"Well, that was... interesting."

She was going to leave what happened on Zolan there, and move on from it as quickly as possible. Sometimes, the unexpected was exciting and exposed you to something you would have never experienced before, other times it was just weird. This day had just been weird, at least to her. She did glance over to her husband to see how he felt about it all, but then turned to Loomi.

The Padawan who had smuggled herself to Zolan on accident.

"Next time, please be more careful. You got lucky that you ended up with us two, and that we found you, but it could have ended badly." Valery wasn't scolding her as a Council Member, as much as she was just worried. She had always cared a lot about Padawans, so for one of them to endanger themselves like this wasn't easy on her.

Similarly, she knew Kahlil was not fond of exposing Padawans to danger too.

"And why were you hiding in that bush, anyway?" Valery then asked, a little confused about that part. Had she been afraid to get in trouble?

"Golly, I'm sorry," Loomi apologized, hanging her head. "I-I promise I didn't mean to..."

It had really been a genuine mistake. All it took was a little curiosity for her to accidentally wind up following the two to Zolan, which was already embarrassing in and of itself.

"And why were you hiding in that bush, anyway?"

"I... didn't want to get in trouble," the Godoan sighed.

It was really her worst fear of all, completely destroying the good will that she had managed to gain with the Order. It always felt like she was a few mistakes away from losing everything again. Of course, this wasn't the case, but Loomi's mind had a terrible habit of jumping to extremes.

"I-I haven't been in trouble yet," she noted, "S-so I guess not knowing what would happen if I did was kinda scary. I mean, there's only a certain amount of times I can get in trouble, right?"

There had to be. When did someone become too much of a problem. There had to be a cut off. She turned a way a little, her antennae flattening down over her face.

"Y'know," the girl mumbled, "Before I'm... not worth all the issues."

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil hummed a little as he listened to Loomi explain herself. It was.. Not right, in his mind. She shouldn't ever feel as she clearly did. So he cleared his throat and stepped over to her to reach down and ruffle the top of her head.

"You're a kid, Loomi. And even adults make issues and problems. People will do things that get them in trouble, no matter who you are. What matters is that you try to make up for those mistakes. But, again, you're a kid. Relax. You're not going to get sent away or kicked out because you mess up. That's a kids job, after all."

Valery's heart was melting, seeing the way Loomi was trying to explain herself. She wasn't really good being upset or angry with kids, and this really wasn't a case where she felt it was necessary either. Loomi clearly knew she had made a mistake, and wasn't the type of person to keep making the same mistakes, or worse ones. She had even been afraid to get caught purely because of how bad she felt about it all.

Not because she just wanted to get away with it and do these things again.

"He's right, so please don't worry. Just learn from what happened, and everything is going to be just fine." Valery placed a comforting hand on the Godoan's shoulder, and then turned her gaze away suddenly.

"Huh, the long-range receiver is bleeping. Someone reaching out?"

"You're not going to get sent away or kicked out because you mess up. That's a kids job, after all."

Right, she was still a kid. So much had happened that she tended to forget sometimes. She had only very recently been allowed to be a kid, so it was taking some getting used to. A smile came to her face as Kahlil ruffled her hair and Valery placed a hand on her shoulder. It was nice to have reassurance.

"Th-thank you," she muttered.

A beeping had caught her attention, as well as Valery's it seemed. Long-range receiver? What was that?

"Reaching out?" Loomi noted, tilting her head. "Like a holo-call?"

"It could be a call or just a transmission sent into deep space that we've picked up," Valery clarified for Loomi, before she turned to her husband. He made his way over to the receiver, and checking the signal did, in fact, reveal that a transmission had been sent out on long-range transmitters. Whoever sent it didn't care about who would pick it up either, as nothing about it was encrypted or protected in any way.

Anybody in this region of space could find and track it.

"...please.... we need.... Mandalorians!" The voice wasn't clear through all the static, but those words were able to pop out enough for the Jedi to hear them.

"...too many!"

With those final words, the transmission shut down, and they were left to wonder about what was happening exactly. Either way, the mention of Mandalorians had Valery frown, especially now that Loomi was here with them. They couldn't just ignore the call for help, but there was no time to first bring Loomi somewhere else.

