Love Comes Softly (Kable Detta)

Alot of men get this moment wrong. But not Kable Detta. The words hit him like a ton of bricks, but not in the way that a man fears losing his freedom or his exciting sex life. The news for Kable was....exhilarating, the happiest news he could ever hear. The emotion that was whirling in his heart burst its way out and he let out a giddy laugh, almost childlike in it's tone. He knelt down beside his wife and kissed her, not caring of the activities that had brought her to the bathroom in the first place.
"And just when I thought it was impossible for you to make me any happier!" [member="Briika Tor"]
He pulled her into his arms and rocked her and got lost in thought as his future began forming in his head...

Thirty-three and a half weeks later…

Sleep was not coming easily for Briika as her back had been sore all day, and it didn't help none that Dett'ika was kicking and rolling around inside her swollen abdomen either making it very difficult to find a comfortable position in the bed she shared with her riduur. The very pregnant Mando'ade didn't want to disturb the dark-haired Detta any more than she already had so the young blonde got up and made her way to the kitchen.

While the kettle heated up on the stove as a cup of hot tea sounded real good at the moment, Bree felt the sudden urge to use the fresher… It really was more than just an urge. The pressure was immense, enough that she grunted out loud as her hands went to her belly reflexively that was contracting just before a stream of light-colored fluid splashed down between the medic's legs and onto the kitchen floor. This could only mean one thing………………..

"[member='Kable Detta']….. It's time!"

Kable Detta was a Mandalorian Warrior. Trained in the arts of warfare since birth. Survivor of countless engagements, and now....soon to be dad.
The news of his wife's pregnancy had made Kable happier than he had ever been before.
The last thirty three and half weeks, Kable had withdrawn from active service and had spent as much time at his love's side as he could.
He was a soldier, so much to Briika's demise, he drilled in preparation of the big day when their child would enter the world. He thought of every detail imaginable, and practiced till it was second nature. The delivery of child was going to be perfect if he had any choice in the matter!

Then, four little words shattered every plan that he had ever had to indescribable pieces. "Kable Detta….. It's time!"
Those words pierced Kable's soul and he was instantly awake. He shot out of bed, but was tangled in the blankets and tripped and landed with a loud crash which could be heard downstairs. Downstairs, where Briika's voice was coming from!
Kable thrashed with the blankets till he was free then he crawled for the door until he was able to get to his feet, then he rushed out the bedroom door and tore down the stairs and frantically looked around till his eyes found his wife. He rushed to her side. All of the steps he had prepared for had left his memory. He placed a gentle hand on her back and offered his arm to her for support. He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing would come out. [member="Briika Tor"]

For a moment or two, okay several, Briika felt panic. She was definitely in labor and now that her water broke, the contractions would be coming harder and faster. How could the medic not have realized she was in early stages of labor earlier… Maybe be cause she was being stubborn trying not to complain or to an extent in denial. Her due date wasn't for a few more days yet and usually first babies came late. Well not this time.

By the time Kable had awoken and come downstairs to her aide, Bree had been able to at least get to the stove to turn off the steaming kettle and drop a kitchen cloth down onto the floor to help mop up her mess. This was the part she didn't want her riduur to see. Even though she knew Kable loved her, the part of her that wanted him to only know her as his sexy wife came to bare upon her consciences. There would be no hospital delivery as planned; there simply wasn't enough time to get into Keldabe now. They would have to deliver their child at home, well he would with her to guide him. The look on her husband's face told Briika everything she needed to know; that at this moment Kable needed her to be strong and calling the shots as the shock of the situation was hitting the young Mando'ad full on.

"Okay, first thing we need to both do is take a deep breath," Briika said with her best smile under the circumstances, encouraging Kable to take one with her, then she continued.

"You are going to help me deliver our baby, cyar'ika. I need for you to get me upstairs so I can lay down on our bed. You'll find in the hall closet my medical bag with everything you'll need to assist me and the baby once Dett'ika is born. There are extra towels in the fresher, which we'll need and I also want my comlink to call ner buir'ika. You better get me up there before I have my next contraction. I have an inkling it will be sooner than later, " Bree instructed holding her belly with her free hand, then she pressed her lips to his.

"A kiss for luck. Ohhh I'm so excited this day is finally here... We are going to be buire!"

