Quality vs Quantity?

If I write out a 3 paragraph, detailed battle scene and you respond with "lol kek i block your attack", I'm going to get angry. And then to find out that person is a Jedi or SIth Master? Seriously?
The chances of you meeting a single person who is like that is slim, I can literally count the number of people on the site who would respond or write in such a way with one hand.

bios should be looked at to make sure nothing edging near God-Modding is happening.
A bio being checked/looked at/judged literally will do nothing to prevent god-modding, besides making people adhere a bio to a standard.

Whenever I feel the way you do, I often ask myself some questions. Things like, how do I learn to deal with this? What are my options? And, how can I help the website improve in areas I feel are a little bit lacking. Here's some answers I've come up with since,

  • Q: How do I deal with this?
  • A: First. I understand that my frustration is a choice. Built by myself upon a certain perspective or a comfort zone. And I reassure myself that being outside my comfort zone is healthy and that my perspective of what is 'good' writing, is arbitrary. I'm here to have fun. Not to critic other writers. So then I disengage my inner critic, reread the thread, and realize I'm not frustrated anymore. I'm anxious to just get out there and share.

That's just how I personally help myself. Here's another one,

  • Q: How can I help the website improve in areas I feel might be a little bit underdeveloped?
  • A: Education. I create guides, tutorials, blogs, discussions, and other invitations for writers to learn and grow. In this way other people can see what I've built, how I've built it, and can learn to do similar. Simply by reading, threading, and experimenting likewise. I understand my way is not the 'highway'. But it is a very strong form of success for me.

Last, but not least, is that I understand what the Website Owner is looking for in his website. What he priorities. Not, what I prioritize. After all. Tef's pretty cowboy. He's pretty 'sink or swim'. That said, he never shy's away from popular opinion and is always eager to face a problem or suggestion head on. I see the way he Administrates, fosters new talents, shrugs when the children fight, and always pushes community development back into the hands of the writing community itself.

In these ways I learn to curb my own opinions about 'Quality' and 'Quantity'. I respect other writer's playstyles, see shortcomings as being healthy and normal, embrace change and seek to drive education, and I respect Tef's initiatives and his vision of ownership. In this way I come to understand that the only thing that needs to change? Is me.

Because this is my experience and I'm going to make it a great one. No matter what. :D

Deal with it on a case by case basis, that makes sense for you. Don't try to impose your standards on others OOC on mass, IC sure have a blast imposing away. Chaos is a much bigger site than any one man or woman OOC, one of the reasons it is so big, is because of that freedom to write whatever you want within the sphere of starwars, its then down to others whether they want to join you or not.

You can be a force god and have a fun thread, duel or whatever. You can be a mouse with no skills whatsoever and have a fun thread, duel or whatever. You can be either and have no fun whatsoever, depending on your choice of character, plot, and most importantly how you get on with a fellow writer and/or character.

One tip is to pick those who you'll gel with when it comes to threads. Can't always certainly, I know this but also you are just not going to write well with some folk, and some you are just outright going to hit barriers with, nothing wrong with that at all, just life. I do make a point of trying to thread with lots of writers, so I do challenge myself, but while sometimes its golden material, others it just doesn't work out. That's natural.

Finally - Some people write a little, some people write a lot. That's all there is to that.

Likewise with bios, I can advise people if I feel that they shouldn’t be Darth Vader’s daughter, but I won’t actually force them to change it until it becomes an issue to the board.
You've finally discovered my secret...I am the Dark Lord's forgotten immortal child.

Ohp....wait. Yah you're right.

My bad. I always confuse KV-1 and T34. KV has a longer back now that I look at it better and a different turret.

The Tiger I makes sense, lol. But lets be honest here, after Panzer III-IV the box top start to blend together. :p

After reading every reply in this thread I'll voice my thoughts on how folks write....

I like writing with new writers. I find watching their Character and skill development interesting. Plus there is this thing called PM where you can coach them in their writing ways.

As a note, all canon items must be earned. You can’t acquire Luke’s nail clippers just by saying it. The acquisition must happen in RP and be approved before it’s accepted.

So yes, people might have canon items for frivolous reasons, but at least they’ve earned them.

There is a phrase I have heard from many people, in many forms. Roughly it goes, "Write like man in the rank above you, with the power of the man below you."

if you feel that someone is better than you at writing, then go and ask them to help.

Almost all of this discussion is about "Get rid of the guys who write poorly" when it should be more along the lines of, "How can we help others who want to write at a higher standard?"

At a site I used to belong to, we had a forum made just for the use of "teachers" who would have someone write at the best they could, and would then, unbiased mind you, critique them. It would only be that one person or set of people that would do so. And if they wanted more help in other than that thread, they could contact them, and do an actual thread.

If we could do something more like that, instead of alot of this bickering, then we might, just might, be able to raise the standard of writing of knights and Masters around here.
