Public Sit And Stay A While

Coruscant was the place to be as of late. With the recent reclamation of the Core, more and more had started to flock back towards the Center of the Galaxy. The branding department on that certainly made a killing however long ago that came out. Kahlil smiled softly as he looked over the bustling streets. He wasn't much a fan of the cityworld, preferring nature over anything else, but seeing this world so active after a whole district was leveled did good.

He turned from the lines of speeders sailing overhead to step into the bar. It was a smaller place, out of the way but friendly. One of the places he used to frequent when the cityworld was still the home of the Senate. Given his work, a nice drink helped out. Now wasn't even about work though. Vacation. It was a rare concept for him, but now he was here to enjoy a day off and talk with a friendly face he really needed to talk more with.

"You're old enough to drink now, right Shan?" He glanced to his former Padawan, straight faced as ever. Though with the very subtle twitch of a smile to show his teasing nature. "What do you prefer?"

"Heh. I've been old enough for a bit.

Shan couldn't help but grin away right now. It was fantastic to Shan to see people coming back to Coruscant. It wasn't necessarily a planet he loved. No, he was sick of city planets. They reminded him too much of Nar Shaddaa. He'd happily spend time in nature instead. But it was still nice to see people coming back to what he saw as the heart of the Galaxy.

"Though surprise me. I've never been much for drinking. I like to have a clear mind."

Today was different though. He normally wanted to keep a clear mind in case anything went wrong, but he felt like today would be a good enough for him to take a small break from worrying about the Galaxy.

"How have the kids been? I haven't been able to check. Seen Aris and Vera around though. They're doing well."

Aadihr had a bad habit of falling asleep while far-seeing. Normally, it wouldn't be a terrible habit, except that with the blindfold on and the upright posture, he seemed to be sitting perfectly still, unless he let out the occasional snore.

He didn't drink often, but on a whim decided he could use a load off.

Aadihr had a bad habit of falling asleep while drunk.

The Miraluka sat at a booth, oblivious to the world around him but appearing perfectly alert, unaware of even those who sat across from them - until a snore grew too loud and he startled himself awake.

"Huh, what?" He muttered before even being fully conscious again.

"Sure, sure. A couple years now, right?"

A chuckle did finally escape before he found a spot at the bar, taking a seat. He nodded once to the owner. A friendly face he hadn't seen in some time, but a welcome one regardless. Same drink as always, whiskey neat. "They're good. The triplets have started school, so that's been an adventure of it's own. Eryx and Yvaine are as clingy as ever, if absolutely adorable. .. I'm glad to know those two are doing good though. Valery and I both agreed to be more hands off for their sake of becoming Jedi."

When she waltzed into the bar, she immediately turned heads. The instinctive flight or fight murmur that stirs in many beings when a creature like her is near warred with the image of pleasant, unthreatening beauty on display. Fight or Flight warred with that image as she passed by a dozen patrons.

Her son, Nathan, had advised her to try understanding people on a more concrete level by visiting a place she normally wouldn't. Magdalena, wanting to connect to her adopted Son better, and not having been fully human in her thought processes for most of her existence, decided to waltz into this place. She smelled many things she wasn't used to and her nose crinkled.

Socializing like this was foreign to her. She was completely out of her element. So she decided to experiment by ordering a drink. Nothing strong. It wouldn't matter if it was anyway. Her metabolism prevented her from getting drunk.

She sat at a booth, quietly taking sips, noticed a high ranking Jedi called Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble talking to a Padawan named Shan Shan

But the man in the booth she sat in drew more attention from her. He seemed to have fallen asleep. Not liking the idea of him being asleep with no one to look out for him due to her non human thought process, she had stayed next to him, drawing her attention more as he stirred.

"You must have had something very strong..." Magdalena, The Sorceress of Ossus said to Aadihr Lidos Aadihr Lidos as he stirred awake.

