"Welcome to our home."

Valery smiled warmly after the Bastion had landed in a wide field of grass, just outside their new home. Far larger than their old apartment, and built with Keshian architecture in mind, it already felt so much like home to the Nobles. But the large gardens, the forest just beyond it and even the Epicanthix settlement all made it feel like a far more welcoming place than Coruscant ever could.

This is where Valery wanted to raise her children with Kahlil, and live a long, happy life together.

Today, though, the Noble house would also become a temporary place of residence for one of their Padawans. It wasn't the first time, and certainly wouldn't be the last - they would always share their home with Padawans if they needed it. Valery also felt certain that the kids would love Katherine.

Although, she'd have to be careful with her wings around the grabby triplets.

"Hey love? We'll give her the large guest room upstairs, okay?" She smiled warmly and reached for his hand to squeeze it. "I think the kids know we're home too. I can feel Vera and Aris approaching."

During Katherine’s time in the bacta tank, she had dreamt. And for the first time since she had arrived on Coruscant, there hadn’t been a single nightmare to haunt them. It was like her mind was trying to catch up on all the dreaming she had missed out on. Of course, upon waking she couldn’t recall the majority of them. But the Padawan remembered two.

The first was of her sitting in a room, as a child playing with something. Katherine couldn’t recognise the place, but it felt familiar. And more importantly, she felt happy. Nor was she alone, two others roughly around the same age were also playing with her. Their faces were obscured, but she could identify one as blonde, and the other as a brunette.

Her other dream had been a bit older than the last, sitting outside atop of some building. Again she couldn’t identify anything, but Katherine noticed the sun was gradually setting beyond the horizon. And the young teenager was drawing it.

Upon waking up, the Nobles had informed her of their plans to take her to their home. Katherine had heard of it in passing, but this would be the first time she’d see it in person. Suffice to say, the Padawan accepted the invitation. But not before making one request.

She wanted to get some drawing supplies, specifically a sketch pad and pencils.

Given the technology easily at hand, the choice was particularly mundane. But it was a choice Katherine made because it reminded her of home. It became the Padawan’s focus during their flight to the Epicanthix Colony. She’d draw anything and everything that caught her interest. Be it parts of the Bastion’s interior, the view from the cockpit, or random ideas that came to her. There were even a few doodles of runes she remembered Kahlil using in the past.

By the time they finally landed, Katherine had already filled a few pages of her sketchpad.

The Padawan was looking around, her eyes wide with wonder as she took in the sights around her. “Wow…the pictures do not do this place justice.”

"It's a big place, but not too big, I think. Feel free to go where you like. It's as much your home as it is ours, Katherine." He offered a kind smile as he stepped past and into their home. He knew pretty well how much both their Padawans never truly felt at home in their home, despite them very much belonging.

"I'll go get the room set up, but please, feel at home here. That's why we brought you here."

While Kahlil went to prepare Katherine's room, Valery guided the young woman over to the more spacious living room. Both to show off where they'd be spending a good amount of time and...

"Woah!"

Vera grinned as she looked over at Katherine, "You're so pretty!" she added, her eyes of course fixated on the wings as well. She had never seen a person with wings before, so this was very cool to her! "Aris! Come onnnn," she yelled and whined at the same time to get his attention.

"Daddy's Padawan is here!"

Valery chuckled and placed a hand on Katherine's shoulder, "The kids, except for Aris, can be a little... energetic, but they mean well. If any of them get too much, let me know."

Katherine couldn’t help but smile as she was guided into the Noble’s home. Everywhere she looked there was a clear personal touch to the decoration. A stark contrast to the very traditional styling of the Jedi Temple, not to mention her sparsely decorated room there.

Barely seconds into the living room, and Katherine was greeted by the oldest of the Noble children. The winged Padawan bowed her head, trying to hide the blush that immediately spread across her cheeks.

“Thank you Vera, that’s very nice of you to say.” Katherine looked back up, flashing a smile towards the girl. Which was followed by a chuckle when Vera suddenly yelled for Aris to show up.

She raised an eyebrow, glancing over at Valery as the woman placed a hand on her shoulder. “I will, don’t worry. Master told me a few stories. Although something tells me that hasn’t prepared me enough.” Katherine chuckled again, shifting her gaze over as Aris made his appearance.

Aris stepped in, calmly sipping at a cup as he always seemed to be. Stay hydrated, remember to drink water. It was a lesson he took to heart. That, and it gave him an excuse to ask mom for more hot cocoa when he had the mug in hand. For now, just water. He sipped slowly, glancing up to Kahlil as he stepped past with a brief smile. Kahlil returned it as he reached down to ruffle the boys hair, then set about to go get the room ready.

Aris, though, turned his silver gaze towards Katherine.

