One Sith Intelligence?

As I'm to become [member="Darth Veles"]' apprentice as a Sith Assassin, and I am aware that Veles is extremely skilled in this aspect, I think you should speak with him about this as well once he returns from his 4 day LOA. I'm still very much interested in this sort of a group due to the way my character is starting to work out for me, and the connections I've made with a few other factions through infiltration will likely assist this quite well.

Besides, what spy group is complete without a pretty face?

I want the organization to remain as closely modeled on canon as possible. This leaves us with two options.

We can either model our Intelligence organization on

1. The Ministry of Intelligence of the Sith Empire (Old Republic Era), or
2. Imperial Intelligence (from the Galactic Civil War era and onward).

The choice is up to us, and entirely dependent on what direction we see the One Sith going as a faction. Are we aiming for the One Sith to one day become like Palpatine or Krayt's Galactic Empire? Or are we aiming to be the Sith Empire eventually?

Playing a lot of SWTOR Imperial Agent Storyline certainly made me appreciate the Ministry of Intelligence.

I think that also works with working along with the Sith.

Would still like to be involved in this...

Could be the leader if no one objects, not that I care.

i'll end you irl if you object this, and i'll wear your skin when im done with you.

:)

Let's see what everyone else has planned and what direction we are going. We don't know what kind of Intelligence we are going for.

There might be a need for a section specifically for Force Users and then a different area specifically for cipher / agents that are NFU's.

There is an area for all! So let's brainstorm and see what happens!

The Palpatine-era Intelligence had a branch for Force users called the Inquisitorius. It mostly dealt with Jedi and such.

Otherwise, I think it would be hard, if not impossible, for a character to be both an Agent and a Sith at the same time, since both professions really require complete dedication. For example, Agents likely went through some kind of Imperial Academy before being selected and then received vigorous training once they were selected. But if you were training to be a Sith, you would likely be spending most of your life at the Sith Temple or whatever, and/or under the direct guidance of your Master, learning the ways of the Force.

It's kind of the same reason why Sith aren't really Generals. Admirals, etc. Nor do they need to be. Their authority gives them the ability to command large numbers of troops anyway and work alongside the Generals and Admirals when they're good enough, sometimes even directly command them.

That's why I think some professions are best left to the dedicated Non-Force user characters. Personally, I would say that if anyone wants to join Intelligence, it might be best to make an alt rather than join with your Sith character.

Got Lightning Running Through my Veins
I'm, well.... Barely a Sith. I don't use blades or anything really Sithy. I have a needler, a couple mechanical limbs, and a genuine enjoyment of Force Lightning.

Also, once my casino space station goes through the factory, we can start talking about getting contacts to meet up there.

I only meant as a contact, not as a specialized field agent. (Although I am being trained as a Sith Assassin under Veles, so eventually I could see myself being used as such when I'm not engaged in other thing.)

You should shy away from the Assassin aspect of the whole bit. That's not really how Intelligence Agencies work.

The structure of this thing falls into place organically, and should probably be dealt with last. That way, you only fill the ranks that are necessary and nobody occupies roles (especially integral ones) when they aren't actually doing anything.

To function, what you need is to separate 1)information we know from 2) information we don't know and identify the 3) information we would like to know.

Can anyone in the One Sith confirm what the Bard of the Hyperlanes looks like, or would they be fooled by an impostor?

You also don't want to conduct your own "spy" work personally. What you do is identify members of the other faction, figure out who is disgruntled, then tap them to spy for you. The goal is to not get caught, after all.

In the most recent invasion on Coruscant, OP deployed conventional units all over a dense metropolis (we really should've called them out on this. It made no sense at all.) -- If they had the proper geospatial intelligence, they would have recognized that this was a no-go.

The Cold War-era, James Bond approach has always been viewed as the sexier aspect of Intelligence, but, in truth, it's slow, subjective, and kinda crap. Slicers, recon pilots, economists, and general nerds are far more effective.

Interesting.

Please do elaborate, maybe we all mess some ideas together to get this going organically.

Well, the biggest thing that keeps Intelligence Groups in RPs non-functional is the fact that we don't actually consolidate or keep gathered intelligence. We send the agent off on a mission (if the spymaster has enough foresight or even motivation), they attempt to sabotage something, they may or may not pull it off, and that's that. They're just one more PvPer, really, but because they've resigned themselves to being agents, they float around without trajectory until someone else tells them what to do. An intelligence agent is frequently less than an actual soldier.

So, yeah. I remember we were discussing this at Sith Empire, but it never got off the ground -- a lot of this has to do with me being a crap administrator and a lazy poster in general, but I'll give you the idea for free.
Make a sticky thread, and on it, just list everything we know about rival factions. Anything that could be suspect. It could be as easy as a spreadsheet, a la:

Cira - Omega Pyre - Lady Protector - _Appearance Confirmed, X Faction confirmed, X Background/Capabilities/Whateverthehell Confirmed

Similarly, we could list military assets that, yeah, we've been able to confirm capabilities. Characters with "Clearance" can view this wall of text, and their characters will be able to use the information in a thread without metagaming because we'd attach links to the threads in which the info was garnered.

With this system, all members will become valuable intelligence collectors even if they don't directly utilize it themselves. Common footsoldiers can get eyes-on, say, Kiskla Grayson leading a squadron of troops into battle, make a report on her style, the effect of their weapons, on her armor, and, yeah, what she looks like, who she associates with, etc. It also grants agents missions through implication. "Does the board say we know about it? No? Then off you go, son. Go get us that valuable intel."

This is exactly what I'm aiming for and if we use either the structure of the Sith Empire's Ministry of Intelligence or the Palpatine Era Imperial Intelligence, both formats offer a variety of roles for Intelligence officers outside of simple "assassination" or whatever.

I'm considering just porting the canon systems over basically verbatim. But I would like to know where this faction sees itself going so that I can model Intelligence accordingly, for flavor purposes. Is our future more like the Sith Empire of the Old Republic era or are we aiming to be more like Palpatine or Krayt's Empire?

I love the idea of agents an infiltration.

This faction is built on it in fact!

please please please make it happen.
