[Shadow Tech Industries] Crystal Energy Cell

"Quite frequently." He answered honestly. "After all, it hasn't been all that long ago that I...was much less fortunate than I am now. But a long series of lucky breaks has got me to where I am today." He was about to give away what he did in the past, but realized he was quickly becoming much to comfortable with the woman. He'd have to watch himself. Ice tended to get attached somewhat quickly to people he actually liked. Still, he had to remember that although he liked her, she was still Sith, and still fully believed in how they did things. A view he simply did not share. Loyalty and honoring deals was important to the man.

"So what is it you are trying to tell me? That I am force sensitive?" His tone was slightly that of disbelief, and his expression only reinforced that some. Considering his age, Ice figured he would have been discovered long ago if that were the case. Surely she had to be joking, or he misunderstood. One of the two.

Another thought that then came to mind, was why was she even telling him this? What whether he was force sensitive or not have to do with the project. Surely she wasn't going to try and recruit him into the Sith, right?

[member="Darth Arcanix"]

"That's actually exactly what I'm saying," Taeli replied, eyeing her host with renewed interest. A thought in the back of her mind said she should try and recruit him to the Sith, but that would take a long time. She could be patient though, but that would be an extremely long-term goal for her. Right now, she had two other goals she wished to accomplish.

"You might be skeptical, but the evidence is right in front of you," she continued, knowing what he was most likely feeling. "Not everyone is found at a young age, I was found myself just awhile ago by the Sith on Lorrd. I know it's hard to grasp, but it's true, even if you don't believe or trust me. I want to earn your trust, that's why am I'm telling you this. While I proscribe to the Sith way, I view betrayal as unnecessary in most cases. It makes relations with others messy and complicated, I'd much rather hold to a deal or agreement."

She took a sip of her tea.

"Which brings me to my next question, would you be opposed to a more permanent business and personal alliance?" she asked. "I know you don't trust me because I'm Sith, sorry, but I view myself as a different kind of Sith. I like to think I have some honor and loyalty to my allies."

[member="Ice"]

Ice tilted his head to the side some as he listened to her words. "Strange to see such loyalty to a group you haven't been with for that long. Still, I suppose you have your reasons." He sat back and thought on her words and her offer. Ice wasn't familiar with what Krayt Industries specialized in, so he wasn't sure how compatible an alliance would be. But if she was so gun ho about this, they must have similar goals. Maybe he could work more closely with her. And he was all about giving people a chance. Quite honestly it was practically his calling card. He had spent so many years getting doors slammed in his face, nobody wanting to give him a shot. The experience left him quite bitter to people who don't even try to make something work.

He let out a small sigh and straightened up. "Look. I would love to have a more permanent business and personal alliance with you. I think you have a lot of potential to provide much that we could both benefit from. It's just the Sith...how can you promise that they wouldn't make you go against me, abandon your honor, ignore our alliance?" He frowned deeply. If only she could be brought to his side and away from any actual governmental power. Granted, Red Ravens and One Sith were allies, so the likelihood that they would go after STI was remote. But alliances during war tended to be fragile things. And war was definitely in the air. "I look on an alliance and/or deal as binding. If we became partners and you required aid. I would be there for you with everything I had at my disposal. But I would also expect the same."

"How about this. Say we become partners. I'd want our first collaborative efforts to be of a non military nature. Or at least of a much less importance level in technology. I will say right off the bat, that the crystal energy cell technology is not on the table. I'm not even going to show this project to the Corporate Alliance. It is meant to be a solely STI product. But, if our first low level projects work out, then perhaps we can revisit the agreement and begin working on mid-level projects." Good grief he was taking a lot of risks lately. Honestly it was starting to make him feel like his stomach was being twisted into knots. But such was the nature of business these days. It was either adapt or fail. He just prayed she wasn't spinning a fanciful tail where the ending had a knife in his back.

[member="Darth Arcanix"]

Taeli batted the proposition around in her head for a moment, sipping her tea. She couldn't guarantee what the Sith would order considering she was only a Sith Knight and not a Lord yet, but they didn't necessarily speak for her company. While they had been state-owned under Darth Banshee, Krayt had moved away into at least a more private sphere, even if they still did work mainly for the Sith.

