Invasion Poll

What role should PVP and NPCs play in Invasions?

As any long time member knows, I’m something of a tragic for trying to get invasions on SWRP into a place where it’s fair, balanced and epic. However, not everyone thinks the same as me (probably for the best) so I’m going to throw out a poll here to ask how you think Invasions should be handled.

Basically, my questions stem to the same general point; what part should PVP and non-PVP have in Invasions?

If an option is not listed feel free to answer below.

Grounding is the term I use for ground based tactical combat involving units of NPCs.

Disclaimer: This is not a rules change proposal, this is an opinion poll on your preference only!

I maintain that an invading faction should always establish control of the target planet's orbit before launching the ground invasion.

Don't care how you do it. Do a skirmish beforehand to decide. If you can't control space, you won't control the planet, so don't bother pissing away all the resources and personnel.

I've been a long time supporter of a multi-stage/multi-thread Invasion format.

PVP is pivotal of course, but we cannot lose the fleeting and NPC Objective based. Such a thing would be... awful and limiting :(

Besides, if its done in a separate thread, different rules can apply that allow it to be a strategic mission rather than a mad scramble to cram as much information into a single post, while also being flooded with PVP engagements.

[member="Adekos"] actually that's a good point space should be done first but what happens if the ground forces are planet side and the enemies ships then come into contact to brake away the invasion.

it's a matter of perspective.

This has potential, but unfortunately having the fleeting decide whether the invasion takes place isn’t viable here.

If we had a victory points system for determining the winner we could have that play a part there. Remember though, only about 10% of writers fleet, so this has to be borne in mind.

This. It makes so much sense. Sure a ground battle to take the planet is important...But if Faction A is utterly destroying Faction B's Navy say goodbye to supply chains, reinforcements etc. Though I think each should have its own place and thread, sure it would be a pain for the FAs involved, but War isn't simple, its complicated, and a pain in the rear.

EDIT: Also this

Invasions should be objective based. It doesn't matter who kills more, if in the end the defenders still hold the keep.

One way it could be done is if we allowed the fleeting battle to begin before the main invasion, if there was a clear winner they could use their remaining ships to possibly support the forces in the Grounding battle.

That’s about as far as you could go without really, really annoying the majority of the faction by having PVP duels interrupted by turbolasers!

Any - Whatever the Faction Admins agree upon in council. If they have members on both sides who want to contribute using only political speeches, rhyming couplets, and sexy GIFs? That's cool too. I mean, if you can find a partner? Then throw it all in there. (Poor judges) :p

And I don't really mind spreading it out into multiple threads as long as the RL schedule and time quota isn't messed up. I'd actually find it more organized that way. Especially if all the threads started and ended on the same day, and were submitted to be judged in a linked portfolio. :D

I maintain that all invasions are unique to their holders and invaders, and the circumstances that arise. Trying to shove them into a single method of engagement when we see things where no fighting is done at all (See: Techno Union vs Vitae) goes to show that the "traditional" mindset is not fit for every occasion.

I abstain. None of these work for me.

Hello, I am new to chaos but have been doing this for almost 20 years. While its true If you do not control space you cannot win on the ground, A ground battle does not need to wait for the space battle to be done. In fact a space battle is a good diversion for putting troops on the ground. Realistically An assaulting force will always have more ships. Any power can not defend every planet with a sizable fleet. While I am aware you guys work by fleet in meters and that's a wonderful way to do it. Keep it small because OMG big battles are a pain.

So force a jumps into force b system. Force a is always ready for force b. I mean any good fleeter knows we would have jumped to a location near the world and then had a scout jump in to see what was there before we ever jump in. once force a jumps in the planetary assault should begin. force be should have already had boots on the ground to disable defenses or attempt to. SO really the land battle would start first. There is more to a planetary assault then going down and taking an objective. you should never try to attack a world if its shields are up and planetary orbital defenses active. it is suicide no matter how big a fleet you have. A covert team on the planet already can engage these targets and disable them. then jump your first lines in. generally a skirmish line or two in. followed by the main body then the invasion fleet. Competitive Role Play is tricky and I opted to do more planned out things where we kinda knew what was going on going in. Not that its bad I look forward to doing some competitive stuff again. I guess my point is Planetary stuff should start every invasion. not like a full scale assault but there should be boots on the ground before the fleet gets there.

Welp, those options are what I class as other, and that's fine. I'll add in an option for that.

Also, Lily, I'm not advocating (and would never get approved) changing it so it HAS to be a certain way. I'm just asking what people's preferences are so factions can take it into account.
