Moonlight Lekku

It was the tone of his voice that did it. That and what he said about her eyes. Choli was already breathing hard and flying on the coat tails of her victory. Half cocked grin and those eyes of hers a dazzling gold flecked Hazel green. The very same ones that went wide for a bit. Her elation turned to self consciousness, one that colored her cheeks a brighter ruddy hue the more awareness took hold.
The braid had set some waves to her thick dark hair, strands of it falling over her shoulder and onto Trextan. The tips would graze his chest, breath fanning them with every exhale he took. Half of her body was already pressed against his, along with the fact her straddle had her half on him. Suddenly finding herself flustered, choli lowered her gaze, the bag of crushed chips between them. She didn't even notice the light curl of his fingers over the front of her shirt, the girl offering a half, "Umm, thanks."

For all her bold jokes she was easily flustered under his gaze. Trextan didn't afford her any reprieve. His eyes searched hers, then dipped down to her lips and back up. Rapid breaths halted for a stuttered sigh out. It was Skor once more. He was dizzy, caught off guard. She was floundering, off-balance and falling.

There was a moment of clarity as he knew he had to reach up to catch her. He liked her. He wasn't sure he had at first. She was blunt, funny and adventurous. Just below her navel the fingers of his artificial hand slowly closed around a fistful of her scrubs. He didn't bite his lower lip, but his teeth could be seen pressed against it. He gave a gentle tug on her top as he lifted his shoulders from the couch.

But what if she doesn't like me?

The spinning plates that had been held high by an elated rush came tumbling down in a wave of teenage anxiety. Perhaps he was about to ruin everything. He'd closed have the space between them but came to an abrupt halt. His eyes widened, searching hers once more as if they might hold the answer.

Uhh....That was about the time Choli's mind seemed to turn to mush. It was one thing when they were horseplaying around and fighting over something as silly as a chip. Quite another when she half forgot to breathe, and Trextan was right there, suddenly tugging her down as he came up. W-What is he doing? The thought ran through her mind, pupils dilating in growing flustered alarm.

What the Young Justicar didn't know was that Choli was all talk, very little follow through. Or more like no follow through, at least when it came to sassing him with crude banter. Being with the Rogues not only meant that she was in the center of all that lewdness, but had also been sheltered in the aspect that those who were bold enough to try and have a go at Choli had been given the proper eyeful glare from the rest of the Rogues. Came with being the youngest in their squadron and perhaps despite their tendency at getting into trouble, had their own way of looking after their own.

So when Trextan tugged her down, the Epicanthix seemed to freeze for a second. Her pulse went fluttering at her throat, and it felt as if it was hammering at her ears. Now her breathing went spiking when he suddenly came to a stop, dark forelocks of his hair falling away from his face, those dark brown eyes searching her face. If she could get another shade of red, she did then.

"umm.." a stray chip fell from Trextan's belly onto the couch. Fingers gave a little curl along Trextan's shirt in growing nervousness.

"Lieutenant Commander Vyn." The abrupt sound of her rank and name suddenly made Choli jerk up, the girl scrambling to move into a sitting position.

It was one of the wards's on duty nurses, a Chiss with a clipped tone and, well maybe just in the girl's mind, rather judgemental red eyes.
"Yes!" Of all the worst and likely most embarrassing sense of timing.

Trextan was nearly overwhelmed with a mix of embarrassment and relief. It was an odd combination. In that instant, he had been certain that she was going to rebuke him and remove his hand from her top. It would have been a far worse fate than the Moonlight incident. They’d been having fun – even if his body was already reminding him that he was supposed to be getting bed rest – and he’d gone and ruined it.

She scrabbled away, and he yanked himself up using the back of the chair and nearly launched himself back to the far end of it. He straightened himself out, tugged down the fabric of his own top and faced the screen on the wall. His left hand faintly trembled against his thigh. Red in the face, he turned towards the nurse to see what was going to happen next. His gaze didn’t even stray to Choli this time.