"You are very beautiful. Are all Jedi beautiful, mom? Cora was the same."

Was that a criteria for being a Jedi? He frowned as he thought on it. He would have to redouble his training, he figured, to include beautification.

"Well, not all Jedi I suppose," Valery said, her mind instantly going to their new Councilor for a moment. "But we do tend to take care of our health, and that makes many of us beautiful. It's not a requirement though," Valery said with a chuckle before she ruffled her son's hair as well, and looked at his cup. She knew what it meant when he was bringing that around, especially when she hadn't been home for a bit.

He was probably craving some cocoa.

But while Valery calmly explained Jedi beauty to Aris, Vera had other plans. "Ohhhh, Aris likes Kaaaaat!" Vera teased with a big grin while she looked at him with the most annoying, smug grin she could muster.

"Vera..." Valery said with a sigh, as she pinched the bridge of her nose.

The winged Padawan blinked owlishly at Aris calling her ‘beautiful’. Sure, it was very much a child that had said it, but the compliment struck Katherine all the same. She let out a chuckle, nodding along to what Valery had said.

“Your mum is right, it’s not a requirement per se, more of a by-product. An important part of our training as Jedi is keeping physically fit. So it builds up the habit of keeping oneself at their best overall.”

Vera’s comment brought a laugh to the surface, one that Katherine tried to stifle. Only for it to come out as an amused snort. The Padawan immediately slapped a hand over her mouth, doing her best to stop any further laughter.

"I am indifferent one way or another on her, for I do not actually know her." Aris rather calmly corrected Vera before rather casually passed his mug towards his mother. He very much wanted her Hot cocoa now.

"I am sure I will like her though. Our Father wouldn't take on a Padawan he himself didn't, and I trust his judgement."

"Boooriiiing," Vera countered with a giggle, but the young Noble then went quiet as Aris offered Mom his cup. Valery took it with a smile ruffled his already messy hair, and smiled warmly, "I'll make you some cocoa, sweetie. You two be nice to the guest, alright?" She asked and turned around to leave, but a gentle whine from Vera pulled her eyes back to her daughter. She was pouting just a little and looked up at her mother with pleading eyes.

"Can I have some cocoa too, Mommy?"

Valery blinked, then smiled and nodded, "Of course, little star. I'll be right back."

In reality, Vera didn't care that much about hot cocoa at all and rarely drank it. But if Aris was getting his special cocoa made by Mom, she wanted it too. It was a bit of jealousness showing in her, but she couldn't help it.

"Aris, wouldn't it be so cool to have wings like Katherine?!" She then asked, her excitement bursting out again. "I wish I could fly! Is it fun?" she asked the Padawan.

Katherine chuckled lightly at Aris’ answer, he was very much his father’s son. Responding to his sister’s teasing with a straightforward and logical answer. It was a little strange to be looking at a younger, spitting image of her Master. But given what little she knew of the child’s origin, it wasn’t much of a surprise.

The Padawan smiled as she watched the two children interact. As much as Katherine didn’t remember her sisters, there was a familiarity in Vera’s actions. Of a sibling not wanting to be left out, if their sister or brother was getting something, they wanted it too.

She couldn’t imagine what it’ll be like once the triplets were the same age.

Vera’s excitement was met with an enthusiastic grin from Katherine. “They are pretty cool, aren’t they?” She said, stretching out her wings a little, though nowhere close to their full length. “Flying is a lot of fun, although you have to be careful where you go. Coruscant has a lot of flying vehicles.”

"They seem almost impractical. You must have trouble trying to deal with buildings like ours. Do you have to keep them close at all times? Is it uncomfortably stiff when you can't freely spread them around?"

Aris had far more questions. Far, far more. He was very much his father's son, but without the temperedness of Kahlil's unending curiosity. Just the raw desire to know and learn. He gazed over the white wings, already seeming to try and figure out on his own on just what sort of balance and care would be needed to keep them in tip top shape.

Vera shot her brother a look, the way her mother sometimes glared at Kahlil when he was nerding out over runes again. He was asking all the boring questions! She wanted to know the cool things, like... "Can you fly really high? And really fast?!" she exclaimed excitedly, uncaring that they were literally bombarding Katherine with questions about her wings at this point. But these were the important things to know, so they had to be asked.

"I want to fly with you!"

Maybe Katherine could carry her while she'd fly around? Was that rude to ask? Vera blinked and was about to just throw it out there, when the smell reached her. She turned, and there was her mother with two cups of hot cocoa in her hands.

"One for you," she told Aris as she offered it and kissed atop his head, "And one for you, little star," she said, and Vera smiled brightly while she took her cup.

"Do you want a cup too, Katherine? I made enough."

Oh, he definitely takes after his father.