"I hope you don't mind me taking this booth. It's my first time here..." she said. "I'm Magdalena. Magdalena Bloodscrawl."

"Makes sense. The whole being hands off I mean. They're doing great from what I've seen so far."

Vera had been doing pretty well from what Shan had seen in the last class he held, with him pairing Kaelos and Vera but Shan kept that quiet. It was nice to hear that the triplets were at school as well. Education had always been vital for Shan. Mostly because he felt like he had to work to learn himself. No-one supported him, but he was happy to see that the triplets were being supported. Shan ordered a whiskey himself, though he wasn't sure how that was going to actually taste so...

"I never thanked you by the way. For helping me out on Hapes. I wasn't in a good headspace after I had seen."

His headspace still wasn't entirely great but he was getting there. It was what times like this were for if he was honest to himself. Trying to build on his relationships with people to remind him why he was doing what he was. Why he wouldn't abandon the Jedi. He had worked hard to become a Jedi Knight. He wasn't going to just abandon that because he wasn't feeling good in his head.

"You must have had something very strong..." Magdalena, I hope you don't mind me taking this booth. It's my first time here..." she said. "I'm Magdalena. Magdalena Bloodscrawl."

"Huh, what?" He snapped awake, "I'm not asle-uh drunk-"

Aadihr retraced the words he heard, trying not to seem too confused. Something about writing with blood, and that her name was Magdalena.

All of that fell to the wayside as the Miraluka shielded his non-existent eyes from the blinding light of the force presence sitting directly across from him - he could barely even make out the outline of the sorceress. Aadihr was mostly struck with confusion, however, unfamiliar of what Force Spawn looked like through Force Sight.

"Oh - ow, uh sorry, Magdalena, you said? I am Aadihr, and no worries, I don't mind you sitting here at all!" He said, brows furrowed behind his blindfold as if trying to squint while staring directly into a light bulb.

"I hope it's not rude of me to ask, but you aren't some kind of apparition or Ashla-sent messenger are you? You just happen to be, uh, very bright"

I'm not asleep still, am I?

Magdalena smiled pleasantly, bemused by his confused state. It finally registered he was Miraluka when he noted her presence.

"I'm no apparition..." she stated calmly. "Simply a very long studied Light Side practitioner. Not exactly a messenger..."

Magdalena took another sip of her drink, her Force Presence a torch flare to his perceptions.

"I rarely venture to these places, so I decided to switch up my pattern for once and see what the city had to offer. Most time I operate as a Healer or Preacher of the Light..."

Of course, all that was true, but that didn't mean she didn't get into freaky Alkahest experiments like a total mad scientist. She just kept that sort of thing more on a back burner. Ninety Five percent of the time, her existence really was devoted to helping others, as it had been for thousands of years. She had been around for the Jedi Civil War to give an idea of just how old she was.

"It's nice to meet you, Aadihr. Are you still dizzy? I have a means to clear up the brain fog, with your permission..." she offered, wanting to clear up his mental confusion for the sake of a more coherent interaction. There was still so much about casual socializing she didn't fully understand. Her own adopted Son, Nathan Bloodscrawl Nathan Bloodscrawl , infamous at the Jedi Temple for his taciturn nature and terse manner of speech, was ironically better at socializing than she was. Her shimmering blue gown, her badge of religious authority in House Bloodscrawl, glimmered even in low lighting, almost reflective.

"This is the longest I've ever stayed in a place like this, come to think of it..." she mentioned idly...

"Hapes was a mess. Still is. I'm not sure what is going to happen, but the people will need folks like you to help." Shan was part of why it didn't turn out as bad as it could've. Kahlil was proud, how could he not be? The boy he trained had become more than just a Jedi. A doctor, a healer, a spark of light to give hope to others.

He smiled faintly as he took another sip of his drink.

"What have you been up to lately?"

"Sometimes it feels like there's better choices than me."