The glower that set upon Nurse Mei's face would have been comical had it not been for the embarrassing situation Choli and Trextan were caught in. Mortification colored Choli's face with a hot wave of heat, her olive skin turning a bright shade of red, almost as if she'd had too much afternoon sun.

"Yes?" She barely managed to squeak out, the slight crack in her voice embarrassing her further. Hands swept over her shirt, smoothing it out, trying to calm the way her heart was jumping in recollection of Trextan's close proximity and how he'd been looking at her.

"This common room is for all patients. Please see to it that your behavior reflects that."

Oh hell.

Choli scrunched her fingers tight against the fabric of her pants, another awkward half press of her lips together and a quick nod.

"That goes for you as well Mr. Voidstalker." Oh please, please, please just go away. Choli not matched Trextan's position, sitting with her legs tucked under her on the far side of the couch, trembling a little bit in a bewildering medley of abashed alarm, anxiety, exhilaration, and flustered sputtering.

Behind them, the Nexu King broke into a song of the Dantooine phrase for, 'It means no worries.'
Oh, the irony.

Trextan mumbled: “of course.” The nurse gave the room a sweep of her gaze. It seemed she had actually been coming to find someone else. Trextan tried to convince his left hand to stop shaking, the surge of adrenaline and a sudden rush of embarrassment had his organic arm misbehaving more than the prosthetic for once.

“I’ll see if the Doctor will allow you both to the roof garden and mess. Perhaps you’re both just a little cooped up in here. Fresh air, yes.” On that note, the pair were left on their couch, tiny bits of crisps spread across it.

Damn, damn, damn, damn. I was going to kiss her. Nurse probably thinks that's exactly what was happening already.

Trextan opened his mouth to speak then closed it again. He turned towards her, saw her casting him a sideways glance, and then he snapped back to the film. The nurses were damn gossips too, he could hear them at their station every night.

Without warning, he snorted, then stifled a giggle. It came as a surprise to him. He sighed and picked a piece of crisp from the couch and put it in his mouth.

“I am so sorry.”

Choli was still mortified, fingers flexing and uncurling against the fabric of her pants. Okay, alright. Not a big deal. Just got a bit silly and --

Hazel eyes darted over as soon as she heard Trextan's snort and stifled a giggle. Wait was he laughing? When he seemed to nonchalantly just sigh and plucked a wayward chip to eat mid-apology, Choli felt genuinely confused.

For the girl, the whole thing was a bit overwhelming. Yet it appeared that for Trextan, beyond the flush of red that was no waning from his face, wasn't that big of an issue.

Funny how the mind can come up with their own assumptions and judgments. Had he just been playing with me?"

Self-consciousness arose, and Choli gave an abrupt, "It's okay." Turning her head away, her hair a wavy waterfall around her red face, a small blessing to shield it for a moment. She began to pick up the mess of chips that had scattered, keeping the swirling confused bronze of her color-changing eyes downcast for the moment.

Trextan frowned at her blunt remark. Suddenly he felt a little hollow. Was she annoyed at him? He turned towards her. He cupped his left hand off the front of the couch and started to sweep away crumbs. The Nexu King continued in the background as each sweep of his hand made a soft scraping noise on the fabric.

"It's kind of...not though. We were having fun but... the nurses talk and I nearly... well..." He was suddenly looking at the palm full of crumbs intently.

"You're not annoyed at me?" This time he did look at her, and it would be obvious the question mattered, even if it in of itself was liable to annoy her. Her opinion of him mattered a great deal, and he was far, far more concerned that she might not talk to him or go on adventures again. With his right hand, he grabbed another packet of chips and slid it in her direction. It only seemed fair.

If Trextan were keen enough to see, he'd noticed the slight tremble in Choli's hand as it came up to tuck the dark strands of her hair behind her right ear. Why did my face have to feel so hot?!

Assumptions and miscommunication at its worst. Her self-consciousness kicked up another notch with every passing second. Now it was Trextan's turn to stammer, his hesitant tone prompting a lift of copper eyes in uncertainty to him.

