Separation of Jedi and the G.A.R.?

He is grounding his opinion based upon events he witnessed and was a part of. He is appealing to first hand testimony, not blind loyalty. Please try and not be so dismissive.

And I am sure that there are people that agree with Ryan. Obviously there are. However, I am just putting forward what I have seen over years of RPing and have witnessed. I am not the best leader to ever arise, but I think my successes far outweigh my failures. I think that you will find that [member="Tefoch"] would agree with that, if he was not just making fun of me :p So I am not some blathering fool.

Let me know when you want to help put effort into the faction through RPing and OOC leadership instead of just commenting from the peanut gallery, I would love to work with you.
Let's be honest, no you wouldn't :p You know that, don't lie lol. I am not proposing to try and run the faction or dictate how it works. I am merely offering what I do have. I may not have the time or interest to RP. Working full time, getting a masters, other hobbies, and my social life are more interesting than RP. However, I will offer what support I do have. And that is years of experience in running factions. I have seen a lot, and have a pretty solid track record. You can ignore what I have to say. That is fine. But I can safely say that all which I espouse comes from first hand experience. Take it or leave it. Doesn't bother me. :) Just comes from concern and the desire to see the board and the faction be as successful as possible. :)

One thing to keep in mind. I have nothing invested personally in this. It is purely to see things flourish. :)

Major Faction

Syn

Nimir-ra to Iella, Jedi Shadow
I am a republic loyalist as long as it is here I will have someone to help out. Being able to give accounts from three different states of the Republic where we nearly disbanded and Tef was forced to save it because it wanted to have the jedi doing one thing and the republic another. We lost members, Tef put Selena and we got members, we had idea's flowing and he worked to keep the faction going, now comparing the invasions between the two this one has more people leaving the republic, falling to the darkside and we're slipping back into groups and cliche's dismissing members who don't agree with our own view or idea and generally making peole want to form new jedi sects. Me and Trent disagreed on several things but I support the faction, I support Kiskla right now and Popo even though i disagree heavily with things. I am not simply leaving and saying "*** you* I am here to try and ride it out and help where needed something few others do.

You just contradicted your entire statement of support with the first three sentences.

It doesn't matter, back on topic.

I support the current leaders as well. They're doing their best and with that like Syn I've seen the faction move in and out and die off and revive.

This is a phase / fad that the faction is going in. Every faction does that -just- how it is. This separation is going to follow the same train of thought. It does bring a good storyline and I'm looking forward to see what happens.

*gets passed the Talking Pillow*

I vote that if you're not actively helping the Republic IC, you don't get to tout your opinion on how things are ran, no matter how cool you were when you were in charge.

Also, I vote that we stop name dropping, because nobody cares.

*tosses the Talking Pillow back to Popo.*

Not sure what you're taking about Trent. Of course all you have is the faction's best interests at heart, who could possibly think otherwise? :)

It looks like almost everyone so far is pro the change, except Vulpesen. But I thought you'd gone Sith in the invasion, Vulps?

Aye, if the move is -grounded- in creating a storyline based upon the Republic powers wanting the Jedi out and that becomes a big push IC and a major storyline, then awesome. Storyline is good times. But if the reason is purely OOC and meant to try and make people not spread out, then it seems like it is just a bad idea because there is no true need for it. Separating the two does not really advance anything activity wise.

The only OOC rational that would make sense to try and push Jedi out is if we had a huge crop of military characters pop up and we wanted to try and put them in more of a command role. I could see that being reasonable. I don't think it would be necessary, as those characters would still have room to stand out (having Jedi do things is never a bad thing) and take command. Characters who do that ultimately will do that. But if that was the OOC reason then I could at least see the rational as making some sense. An unnecessary move, but at least a reasonable one. However, doing it because the Jedi are "spread too thin" really does not strike me as a good move.

To put it another way. What good really comes from saying Jedi cannot be a part of the military? What comes from telling people "no, you can't RP your character in that group"?

Already wrote this when the two new posts things popped up. Fair enough, Tef, I'll disappear.

Fun fact #1: I was the merc on Manaan.

Fun Fact #2: I'm in full agreement with Tef on this. If you aren't going yo be active and help out, please don't waste time.

[member="Spencer Jacobs"] - Fine, when I'm crashing at yours and [member="Ashin Varanin"]'s place because I'm being hunted...you won't think it's so cool then huh?

However, I can babysit...

I support this separation wholeheartedly. I am well aware that there can be reasons for Jedi involvement in the armed forces of the Republic, but not to the degree it has been. And never permanently. Disentangling the Jedi Order from not only the military, but the politics of the Republic would do it a huge favour, in my mind.

And I know that I am not alone in that. Gods know, I have been looking forward to the change that could be brought to the Republic by those in leadership. Those changes have already begun, and thus far? I like what I have seen.

I do believe they are on the right track. Simple as that.

I must partially agree with Selena. Freedom, that is. Surely many of you would like to make the Jedi like they were meant to be, but then who will protect the Republic? Soldiers of the faction have never been that cool, maybe we can kind of boost their population when we get out of warring. But do you think enemies will show any mercy? Think about it - One Sith has so many members, all of them are Sith, some even extremely powerful. What will happen to our little troopers, then?

