Strengths:
- Fast Attack Destroyer: Boasting speeds above the norm for a ship of its size and class, the Providence is designed for harrying engagements, moving just into weapons range for a broadside before ducking out again, or keeping their opponents at range while the Javelins pick them off from a distance.
- Exotic Long Range Weaponry: Boasting three Javelin Hypervelocity Cannons, an older but still extremely reliable design still utilized in many of the older vessels still serving in the Defense Fleet. The equivalent to one hundred and twenty turbolasers with extreme long range effect and accuracy, the Javelins effectively turn the Providence into an auxiliary sniping platform.
- Slim Profile: The arrow shape design of the Providence takes a lesson from the Imperial playbook to fit a maximum number of weapons emplacements on as small a target as possible. Making the Providence somewhat slightly harder for weaponry to track and apply damage with maximum effectiveness.
- Exposed Observation Tower: Much in the same vein as the standard star destroyer design, certain critical components of the Providence are contained in sections of the ship more exposed and less shielded than other models of its class. Enough lucky shots or concentrated firepower directed by a skilled battle commander could wound and even cripple the Providence early on in an engagement.
- Exposed HVC Hardpoints: Slung along the entire length of the destroyer both above and below, the placement of the Javelin Hypervelocity Cannon hardpoints renders them likewise vulnerable to precision firing. Enough hits to a hardpoint can knock an HVC and even cause secondary explosions throughout the destroyer, effecting damage to its hull.
- Exposed Hangar Bays: Where other vessels may have additional armoring or more jagged architecture around their landing bays, the smoother design of the Providence's hull leaves them vulnerable to raking fire, enough to be taken out of commission completely by enough starfighter runs and even penetrate into more critical systems deeper within the destroyer's hull.
Description:
SoroSuub's first foray back into the field of warship design in some time, the Providence project is another controversial piece of the corporation's development budget helmed by Deputy Director Darksword. In an attempt to provide some new alternatives to the Galactic Alliance Defense Fleet in terms of light destroyers, the design phase for the Providence began after several consultations with High Command and several high profile flag officers within the GADF who had noted to senior officials with admiration the combat capabilities of the Rigovinda StarYards Providence-X-class. Eager to add such combat potential to their own armada, but possessing an overabundance of carrier designs, High Command reached out to Ringovinda through SoroSuub Corporation. Unwilling to compromise the integrity of their own design and its brand recognition by making custom modifications en masse, at the urging of Alliance High Command SoroSuub engaged in a deal to purchase the original design schematics and work with Ringovinda to iterate on a redesigned variant specifically for the Defense Fleet.
An effective design but often maligned due to unfortunate associations with organizations of ancient and half forgotten history, the Providence represents a new wave of lighter, more flexible combat designs. Scaled up several hundred meters from the Ringovinda carrier, the SoroSuub Providence is fitted out with the best in Omega Pyre weaponry, including the famed Javelin Hypervelocity Cannons that give the light destroyer some long range scrapping power. The assault boat is not without its weaknesses, however, for several fundamental flaws in the ship design long since exploited by opponents even to the point of winning galactic civil wars, give the Providence several potentially devastating Achilles heels that can cause significant problems for the light destroyer if exploited by an extremely skilled tactician.