"I think I can live with your proposal," she finally said, smiling. "As a show of good faith, I'll finish the crystals once we finish eating, I'm feeling fully rested again. For projects we can eventually work on, Krayt is branching away from just being a ship-building company, we're expanding into droids, cybernetics, ship and weapon systems, armor eventually. I'm trying to make it far more than anything my predecessor made it."

Thinking it over, she had caught a flash of apprehension in his eyes earlier.

"And to prove I'm not trying to stab you in the back and genuinely want to work together, as soon as I finish the crystals, I'll sign a pledge that says I won't use the knowledge to make more unless you are present and are for STI use. Would that be sufficient to assuage your fears?"

[member="Ice"]

Ice had taken another few bits of his food while he listened to her speak. A small look of surprise passed over his face when she had accepted his proposal. He thought almost for certain that she would only want her hands in the big projects. Perhaps she could be trusted. It was something only time could tell, but at least this was a promising start.

"If you are willing to do the things you say...then here's what I am willing to do for you. How about I give you some offices here on Libertalia for your company to set up shop. That way, we can work on project together, and both of our facilities would then be close together and could thus make ease of collaboration that much smoother." While letting her think on that offer, he pondered to go one a little further to show his own sincerity in wanting this alliance to work. Though it would be a little more personal.

"Also, since you too value knowledge. As my own show of good faith, once you have signed that pledge, I'll allow you to stay on the crystal energy cell project while we try and develop the actual reactor itself. It will still be for STI use only. But at least then you will come to understand how the whole project works, instead of only being able to know part of it. Besides, I think I would welcome your insight on the matter anyway." He finished by reward her own pleasant smile with on of his own for her. He always enjoyed it when fair deals that benefited both could be worked out. And considering her willingness to bend over backward so far to make this work. He was willing to throw her a bone as well. He was after all, so far getting the better end of this deal for now.

[member="Darth Arcanix"]

"All that would be greatly appreciated and I would be happy to continue helping," Taeli replied. She was weighing the agreement made so far, and he was rather on the more on the positive side of things. She needed to even that out, even though she didn't mind being in her current position. It would establish ties and such with another company.

"I do have one condition though," she added, looking thoughtfully across the table at her host. "I want to have access to the planet where you got these crystals from, mining and production facilities since I suspect there are more than just Force Crystals on the surface. To sweeten it, Krayt will take all the costs of building these facilities and any products made could also be used by STI, but not by the Ravens unless we sign a deal with them."

She suspected he wouldn't mind too much this arrangement, but would probably make sure she couldn't access the Force Crystals. It would be the prudent move to do and she could completely understand why. A Sith with full access to such things might be a problem for everyone, even one's allies as it could be viewed as back-stabbing and she didn't want that.

[member="Ice"]

His earlier smile at their progress was suddenly dashed away as she made her one stipulation. It was a stipulation he could not grant. Both for security reason, and due to previously made deals. Like he told her, he was a man of his word. And he didn't go back on deals once they had been struck. His face now plainly showed his disappointment.

With a heavy sigh, he replied, "That is sadly a stipulation I cannot grant. I have already signed two deals with the Red Ravens over that planet. Deals which would make this impossible without breaking my contract and word with the Red Ravens. I am the only person who can have mining rights on that planet currently. Considering what is on that planet." He stopped and gestured with his head, nodding back toward the crystals. "That location is STI's most closely guarded secret. So the deal would have to be as is IF you wish it to form."

He then looked at her curiously as he took another sip of his water, to see how she would take being stonewalled on the request. He wanted to work with her, but that was another something, like the force crystals, he could not yield on and had to protect if he wanted to maintain STI's edge against any possible hostiles.

[member="Darth Arcanix"]

"My oh my, someone is rather . . . protective, almost Sith like in that regard," she said, her smile not leaving her face and indicating she wasn't upset by his answer. She had suspected that would be it after all. "Thought it would be worth asking, oh well. If that's the case, I'm perfectly happy accepting our earlier agreements and if you happen to come across something I might have an interest in, I'd be willing to offer a generous price for such things."

Leaning back in her chair, she could understand perfectly the need for secrecy and protecting one's secrets.

