The kids paid them no attention, as they entered the house. Vera was already in her room with the door locked, the triplets were playing and Aris was nearby to watch over them. Colette was likely training somewhere, so the two Nobles slipped into the bedroom, and Valery disappeared into their bathroom soon after. Then, Kahlil was forced to wait. A long time.

Valery had a plan, and she wanted everything to be perfect. Her hair, her dress, her make-up, and even her perfume. Kahlil never needed any of those extra things and he'd still find her beautiful, but sometimes, she liked to show off a little.

After what probably felt like an eternity to him, Valery stepped out in a dress Briana Sal-Soren Briana Sal-Soren helped pick her out for these occasions. It showed a lot of leg, her chest was pushed up, and the green color worked amazingly well with the dark-brown locks she had curled a little.

"Well?" she asked expectantly. "What do you think?" She twirled around a bit, then smiled and waited for an arm to be offered before heading out.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil was fine with waiting. It gave him a moment to sit. Center himself again after everything that happened. He just needed to breath, just for a little bit. Not that his breathing to calm down really helped much as he glanced up to see Valery in her dress. He smiled, stood, took her arm in his as he pulled her along almost to head out. "You look beautiful, love. Where'd you get that dress? It's certainly not Epicathix."

Valery eagerly awaited his reaction, and the smile, the way he stood, and the hitch of breath said it all. She couldn't help but blush a little and took his arm to follow him out of the house. "Briana helped me pick it during our shopping trip the other day. I wanted something sexy, but still appropriate for these kinds of dates. She's good at bringing out... well, the best of me." She smirked and leaned up to kiss his cheek.

Walking on heels made her about 6ft tall, so she finally didn't feel so short.

"I'm really glad you like it..." Her smile stayed warm, and together they walked through town. They caught a lot of eyes turning their way, but among their people, it was always respectful and it felt encouraging.

"This spontaneous date idea is really exciting. Usually, we plan so much because of how busy we are, so this is just... Ahhh," she snickered and rested the side of her head against his arm.

She was happy.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Is that who shot that picture of yours before?"

Kahlil chuckled a little. Leave it to Bri, he figured. He squeezed her waist just a little as they walked, smiling just as happily as she did now that they were in town. Away from danger. That was the biggest relief, being away from danger.

"After everything that just happened, there's no chance I wouldn't take you on a date. So lets enjoy it to the fullest, yeah?"

Valery snickered, "Of course. Not like I'd let anybody else see me like that." Briana was her former Padawan, and a close friend, so she wasn't ashamed to have her help with this type of stuff. She also wouldn't make things weird, and that was crucial. "If you liked that picture, you'll love what we've got planned next." She looked ahead of herself, rather than at him, with quite a smug expression now.

They had some plans.

"Awwe, look at you two!" The waitress at their favorite restaurant had already spotted them, and approached with a huge smile. The Nobles would usually reserve a spot ahead of time, so seeing them just appear, all dressed up like that, made her believe this was a special occasion. "Please, follow me. I already have the perfect table for you," she smiled warmly, and turned around to guide the Nobles inside.

Valery, for just a moment, realized just how small she was among these giants.

The table they got was near the big, glass window overlooking the forest at the edge of the city. Valery loved that spot, and sat down with such a happy smile.

"Niv Hani really has turned into something special, huh? Just look at this place..."

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil raised a brow up, but didn't hide the excited grin on his face. If that picture was anything to go by, and it was, there was going to be quite the treat for him much later. Something to look forward to. He guided Valery to her seat after the waitress, casually pulling out her chair for her. Pushing her in. He wasn't holding back on his affection for her now that they could afford to let it happen.

Now that they weren't in danger.

"It shows the resilience of our people."

Kahlil sat in his own seat, smiling softly as he looked out over the city with her. "I should find more. Bring them here. Now that Niv Hani is so developed, it'll be easier to get people to come back. Find home again."

Oh, he was excited now. Good, he should be with what she and Briana had planned. But also because of what she had planned once they got home. The danger of the mission and the poison had put him on edge, and as he pulled her chair back and helped her get seated, she knew there was a lot of relief in him. They were both safe and no longer in danger — they could just focus on their affection for each other.

