Well, maybe you can at least allow a minor faction a capital and minimal influence cloud? That way new comers can at least see that a faction exists. There isn't an area where minor factions can have there own area where new players can see to advertise their existence.
This is actually something I agree with.

This does not make me happy in the slightest. Especially since I know a viable alternative was proposed. TEC has at least 5 members that are on every single day, and 7 total unique members. We should be able to sustain ourselves beyond this. But if we're stripped of control of our own homeworld... It just isn't at all fair.

All I can do is post advertisements and hope that they'll be answered. I can't force people to join. TEC is a great faction with a widely open concept and lots of positions of importance available, but that doesn't mean people are going to join. The concept is not mainstream to Star Wars, making recruitment hard.

Akio has hinted at the main point here: People join the mainstream. You think Star Wars and you think Sith and Jedi. So people come here and join them. They don't come and look around and say: here's this Echani faction, I've never heard of Echani before, maybe I'll join them to find out. They go for the safe. TEC as a concept will always be a smaller faction in comparison.

The concept of just keeping our holdings and not being able to do Dominions/Invasions is acceptable. But to just lose it all, is not acceptable to me at all. Couple keeping them on the map with the idea proposed by Flint where factions mandate the number of members and I think there's a good system there that creates fairness.

That is true, but the main point in the message was that we don't have effective advertising that new members can see.

The Faction Directory and Word of Mouth is unbiased. You have more at your finger-tips than you know. ;)

But you have to think like a new person. Not everyone goes strolling on through and reading everything they see. They stick to what they can see first, or what they know first. But I suppose you're not lying.

And it makes us small factions feel like we're doing something, not just the redheaded stepchild (no offence Ti'Cira) of the board that has dreams of being a major faction but does not actually matter.

Lying? Nah. But the Members Roster can be misleading. In the Republic we have a Pinned Topic called 'The Writer's Hub'. It is a place for all our unique writers to gather together and share contact info so we can plot IRL via IM. Currently, it only has 10 replies. ...Yep. Just 10. Not 90 like our members list says. Haha.

So trust me. The gap between my faction and yours is very small indeed. Don't let the numbers fool you. Your a lot closer to your goal than you think. ;)

Flint, not everyone wants to give out their contact info. That doesn't mean they aren't unique in your faction. Just that they don't want to share.

Every faction matters depending on what they do. It helps forge alliances against other factions. As for the Pinned Topic in the Republic -- a lot of people posted their information in the Skype thread which is probably why it hasn't had a lot of replies :p

RP Judge Response:

Major Faction:
A Major Faction is a major player on the galactic scene they hold territory on the map and often have fleets. In order to apply to be a major faction you must have ten active unique members. If a major faction drops below five members it will be removed from the map and become an Inactive Faction.

We are still discussing more about how to go about the rules for Factions both Major and Minor and we're listening to your comments here in this thread.

Oh yeah. I'm just trying to help Haru with a little pep talk. He's done a great job building and recruiting. He really has. And since I poster-boy for the Republic I like to try and help everyone else reach the same status we have.

And while not everyone shares their contact info, I also realize that many of our writers don't play or contribute to the Map Game either. And thats okay. Completely understandable. Everyone is free to write how they want to. Thats one of the blessings that Factions provide. An IC identity to further these stories along and promote cooperation as a board.

And I believe a firm definition for Minor Factions will help everyone understand better that you can still write that story, without ever touching the Map. ;)

Maybe a third type of faction, for factions like Ryori's that are currently considered "minor" factions because they don't have governments?

Then you could have Major factions for the large galaxy spanners, minor factions for the small localized governments, and the borderless factions that have no presence on the map regardless of member size.

Agreed. I haven't filled out the form myself. Its nothing against the Republic and I love my faction to death. I feel I'm active enough that you see me, I'm in the Dominions/Faction Threads so obviously I'm active. I just don't see the need of throwing myself out there when anyone can shoot me a PM if they want to know something. :)

As for the requirement, I dont know. I do like the idea of a small influence or even one or two planets until those factions get enough members. I think it should be focused on which factions are active, not how many unique members. You can have 10 people and not be doing squat except taking up map space.

I'd also like to point out I love what the Sith have done with governing their worlds. They have split their territory up into sections and given those sections to ranking members to govern. Thus creating 'smaller formations' within the larger formation of their Faction as a whole. These are not Sub-Groups nor are the Allied Major Factions. They are something completely new and original. ...And very useful in a number of ways.

It's not the 3rd type of Faction Arina describes. But bears strong consideration. :D

Hit the nail on the head.

I feel like the term Minor Factions is all encompassing and covers more than just governments...The Red Coterie is a good example, yes.

While I agree, it's a common correlation for more members to equal greater activity.