A new bag of chips was carefully slid over her. The corner of her mouth gave a twitch. A couple of more seconds and she gave a soft sigh.

"It's fine." She added, but with a little less venom. Choli took the bag of crisps.

A pause, then her lips turned into a thin line. She was confused, anxious, and still very flustered. Plus unsure of just what he had been aiming to do. Her mind went one way, and then actions went another. A thought crossed her mind and then she quietly said as she turned her attention back to the crumbs.

"I thought you were playing around and making fun of me." The Rogue admitted, moving to get up off the couch and brush off the rest of the crumbs that had collected on her blouse.

His head felt like a swarm of bees were buzzing around to drown his thoughts. He was far more embarrassed than necessary. The terse nurse had already almost forgotten the incident. He felt foolish, flustered and silly, all with a persistent undercurrent of sexual excitement. He couldn't help but notice the way she too shifted against her form as it was brushed down.

"No... no " he said with a shake of his head. "I wouldn't make fun... Well I mean I would but... Not like, cos I was..."

Wait did she mean that or his comment? He understood why she seemed slightly put out, but not why she had thought he was making fun.

"I did mean that about your eyes," he offered. He also stood and shook down the crumbs that had been crushed into his top. His left hand was still faintly trembling. He felt as if he needed an outlet to let some of this tension go, but didn't know what to do with himself. Instead, he just offered Choli a slightly confused smile and sat back down.

Now they were both acting silly, flustered, and totally not like one would expect a Lieutenant Commander or a Jedi Justicar to act. Then again, they were both only seventeen.

Another nervous hand ran her fingers through her hair, accidentally leaving a few crumbs from the chips there. Rocking on her feet, Choli wasn't sure if she should even bother clarifying. Maybe just leave it like that?

Considering the heat on both of their faces and how they were fumbling over their words, perhaps it would be for the best.

"Oh, " she replied quietly, feeling still a bit foolish. Where was the Rogue who was able to toss crude banter back and forth?

"Alright." Her bronze eyes went darting a few glances back and forth over to Trextan and then back to the holofilm. Now she was starting to feel rather stupid.

The alarm from earlier was bleeding into the adrenaline they had both built up. Antsy, and needing to keep her hands busy, Choli popped open the bag and proceeded to grab a chip to munch on.

"You've got..." There was a piece of crisp lodged in her hair by her temple. His hand was halfway towards her when it stopped. "Erm...Yeah, a crumb..." He retracted his hand quite quickly and pointed to where it was on his own hairline.

Trextan sat back down on the sofa and started drumming his fingers on his knees. The build up of tension was almost unbearable. He kept looking over at her and then back to the screen. He'd especially liked the colour of her eyes when she'd been hovering just over him.

"It would be good." He announced turning to face her properly. Talking gave him an excuse to gauge her reaction. Had she realised what he'd been about to do? "If they let us off the ward."

"Huh?' Eyes wide, Choli's hand automatically rose to mimic Trextan's gesture, unable to help the hitch in excitement and anxiety when he his hand had come up to reach for her. Another wave of embarrassment at the sudden frenzied finger combing to try and the crumbs off.

"Damnit." She cursed under her breath, lowering her head a bit so as if she could look up at her hair as she did so.

Stop being so stupid! The Rogue told herself, suddenly feeling the pressing need to only get swallowed up whole or leave. Even crashing again would have been preferable to feeling as dumb as she did then.

"Umm.. yeah." She replied, taking the change in topic gratefully. He likely thought she was acting like an idiot too. Awareness of Trextan colored Choli's mind now, and the more she focused on it - and how closed he'd been when he had tugged her down - the more she seemed to fumble.

"Rather than stick around here smelling like bacta."

That last bit came out as a mumble. She looked a right mess. The shirt had a small grease stain from the crisps that had been crushed between them, her clothing rumpled, and dark waves of brown hair floating over one shoulder as she brushed it through.