When they were back home, she was going to show him just how much she loved him.

"We should find more." Valery leaned over the table and placed her hand over his, "This is something I feel very passionate about as well, and well... I promised I'd support you." She flashed a bright grin, then leaned back into her own chair. Right as the waitress returned, and filled up two glasses of red wine for them.

She knew it was Valery's favorite drink from earlier visits.

"Why don't we organize an event here? Bring the Alliance, and welcome other displaced Epicanthix to come here and see what we've built?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil took up his glass, nodding once as he chuckled. Right. He didn't have to do anything alone. "A festival could be fun, yes. We've already a couple in mind for Lifeday, though. So what should we plan? When should we plan for, more accurately. We should be able to speak with the others here and set something up with an idea at least."

Showing off for the Alliance wasn't something he was against, especially if it meant bringing his people home. All the scattered remnants that his father deemed unworthy, they deserved a home.

"Let's not do it around Life Day. Everybody is busy then, and... we have our annual trip too." Going to Eshan wasn't something she wanted to give up on, even for a festival they hosted at their own home. Niv Hani had all her love, but the memories of Eshan were something to remember. Besides, if they were going to organize this festival, they could place it whenever was convenient to them as well.

"We could talk to Adonis and the city council. Maybe during spring next year?" she proposed with a smile. Whenever they'd do it, as long as it wasn't summer or winter, it'd probably work out quite well.

"We could set it up with fun rides for kids, maybe some sparring because of it being an Epicanthix festival, and hmm... music? A market? Fun activities and games?" She was clearly getting into it, and didn't even realize the waitress having walked over to take their orders.

But she liked having him order for her, anyway.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"An Epicanthix spring festival?" Kahlil hummed in thought. "Under my Father's reign, it'd be a fire festival, though more of a mass public execution. He adapted the Ember of Vahl after he married one of my mothers, turned it into a true celebration. But a truly dark one." That certainly wouldn't do now, but he knew that some did still celebrate it. It wasn't all murder and killing of the innocents. Fire brought with it new life, and the Epicanthix tradition of taking cultures they've defeated as their own rather than wiping them out still burned strong in even the hearts of those who rebelled openly against Carnifex.

"We'll talk more with Adonis, but even the darkest parts of our history shouldn't be pretended to have never existed."

Valery blinked and looked at him from behind her glass, eyes peaking just over the edge, "...can we make it more family friendly?" She asked with a sheepish smile. Of course, she had expected something fitting for the Epicanthix culture, but public executions was definitely off the table. Not that she thought he'd want that.

Or else they were going to have some words.

"I do like the fire idea, so maybe I'll put on a show, hm?" She smirked jokingly and hummed in thought. "But I do think we should make it something new. Something that symbolizes that we've built something new here and are looking for a better future." She paused and hummed in thought.

"Maybe there is a way to remember the past with it, but there better ways to do that. Festivals are usually for fun and forgetting about troubling things. Maybe we could have a museum built though, and open it as part of the festival as well?" It was one idea, but that way the darker past could be remembered at all times, and when it was convenient for people.

Rather than them needing to wait for one specific event hosted once a year.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"But live human sacrifices are a family event, don't you know?"

Kahlil rolled his eyes and smirked. He did say they were going to change how the event was actually celebrated. ".. A museum would be good, though. We lost so much with the destruction of Panatha, but I imagine there is a lot we saved before it's destruction. It would be good to show our people a place where we can still hold tight to our roots."

"Maybe I'll start with sacrificing you~"

Valery waggled her eyebrows, then sat back in her chair and raised a hand to flick her manicured nails in the most sassy way that she could. Damn right, it was a good idea to build a museum. "See, sometimes your wifey has some good ideas, too" Valery said with a smug grin for him.

"A lot of museums run on donations, so once we spread the word, I'm sure a lot of survivors would be willing to share artifacts. In addition, museums can also display things made to remember what happened. So, it wouldn't be something from Panatha, but a piece of art, a statue or a collage made for the museum." She was definitely even more on the smug end now, but when the waitress came over with their steaks, Valery was like a little kid.