"The signal comes from Linuri, which is only slightly off our current path," Valery chimed in carefully, her eyes fixed on Kahlil.

"...please.... we need.... Mandalorians!"

Loomi tensed up at the mention of Mandalorians. The recent news of their crusades had not been lost on her, even as out of touch with the wider galaxy as she was. If someone was being attacked then they had to help, right?

But there was no way she was skilled enough to face a Mandalorian. Ultimately she couldn't really do anything. This was a matter concerning Valery and Kahlil alone. A nervous look came to her face as she looked back to the two Masters. She didn't want to weigh them down if people needed them.

"W-what are you guys gonna do?" she asked.

Kahlil_Div2.png

A destress call?

Kahlil glanced briefly to Loomi before letting out a sigh. They couldn't very well ignore a call for help, could they? "We're going to go check it out. If it's too much trouble, you'll stay with the ship. But.. It'd be good for you to learn what might happen, right?" He couldn't keep over protecting the Padawans, could he? Not with war right around the corner. He smiled after a moment as he punched in the necessary coordinates to guide the Bastion towards Linuri.

"Just make sure you listen to what we say, alright?"

Valery watched Kahlil, knowing how much he hated bringing Padawans into dangerous situations. She felt the same way, although she was a lot more willing to do so if they were protected by experienced Jedi. Shielding them too much from trouble was also possible, and that would only hurt them in the long-run. But this actually felt like one of those cases where bringing along a Padwan wasn't a good idea, let alone one so young.

But they had no choice — they couldn't just ignore a call for help.

"We'll keep you safe, but stay alert too, alright?" Even leaving her on the ship was a risk. What if a Mandalorian or some other threat went around the two Jedi Masters and caught Loomi by surprise on the Bastion? But bringing her along would more directly expose her, so it seemed there really was no perfect solution. They'd have to adapt to whatever came their way.

Soon enough, the Bastion dropped from Hyperspace and entered Linuri's system. At a rapid pace, the three Jedi made their way down, and immediately spotted the problem. A decently sized group of Mandalorians in black armor flew over the spaceport, shooting down at guards desperately trying to defend it.

The greatest threat, though, were the two Basilisk war droids in the air.

"O-okay," Loomi nodded.

She just had to stay close and stay safe. That seemed simple enough... probably. Valery and Kahlil were experienced enough, so it seemed the safest option anyways. As they entered the system and came upon a space port, the problem immediately became clear. Mandalorians in black armor were firing down on civilians, and they had...

What were those? Ships? Battle droids? Both? Regardless, judging by the look on Valery's face they seemed to be the immediate threat. Small missiles fired out of the Basilisks, making Loomi wince. Those were definately the biggest threat.

If only she had her starfighter. She was a decent enough pilot, but more likely one of the Nobles would be able to make use of it.

"D-do we have a starfighter?" she asked. "I-I don't know if your Bastion can keep up with... whatever those are."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Basilisks. War droids."

Well that was a terrible sign. More of the crusade running through this far from Enclave space already? He frowned before glancing back to the two. "We're not going to be able to help with those shooting us. Go get in the turrets." He flashed a grin as he pulled on the controls. Thankfully the ship was made so they could keep their balance within, but the War Droids had already turned to start firing on them.

But with the Bastion as factory new as Kahlil had made it, it was going to be far quicker than they'd expect.

"I'll keep us from getting shot down."

Valery almost snickered when Loomi asked for a fighter, and turned a bit of a smirk in Kahlil's direction. The Bastion had been their home, but it really was his baby, so she wondered how he felt about the comment. Luckily, it didn't seem to bother him at all - he was confident that the Bastion could manage. Especially after all the work he had been putting into the ship.

"Don't have to ask us twice." Valery flashed a smirk in response and gestured for Loomi to follow her deeper into the ship. She'd then let Loomi handle the easier turret on top, while she took the turret at the bottom of the ship.

"I'm in position. Let's show them what we got," Valery said with that fiery sparkle in her eyes. The dangerous kind Kahlil knew all too well from her.