A deep breath, and the panic began to subside. All of the preparation had gone out the window, but Briika needed him, and that snapped him back into reality.
He leaned in and kissed her tenderly, then caressed her cheek with the back of his hand. "I love you, lets bring our child into the Galaxy"
All sense of fear had left him and was replaced with a stoic calm. Some things in life you can never plan for, no matter how much effort you put into it. At those moments, you have to adapt.

He bent down and gently lifted his wife into his strong arms, careful to not put pressure on her abdomen. He carefully walked to the stairs and gingerly walked up them and into their bedroom where he gently laid her in bed.
He reached over to Briika's nightstand and retrieved her comlink and placed it in her hands. "I'll be right back my love, don't get started without me." He gave her a playful wink, then walked with a purpose to go retrieve the items that she requested.
Moments later he was at his wife's side with her medical bag open and fresh towels laying off to the side.
A look of calm determination rested on his face. He was about to be a father.

Briika flashed the ruggedly handsome dark-haired Detta brother a sweet smile from her spot on the bed, but it didn't' last very long as a contraction was starting. She focused her azure gaze upon a holo displayed on their dresser across the room while panting through the labor pain. It was of her and Kable at their wedding celebration held at the brewery. It seemed just like yesterday they'd taken their riduurok. Time flew fast when you were having fun, and the young Mand'ode couple did enjoy being married, building a life together, and now starting their very own family.

By the time her riduur came back with her medical bag, the contraction was just ending. Bree blew out one last cleansing breath, then relaxed back against the pillows.

"There is a folded plastic sheet in my bag along with some blue chucks we should put down on top of the bed so we don't get it messy. The contractions are about ten minutes apart so it's best to lay out all the rest of the supplies as well. Things may progress quickly or stall out. It all depends on how much Dett'ika wants to meet their buire face to face. Also some ice chips would be nice when you get a chance, cyar'ika. If you need anything to eat or drink, now would be the time as later you'll be plenty busy."

Kable returned with the ice chips and set them on the nightstand and then began placing the plastic sheet and the chucks. Once that was finished, he began pulling out the medical supplies and laying them out so that he was ready.

He could see the pain on her face, so he took her hand in his. He knew it did nothing to ease the pain, but he would offer her any comfort he could.
Food and drink were the last thing on his mind, he was ready to meet his child.

As the endless hours of labor continued well into the daylight, Briika tried to keep a smile on her face, but the combination of heavy back labor and the increasing intensity of the contractions were starting to strain her resolve to be all Mandokarla about this.

"If we ever do this again, [member="Kable Detta"], I want drugs, and lots of them!," she huffed right before another doosy of a contraction hit. When this one was over, Bree gave him 'the look'.

"It's time to bring our Dett'ika into this world," the golden blonde smiled with tears sprinkling her weary azure eyes, then she turned sideways on the bed and scooted to the edge so Kable would be able to deliver their baby. The anxiety (both longing for and scared spitless) was palpable in the air.

"Just do like we rehearsed and everything will be fine, cyar'ika. I have faith in you."

He took a wet towel and dabbed her forehead. It would have little to no effect, but Kable was trying anything he could to help his wife. He hated seeing her in pain, but their child would soon be here so there was little he could do.

Time was an abstract thing. Hours may have passed, or was it minutes? Whatever the passage of time was, Kable never left [member="Briika Detta"]'s side.
He wasn't sure if he was performing as they had rehearsed, but he acted anyways. He breathed with her, and gave her words of encouragement.

Eventually, he held his child in his arms. The fierce warrior Kable Detta, stood motionless, his mouth agape as he stared at his daughter. A daughter? It was a girl. She was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen in his life. His eyes moved to the bed where he saw the only other person to contend with the beauty that he now held in his arms. He smiled and knelt next to Briika and gently put their daughter in her arms. "You did my love. Meet our daughter"

Briika couldn't have asked more of her riduur while she labored and finally delivered their first child in their home without a midwife present. [member="Kable Detta"] had done everything the young medic had instructed him to do, even put up the the blonde's short temper as she lashed out a couple of times towards the end when the pain and weariness of the situation got the better of her.

The healthy cries of the Detta newborn echoing in their bedroom along with Kable's excitement brought relief to Briika. Tears of unspeakable joy streamed down her weary face as he knelt down and laid their baby girl into her arms. The care he took and look in her husband's eyes told Bree the dark-haired Detta brother was going to be an excellent father.

"No… We did it. I love you so much, Kab'ika," she smiled sweetly, raising her free hand to caress his stubbled cheek tenderly, then added. "What shall we call our precious little girl?"
