Slave mines (Apatros and open)

Sabine had arrived on Apatros with some freighters, those freighters where loaded with slaves. She planned to use them as cheap labour, and get an active mine running for cortosis. A valuable ore and useful in lot's of ways, not only could it defuse a lightsaber, it was also toxic. She had to first to construct slave housing on the planet, as she did want them to fear her, but not to live without hope, as that would make them hate, and why would she give them that strength. She had people on hand to help keep the slaves in line, and to make sure they worked. Though she was making sure the better they did, the more food and privileges they got. This was cheap and effective way to inventive them into working harder, it worked better than a whip.

She had others on hand to help, and it was going to be good day for them all.

Bad Luck Brian

You think You had a bad day?
Brian thought it would be a great idea to go to Apatros. That was the idea, but being badluck Brian he couldn't have a good day. Ever.

As the eternal optimist began to cross the street when he tripped over his laces. The blonde fell face first on the ground..... Right in the path of an oncoming speeder.

"oh ow!" He screamed.

Before the words left his mouth a meteor fell on his face. The young man waited as an ambulance arrived, carted him off and let the poor man into the EOR.

"Another six months of bed sores and hospital food," Brian said enthusiastically. "but a better day is coming tomorrow!"

The former assassin stood pacing along the living quarters of the command crew. The Shadow Sage hadn't lost any of her deadly air from teaching, though it had changed her in many other ways. Where once she had threatened to cut off a youngling's tongue for telling stories from his homeland she found she had grown far more patient over time, weather this was good or bad she had yet to decide.

The freighters were now starting to descend toward the planet, and the construction woud likely begin soon

She looked and saw some kid hit the ground, in path of speeder. Lucky he survived it, but then was smacked by a meteor. So she sent one her slavers to enslave him, well no point sending him to EOR. As anyone lucky enough to survive that, would be okay removing toxic ore from the ground. She then watched as the construction got on it's way, she turned and looked at echani. They where a warrior race, and she was also a member of the empire. She head over to the woman, as she got close studied her for a moment she was tall woman to say the least. She then said May I ask your name? She not met her before, but had feeling they would be seeing more of each other as the empire reformed.

A she spoke to the woman the geologist began searching where to start the mine, lucky that meteor had uncovered the perfect starting point for a mine head. That slave was going to be good luck for her, as the first batch of slaves were sent into begin digging. Cortosis ore was already being struck, this was uniquely lucky, most time they had to dig kilometer down first, before they found something.

"Bane, Safiriel" She said inclining her head into a small nod. She had seen the runover/meteror scene as well, and was quite perplexed about it. Had she seen right that a sloth was driving that speeder? She shook her head and smiled softly, turning back to the fellow imperial.

"I already know whom you are, its hard not to, after all" She said with a soft smile

The woman had advantage over her, he was already known to her. Though she did have interesting last name Bane, well this was home world of one Darth Bane. A she saw the first of ore being dug out, she asked the woman So may I ask what eshan is like, I never had the chance to visit. She was making small talk, as the first batch of ore was being put into sealed containers. They did this a the ore was highly toxic, and just breathing will kill you, and it was not nice death by all accounts. She saw the first housing go up, and wood being brought into support the mine shafts.

As that was happening more mining equipment was being brought it, as well as dust masks. To protect the slaves from the ore, after all dead slaves where a wasted assets, especially if it was stupid death.

"It is a nice world....Did you know Eshan, in the Echani Language, Means 'Guardian of the North-East' ? Its interesting, because it was at the North Eastern border of the Republic for the majority of time" She mused as she watched the slaves working. She felt no real pity for them. They had been weak, and the strong had decided to use them. It was simple really. Perhaps had they come to her seaking power, their fates might have been different

It was an interesting fact about what it meant, and she wished to visit it someday. After all they did make her favorite wine, and it would be nice to visit the vineyard some day. Though for now this dust bowl of a planet had to do. She saw the look in [member="Safiriel Bane"] face, as she looked over the slaves. She saw hem as weak, and she had the right to use them as she wiled. She was right to an extent, but she ad to know never give the weak strength. May I ask you question, you see them slaves weak as they are. She pointed to them, as they shifted the ore into the containers for them. They where going to be shipped off world to be processed, and then refined for them all. She then continued What could make them strong, and make them a threat to us? This was the teacher in her coming out, her first lesson she teaches anyone, the sith code is universal everyone follows it.