The two Basilisk War droids, however, were not afraid and began their attack run. Missiles were fired, and one tried to get above and behind the Bastion, while the other remained lower. "Opening fire!" Valery called out as she sprayed a series of bolts towards the lower one of the two.

"They're not easy to hit! Can you get us closer, love?"

Loomi was a bit surprised whenever she followed Valery to the gun. Their ship was bigger, but it could keep up with starfighter droid things? She was used to smaller meant faster, but it seemed that she needed to learn more about star ships.

She situated herself in one of the turrets nervously, frowning a little. This seemed... scary, mostly. Not just the danger, but also the pressure of doing well. Would they be mad if she missed? What if one of her stray shots ended up damaging the space port or hurting one of the guards? That would be bad, she imagined.

But ultimately she did compose herself. Everything was fine. She just needed to relax and let her instincts take over.

As Valery asked for them to move in closer, Loomi quickly moved to lock in on the Basalisk that had gone above. She took a moment to breath before taking a few shots. Three connected, not destroying the war droid, but damaging it significantly enough to send it careening into space very much on fire.

"I-I did it!" Loomi exclaimed, more in shock than anything. "I hit the thingy!"

The missiles would hit the Bastion afterwards.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil was all smiles at the helm. Two Basilisks were the perfect testing ground for preparing in the war. And, well, he still had a bit of pride as an Epicanthix to fight. He pulled the controls, sending the ship into a spin as the missiles came by, but it wasn't to evade. Rather, he spun so he could face them and raised a hand to pull on the missiles themselves and send them scattering around.

Towards the Mandalorians themselves.

"Good, keep going. We need to clear the skies!"

From her own turret, Valery was grinning from ear to ear to, sharing in her husband's excitement as they fought against the Basilisk War Droids. Perhaps it was strange for a pair of Jedi Masters to be like this, but it was simply who they were. The thrill of a challenge, of a fight, would rarely be lost on them unless it put loved ones in harms way. Right now, they did have a Padawan to protect, but Loomi was holding up well, too!

"Good hit, one more!"

This Basilisk fired its missiles, and before Valery could even try to shoot them down, Kahlil sent the ship into a spin. Valery blinked and went a little starry eyed, but when they finally got out of the spin, she let her husband's senses guide her through their bond. The missiles struck the Basilisk, and now she saw her chance.

"Now!" Valery called out to Loomi, before opening fire at the droid. Together with the Padawan's burst of cannon fire, she was certain they'd blow it apart.

"R-right!"

The Basilisk was right in their sight. Loomi followed Valery's lead, honing in on the droid and opening fire. With a little bit of effort, and some combined fire power, the droid was reduced to scrap and fire.

Loomi's heart began to flutter. She felt... excited? Accomplished? Maybe it was just the adrenalin pumping through her system. Regardless she was quick to get to her feet, a large smile spread across her face. She was at least certain that she felt pride, which was a first for the teen. She was usually very reserved and self conscious.

"I'm ready to finish this," she affirmed to Valery.

"Good shooting, Loomi!"

Valery kept up the earned compliments to encourage the young Padawan, and it seemed to work out quite well. One Basilisk had been shot down, and the second was now spiraling out of control after being hit by missiles and cannon fire. With those two taken out, the biggest threat was removed from this battle, but she knew better than to celebrate too early. Other Mandalorians had taken to the skies in their jetpacks, and plenty were still down below.

"I think we should try and get down to the surface," Valery said over comms while she opened fire at the Mandos up in the sky. They were much harder to hit than the Basilisks, and that frustration became quite palpable in the Force.

"Those little chits-" She muttered, but quickly stopped herself. "I uh, got one! The others are moving down again, so might be a good time to get low."

Loomi was definately less ready to open fire up on people, so she was perfectly willing to sit back and play support. Almost immediately she noticed how in sync Valery and Kahlil were. They were like more than a team. It was almost like they were sharing a mind. Were they sharing a mind? The force was far more complicated than she initially thought.

Regardless the plan was now put forward to go to the surface, which she much preferred. Loomi would be able to play support while she let the Masters take care of business. That was probably for the best.
