meditation on the "Technobabble" saber, Aerin's personal blade

Aerin Kath

Sentinel of the Outback.
Intent: to make a saber for Aerin
Development Thread: if needed
Manufacturer: Aerin The Lost
Model: N/A
Affiliation: Aerin The lost
Modularity: several parts can be replaced.
Production: unique
Material: Durasteel and lightsaber components, one Synthetic Crystal and one Kyber Crystal grown together artificially to create a balanced light and dark crystal
Classification: lightsaber
Size: hand and a half(1-2 hands)
Length: Handle - 27.7 cm, Blade - 140 cm
Weight: 2kg
Special Features:
  • Power adjustment controls (a slider pad)
  • Bifuricating Cyclical Ignition Pulse
  • Custom Battery
Strengths:
  • + Balance - the force is balanced in this weapon, for better or for worse.
  • + Frankenstein's Saber - parts are cobbled together in a stabilizing fashion thanks to Aerin's Mechu Deru tinkering
Weaknesses:
  • - Destabilizing - when the saber is too much under the influence of one side of the force or the other(darkside or lightside nexi) strange effects can and do happen
  • - Rejection - the hybrid crystal may reject itself at anytime ( I may need to do that thread with Titan to get these things through the factory so this is a placeholder until then)
Description: Aerin spent much time contemplating on this saber, seeing the design of the sith who he had killed in a raid with The Corellian League and hoping to improve upon it, the synthetic crystal was taken from a sith's saber, where the kyber crystal was bought from a 'lightside' merchant and were fused together with to be developed tech... more to be added soon

any feedback or help is much appreciated guys :3

I wouldn't recommend going with aluminum for the construction material. You'll want to do Durasteel here, though if you're up for a dev thread Cortosis or Phrik aren't bad choices either.

As it happens, I've subbed several lightsabers. Feel free to pick through for ideas.

Paperweight (very basic, balanced lightsaber)
Papercut (lightsaber + lightside alchemy)
Riptide (Makashi dueling lightsaber)
Boo Chiyo's Lightsaber (this was my first sub, and is the most vanilla)

Yes, for my lightsiders, I follow the Tolkien-esque motiff of giving the sword a name...

Imma bullet point everything so its all uniform and not a mess for ya.

  • 30 cm was considered the standard lightsaber hilt size. Naturally it's a hand and a half long.
  • Lightsaber blades are generally around 145 cm. So your blade is considerably shorter. So, if you keep it that length, Mention that you will have to be closer than your average lightsaber to cause damage with the blade.
  • The weight for your lightsaber is off of the charts. Most lightsabers are around 1-2 kgs. Hell, even if you made one of Beskar it would only be around 2-2.5 kgs. 4 is way too heavy. I recommend bringing that down.
  • Your lightsaber crystal is unique and is matched to the lightsaber itself. So I recommend having no modularity with the lightsaber crystal. Or at least put that you need to do a separate dev thread to mention you changed it out with another one.
  • Continuing with the lightsaber crystal, You are making a dark sided synthetic lightsaber crystal, and forming it with a Kybr Crystal? Synthetic crystals don't have to only be dark sided. Hell, Luke's green lightsaber was made from a synthetic crystal. As well, I highly recommend you do a development thread for the special crystal.
  • Charging a lightsaber? Um. Lightsabers "Always" work because of the "battery" that is housed inside is self sustaining. Doesn't need to be charged unless you want to make some kind of proto-saber.
  • I recommend to read this entire page about lightsabers to give you a better idea about what to put into your setup.
