"Ahhh... so tight..." she chuckled when his hug lifted her off the floor, but she loved it, really. That affection was exactly what she needed after three days of being without him. Of course, there hadn't been a doubt in her mind that he'd find a way to reach her, but sometimes emotions weren't all that rational.

She just wanted to be back with him and the kids at home.

"Well..." she smiled sheepishly and started removing the wrapping, "It's a bit bad, but I didn't want to worry you, so I kept myself calm and..." she frowned, and showed him an arm that wasn't broken at all. Instead, her skin had an almost purple tint to it, and her veins were really showing like she had just gone through a serious workout.

"I was hit by a poison dart in the side of my shoulder, and I don't know why, but I'm not able to cleanse it from my arm. It has been slowly spreading."

Kahlil_Div2.png

Poison?

Kahlil stared at the wound for a moment before looking back to her. Poison. That was spreading. That they couldn't stop. At least, he couldn't stop it. Amani probably could, but she wasn't anywhere close to this distant galaxy. He closed his eyes as he reached out to it. Touched her skin so he could at least.. Try something. Not that he knew any healing at all. Maybe he could at least slow it's progress.

".. We'll have to figure it out, I imagine. Good thing we're on their world for once."

"What if we don't figure it out?" Valery asked with a frown. "Love... it really hurts," she admitted, and finally, she stopped suppressing the pain, so he could feel it through their bond. It was going to take a lot more than that to take her down, and he definitely knew that, but this wasn't something to take lightly either.

Though, his hand touching her skin did seem to help a little, and it certainly made her smile.

"I doubt that they use dangerous poison darts, but have no antidote themselves in case of accidents. We just need to find it before it's... you know... too late." It was a little scary that the poison was spreading from her left arm — what would happen if it reached her heart?

"That said, we've defended this position for a few days now, and the enemy has given up. We think they're hiding within that old structure you probably saw on the way here."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"The Temple?"

He hadn't seen any of the locals on his way here, but he hadn't been looking either. He'd only been looking for Valery. It'd be best, though, for them to find these people sooner rather than later. With both of them here they could easily get through this. Find the antidote, then make their way home. At least the door was there. They could make use of that to get everyone back.

"Or is there another place I didn't see?"

Valery blinked, "There is a castle-like structure not too far away from here," she said before pointing in its rough direction. "It may have been a Temple or something else entirely - all I could tell is that it looked very old. We nearly hit it with the shuttle we stole when we came down from the Hyperspace ring ship...thing..." she chuckled softly and walked back a few steps to sit down.

She was feeling weaker, so unless they were going to start moving, she preferred to sit. Or, well, be carried but she wasn't going to ask him that now that things seemed so serious.

"Wait, how did you even get here-" she stopped as she heard someone else entering the tent. It was one of the Epicanthix warriors, and he looked particularly nervous when he saw Kahlil.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil frowned a little as she sat. Worry, mostly. He never liked seeing her weak like this. It wasn't right. But the poison was having quite the effect, even stalled as he'd made it with his runes. There was more to talk about, and he would've, if not for the entrance of another Epcianthix into the tent. He blinked, looking them over before nodding.

"What's the report?"

The young Epicanthix soldier watched Valery sit down and his panic only seemed to grow. He cleared his throat, looked Kahlil in the eyes and very visibly pushed himself to speak, "I came to apologize," he began before lowering his head, both in shame and to show respect.

"Your wife was hit by the poison dart because I wasn't alert enough." He didn't really think that Kahlil would get angry or do anything, but it still wasn't the type of news he'd like to be sharing with the husband of the woman who took a shot for him.

"I also wanted to request a chance to make up for it. If we're heading for that old structure, please allow me to be at the front with you two. Our scouts reported a small presence of enemy forces there, but I will not let them catch me by surprise again," the young man said. Above all else, he didn't want the Sword and Shield to view him as weak.

Kahlil_Div2.png

So that's what happened. Kahlil glanced briefly to Valery before looking to the soldier again. She'd taken the poison for him. He nodded once. If he wanted to be at the front to help, Kahlil wasn't going to stop him. "Know your limits." For the warrior culture of the Epicanthix this was the most important lesson taught. They were all trained how to fight war, so they could defend themselves if it ever became necessary. Knowing limits meant knowing when to pull back to survive.

Death was often too meaningless in battle to be worth the risk.

"We leave immediately."

The soldier seemed quite relieved that Kahlil wasn't angry with him, even though Jedi rarely were. He even gave some advice that the young man took to heart, which brightened up his mood significantly, "Of course, I will not forget this." He dipped his head to Kahlil, then also to Valery, who smiled back at him.

The young men left the tent, and Valery reached for Kahlil's hands to pull herself up to her feet.

"I did get you one thing you'll be happy with." Valery smiled and walked over to a small table, where she picked up a datacard. "Before we left that ringed ship, I downloaded maintenance files and other schematics." Well, obviously she didn't download them, and he probably knew that.

She could barely use a TV properly.

"We have what we need to make a ship like that ourselves, so we can bring more people here if we need to. It was a tough fight to get it, so... I hope it's worth it," she said with an expecting smile.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Hopefully it won't be something we need. But, it will be good to have. Traveling to other galaxies will be useful for all manner of things, I imagine."

He reached up, gently patting the top of her head with a smile. It was good for them to have it. Especially if that meant coming back home would be much easier. He looked her over again though, to the wound on her arm. Frowned just a little.

".. Do you want to stay?"

"You know it's kind of silly that you pat my head like this, right?" She asked, but with a smile that made it obvious she loved it. Their hand-holding, the head pats, hugs and kisses - every little bit of the physical affection they shared really resonated with her the most.

