Ok. I can't help myself with this one. [member="Suravi Teigra"]... you're making me facepalm.
Light Year
Sublight Speeds
If you are "several light years" away from the solar system, and you are moving at speeds lower than the speed of light, then it would take you "greater than" several years to reach the Alderaan system (let alone the planet itself) while moving at sublight speeds.
Then there's the size of a solar system in general...
So... Even from somewhere within the icy cloud that orbits a solar system's edge... it would still take a minimum of roughly 2 years of travel at "sublight" speeds before you would reach a planet within the habitable zone of a star. And that's assuming that your ship is capable of "sublight speeds" that rival the actual speed of light.
And... for whatever reason... that bugs me more than [member="Reen Lorgon"] not realizing that it would take several hours to get from Chowza to Alderaan through Hyperspace.
Suravi Teigra said:Several light years outside of the Alderaanian system, a Kiribian battlegroup slipped back into real space at their designated rendezvous point. This position put them within a few minutes journey to Alderaan by hyperspace, close enough that they couldn't be tied up by any enemy interdictors lurking in the region. At worst, it would take the Kiribians an hour or more to reach Alderaan by sublight. Until the conclusion of the conference or a rescue call by Senator Teigra, they would remain in the area.
Light Year
- a unit of astronomical distance equivalent to the distance that light travels in one year
- nearly 6 trillion miles
Sublight Speeds
- an inferior speed than the speed of light
- less than 299,792,458 m/s

- From the Sun to Pluto is 39.2 AU. (AU being the distance from the Sun to the Earth)
- The Kuiper Belt ranges as far as 50AU away from the Sun.
- All the way out to the edges of the Oort Cloud... theorized to orbit as far as 100,000 AU from the sun. Which is 1.87 light-years from the sun.
