughing. His hands rested one on Tenebrae though, and the other on the arm of Lilythe, simply smiling wide and looking at her eyes.

Lilythe blushed a bit more as he looked at her, laughter slowly dying away into a cheerful smile. She had no idea why Arthur had this effect on her. She looked over at Tenebrae and gently shoved the wolf. "Hey, get off. You don't get to go anywhere if you crush him!" She scolded the wolf playfully as she continued to look back at Arthur. 'Fine... Stupid Inferetes. I'm not that heavy!' Tenebrae whined as he reluctantly got off of Arthur's lap. "Well you're certainly no lap dog!" Lilythe retorted with a smirk. [member="Arthur David Hardrada"]

"Don't worry there Tenebrae, you and i both know its because she wants to sit in my lap and is jealous of you." He smiled and was standing long before he would let her react to his words, smiling as he was already on the way out of the door and his hood drawn up around his head and smiling wide. His hands waved at the two of them, the signal to come along and letting his joke hang in the air and aimed at Lilythe.

Lilythe gasped and scrambled after him with Tenebrae hot on her heels. She scooped up a handful of snow and molded it into a ball which she proceed to throw at Arthur. "You're not funny you know!" She yelled at him, preparing to throw another snowball. She laughed a bit as she waited for a response, snow ball in hand and hood pulled up. She was almost back to her normal self. "I have no idea what you are talking about missy? Oh and dont blush too much, i might think you were actually embarrassed by things." Arthur smiled and dodged the first snowball, eyes turned over his shoulder as he ran out into the snow, a steady snowfall once more beginning though it was lighter than before and his eyes were light because of the moment.

Lilythe chased after him and tackled him into the snow. If the tackle was successful the two of them would roll across the ground in the snow eventually coming to a stop with Lilythe on the ground beneath Arthur. She blushed even more and mumbled, "What I'm not allowed to be embarrassed. You must just be convinced that I'm not a person." She stared up at him, her eyes lost in his as she blushed and waited for a reaction. Tenebrae was sitting in the snow a few feet away, watching them, but not wanting to intrude upon the 'moment'. He smiled, noticing how close they were and what this probably looked like as he looked at his friend who lay in the snow. His eyes were staring at hers and his breath was caught in his throat as he leaned closer, smiling a bit wider. His forehead touched her before his nose, then his nose followed and he closed his eyes and kissed her as they lay in the snow... (Then he sneezed, not removing it this time D: (

Lilythe blushed even more, but slowly her eyes closed and her arms wrapped around him as she returned the kiss, melting into Arthur's arms. Tenebrae turned his head to the side, giving them something that almost resembled privacy as the laid in the snow. Lilythe smiled once Arthur finally pulled away, ignoring the sneeze and continuing to stare up at him. She kept her arms around him as they continued to lay in the snow. Arthur was her best friend and she had been in love him for awhile now, having her affection returned made her happier than anything else. [member="Arthur David Hardrada"]

"So... that just happened..." He smiled and looked at her as she was obviously very happy, much happier than he had seen her in a long while and he could only stare at her face, and could only wonder what it was that was going on now, himself still over her and their faces still very close together as he watched her.
