Rule Submission

[member="Raziel"]

Well that is an idea, the only reason I would say no to it at this point is it appears most of these items have been for crafting purposes. Then again, isn't my call. You guys are the bosses.

If a submitter has been made to significantly limit the number produced of a submission because it seems unbalanced, but then goes and makes more copies I feel this comes under rule 14. In this instance I'm not convinced the original submission should have been approved, but it's not yet been reported.

I know the Factory is not really my field, but since this is posted in the Judge Discussion area I'll throw in my opinion on the matter.

The new rule suggested here seems to me to be really tricky to police. Judging a sub and denying it based on "it feels too similar to something else" feels vague and a bit redundant, as you can draw inspiration from others but plagiarism is not allowed and already stated in the rules. I know this particular instance may be different, but if the rules are changed then it becomes the standard we judge all members by. How would it play out differently from now?

Again, the Factory isn't really my area of expertise, but to me rule 3 and 14 on plagiarism and deceiving judges seems to cover this. Perhaps only a precedent needs to be set on pulling them out to enforce situations like these?

I see you logic, but if the sub is a carbon copy of another sub by the same person then it would be plagiarism as they are the original writer.

Also I thought of another helpful rule that could be added.

A judge reserves the right to pull an approved submission and reexamine it should it appear to be used in violation of the rules or being abused.

Honestly, the board is great at mitigating abuse by itself. If someone abuses an item, they are quick to reporting. Adding extra rules for this when we already have the one about trying to go around a judge is a bit too much.

We can use what we have.

Good initiative Lynn, but we are okay with where we are at now.

Every submission will be treated independently without having to look at precedence.

We are going for balance of strengths, balance of weaknesses, and fair play. No amount of mass crazy development can go over these three pillars that will be our new Factory going forward.

Don't worry [member="Cira"] I fixed your speech.