"Welp, this was fun, but we have work to get back to, what with the refilling the tub, recasting spells, you know," she said, standing up and finishing her tea. "As for our deal, Ni dinu ner gaan naakyc, jorcu ni nu copaani kyr'amur ner vod." (Mando for I shall honor my word and you shall honor yours and we shall not spill our brothers blood)

Ice raised an eyebrow at her initial comment, but smirked. "I guess I should take that as a compliment?" He finished with a small chuckle. The fact that she was still smiling really did much to assuage his fears about the deal falling apart. And her next words only confirmed his new sentiment. He could certainly understand someone attempting for a better deal. And he was grateful for understanding when certain things had to be rejected. She was beginning to not really feel like much of a Sith at all outside of her techniques. Though that was not something he would mention.

He stood up with her and sent new orders for his workers to bring up another set of "volunteers" to the crystal room along with the cleaned tub. He nearly dropped his datapad however, when she spoke her oath in Mandalorian. His eyes widened and shoot up to stare at her. She....spoke Manda!? He wasn't sure what to make of it at first. If she was Mandalorian, but now a Sith that would mean she would be an outcast from Mando society. She'd be someone he'd be obliged to destroy on site...if he had actually stayed close to his heritage.

Full of surprises this one was. He'd simply give her a nod in the end and gesture for him to follow him back to the speeder. As they headed back, he couldn't help but ask. "Mind if I inquire where you learned Mandoa?"

[member="Darth Arcanix"]

She looked from her seat as he asked her his question.

'Hmmm to tell or not to tell,' she thought, smiling at the surprise she could feel radiating from him. She could also feel some apprehension, most likely because she would technically be viewed as an outcast by Mandalorians and shot or stabbed on sight. Such a crude way to deal with people who left the culture to join others, but then she wasn't never part of it to begin with.

"Wouldn't you like to know," she answered coyly as the speeder reached their destination. Getting out of her seat, she added, "That will be a story for another time, I think. We have work to do."

Going back into the room, the dark side still hung rather strongly in here, and even just the lingering affects of the ritual had the prisoners looking nervous and twitchy. The guards remained as stoic as ever, slightly unnerving to her but oh well. Nodding her head, the first inmate was led over to the tub and positioned on his knees, his neck over the lip.

"What are you doing?!" he yelled, his panic spiking and catching the attention of the other prisoners who all started yelling and trying to flee.

"Think of it this way," Taeli whispered in his ear, going from her lighter side back to a full Sith with that single phrase, "you die to serve a higher cause."

With that she flicked the knife across his throat, lifted his body into the air with a Force Grip, and began the process of filling the tub and casting the spells again.

"Exsoluamus sanguinis virtute, devolvat in tenebris," she intoned over the blood already collecting in the tub, turning it a slight shade of red darker.

[member="Ice"]

His eyes narrowed some as he watched the woman walk back in to where the prisoners were being kept without having answered his question even slightly. He might have to do a little research on that one just to be sure there wasn't anything lerking in the closet that he should be aware of. Well....anything out of the ordinary for a Sith anyway.

As he heard the screams of the men inside, he decided to stay outside of the room again. Ice may have been fine with assigning men on death row to this fate, but he didn't need to stay and watch. He was not Sith after all. And his current interests lay in a completed force crystal energy cell. Not witnessing the dozens of men it would take to make the project a success get slaughtered like chickens.

When she had finished the grim work, the guards again took the bodies away to be fed to the wild animals in the pits at the Colosseum and soon after have their memory cores erased. Like everything else Ice did, he was very tidy and always tried to make sure their were no loose ends that someone might be able to take advantage of later. It had served him well so far, and he probably wouldn't change his extreme security measures anytime soon, no matter what people thought.

Walking back in, he held his hand out for his knife once she was finished since Taeli would obviously not be needing at anymore. He cleaned the blade off with a nearby rag, and returned it to its sheath on his leg. He then threw his arms across his chest as he witnessed her continue on with the process. He could already feel the power within the room begin to slowly build again. Though it was nothing like it was before.

[member="Darth Arcanix"]

"Fair warning, the energies in the room are gonna be a bit different than last time," she said from across the tub, the fifth crystal hanging over it. "The lingering effects from earlier coupled with the executions might exasperate any bleeding from the crystals. If that makes you uncomfortable with your new knowledge of why you felt it earlier, I'd leave now."

