STRENGTHS
- Standard Interceptor: The SI-TIE/I possesses adequate armaments and low defenses, but it enhances the standard fighter design with enhanced speed and maneuverability. This allows the interceptor to weave in and out of tight situations, outpacing most standard starfighters to initiate rapid flanking maneuvers.
- Enhanced Features: Like the SI-TIE, the interceptor version also possesses advanced sensor, targeting, and communication systems that allow it to better coordinate with other Imperial fighters to adapt and react to an ever shifting battlefield.
- No Hyperdrive: Like the other TIE designs, the SI-TIE/I lacks a hyperdrive and must be launched from another ship.
- Carrier Dependent: Similar to its drawback of having no hyperdrive, the SI-TIE/I also cannot land like a normal fighter as it possesses no landing gear. It must instead be launched, docked, and stored on specially designed racks inside of Star Destroyers or other carrier vessels.
Another Sith-Imperial collaboration between the Sith Empire and the Santhe Corporation, the SI-TIE/I was designed to become the new staple interceptor starfighter for the Empire.
A refined streamlined hull allows the starfighter to achieve great speeds in both space and in atmosphere. The quad dagger-like solar panels also give the fighter a unique profile, distinguishing it from other Imperial fighters of the time.
The fighter lacks any sort of missile ordnance, but more than makes up for it with two chin-mounted laser cannons and four wingtip laser cannons. Each one is noticeably weaker in energy output, a drawback of the increased speed and sheer number of weapons, but when fired as a volley they can chip away at an enemy fighter's shields bit by bit.
Like previous TIE designs, the ship had no hyperdrive and could only be launched from carrier warships. It did, however, possess adequate shielding, life support, and other advanced systems that made the Sith-Imperial TIE Interceptor a more resilient and versatile vessel than previous incarnations.
