Kaili Talith
Forgotten, not gone.
“You both triggered the response when you passed the blood test.” The voice murmured as his eyes locked on to Allyson again before turning to look at the frying pan. “You might want to turn that off before it burns.”
“The girl, Kaili, would like that. She is safe, unharmed but overwhelmed. We assure you, we are not looking to cause any unwarranted damage to her mind.” The why of it was left unanswered, for now, as the blonde girl before them continued to well up in terror, joy and confusion.
“The Gulag Plague, the Great Disappearance… So much has changed since last.”
Meanwhile, within the confines of her own mind, Kaili was being force fed image after image after image in a manner that she had only experienced once before, unknowingly. Rave Merrill. Something was happening and the girl wasn’t quite sure what it was. She saw images of people dying, collapsing in the streets and cities being laid to waste. She saw great planes of a hell few ever returned from, she saw strife and death in droves and the total collapse of civilization. A people shaped from it that came together and the efforts they put in to reclaiming what they had lost. Isolationists by cause of immense misfortune and then…
Images of Allyson and herself.
Kaili struggled to breathe, so to speak, before finally finding the words to speak for herself.
“Stop! Just. STOP!” The words echoed through her mind. A clear cut shape of the very same man that had spoken to Allyson materialize before the Borleian’s eyes. “Please, just… Stop!”
“As you wish.” The man nodded and the images stopped.
Her temper was flaring again.
“I am Kaili, who the hell are you?”
“You may call me Undrar.” The man responded. “I am a peacekeeper.”
“Like feth you are.” Kaili growled.
“We understand that you are upset-” The man tried to calm her down.
“Like feth you do.” Kaili cut him off.
“There is no need-” He tried again.
“Feth you.” Kaili cut him off, again.
The man recoiled, blinked for a moment. “Perhaps we misjudged our approach.”
“No fething drek?” She blurted.
“You sure do like that word.” The man deadpanned.
“Feth you.” Kaili responded, fire in her eyes.
“And you have a temper to match.” A grin spread on his lips.
“Feth. You.” Kaili retorted, again.
“I can take the hint.”
“Wha-...”
The man faded into nothing, the world dropped from her mind and slipped back into reality. Tense muscles softened, a body slumped towards the edge of the counter with a panicking pair of hands reaching up to catch it before it was too late. The fall was softened, yet Kaili landed with her back to the ground regardless. Her entire body ached. She cursed beneath her breath as she struggled to get back up again.
“Your partner thinks very highly of you, Allyson Locke.” The man uttered before Kaili’s eyelids closed. “Far more than she lets on at times.”
“Given time, she won’t be the only one.” The man remained as cryptic as ever.