He didn't move, just gestured for her to continue, trying to stay stoic.

"Alright then," she said, lowering the crystal into the pool of blood. She could feel the power building again, the dark side was rife in the room again, full of anger and pain. Bringing the crystal out of the blood, she began the chant and the blood started to be absorbed into the crystal, the power spiking. A black and purple aura pulsing slowly within it, a maelstrom of dark energy contained within the hardened crystal structure. She couldn't stop herself from sampling the power, allowing it to fill her. She knew her Marks would begin showing again, but her host would at least know she could make them disappear again.

Lowering the crystal onto the table, she didn't even shudder this time, the power in the room and the reinforcement from her tea stopping the shudders and shortness of breath. The sixth crystal lifted into the air, hovering over the tub, and she began to lower it in, chanting the ritual spell.

[member="Ice"]

Just like she predicted, that very odd sensation began to slowly fill the room once more, but soon it was like a flood. It was a cold feeling, unnatural, or like a feeling of something bad that was hurling toward you and you couldn't stop it. It was not one that he particularly enjoyed, but still, like her, he wanted to see the project through from beginning to end. The was after all going to be his companies crowning achievement if they could pull this off successfully.

What was also interesting about this time, was her resilience with the ritual. When she first started, she would shudder and weaken. This time she seemed to not be phased by it at all. Curious, what could that mean? His mind began to ponder the many possible reasons. She did say the food and drink would help stabilize her...but could simple things like that really be this effective? He thought not, and concluded for now that it only played a small part. There were less crystals in the room. Perhaps it was simply too many crystals before that led to her nearly being overwhelmed by the energy present. He'd note that down for if there was a next time to not bring as many crystals into the room at once for alterations.

His mind then wondered what would have happened had there been multiple force users in here working on the crystals together. It seemed as though it was quite a fortuitous event that only one person showed up after all. The crystals were still being finished, and he had to part with at least 1 million less credits as well as least two less force crystals. Saving money and force crystals was definitely a good thing. He had resources and was willing to spend them if necessary, but like he said earlier, waste not.

As the sixth crystal was set on the table and only one remained to be altered, his mind shifted over to the next phase of the project. That of the actual reactor creation. His research had dug up that it only took a couple spherical crystals (roughly the size of a basketball) to power things like whole cities or even the death star from old. But this perplexed him as if you scaled up a crystal from one that could fit into a lightsaber, to the size crystals used in those truly massive ships, the power output should have been much less and unable to support the death star or those cities. The only conclusion he could reach from this is that scale of the crystal did not translate into and equal growing of strength. But rather the larger the crystal got, the more exponentially the crystals grew in power.

If this was truly the case, it would be an amazing thing for his projects as he wouldn't need to cut away large portions of these crystals for a single project. Still he figured he'd better ask the expert. Especially since she seemed to have knowledge in this department. What with bringing up those earlier ships she had mentioned. "Taeli?" He asked before she picked up the seventh crystal. "What size crystal do you think I'd need to power something say the size of a frigate, or even a cruiser? I ask because I'm trying to determine a reactor design. So far it seems like these reactors are going to be incredible small when compared to normal reactors."

[member="Darth Arcanix"]

As she lowered the final crystal into the blood, she gave his question some thought. As they currently stood, these crystals could probably power an entire planet for quite some time, from the size and power they contained now. For a frigate or cruiser, putting a full size crystal into a reactor would probably chain-react and destroy the ship from power overload.

"For a small capital ship, I'd say maybe a crystal about six to eight inches long," she replied, pulling the crystal out of the tub and beginning the spell again. As she finished her chant, she drank in some of the power that was in the room, refreshing herself and adding it to her own store of power. She couldn't help herself, but it wasn't like he would notice. His sensitivity to such things would be non-existent at this stage in the game, but maybe she would start changing that slowly, very slowly.

"The power of one these full size crystals in a reactor with a charge would most likely implode a small capital ship. Two crystal about a foot long powered the Death Star's laser, these are much larger and more powerful as they were treated alchemically," she explained, setting the crystal on the table and allowing it to resonate with the other two. "One of these full size crystals should only be used for very large things like powering a planet or an extremely large capital ship. To get the right size though, you'll just have to test by trial and error."

