ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • A fast, durable, and highly capable small craft for long-range exploration, this ship was designed to handle a variety of rigorous challenges and situations making it able to operate effectively in both deep space and across a variety of worlds, environments, and conditions.
  • Unique command-and-control design enables single operator (i.e. pilot or A.I.) greatly eliminating the need for additional crew (and space and supplies for them).
  • Powerful sensor system is perfectly suited for exploration and reconnaissance.
  • Redundant hyperdrive systems and other onboard innovations protect against catastrophic failure or becoming stranded.
WEAKNESSES
  • Relatively low-grade armament package makes this vessel a poor choice for heavy space combat roles, being unable to counter anything more than a few starfighters or another small-sized vessel.
  • Heavy power requirements for a variety of onboard systems means that even partial failure of power supply systems will reduce capabilities significantly until this can be repaired.
  • Expensive - This ship, and the various systems as well as personal gear, cost Tully most of his life savings and his entire winnings from the Sabacc tournament, meaning that Tully must take great care as it cannot be easily replaced.
  • All systems and materials purchased for the creation of this ship retain their normal weaknesses.
Technical Descriptions:

Propulsion System: Four servo-mounted engine pods, each one housing one (1) Nimble-5 Ion Engine and one (1) LLT-11 Caecius Drive System, which allows them to rotate to improve maneuverability, though at the cost of speed when doing so. It also allows for Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) and enables pilots to dock with other ships easily, even without terrific piloting skill. Further enhancing this is the application of a Gulfstream Maneuvering Thruster package, which makes the Kraken a remarkably agile vessel, despite its seemingly boxy shape, able to navigate through difficult terrain such as asteroid belts or low-altitude flights following a planet's terrain. When so desired, he can use just the LLT-11s' chemical engines, dramatically slowing the vessel but allowing to operate stealthily.

Power System: Uses a trio of Clan Heart Reactors, with dedicated power allotment to each engine pod, hyperspace systems package, shipboard computer systems, weapons, defenses, and sensors / communications suite, ensuring sufficient power flow and management. Supplemental power is received through the implementation of a Sabrina Heat Waste Reduction System, Gungan Plasma Energy Batteries, and derived from Afterglow Crystasteel Panels, all giving Tully confidence that the ship's many powerful systems and devices are sufficiently powered and that every bit of energy is not being wasted.

Computer System: The Kraken's main computer is a Saotome Depa Computer which them extends to several Calor-series biocomputers, which in turn each govern twenty percent of onboard systems and functions, all connected through a shipwide neural network and using Biolux-series Organoform and Sasor Agena circuitry routed through the ship's Ossis Starship Frame. This entire system is based upon the brain and central nervous system of ocean-dwelling cephalopods, like octopi, who relay on a series of smaller 'brains' each controlling certain portions of the body autonomously and coordinated through the larger brain. This allows for quicker reaction times, more efficient operation, and enables the central 'brain' to store more information, due to the reduction of required space for complex computations, etc. The organic nature of this system makes it incredibly hard to slice, and its dynamic programming and heuristic processors allow for it to learn, becoming even more efficient and capable over time and activity.

Sensor Suite: The ship's powerful sensor suite used an omni-directional antenna array, built into the vectral and dorsal-mounted MAST system, equipped with signal boosters to give his ship sensing capabilities to a much greater range and precision than normally found on most ships this size. The Metis Sensor Array, coupled with S-87 Sensor Suite and the ANq-51 Sensor Array, as well as the sensor array culled from an old MRX-BR Pacifier used by Galactic Empire's Imperial Survey Corps, so powerful and sensitive it was capable of counting the leaves on a particular tree from orbit, or performing geographical surveys of an entire planet in just days, gave Tully an incredibly powerful sensor suite and he knew that no matter where might go, he'd always know the score.

Communications Package: Tully used the Oracle communications suite, together with a powerful signal booster, all loaded with sufficient anti-slicing protection and encryption. This provided him with excellent long-range communications. Because space travel can be boring, he also shrugged and installed a CHX 2.1 Soundlink and 5.0 acoustic theater to play music and provide surround sound for speakerphone conversations, etc.

Hyperdrive System: In keeping with the bio theme, Tully opted for an exceptionally fast MBE Superluminal Biodrive system, with built-in nutritional delivery system and standard HIMS device, which he hoped would prevent sudden reversion or interdiction that could damage or kill this system. Intending to use this ship for long-range exploration, however, he dared not leave himself stranded in deep space, and thus for back-up he opted for an LLT-6 Zephyr Hyperdrive, hard-wired with a VT-Hyperspace Capacitor system, ensuring that no matter what, he could always get around quickly. The HIMS device is slaved to the MBE, and cannot be used with the Zephyr, just as the VT-Hyperspace Capacitor is slaved to the Zephyr and can't be used with the MBE.

Hull: A layer of Segroth Shocksteel formed the ship's casing, while Chimera Composite sheathing followed on after, finishing with a few coats of Segroth PGA coating. This gave the ship very high resistance to energy weapons, radiation, EMP / Ion, electrical / lightning, and even high resistance to high-velocity kinetic damage. Though Tully had considered using Reflec-based Shadowskin, he decided instead to use Programmable Paint, and to store programmed patterns for various types of digital camouflage (i.e. a light tan, dark brown wave pattern for deserts; a blue-green graded shade pattern for marine environments; a matte-grey, black, and white mottled pattern for arctic and mountains,;and a matte-black for space and nighttime situations) that enabled him to blend into various backgrounds and environments instead. Tully made the entire vessel airtight, and fully submersible to up to 1000m. A hydrostatic shield generator-created bubble of Gungan design was included for this purpose, enabling the vessel to even briefly remain submerged (Approximately one hour) to explore ocean worlds and underwater ecosystems, ruins, etc.

