Invasion of Alderaan OOC Take Two [Mandos vs GR]

Ok. I can't help myself with this one. [member="Suravi Teigra"]... you're making me facepalm.

Several light years outside of the Alderaanian system, a Kiribian battlegroup slipped back into real space at their designated rendezvous point. This position put them within a few minutes journey to Alderaan by hyperspace, close enough that they couldn't be tied up by any enemy interdictors lurking in the region. At worst, it would take the Kiribians an hour or more to reach Alderaan by sublight. Until the conclusion of the conference or a rescue call by Senator Teigra, they would remain in the area.

Light Year
  • a unit of astronomical distance equivalent to the distance that light travels in one year
  • nearly 6 trillion miles

Sublight Speeds
  • an inferior speed than the speed of light
  • less than 299,792,458 m/s

If you are "several light years" away from the solar system, and you are moving at speeds lower than the speed of light, then it would take you "greater than" several years to reach the Alderaan system (let alone the planet itself) while moving at sublight speeds.

Then there's the size of a solar system in general...
  • From the Sun to Pluto is 39.2 AU. (AU being the distance from the Sun to the Earth)
  • The Kuiper Belt ranges as far as 50AU away from the Sun.
  • All the way out to the edges of the Oort Cloud... theorized to orbit as far as 100,000 AU from the sun. Which is 1.87 light-years from the sun.

So... Even from somewhere within the icy cloud that orbits a solar system's edge... it would still take a minimum of roughly 2 years of travel at "sublight" speeds before you would reach a planet within the habitable zone of a star. And that's assuming that your ship is capable of "sublight speeds" that rival the actual speed of light.

And... for whatever reason... that bugs me more than [member="Reen Lorgon"] not realizing that it would take several hours to get from Chowza to Alderaan through Hyperspace.

[member="Draco Vereen"] I'll be joining as an Ally for the mandos to work along side @Amelia Sorenn who's my handler Thank you! Please let me know if this is declined ^_^

I think you may have forgotten me in your last post; unless I'm just blind and read it wrong. The corvette you mentioned, did it refer to the cardinal class. I just want to make sure I'm not being left out.

And clarification for anyone else who may interact with her, Amelia has nothing to do with the Republic.

A- not starting conflict. Simply pointing out the logical fallacies and physical impossibilities in what's being done. With logic, facts, and (gasp) scientific evidence.

B- I'll leave it be if I feel like it. Especially considering that I am directly involved with any naval action that takes place in this thread. Thank you for your understanding.

It's okay to say it will take that many hours to reach there. We can just say that we left well in advance of the current events.
? Oh! You mean the Chowza to Alderaan bit?

Yeah. That's handwavium and plot convenience.

It's the "several light-years traveled in an hour of sublight speed" bit that's giving my brain an aneurysm.

He means being several light years away (And then sitting outside early detection equipment) and also being close enough to respond via sublight drives without having to deal with Interdiction. Basically if you are close enough to respond in reasonable time without Hyperspace jump or are within Interdiction range, we definitely (Beyond any shadow of a doubt) see you there.

[member="Draco Vereen"] It's cool guys, I already edited my post hours ago. I'm a big girl, just had a brain fart in the midst of hammering out a post before work. The point is that I'm really close to Alderaan.