"Whatever reactor you build for ships and such is most likely going to be smaller than normal reactors, given you don't need large amounts of matter or anti-matter and just need to run a charge through the crystal."

[member="Ice"]

This information pleased Ice greatly. It meant that even just a single crystal had enough material there to power a small fleet, along with all its support craft, and maybe even personnel. If what she was saying was true about how to make the crystals actually produce power....why the reactors themselves would really be nothing more than glorified lightning rods to harvest the energy coming off the crystal as a beam of energy is fired into a focusing point and then magnified exponentially.

He could barely contain his excitement as he smiled wider and wider at Taeli with each passing word she spoke. This project had cost the lives of 30 men thus far. But their "sacrifice" would now allow the creation of some of the most powerful reactors the galaxy had ever seen. At least for the scale that he planned to build these on.

He gave Taeli a small but respectful bow. "Thank you for your efforts here today. Truly, it was most illuminating to witness. Now which account would you like me to make the transfer of credits into?" He was nothing if not punctual. Good work was to be rewarded swiftly and generously he had always felt. "And where you still wanting to work on the reactor part of the project itself? From what you just told me, that part is actually going to be a fairly simple affair. But a deal is a deal, and you are welcome to come along if you wish."

[member="Darth Arcanix"]

"Send the credits to this account," she said, handing him her datapad with the account information pulled up. Heavily encrypted and the signal would be bounced around several different Holonet transceivers before finally arriving in a secure account she had established in secret and disguise Coruscant. She was taking no chances with any resource she gained.

"I leave the building the reactors to you and your most likely capable team," she said, bowing back. "However, there is one favor I would request. I'm sort of, oh what's a good word, bleeding energy and need an outlet for the excess. Could you perhaps bring some gladiators or beasts into your arena for me to fight. I need a good workout."

She could her Force presence pulsing with power, and to cement it within herself, she needed to do something with it. Fighting and killing some poor fools would certainly help with that. Just to make a point at how raring to go she was, she reached into her bag and retrieved her lightsaber. She wondered what he would think of the half circle guard that contained the hilt, but she definitely looking forward to the surprise he would feel when she showed just what else it could do.

[member="Ice"]

Ice grinned excitedly as she withdrew her saber. "Again, it would be my very great pleasure to do so. You have certainly earned it." He gave a small shrug and continued. "I hope you don't mind if I make a small announcement about it though do you? Also, what would you prefer to fight? Men or beasts?"

While he waited for her answers, he took her datapad, and after getting the necessary information went ahead and transferred the credits to her account. He also ordered his workers to return one last time and remove the crystals and transfer them to the vault, again to be kept separate from each other so there was no strange power overload from them all being in such close proximity to each other.

With that out of the way, he wondered if she might allow him one last thing. "Also...your saber. Would it be possible for me to make a quick scan of it? I only ask since the saber is already designed to accept energy from the force crystals. Even on a small scale, this would be enormously helpful for us to speed up the process of finishing the reactor." He didn't really need it. So if she said no, it wouldn't bother him. But if he could shave of so R&D time, he'd certainly ask.

[member="Darth Arcanix"]

"Sorry but no," she replied, holding her saber away from him. "It's a rather unique saber and I don't want any scans done on it, I alone know what the schematics are and the internal workings. Even a cursory scan to find out how the power cell interacts with the crystal would be revealing too much about how it works. Go ahead and make your announcement though, I'll fight some of your best gladiators, and you'll make a killing on the betting wall."

She rolled her shoulders and cracked her neck before leaving the room, taking the speeder to one of the arena entrances and going inside. She was looking forward to it, her body was craving combat right now, the dark side filling her with power as she absorbed the pain and anger that hung about a place like this. Arenas always had a source of nourishment for the dark side, one just needed to know how to find it.

And, she thought, this could be a better demonstration to Ice about just what the Force could do beyond change things. She had felt his fascination with the process, and she knew once one started asking questions about such things, it would only be a matter of time before he asked for more answers. Something to look forward to then, as she sat in the small waiting room for the arena, smiling coldly to herself in the shadows

[member="Ice"]

Ice smiled and sighed. He suspected as much. "Well, you can't blame me for asking. It really would have sped things along, but I understand." Her move to withdraw the saber farther from Ice was not needed as he had zero intentions of taking it from her by force. He gave a simple nod and a smile at her last words though, and gestured for her to head for the speeder while he prepared the event.

