Rest, Relaxation, and Shotguns

Lor shook his head a little bit.
"No, you didn't. You just asked me what every girl probably asks the guy they want to stay with. I just don't think I'm ready to make anything other than a personal commitment to anything. Maybe someday I will be, and when that happens, my answer might be different. You and I can have children, but I'd rather be sure we're both in a situation that won't be horrible for them."
He felt himself tear up a little as he leaned his forehead against Rawnie's unhurt shoulder.
"I'm sorry. I really am."

She kept her face turned away so that he couldn't see the pain in her eyes. There was hope. There was always hope, but for how long? She wondered if she might be better off finding a nice mandalorian boy. someone who could understand her urgency. Someone uncomplicated... boring. If it was just her goal to marry and raise little warriors, she probably would have done that by now though. She'd been taught the importance of family, but...

"Aliit ori'shya tal'din," she whispered, mostly to herself.
Family is more than bloodline. A wise phrase.

"Alright," she sighed, kissing him over his heart, "I will wait with you until that time. And if it never comes, at the very least, I had you with me."

Lor's fingers ran across Rawnie's cheek again, and he finally smiled again.
"Csei csihn csarcican't van, Rawnie."
That day will come. He was sure it would. Deep down, it might've already, but he wasn't sure of himself.

She didn't understand what he said at all, but she smiled anyway. No future was guaranteed. Anything could happen. Tomorrow may never come. She could die. He could die. It was always a possibility. Life was short. That was what made it beautiful.

She closed her eyes. What would come would come in it's own time. Planning was pointless.

"Ni kar'tayli gar... darasuum, Lor'ika."

Darasuum. Forever. After death. Beyond. She took her vows seriously. Her mother had to. She was putting herself in a very dangerous position. She'd seen how much this could hurt when it was over. But that was not now, not this moment. He was here in this moment, and that was enough.

Like before, Lor could guess what the words in Mando'a meant. And also like before, they made him want to hold Rawnie as close as he could. He nuzzled her again, closing his eyes as the adrenaline finally began to wear off, and he felt sleepy. His voice was almost nothing more than a tired mutter, but he smiled as he spoke.
"Ch'ah csarcican't cart veo cacasn, visahot."
The deepest sort of affection he could describe. Possibly deeper than love. Loyalty to her, as long as he lived. That thought would have felt nicer to him if his head hadn't collapsed into his pillows a moment later.

He was so sleepy. She watched his eyes close, his words still lingering in her thoughts. What did they mean? She didn't have to ask. It was a vow. One said with all his heart. She didn't need to know exactly what it was. She trusted him. Above anybody, she trusted him.

She lay her head down on his chest again, his steady heart beat lulling her to sleep.
