As the anathema spawn swarmed Gray, Ardgal felt his mind go into a protective overdrive. Gray was his Alor, his leader. While the God-man was delusional in his beliefs, he was faithful, honorable, and recognized Gray's importance. The man was a mortal, only a mortal meaning he was killable, unlike Ardgal, who was immortal--in his own eyes at least.
The general's blade flicked left, cleanly slicing the throat of one of the Spawn throwing itself at Gray. The being fell to the dirt, choking on its own blood and slowly dying out. The general extended his other hand, the barrel of his side arm came crashing down on another's skull in a hammer fist that sent blood and gore flying everywhere. He twisted his blaster and fired a trio of shots, ripping through another's spine, vertebrae and sending it bouncing along the dirt at Gray's feet. The general took several bounding steps forward, running his blade through one's lower back on the left side. The stab punctured its kindey, spending a spray of blood out both ends of the wound and a hiss of agony. Still charging ahead, he flicked the body to the ground in a heap of withering crude death.
The largest spawn reared its arms back to crush Gray. It was a good half a meter taller than these other sprites, and much thicker. A hideous roar of blood curling rage emanated from its lips. Flecks of the acidic spit sprayed out, pelting everyone and everything it touched. Ardgal sprang off his foot, propelling every fiber of his being forward. His momentum had built to maximum effect as he sailed through this air. His helmet collided with the monster's head, cutting the roar short. Ardgal got a full view of this being's filthy face, its savage look of its disgusting face as his forehead made contact with its own. A centimeter to the left, right, up or down and he would have had more damage than he dealt by the precise but effective blow. He felt the cartilage of its nose give way under his metal helmet. The being stumbled back, reeling from the blow and the force applied to it. Ardgal's feet hit the ground with a satisfying feeling. It hadn't killed it, just disoriented it enough to buy them some time. This beast was horrifying and Ardgal could tell it was going to take some effort to take down.