She considered the question, she saw any number of ways they could be a threat. "If someone gave them will and rallied them, the mining equipment could prove quite lethal if turned on us. What can break rock can easily crush bone" She murrmurred, looking over the busy little bees, to use a popular metaphor . "Alternatively, a knife is all thats needed, and a quiet thread. Theres all kinds of ways they could be a threat, it mostly just revolves around them summoning up the willpower to try it"

She smiled and said Correct, willpower would make them stronger. That is why you must always make sure they have hope of escaping alone, but never as group. If you deny them hope, they will no longer fear you but hate you. That hate will give them strength, and the rest will follow. So never push them that far, and keep them weak and docile at all times. This echani woman was intelligent, it was nice to know other sith can comprehended the sith code so well. She then saw a miner sneaking off on his own, she ignored it. As that would give hope to others, and as long as they had that hate would not ensue. Tough if they all tried she would have to something, as that would be to dangerous to ignore. In a day or so the mine would have made enough of shipment to begin moving it to next stage. She then watched the woman to see what her reaction would be to the man escaping.

"I'd have clipped his leg and pretended to hunt him down, then let him slip past on purpose. Give them the impression that even if they try, they won't get away completely scott free. Keep a choke hold on hope, not a loose leash" She murrmurred as she watched the lone figure slipping further and further into the distance

Yes that could work, but they do need to know it is not to easy. She then headed to office, as she would have to wait awhile before the first shipment was ready to leave. She then said to [member="Safiriel Bane"], Make the next one get caught, as we would not want to appear to weak would we. This was always a fine balancing act, to strong on them made them stronger to weak on them and it made you weaker. It was fine balancing act indeed, and one that had to measured on each action. Though in few days she would not be hear and some acolytes would be overseeing this little enterprise.

[member="Sabine Kurtass"]

"Of Course" She murrmurred softly. The days passed relatively quietly. Occasionally a slave tried to run, and would be rebuffed, while another would be let slip. Work was proceeding roughly on schedule, and the first bits of cortosis ore would be ready for refinement. She had plans for some of it

A week later, the mine shaft had been built directly where the meteor had fallen. It was a rich vine of ore, it was lucky the meteor hit where it did. Inside the mine, wooden beams kept the earth in place, and they where starting to be replaced with durasteel girders. They had slaves make landing pad for freighters, and store rooms to keep toxic dust away from people. Food was brought in, from off world so they need that life line.

She head out to see the first shipment being loaded onto the ship, and then asked the Echani woman Are you going out with the first shipment

[member="Sabine Kurtass"]

"I had figured I would. Most of my work here is done. Once it's processed i intend to take my share and return to Yavin to work with it. We've got a dozen crates ready to go , I believe two is a suitable share for me, Unless you object? If you wish to speak more, you may seak me out at the temple of Exar Kun"

"Oh boy, I get to play in the dirt!" Brian said cheerfully as he was handed a pick ax and eased off the gurney.

He hobbled with what little vitality was in his body towards the dig site. How could the lad keep moving despite having massive internal bleeding, getting hit by a speeder, and by a meteor? We have no idea. It was just his bad luck, the historians supposed. He raised the pick ax high above his head with a cheerful--albeit terribly sung song.

Unfortunately, in that moment his frail shoulders popped out of socket. Both. At the same time. The pickax lodged itself in Brian's spine. "OUCH!"

When the poor sweater-vest clad fella tried to remove it, he fell on his face--right on to a stone. "OUCH!"