"Ah...No...It..." He brought up one hand again as the crumb just danced around in her hair with each comb of the fingers. They'd been pressed together so closely before, those eyes shifting with her surprise as they'd loomed over him and he'd tugged her down. Oh hell.

His metal hand came out and deftly took the crumb. "There," he said, holding it up before putting it back in the empty packet.

He was thinking about whether he should say more. Was he supposed to apologise again? Promise not to do it? Or ask if she had minded?

"Oh... If you can cheat with my arm..." He started with a mock affronted glare, "...Could you mess with the bio monitors?"

Choli had held her breath when he did so, barely feeling the smooth brush of the metal tips of his fingers before the offending crumb had been removed.

"Thanks." She said in a soft murmur of gratitude, straightening so as to give a rake of her hand through her hair. It brushed the strands away from her face, revealing those almond shaped eyes again that swirled in their indecisive gold flecked bronze hue.

When he mentioned his arm and what she'd done, it brought another grateful change of subject. Just so that she wouldn't think of just how much her heart had been pumping when she caught him staring at her face when he had come up to her and --

"I didn't cheat, you did!" She added sharply, but no venom intended. Just a little bit defensively.

A pause then a glance down a the bio-patches. Well...

"Yeah, guess I can." Those questioning eyes floated back to Trextan.

"Why?'

Eyes widened in feigned shock. "Cheating? There was no cheating on my part!" He grinned. As before with the chuckle a little euphoria had him swing back quickly.

"Could you, for instance, make them think we're still here when we were... Elsewhere?"

A snort and a mock scoff came from Choli. The inquiry was at least easing a bit of the tension, and when asked about her skills and what she was able to do, the Rogue was able to at least focus on another subject.

"Cheating." She added with emphasis, taking another bite of a chip with a loud crunch. She chewed quickly while she ruminated on his inquiry.

"Maybe... think so. Just will take me a bit to figure the bio-patch out." A sudden arch of her brow, "Why?"

"Well the nurse was right about one thing, some fresh air would be nice," he said. "Not that I want to get away from you!" He added quickly.

"I'm glad you're here," he explained. Then he grimaced as he realised how stupid that was. "Not like, glad you ended up in a bacta tank, or in the hospital. Obviously just...

"Anyway. We should ask if we can go before, well, cheating." Some of the colour had come back to his face again, and he let his hair fall over his eyes as he turned back towards the screen. Part of him wished he'd been less indecisive and just kissed her. At least then the air would be clear... One way or another. Actually, that was another stupid thought, it could have made everything far more complex.

Now he was fumbling over his words. Choli's eyes shifted from anxious nervousness to confused curiosity, a warm green flecking over the hazel. A slow blink and she thoughtfully chewed another chip - at this rate she was going to eat through the entire bag in the next minute - and asked, "... go where?"

It dawned on her again that meant the roof access or the mess hall again. Embarrassment once again colored her olive face.

"Oh, you mean outside." She gave a rock of her feet again, glancing around. Well, they could do that. And it would mean that it would keep her mind busy and make her feel as if she was doing something other than acting like an idiot. Get yourself together Choli!

"Yeah, we can do that.'

"Well...I was thinking the roof garden. Mostly 'cos people around the hospital are used to seeing people in pijamas and scrubs. Not so sure about heading out."

He gave a small shrug. Was she going to think he was just taking her somewhere they wouldn't be interrupted again? He wished he could read her eyes.

"I won't try and kiss you again!" He blurted out quickly. His lips screwed up, and he looked down at his lap. "Well..." He sounded as if he was backtracking now. "...I mean I'm not just..."

He gave a shake of his head at himself. He wished for the time when he was just showing off and not struggling for words.

"And I won't go using the Force too much of we have to sneak off," he said, rallying. "No showing off. Less showing off." He managed a smile as they reached the darkest part of the film. Crying at this bit would be the last straw that sent him rushing off the curl up in a dark cupboard with embarrassment.