During wartime, Jedi and the Republic are inseparable. To be honest, Jedi lose their popularity when they become too warmongering, like it has already been seen, but they also lose their popularity if they do nothing. Would Jedi let the Republic - their favourite faction, like it seems to be - dye? Wouldn't they do something against war? While I may agree with you at one thing, that Jedi are meant to be peacekeepers, people who aid the ones who can't manage, and the students of the Force, I must say that separating the Jedi and military is completely pointless during times like these.

Next thing - Jedi are good to play with because of their actual story of what they used to be, but also because of the war of Jedi and Sith. At the moment, the Republic along with Jedi is the target of One Sith. And that's what makes a good story. Falling to the Dark Side is story, dying is story. But what would happen if we weren't supposed to fight alongside the military in these wars? Well, we would have nothing. Only the peaceful things, only studying the Force, training, and basically doing nothing at all.

Even though in the past I thought Jedi shouldn't be warring at all, my opinions have changed. Complete peace is not possible in a genre like Star Wars. Jedi, even though their past wasn't of fighting, are meant to fight if something so crazy is happening. And as members of the military like it was during the Clone Wars.

The Sith Empire was destroyed the last time, Sith have made their comeback. And the next thing in cycle would be destruction of the Republic. Even though we're (including me, obviously) want to fight against the Sith and not let it happen, sometimes things like this happen. Every crisis, every person going to the Dark Side, every death... They are all just leading to the great story. Knights and Masters and whoever dying and making the population really thin is just story, it's IC. While OOCly we may think the Republic must survive and we have to do absolutely everything to prevent it from complete destruction, we must also think about IC. And let things happen.

I tried to give my answer to all the major points made here, maybe I missed some of them. Anyways, my opinion is that in wartime, Jedi should be considered as members of military. If it's peace, they should be like they were meant to be.

Hi, I have some questions about this :)

1. If the Jedi and Republic split, will the Jedi remain a major faction or will they have to reapply for that status?

2. What would happen with the world map in terms of territory/presence, would the current Republic space be split between the two or would the Jedi have to start from scratch?

3. Would there be an automatic alliance with the Republic, a mutual defense pact/etc, or would it all basically be severed and the ties have to be rebuilt?

I personally don't mind either way. Whether in the Republic or in a Jedi Order, I will RP a Jedi to the best of my ability. All that matters in the end is writing a fantastic story and being true to your character. Nobody is forced to fall to the dark side, nobody is forced to be a soldier for the Republic as well as a Jedi; it all comes down to personal preference. As long as the Jedi and Republic can separate without crippling each other, then I don't care, but if a split means one faction is going to suffer, either the Republic or the Jedi, then it's best to ask if it's worth it. After all, weakening ourselves allows those pesky darksiders to take advantage ;)

Technically the Jedi and Republic should be two separate entities but allies, strong allies. This can either be done by separation of the two or by making more distinct separations inside the faction - no Jedi in the army/navy, no Republic leaders who are also Jedi, etc. Look at the Clone Wars. The Jedi fought alongside the clonetroopers, yes, and often commanded them, but they were not a part of the chain of command, they reported to the Jedi Council and not to the Republic itself.

So, since I'm waffling a bit here, I would say either yes to separation, so long as neither faction will find themselves struggling as a result; or yes to clearer in-faction distinctions. Just my 2cents :)

"For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times...before the Empire."

I'm just going to say, number three will never apply. The Jedi Order was founded on the basic principles of supporting and defending the Republic. There are other "Jedi" factions which have zero government alignment and I don't believe the Jedi Order is ever going to be such, otherwise we're just like the rest and completely gone from the whole concept of the Jedi Order. The problem is we became so consumed within the Military of the Galactic Republic that we became essential tools.

The Jedi Order has -always- supported the Republic. I want to say there is only a 793 year difference between when the Jedi were not supporting the Republic (As it did not exist) and when they -joined- the Republic.

"You must remember that there are over a hundred thousand inhabited worlds in the Republic, and there are only a few thousand of us. Billions of beings have never seen a Jedi. Millions have never heard of our Order or of the Force. When we do appear, we can be killers, but also healers. Thank the Force for that." - Obi Wan and Anakin

I think this above concept has become lost somehow. Just a fleeting thought.

Additionally, I like the concept of the New Jedi Order with a twist of adding in sub-sects. This allows the Corellian Jedi, Gray Jedi (Paladins, whatever you want to call them) to be amongst the traditional Jedi. In addition to that concept, not be as ignorant as the Old Jedi Order in the sense of rejecting Iron Knights. However, I still am in agreeance with kicking out Potentium individuals as the whole concept of: "No such thing as an evil action." Is a load of horse poodoo.

Some people need to actually read the first post.

He's not kicking the Jedi out of the faction; he's not making them make their own minor faction. He just wants to prevent, say, another fringe Jedi (no capital F on purpose) from ordering Republic soldiers to do stupid things.

IE - not being able to order them to kill civilians. Not that I was possible before, but you get the point.

Regardless, as with any faction decisions, if the members wants it. Ok. If they don't, OK. I already know what's going to happen on my end if this decision goes a certain way, but that's not the point of this post, because this isn't about me.

It's what the faction wants. Or, sometimes, just what the leaders want.