She cut a piece of her steak that was probably a bit too big for her mouth, and shoved it into the inside of her cheek to start chewing on it.

Some things would never change.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"You do realize much of what made Panatha beautiful is just that. Even Niv Hani has some of the art we did save out on display. The Epicanthix love art. Love culture. Even past conquests were done in a way to preserve much of the people we fought."

Not that they were doing conquests anymore. At least not the Epicanthix here away from his father. "A lot of cultures were lost in the destruction of Panatha. Whole civilizations that we brought into our fold, gone. Or at least that what it seems like. Many families have different ties to these cultures. I imagine they'll be able to help us bring in more for this museums." Kahlil bit back a chuckle as he watched her start to eat, and followed suit himself shortly after.

He was just as hungry for a good steak, though he did certainly eat with more poise.

"Nerd."

She pouted while she chewed on her steak, but she meant it in a playful way. He was totally right, of course, and there wasn't anything she could really say to spin it any other way either. She just wasn't going to admit it, and even went as far as to stick the tip of her tongue out towards him.

She wiggled it from side to side, and shot him a smirk.

"But I agree - the people will help us make the museum represent what was lost." She cut up another piece of her food, and watched him eat for a moment. Should she be more polite about the way she ate too? She glanced around, and felt a gentle blush touching her cheeks.

She tried a smaller bite, this time.

"I uh, would like to give the new festival something fun for kids, too. Maybe games they can play? Water gun fights, maybe some light sparring..."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"I'm sure there's a lot we can figure out for the kids. Sparring is one of those things they really do enjoy from what I've seen." Well, maybe not all of their own children, but a good chunk of the Epicanthix did. It was a test of their strength and control. As a warrior culture, how could they not be big on that kind of thing? He chuckled as he took another bite, watching her for a moment. He wasn't trying to embarrass her, but he wasn't going to say anything either, less he did.

"What do you think? What stands out to you the most for them?"

"Most of them love it, yeah," Valery said with a chuckle. "The Epicanthix kids obviously do, but Nobles are pretty big on it. Just Aurra is a little more gentle, and Adam prefers hitting his drum set, rather than fight." She snickered at the thought. Perhaps they would enjoy sparring more when they got older. Though with Aurra not being Force-sensitive, there was a chance she'd go down a very different path.

That was definitely going to become a thing later. Right now, she was too young to really understand that she was different from all of her siblings.

"Some sparring and things with music would be great. Some games, too," Valery said with a dip of her head. "I'll just bring Aurra along, and keep her company too." Knowing her little princess, she'd just wanna read books or run after Aris all day. He loved books too, and she loved it when he read her stories.

Then, she squinted. "...I know that look. Am I eating weird?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

Aurra would indeed be something they'd have to talk about at some point. When she was older, with her specifically. It was already obvious that Aurra was never going to be able to use the Force like her siblings. And that she was the only one that way. It likely meant she'd feel very excluded. Right now, though, she was still young. She might have an idea, but it wasn't a pressure she needed to have on her shoulders.

Kahlil nodded his head in agreement, then snorted at her question.

"You are now. Why aren't you eating how you normally do?"

"You mean... why I'm not eating like a gremlin?" She asked now that she had a smaller piece of her steak in her mouth. Something proper and more lady-like. It was very much different though, but that was a good thing here at a restaurant, right? She tilted her head and looked down at her food.

"Am I doing it wrong?" she blinked and swallowed her bite.

"You know, you've been raised like a Prince and I'm just... me. If I'm going to be with you when we're handling senators, politicians or even just the authorities here, I should be... well, less me?" She smirked playfully, but was actually curious about how he felt regarding this.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil fully snorted this time before shaking his head right away. "Fuck politicians. I'd much rather have my gremlin wife than something to appease those snobs, you know."

There was nothing he wanted more than his wife being his wife. Valery was the best, after all.

"Don't every stop being you, Valery."