He didn't exactly feel like he was a great choice when it came to defending people. He had failed in that job more than once. Though the Mirialan was doing his best to try and keep his head up through it all. Bringing Light to people was meant to be what he did best and he couldn't do that if he was down in the numbs.

"Been catching up with people. Might be going to visit Naboo with Lily. Working on coming up with lessons to teach Zaiya and maybe some of the other Padawans. Still need to find things to learn myself. Life is always about learning new things. You done anything fun recently?"

M977SXg.png

"It's never about choice, it's about those willing and capable of stepping up. Which you have, and I imagine you will." Heroes weren't born, they were made. He had no doubt Shan would be that person, if it was required of him. It was both inspiring and saddening, in truth. A burden Kahlil didn't want to put on Shan's shoulders, but knew the boy would accept it anyway.

"No. It's been paperwork and bureaucracy unending. This is one of the first times I've actually stepped away from it to just.. Relax. It's nice to."

Shan went silent at that. It was true. He didn't choose to come back to the Jedi because he wanted to. It was because he felt like he had to. He had to help people and he could do that more as a Jedi than by himself. By this point, Shan didn't see himself being able to retire from being a Jedi. He'd always be wanting to teach the next generation. He didn't see himself dying on a battlefield, but he could see himself growing old in the Archives.

"It's great to step away. I'm only just learning how to actually...take a step back from my work to focus on myself sometimes. Been working on plenty of extra stuff instead of my Jedi work. Working on relief plans, trying to get funding and permission to build an Orphanage on Onderon. It's a lot more stressful than you'd expect."

He chuckled to himself at that, rubbing the back of his neck. The Orphanage funding was somewhat sorted. He still need to get in contact with Jenn or one of the other higher up members on Onderon to get the permission...

M977SXg.png

Right. Boy was the wrong word to think of. Even as Shan fell silent, Kahlil could see it in his eyes. Neither of them were the type who could walk from being a Jedi. No matter where they ended up, no matter what path they took, they would always be part of the Order. "Other projects are just as good, though those aren't always relaxing you know. Be sure to take a breath more than just when I end up calling you out. Force knows that's only ever happened once."

He chuckled lightly, shaking his head. Still, it made him happy to hear Shan was still doing more with his life.

"Don't worry, don't worry. I have been taking a break. Went to that Vacation resort the other day and met Lily there. Earned a free cabin there alongside a landspeeder which is pretty neat. I don't have much use for the landspeeder but..."

Shan shrugged his shoulders. It was amusing in a way. It was a belonging that some people would fight for, or gamble their lifesavings away for and Shan had gotten it for free...but he didn't care for it. Not whatsoever. It was fun to use but he didn't have any need for it.

"I plan on taking visits to some other worlds as well. I want to learn more about their culture, like the Baran-Do. The Luka Sene. Matukai...Wait. That's all still Jedi related. Hm...I don't think I have any hobbies outside of Jedi work now...No wonder I don't have any friends outside of the Jedi Order."

He frowned to himself at that thought, linking his fingers together to rest his chin atop. It was the truth, whether or not he wanted to believe it.

As the sudden wakefulness faded to more steady consciousness, he pulled back with his mind's eye, retreating his eyeless gaze as if viewing the healer-sorceress from a distance.

"It's nice to meet you, Aadihr. Are you still dizzy? I have a means to clear up the brain fog, with your permission..."

"Funny, I'm usually the one doing the healing," he said in jest, "thank you, but the brain fog is preferable - particularly in this environment."
For this environment, and this time. Too much to worry about with a clear head.
The snowy-haired Miraluka lifted the cup with his half-consumed drink. A poisonous anaesthetic for the mind.

Simple linen robes covered a perpetually bandaged left arm where an unhealing burn has been held at bay for months. A sandy-tone synthweave blindfold cut from an ancient cloak hid vestigial sockets where eyes would have been. Drab tones were satisfactory for a subset of human without capability to see colors, instead selected for texture, weight, and fit.