Flight Control Systems: Seated in his Sato Holochair, Tully is 'master and commander' of his ship, able to monitor, coordinate, and control all ship-board functions, navigation, and systems from a single location in the cockpit, assisted by a HUD. Further, Tully installed a Hammurabi A.I, whom he calls "Krak", which can operate the ship when he is sleeping, away, etc. but for any combat actions besides breaking contact and escaping, he must be at the helm since that particular A.I. will engage in armed conflict per its programming. An advanced flight computer and navigational control computer are both included in the design, making plotting hyperspace travel and adjusting, even changing course entirely without revision to be possible. Inertial compensators and gravitic modulators, further enable smooth rides and quick reaction times in flight.

Life Support; Other Systems: Using a Sotome Filter and otherwise standard life support system, and allowing heat collected by the Sabrina unit to ensure on board temperature controls, Tully sought to create a system that wasn't overly complicated or difficult to repair, given that losing life support is a very bad thing and depending on where one is when it happens, the bad-ness can be exponentially worse. Tully purchased an Archimedes repair and maintenance droid, which can handle most shipboard repairs and maintenance and assist with cleaning and general housekeeping otherwise. A solid investment, he thought, and maybe one which would take some of the burdens off of him for upkeep and ensuring everything was in tip-top shape. Tully also mounted three Gelieg 20m-cp lamps, one each fore and aft, and another over the port side ramp door, while inside he depends on LED running lights and voice activated overhead lighting to see by. A special UV light mounted over his bunk offers him needed solar energy and vitamins to prevent natural light-deprivation-related illnesses. He has stored on board a pair of SV Medkits, a flexpoly bacta suit, and an IT-SOO.2 medical droid for basic treatment of sickness and wound care. Shipboard security is entirely biometric, all except the concealed retractable Ax-108 "Ground Buzzer" cannon located beside the boarded ramp, to provide cover fire in case of entering or exiting in hostile situations. This was slaved to a dedicated targeting computer and power supply to ensure it would work even when the ship was powered down, and is able to identify friend from foe. Segroth Shocksteel and PGA coating are used on all internal surfaces to protect systems further. Heat sinks and cap drains are located in the deployable stabilizer fins on the engine pods.
  • Passenger Capacity: Can carry up to 12 passengers, but only for short trips due to minimized accommodations and supplies.
  • Minimum Crew: One (1) Pilot / Crew Member
  • Cargo Capacity: 25 metric tons
  • Ship's Complement: One (1) Assassin-class Recon Bike, modified, stored with magnetic docking clamps during flight.
  • Consummables: 1 Galactic Standard Year

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Ever since he first encountered Lucerne Labs' Squall-class Patrol Boat, Tully was smitten with the design. There was only one problem with it: It was too small. So he decided to build a bigger version, and to integrate into that version elements inspired by the Yuhzon Vong bio-ships that had captured his imagination since he was a child back in Coronet City. Tully designed his ship as if he were building a living being:

The Skeleton was to be the Ossis Ship Frame, while the Brain and Central Nervous System would be its multi-tier computer system and organic circuitry. For the Legs he adopted the quartet of engine pods, but using specialized engines that enabled slower, stealthier travel when called for, and included a maneuver thruster package to aid in its agility. The Teeth, of course, was the armament package that - while not making this a combat vessel per se - would enable it to be effective against starfighters and other small ships. For the Cardio-Vascular System, Tully gave his ship three 'Hearts' in the form of the aptly-titled reactors from Blood Hunter's Iron Works, as well as the supplemental power systems also added, giving him a powerful energy suite capable of operating the many advanced systems on board efficiently and ably. The Eyes and Ears of his ship were the powerful sensor arrays and communications suite. This concept would inform the entire design, from bow to stern, and helped Tully to begin to see his ship not merely as an excellent long-range exploration vessel, but as a living entity, a one-of-a-kind being able to traverse to the furthest corners of the galaxy, and perhaps, beyond. When Tully finally brought the A.I. online, his ship became - to his mind - truly alive.

Paid for with the winnings of an epic victory in a Tatooine Sabacc tournament, Tully sought to make his vision into reality, and did most all of the work on it himself. It isn't the most luxurious ship, and to describe shipboard conditions as being very comfortable would be an overly generous statement. But Tully didn't care about fashion, it was form and function that he was after. He was fine with the closeted galley with only a hot-plate stove and food storage system and the compact refresher, featuring a Tabord molecular toilet, ultrasonic shower, small vanity, all in one enclosed unit. The small bunk was comfortable enough for him, and he would stow most of his personal belongings away in storage compartments. After all, he really only had his ACS-205 Advanced Dual Weapons System, Aegis-class powered armor spacesuit, a couple of simple jumpsuit-styled flight suits, a field kit, and a few other items. He'd always sought to travel light, taking only what he felt he needed. He was a loner, drifting among the stars for most of his life, and now he had his chance to go and explore the vastness of space that had always called out to him. He'd seen enough of war and politics, of monotony and milk runs to turn a credit, and of the constant failures by his fellow beings to live up to his expectations for them. So a ship like this was an ideal reflection of his personal state and aims, created to fulfill his long-held dream of exploration and adventure out among the stars.
