October Event Information Thread

Well you heard it here, I am planning another event. A lot of you probably already heard about this. I’ve talked with many of the Faction Owners about the event and getting factions involved. In addition I’ve talked with staff and am preparing prizes and objectives and story points even as we speak. I am not prepared to release full details of the event as its still several weeks away but I am willing to tease it with a brief. So without further ado;

Flashpoint: Argyra

Argyra was once a peaceful planet known for its beautiful beaches and ocean dominated terrain. The planets population was peaceful and mostly agrarian relying on the tourism trade to make a simple living. It was a peaceful paradise with little to offer outsiders save a restful holiday.

It was a lovely planet, a free planet, until a darkness descended upon the planet when their sun was eclipsed by a false moon. In the space above the planet an asteroid was taken from the nearby fields, placed into orbit. This rock was hollowed out for factories and shipyards, all the tools of the locals submission.

It was populated by men for whom cowardice and avarice were virtues. These men spoke often and said little often. To these men freedom was a vice and they came with a single purpose, domination. Argyra’s people were brought to heel quickly, having little in the way of defense, and force to work in great mines deep on the ocean floor.

It wasn’t enough, a single conquest turned to dreams of utter domination. Above the peaceful planet weapons of war were being constructed, mighty war droids and fighters. There was however something else, something the galaxy had not seen before. Deep inside the asteroid complex there was being constructed something the galaxy had not seen for an age….

A Super Star Destroyer.

Local resistance managed to get a message out to the galaxy of what was happening out on the rim, but will it be too late? Major factions across the galaxy scramble to claim the prize or neutralize the threat this goliath poses, for whomever possess it shifts the balance of power in their favor.

------------------------------------------

So now you’ve heard the brief of the event, now you are prepared and hopefully this event is being hyped up, but I need your help. More details including the custom planet submission will come on Sunday September 21st. On that day we will be a two week competition for both technologies and creatures to inhabit the custom planet. “Rules” on how to participate and gain your faction appropriate advantages/prizes will be posted when the competition goes live.

Now I am taking volunteers to help with this event. These volunteers could be assigned to anything from generic tech articles, prizes, to being a story judge for the event itself helping me keep things running. If you wish to become event staff please PM on the forum.

Any comments, questions, or concerns feel free to PM me.

I hope to beat Roche and Dark Harvest in one october swoop.

P.S. There will also be special event "rules" to try and dissuade powergaming based off my experience with previous events. These will be posted with further details on the event.

Honestly, I hate to say it, but I don't see why an event needs to have a superweapon. The rest of this sounds awesome. But the superweapon aspect just seems a bit gimmicky... like... are we doing the event just so someone can play with a superweapon? How does the superweapon actually contribute to the story or enjoyableness of the event? Why infiltrate a SSD I stead of a base? Or are you encouraging fleeting? How does that cater to and encourage the 'other' 90% of the board if the general concensus is now that fleeting is just background noise? (Btw, I find that guideline to be offensive and demeaning to those of us who specialize in such acrivities.)

Well likely there will be a little of both going on.

Personally the RHDF will be there with at least a pair of cruisers and a Medical Frigate if we can scrape up the people.

Fleeting was not background noise at Roche and it won't be background noise here. As for the rest, well you'll have to wait and see, but I trust that you won't prejudge the event before it happens.