"This is the longest I've ever stayed in a place like this, come to think of it..."

"Not a big fan of cantinas, or just never had a reason to?" Aadihr asked, no judgement in his tone. With a moment of pondering he did find it an odd cultural practice from a logical point of view.
"To be fair, I don't make a habit of nodding off in places like this either - or at least I don't intend to."

How long had he been asleep?

M977SXg.png

"When you do what you love, you never work a day in your life, mm?" It was a good life to live, the one they wanted to be part of. And, well, it was something Kahlil wanted the Jedi of the NJO to experience. The other cultures, the other beliefs in the galaxy. Learn them as they go, learn what it means to them.

"It sounds good, is what I mean. If that is relaxing to you, don't let me tell you to stop."

Magdalena nodded back respectfully.

"As you wish..." she replied, but she still sensed the wound he had and grew concerned.

In contrast to his simple appearance, Magdalena looked positively luxurious in her blue gown, brown eyes focusing on Aadihr Lidos Aadihr Lidos .

"Never had a reason. The main one being that I can't get intoxicated due to certain... peculiarities of my metabolism..." she answered, her nature as a healer sensing the dark wound...

"Forgive me, but as a healer, I can sense your wound. Are you alright?" Magdalena asked, genuinely concerned for his well-being.

"You may want to keep the brain fog, but your arm...surely I could do something about it. I have a lot of experience with this sort of injury..." she offered.

Well, no point in hiding it, though he still feared discovery of it by the others in the cantina.

Aadihr lacked knowledge of what it was, except that it was dark and hungry, and twisted his emotions to fury whenever it could, growing hotter when it fed.

"I... No." He finally admitted, to himself as well as to Magdalena Bloodscrawl Magdalena Bloodscrawl - Aadihr had been stifling the brand inflicted upon him for months, at best burying it deep within himself. At worst, finding the strength it gave over his natural limitations, his deficiencies with telekinesis and enhancement a boon. But he knew the purpose of which it was place upon him. To cause him turmoil and seduce to him dark side, something he would never permit himself to do. He would sever the arm himself if he had to - or other, more drastic measures.

He began to unravel the bandages, revealing a fresh-appearing burn that stretched up past his elbow from the palm of his hand. A faint fiery glow circled from withing the flesh, like a parasite burrowing through the affected area, feeding on the curse in a mutualistic feedback loop, moving ever so slightly from the anxiety of the reveal. Proximity to it caused unease and pain proportional to the lightside affinity upon contact.

"It spread over time, from my wrist up to here. I don't know if it is contagious. I've tried some basic mundane and self-healing, but it only seems to agitate when given life force. I... I don't wish to spread it to the other healers of the temple." Or to be quarantined and left to be consumed by it. In truth, he wanted the strength it gave him, deep down, at least until he could rescue Azurine Varek Azurine Varek - but noble intentions were convenient gateways for corruption to the dark side, and Aadihr knew this, was paralyzed by this knowledge.

"Heh. I'm not sure what I love if I'm honest. Spent so long trying to make other people safe and happy that I've rarely put any thought into that for myself..."

It was true for Shan. Very much so. His entire life had been him wanting to heal people, make the Galaxy a better place. He hadn't thought much about what he had actually wanted. It's why he was getting out there more. Trying to figure out what he enjoyed in life, because of course he loved to help people but at the same time it could grind away at him.

"But it is relaxing. Learning always is. It helps me open my eyes to the Galaxy and find out where I might be wrong."

M977SXg.png

"That's all we really can do. Try to learn what we've been wrong about and understand a better path forward." Though that didn't lend itself to relaxation in the long run. He took another sip of his drink, mulling it over. Living a life trying to find something wrong with it was certainly a recipe for disaster. There had to be good.

"What about your dating life? Meet anyone interesting in college?"

Shan Shan