Well, that and the three magical words.

Her smile, however, faded a little when she caught his eyes shifting down to her arm. The question that followed deepened her frown. Of course, there was a reasonable argument for her staying - it could get worse and she didn't want her family to be shaken up by her medical condition getting really bad.

But she was also a very strong, stubborn and proud woman. She didn't like others carrying her burdens at all, and only Kahlil was ever really allowed to help her when she did really need it. This time, she just really didn't want to stay behind.

"I know I'm not at my best, but I don't want to be here alone and slowly feel myself dying. It's just... making it even worse. Please, let me help you." She looked at him with big, pleading eyes. In these situations, she very much leaned on him and listened to what he said, so she would respect his decision.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil let out a heavy sigh. He wasn't going to argue with her, certainly not about keeping her here to feel herself dying. If anything, it made sense that she came with so she'd get the antidote as quickly as possible. And yet,

"We're in enemy territory with exhausted troops a whole Galaxy away. You're injured, poisoned. If I feel like you're a hinderance, I'll assign you to the back, like I would anyone else." It wasn't just her life on the line. It was all of the Epicanthix that had come with them. "Understood?"

"Oh you're in charge now, hm?" She asked with a perked brow, but a challenging smirk as well. Valery totally understood this point, of course, but she wasn't going to give him the reigns without messing around a little. "I've been leading these exhausted troops for days already, injured and poisoned." She was grinning now, despite the growing pain, and walked past him while she hip bumped him.

"But alright, babe. I'll make sure you won't have a reason to be worried about me." She knew that he likely still was - she would have been too, if their roles were reversed.

"For now, I'm at the front with you, though. I know a way to get to our target."

Kahlil_Div2.png

He wasn't as amused as she was. He reached out, gently taking her hand. There was no smile, just a stern, serious expression. "You have been. But we do not know what else that poison can do, and how much longer you can run with it. So yes, I am in charge now." He squeezed her hand gently. Teasing, playing around, they could do that when she wasn't poisoned and they weren't on an uncharted land with people who needed their leadership.

Right now, there was nothing more important to him than making sure everyone got home and had the best chances for it.

"You'll guide us there, but the moment you can't function properly you must tell me."

Valery blinked when he reached out to take her hand.

The more stern look on his face removed the playful smirk from her own, and she just watched him while she listened. He really was worried, and she couldn't blame him. His wife was poisoned and hurt, and the Epicanthix with them were still stuck and exhausted after days of fighting and survival.

They relied on the Nobles, but could anybody really rely on her anymore?

"I will, I promise," Valery said a little more seriously, before she pushed herself up to kiss his cheek, "I'm sorry if I'm worrying you, love. I'll be careful and I'll take this seriously." She squeezed his hand and turned her gaze out towards the structure not too far in the distance.

"You know, now that I look at it again... doesn't it remind you a little of the underwater temple as well?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

"That's how I got here. They had a door that let me cross the Galaxy inside the temple. I'm not surprised they look the same here." If anything, it all made sense. It was more likely the temple came from this Galaxy, and that's why these people had come to it. To get it back, whatever might've been inside. He smiled, reaching over to gently squeeze Valery's hand one last time. As serious as he was, he couldn't help but want to comfort her.

At least a little before his expression turned serious again.

"Gather the troops. We'll begin immediately."

Valery frowned at the revelation that he got here through the Temple - how could she have missed that after they had already been teleported across the stars to fight various monsters? She shook her head and let out a soft sigh, "So they want their Temple back, or they want to keep the door open, then." If they had it back, it could bring them to distsnt planets she assumed.

If the door was left open, they would have an easy path to their Galaxy.

Valery looked up again with a smile when he took her hand one last time, and reminded herself to be more careful. The last thing she wanted to do, was worry him every step of the way - he needed to be focused to lead the troops.

"Gather up, we're moving out!" There was nothing left of the sweet Valery - she projected her voice with strength, and the troops responded to it immediately. She could be a little intense about these things. Soon enough, the important parts of the camp were broken down, and they started heading for the tower not too far away.

The terrain, however, was not ideal. They were up to their knees in the snow, and the only safe path was one between tall rock formations. "This is the perfect place to be ambushed..." Valery grumbled, knowing that any other path was still far more dangerous.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"It is. But not for us."

For more than one reason at that. Kahlil, the shortest among the Epicanthix at the moment, walked through the snow with a steady, calm gate. Those with them had an even easier time given just how tall they were. But it was something else entirely that had Kahlil so calm. He knew the cold. Knew how to use the snow. He'd make sure the others were protected at least until they made it to the temple.

"I don't feel anything under the snow, not yet."

Valery grumbled.

"It's so cold, and I'm really feeling small right now..." She muttered just loud enough for her husband to hear. With every step they took up the mountains towards the other Temple, the snow was getting thicker. Slowly but surely, the shortest of the group was starting to disappear, and she definitely had ro put more effort into keeping up with them all.

She really hoped they wouldn't already push her to the back, so she started stubbornly pushing herself even more.

She hated feeling this weak.

It also made sure that she couldn't really sense the danger up ahead. Not the way Kahlil could in the snow - someone was waiting for them not far away.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Are you unable to keep yourself warm?"

The concern was clear in his voice. They were both trained Master Jedi. Keeping themselves warm through the Force was something they both knew how to do. If she wasn't capable of it, did that mean the poison was affecting her? Keeping her from being able to channel the Force? That would just mean she shouldn't have come along at all. He tensed his jaw a little before letting out a sigh.

Then focused instead on the sensation of someone else. He raised a hand, scattering the snow around the individual. The snow itself solidified into ice, turning to shackles to capture them outright. There was only one, so it was worth capturing alive at least.
