[OOC] A Raven Republic

[member="Nyxie"]
No objections on my end, though I'd check with your folks first to make sure they don't tableflip lol If you want to work something out with the Mandos, you'll probably want to PM @Azrael. [member="Ordo"]'s on a LOA, though he may respond as well. If its something they need the Mandalorian Protectors for, they'll probably add myself or [member="Anija Ordo"] to the convo lol Or they'll just hit us up on skype. Whichever lol

I'm going to say this one last time, dude. The ship's own systems aren't being used. I have stated several times that it was dormant and have explained once already that the reason is because a ) the Gypsy does the same job and b ) the Gypsy won't light up light a Christmas tree when it does.

I don't know what equipment (beyond the mention of a datapad and personal software) the slicers are using, but I can assure you, by no means have I authorized them access to the Ulur'uur's advanced systems.

It would be best to ask [member="Cryax Bane"] and [member="Jen"] what they use to slice, and if there are any links handy. I'm not the slicing team. I'm just a droid floating through space.
So here's where it gets tricky RPing a slicer. In the Star Wars lore, there isn't as much about it is as there is about other skills like the Force. Alot of what slicers do heavily depends on assumptions made about the kind of technology that existed that (made-up) galaxy. Is a ship connected to the HoloNet? If so, then it could be argued that a slicer could probably make it in, even from a remote location. Why else would ships need anti-slicing mechanisms?

I don't do anything on these boards that wouldn't be allowed in my weekly pen and paper Edge of the Empire game. But maybe my GM for that game is much more lenient than is tolerated here?

I'm happy to edit something in the thread if it's deemed to be impossible, but I really hate to see folks getting into the habit of nitpicking what's possible or impossible in a made up world.

Besides you can always counter-slice. Problem solved?

See that is an interesting thing. technically holonet transceivers are supposed to be expensive forms of communications only on high end ships according the books. but here, holonet tranceivers are standard...so it makes it even more difficult when you have a place that uses both canon sources and our own made up stuff.

but i do agree with the slicing aspect. there aren't many slicers though. so most people can't counter us. ergo most think what we do is overpowered and complain. even though in this make believe universe, what we can do is pretty standard fare for anyone worth their salt.

Edit: Which of course isn't fair for us...but that's how the world works i'm afraid.

Slicing something remotely depends on a lot of circumstances.

Is the holonet transceiver hard wired into the same circuitry as the other ship systems?
Does the ship have intrusion countermeasures?
Does this helmet make me look fat?
What kind of power source is being used to transmit your wireless commands?
Is the target password locked?
Why am i still here?

Many variables that should all be worked out with the opposing writer so drama doesn't happen. Forethought the mother of success.

Yes you are right. But many times, most times in fact, not every situation is thought of and brought up. Sometimes its also nice to have a surprise or two for the other writers to have to react too. If everyone already knows everything that is about to happen. The story is no longer fun, because you are essentially rewriting a story twice. The point is, although there are I'm sure a myriad of ways you can shoot down almost every possible attack an enemy can throw at you. Why? Are we not here writing battle stories for fun? What fun is it to just get pissy every time the enemy throws you a curve ball you didn't expect?

With that said, if the attack made is just outright impossible, yes, call foul. But otherwise, let it go. Take a hit and try and work around it. Some of the best stories I have been apart of, was taking the hit and still figuring out a way to best my opponent. That's the stuff that makes stories you will recall and retell for years to come.

I'm just going to throw out what I think about this skirmish. Honestly, I did not find this fun which is what most writers who are doing this plan are feeling right now. And instead of having fun this angered all of the writers, but it I think it angered members of the Mandalorian Faction more than Red Ravens. Why? Because Red Ravens instantly spawned a skirmish thread without informing the staff of Mandos. Where's the communication? And those actions is what make people angry because I felt upset that a skirmish thread was thrown out without a OOC heads up.

Also, since it was a Dev thread and Judges would like a ten post Development Thread for beskar'gam or a creating a stealth ship then that would lead to the suspicion that Red Ravens would just do ten, quick, simple posts for a Dev thread that would get in and he out easily with no resistance coming from the Mandalorians. And what am I saying? It's not a suspicion because Red Ravens even said it on their forum that they were going to do ten, quick, easy posts before Mandos would react to it.

What I am saying is probably rude, but it's the truth. And sometimes the truth hurts.

In regards to PMing, the Ravens did begin a PM for figuring out a redo of the thread. Most of the Mando higher ups and Protector higher ups are in the talks at the moment.

And, yes, I did post this with Popo. Deal with it.
