Poll: Your Feelings on PVP Combat

In a competitive PVP setting, how often would you say one of your characters has taken a serious hit

Personal curiosity. These aren't the best indicators or the best way of measuring them, not by a long shot, but why not.

Plz keep the thread civil and friendly. None of this passive-aggressive sneering at people who play Forcers or like big tech, please.

In the end, there's no point in fighting if you don't take a few hits, besides, you're supposed to be fighting, not dancing around everywhere like a bloody ballerina.

It helps if the other person takes hits too, and it can be nice to win, but don't let that take away from the actual story and the efforts of the
other person, it's like the age old rule of remembering the other person is a human being who is putting effort into things as well.

I like outsmarting people, I like being outsmarted. Let whomever is the most clever be the victor.
[Opinions...please don't eat me.]

I have a long, long, long history with PvP. I'm really just getting in to it IC on this board but I'd say half of my time RPing has been spent in PvP situations.

My favorites have always been the one where the victor is decided not by gadgets or force powers or snarky side comments about how dumb another person's move was. I LIVE for story-based PvP in which a winner is decided based on skill, realism, creativity (this is huge), and above all: SPORTSMANSHIP. If I lose I want to say I wrote my little heart out and had a great time so it was worth it - I can totally say that for Matsu's arms, and definitely for all the battles and duels I've had here and on other boards.

As someone who's wrote PVP for ten years, I wholeheartedly agree with [member="Matsu Xiangu"].

Tech, Force powers, or gadgets were never even a factor in duels I was in until I got here. I will fight anyone on this board with robes and a lightsaber or minus the lightsaber if you want.

Just give me a good time, hit me please, and let me hit back.

I have a personal disdain for competitive pvp. Mostly because it's called competitive. There's nothing to actually win or loose. I write PvP for a story, and when I fight people who go out of their way to tear apart anything someone may write to make their posts look more valid instead of chatting OOC, I turn and walk the other way.

Competitive pvp is no fun.

Collaborative pvp is.

I try hard to win, because competition can be a lot of fun, but most of my favorite duels were draws (Na'Varro, Moridin a couple times, Matsu Xiangu, Darron Wraith a couple times) or losses (Akovin, Kaine vs Shule, etc.).

To be honest, I never understood PvP. Seems no matter what I do, I do it wrong according to those I fight.

Thought I did have 2 or 3 very enjoyable fights where I wasn't called a godmoding donkey and which both sides enjoyed. I think it really depends on the opponent.

Actually, thinking about it, maybe I understand PvP and my opponents were the ones not getting it. Or maybe we all understand the concept differently and it's not compatible?

I think our first training thread was going just fine, in terms of pvp. I think you have it down pat when it comes to lightsaber dueling.