A special announcement soon went throughout the station about a special one time fight that was happening right there in the Colosseum between a Sith and several of the stations best gladiators and animals. Spectators from all over the station almost immediately began to crowd the arena.

Taeli was escorted to the center of the killing ground while her opponents were finishing their prep work for the fight. She didn't have long to wait. Across the station, people who couldn't actually make it into the Colosseum were tuning in to watch the fight on the holo screens in their rooms, at restaurants, in the casino, and the bars, everywhere. Wagers were pouring in to the staff on who would win based on what opponents she was to face.

None of that information was ever passed on to Taeli of course. Ice wanted it to be a surprise. Also he was curious to see for himself, especially with a force crystal now on her person, what this "student" of alchemy could be capable of. After a bit more time to allow more guests in to see the fight, betting was officially closed, and the fight was announced to begin then.

A gate in front of her opened up, and three armored men with energy shields (think similar to gungan shield) and vibroswords began marching out and toward her. There arms held high as a thanks to the cheering crowds and to get them more riled up. As they closed the gap, the floor opened up behind her in two locations and two Nexu on chains came bounding out charging her position. What she didn't know is they would be stopped just before her position. The idea was to scare her and see how she handled herself under pressure.

THE GAMES HAVE BEGUN!!! Came the announcers voice booming over the speakers.

Meanwhile, Ice had sent back all the relevant data he had picked up and sent it to his techs to begin work on the actual reactor itself. He really hoped it wouldn't be to big of a technical challenge to get the project finished.

[member="Darth Arcanix"]

Taeli kept her head down, staying perfectly still, her lightsaber silent. She allowed herself to become aware of those around her, linking them to her senses. Three enemies bearing vibroswords and energy shields, and two nexu to her rear. The gladiators were exuding confidence into the Force, thinking that this young woman in front of them would be no match for them, even if she was a Sith. The two nexu behind her were mainly hungry, looking to tear apart anything in the arena to sate their hunt for flesh.

She allowed the dark side to well up within her as she slowly looked up, her Marks of Darkness emerging and her eyes blazing yellow instead of their normal purple. She raised her saber hand, looking at the lightsaber thoughtfully as the gladiators charged her, yelling war cries. The two nexu streaked towards her, claws fully extended and fangs bared in a predatory grin.

Moving faster than any of her opponents, she streaked forward, her lightsaber igniting; the crimson blade humming and ready to end their lives. She ducked a wild sword swing, spinning on her heels and kicking out at the first opponent's legs. He collapsed into a puff of dust as a shield came to bash her senseless. Taeli dodged it, twisting out of the way before bringing her lightsaber down and cutting through that man's arm. Yelling in pain, she quickly drew her blade across his shoulders, his head tumbling to the ground. The nexu were closer now, but she paid them no heed yet as she fought the third gladiator.

He was more cautious than his dead comrade and the man struggling to his feet, feinting and probing with his sword, a quick stab here or a small slash there. She parried and feinted herself, using her enemy's shield as an obstacle he needed to get around instead of her. A nexu darted towards them, but Taeli neatly sidestepped them and unleashed Force Lightning, blasting it backwards and making it writhe in pain.

Her enemy took advantage of her distraction and punched her in the face with his vibrosword's pommel. Taeli staggered back as he grinned wickedly at her as his comrade righted himself and came at her from her flank.

Taeli felt her lip had split from the blow, and she scowled at them. The second blade of her lightsaber ignited, and her opponents backed up quickly . . . or at least tried to. She streaked forward, twirling her double-bladed lightsaber past the man who punched her's shield and he quickly fell into three pieces. Looking at the last man, she smiled coldly as she decided on different tactic to kill him. Reaching with the Force, she crushed the other nexu's will and took command of it.

"I hope you're ready to die," she hissed, twisting the handle of her lightsaber.

The handguard's second half slid out and into place, creating the full ring. The mag-locks disengaged on the blade emitters, and to his growing horror, the lightsaber blades began to spin faster and faster.