The Padawan couldn’t help but smile as Aris pointed out the more ‘negative’ aspects of her wings. For as much as Vera was excited about the more fun side of it, her brother was more focused on the details.

“You're correct Aris, I do have to keep them folded in while I’m inside. But as long as I’m able to stretch them now and then, they’re not too much of a bother. Think of them as just another pair of limbs.”

And that wasn’t going into the ordeal that was trying to find suitable clothing. Sure, there were other bi-pedal races out there that had wings. But they weren’t common enough for there to be whole clothing stores that accommodated them.

She turned to look at Vera, and chuckled at the girl’s enthusiasm. “I can fly pretty high, and fast too.” Although, she had yet to test just how high and fast she could go. “That’ll be up to your parents to give the okay, if so I’d be happy to fly you around, both of you.”

Valery returned with hot cocoa in hand, taking a moment to hand them out to both children. Katherine raised a slight eyebrow, before smirking a bit. “Well…” She began, sparing a glance towards Aris and Vera. “I suppose if everyone is having a cup, it’s only fair.”

"Mom makes the best."

Aris nodded once as he lifted his cup to take a sip. There it was, the delicious hot chocolate only Valery could make. He smiled a bit like a fool, clearly unaware of as much, as he took yet another sip. "I wouldn't mind flying. It certainly seems very different form a ship."

Valery smiled brightly at Aris' compliment, but Vera was far too focused on the idea of Katherine flying them around to really appreciate her hot cocoa as much. She did take a sip, then turned to grin at her brother, before turning to her mother with big, pleading eyes. Valery knew that look all too well because she turned it against Kahlil whenever she wanted something. It never really worked, but Valery couldn't resist it.

"Uh... why are you looking at me like that, sweetie?"

"Can Katherine fly us around?!"

Oh dear, of course Vera wanted that. Valery smiled sheepishly and looked between the older Padawan and her two kids. Even Aris seemed interested in going for a flight.

"...go ask your dad."

"Okay!" Vera was quick to exclaim. "DADDYYYY?!" She yelled as loud as she could. Surely, he had finished up preparing Katherine's room by now, right?

"We wanna fly with Katherine!"

Like mother, like daughter.

Katherine bit back a laugh as she watched both Valery and Vera. The latter had unleashed the all-powerful ‘puppy dog eyes’ upon her mother, at least that was what the Padawan had heard it be called.

When Valery looked her way, Katherine just gave her a sheepish shrug. It was almost an inevitability that the kids would ask to fly once they had seen her wings. At least here, there would be plenty of space to take flight, without risk of flying into a vehicle or two.

“Master told me a few stories, but they’ve really taken after you both.”

Katherine smiled as she watched Vera step away, calling out to her father. Aris seemed to have followed her, likely to provide back up in convincing Kahlil.

“I know I said it plenty before we left and on the way here, but…” The Padawan’s voice became quiet, as she glanced over to Valery. “Thank you for this. It means a lot to me.”

Kahlil made his way back downstairs, rubbing at the back of his neck. He already heard the question through the bond with Valery, but he was more curious how Katherine herself felt about it. A look towards her, and, well, he shrugged.

"So long as she's fine with it, I don't see why not. The skies here have virtually no traffic, asides from actual birds."

"Of course, we're happy to have you here," Valery said after watching the kids rush for their father. Though... they were very quick to return when the answer was yes. Valery hadn't really expected that at all, and looked at her husband with quite a grin now. Vera flying again? It reminded her of that day she grabbed a kite at the Pasana festival, and ended up flying high up into the air. That... had not been planned.

"Alright, but be careful with them, okay?" She asked Katherine, clearly with that worried mom tone. She loved being a gremlin, and would have jumped on the chance to fly as a kid herself, but her own children doing it was scary. What if they fell or got scared up there? She wouldn't be there to comfort them.

"Mommm," Vera whined. "We'll be fiiiine!" She giggled and looked at Aris.

"Do you want to go first? If Katherine is okay with it..."

The Padawan chuckled at just how quickly both Vera and Aris returned the moment they had gotten their answer. Katherine raised an eyebrow at Valery’s grin towards Kahlil, wondering if the two were doing that whole ‘silent conversation’ thing.

She gave Valery a reassuring smile and nod. “I promise, I’ll keep ‘em safe.”

Katherine turned to face the kids, “It’s okay with me, the decision is up to you two. But you’ll both get a turn.” Although, by the end of it Katherine knew she was going to be exhausted. For as much as her Master had put her through a lot of physical training, it was going to be a different experience carrying someone while flying.

At the very least, she was going to be out like a light once her head hit the pillow that night. That, and it was no doubt going to build up one hell of an appetite.

Speaking of which…

“I hope neither of you have eaten, or at least haven’t got full stomachs. I can’t say how it’ll feel for you both once you’re up in the air.”
